Really like your channel, I’ve been getting some inspiration lately. I’m a big guy 6’1- 320lbs. It’s always been hard to find cloths. I work in an office setting now, but the last 17 years or so I’ve been a Machinist so dressing nice wasn’t really necessary. I pull my pants up every time I stand, they don’t stay up with a belt maybe I need to give the suspenders a try. I’ve never found pants that fit perfect, maybe I should give a try to the tailored pants company.
I agree with everything but the square toe. I have a wide side to side frame and the ladies in my life think my wide square toe boots look better than a round toe. That’s all about body style. HOWEVER, don’t skimp on your footwear; what you said about a Goodyear welt and something that can be resoled is 100% true.
No, he was referring to those cheap square-toe dress shoes from DSW, Payless, Marshall's where the whole sole is glued to the leather instead of stitched. I agree that square-toe boots look better than round or pointed, especially when they have the ring harness.
I button all the buttons on my suit jacket whenever I'm wearing it while riding my motorcycle. I unbutton the bottom button as soon as I dismount. Riding in a suit is, I think, the only exception to the bottom button rule.
Excellent video as usual. The last segment on t-shirts, especially politics, was spot-on. American society has now made politics into some version of sports where it doesn't just have fans, it has FANatics. I meet people on my side who are despicable, and I meet people on the opposite side who are supposed to hate me who are actually wonderful.
That is how media wants it to be, that is how they get views and ratings. It is also how they get people to watch and follow them. Media outlets, at least the big ones, aren't there to inform you anymore they are there to conform you and keep you in line. Seriously, whatever my mom watched I just think, "I go outside everyday and never once do I see this happening."
Pssst. The word "fan" IS an abbreviation of the word "fanatic". And by the way...BOTH sides have despicable people. And I assure you it's not a simple political T-Shirt that makes them so.
Yeah, the last several years have really driven both the major US parties to the extreme. The whole thing should just be carted away to rot and be replaced with something less manipulable and with zero corporate money, as a start. I can't even talk partisan politics because neither party is any good. I'll talk individual issues if I do end up having to talk about it, and I am decently happy to disagree on some of them, too.
Square toed shoes and boots! Ugh! Silly trends that need to be put back in a box and shipped to the warehouse where the Ark of the Covent is being stored... As far as the trouser break, I still have my hemline cut with a 1 inch 'military slant'.

Oh my gosh this video gave me hope. 10 years ago i left my home country canada and i was abhorred by the sagging fashion. Im so happy that over the times it became banned. 6:31 Maybe it's because I'm using sensitive / no dyes / no perfumes detergent but I have horror stories I can tell you where I wash entire loads of clothes and they come out stinking because I used "what the bottle said." So now when I do full loads I use an entire cup of detergent (like the WHOLE cup, not the bars on the side).. Everything comes out clean.
Thank you for covering the pocket thing like I commented on on one of shorts. The the pocket thing in my opinion is Godie and men who wear them are in denial of aging. I have a few friends that still do it. Thanks again for what you do I have learned a lot. In marine language semper fi. I was Army Engineer so Essayons.
I remember someone who said that if no one wants to listen to you what makes you think they want to hear from your t-shirt? So true. It just looks ridiculous. Same goes with designer logos.
Semper Fi! Enjoy your videos! I remember the shirt stays and they work. I’m not big on suspenders though even if I’m an old Marine with a few extra pounds.
I wear suspenders regularly. I started about 5 years ago when being a gym rat I still couldn't get rid if my love handles. I theorized that my love handles built up where my belt was. Now after wearing suspenders my love handles have greatly reduced, and suspenders feel alot better on my waist
Suspenders are great and all, but I always feel like I'm a german boy from my old village... well from pre ww2... belts are a bit icky in the summer as leather often stains, so either getting a canvas belt and a khaki dress uniform and turn it into civvie clothes or such.
Really appreciate the philosophy you're emphasizing here and in an earlier video that on one hand you should take into account that others will judge you for what you wear, while on the other hand you should be careful with judging others for what they wear because that's a bad trait. Too many menswear channels/blogs are too judgmental.
Still have my shirt holders from military _ still have 1 pair of square toed shoes (yes they are comfortable) _ pants saggers (love how you presented your view). Great vid (all 12 mistakes).
Suspenders are great. Much more comfortable than a belt. Every time you get a suit, ask them to add suspender buttons. Get a few pairs of silk suspenders in nice patterns and muted colors. They make for a great accessory and a great look when you take your suit coat off. Women love to come up behind and snap the elastic band. Great opportunity for flirting, and you're already well-dressed to impress her!
