  • I recently talked to Tanner Anderson, Carl Skildum, & Matt Kirkwold who have come together to form a new project called Majesties centered around the golden era of 90s melodic death metal. We talked a lot about melodic death metal in general - both the good and the bad, there favorites of the genre, underrated melodic death albums, how this band got started, and a lot more.

This album absolutely destroys. I literally can't stop playing it.

Damn in my 40s and I have never lost that interest in discovering new bands. Its endless.
In Flames lost me with Soundtrack, two or three good songs but that's it. Its cool to see Halo Effect happening, but its not enough to rekindle my love for the genre. Definitely more into the BM influenced Melo Death.

Killer album! Captures the feel and atmosphere of early-mid 90's 'Gothenburg' DM perfectly! I grew up with Old In Flames, DT, Eucharist, ATG, Naglfar, Gates of Ishtar, Dissection, Miscreant, Armageddon and lots of other bands following in their tracks.. Majesties just sounds so oldschool and legit 'Swedish' to me, way more than the few originators that are still around.. I must have listened to the album close to ten times or so since i discovered it, a month or two ago now. For a relatively new band like yours that's pretty exceptional i must say, usually i go back to the old 90's stuff pretty fast but this one got me hooked pretty bad!😊🤘A personal fave of mine is the 'Mirrorworlds' album by Eucharist, such an underrated gem! Keep the flame burning, gents!🤘Enjoyed this chat a lot! You're my new favorite oldschool band!
Edit: Ah, Eucharist got mentioned right near the end! Classy!😊

Good stuff, Gates of Ishtar was a fucking great band. Also Antiverse-Under The Regolith is the fucking best shit.