Ha ha, I'm 16 and I'm always trying to get my younger brother (14) to take your advice and start paying attention to style because he suffers from a lot of these lol. P.S. I love that blue button down and Christian Craighead (SAS Hero) wore one just like it in an interview with Garand Thumb lately.
Get a copy of Dress for Success, John T. MOLLOY. He gives a lot of good advice on how to dress professionally, not necessarily stylishly or trendy, but professionally. Since I retired as a prosecutor, I live in sweats, shorts. Wife beaters (tank top, sleeveless t shirts with my tats hanging out.) But when I was working, or especially when I went to jury trial, I dressed like a poster boy for Brooks Brothers. Suspenders (called braces) with my power suit. Real dress braces with buttons and not snaps. Suspenders buttons sewn into my suit slacks. I would spend about $150 extra on every suit I bought just for alterations to ensure it looks like I was born in the suit. Shirt starched and pressed, tie steam pressed so i can make a perfect dimple. I want to look like Gordon Gecko in Wall Street. Cuz I was DA Man. The prosecutor. And I want to be taken seriously. I used a high end fountain pen cuz it makes a dramatic flare everytime I unscrewed the cap to write a note. But you'll see. Once you outgrow the "let it all hang out" years, you'll see how it fits.
A few points: Another reason to wear braces is if you have a v shape with little or no hips. Belts would just pull my trousers down. I recently bought a pair of western work boots with square toes. I wasn’t happy about it, but I needed something to wear while working outside. Square toes have become popular because certain rodeo performers have started wearing them in competition. Still look like hell, but the ones I bought are rugged enough to do hard work. I went to a funeral yesterday and was very frustrated at how many men had buttoned their bottom buttons. In one case it was the whole family. Finally, maybe it is time to do another video on laundry and fabric care.
The idea that looser fitting clothing is coming back in style is funny to me. I've started seeing Levis Silver Tab jeans in stores in recent years, and it takes me back to the '90s when basically every clothing item was fitted for someone with a build by Rob Liefeld (comic artist who drew wildly over-the-top body shapes). Some time back I found some clothes I had in high school, and they fit me horribly. Like with the pants, the waist was fine, but everything else was just far too roomy, all my pants had pleats to try and fit all that extra fabric in. Wonder if we'll see a return of JNCO.
I watch a lot of old 40s and 50 noir movies and every guy had their suit jacket buttoned even seated we need to go back to that style because classic is king
I'd love to see an example how just how important fit is. An awesome video idea is going out and buying a really really cheap suit (like sub 300, sub 200) and taking it to a really good tailor to get it properly fitted. Then you show what the total price was for the suit, which would be the suit itself and the tailoring cost
If you spend any time in the saddle, you should have a few pair of dungarees that are a couple inches past your regular inseam; the reason being that they'e going to ride up (pun intended) on your legs, and your boots could get damaged in the bush. Dungarees are cheaper to replace than boots.
Suspenders convert here. I had appendicitis surgery back in 2020 and tried suspenders/braces to avoid the pressure that a belt would cause to the operation site while I healed. Needless to say, I was hooked (or rather, buttoned, as I had several pairs of pants altered to have buttons - clip-on suspenders don't hold as well). Much more comfortable, you don't need to worry as much about your shirt coming untucked (plus it's easier to retuck too), and they even get compliments sometimes. Sure it takes a bit of confidence to pull off, but once you get more comfortable with wearing them, it gets much easier. More recently I started experimenting with casual waistcoats too - as much as I like sports coats, they're not practical most of the year here in Florida.
Love your videos and they've been enlightening in terms of fashion since that's something I was never really in to (still very much a novice currently). I did have one question though, how do you look good when carrying a CCW? One of the options that I saw presented by Massad Ayoob was a shoulder holster, but that requires that I never take off my jacket at all until I'm back home or in a private setting with friends who know I'm carrying and won't freak out. A lot of times people say to wear baggier shirts and pants (like one waist size bigger, for example) to help with "printing." While I want to look great, some of the places I go aren't the... best places in town and do honestly feel safer carrying something.
I don't think it's really possible. Classic style tends to be based on close fit, and trying to conceal a holster under your shirt just doesn't accommodate that. If you don't mind having it stored in a bag separate from your person, then something like a leather satchel would probably be the most fashion-friendly option. Of course, that opens you to the possibility of not being with your bag when you need it and not being able to open that bag quickly enough in the case of an emergency.
A suspender guy here. Now that I am pushing 70, I've decided to dress like an adult. Just last year I made a life-changing decision of wearing suspenders. No more belts. And a vest or waistcoat to cover everything. It helps when you're 5'5" and shrinking. BTW I think the king and keeping the bottom unbuttoned thing is a myth, It's simply for the ease of peeing.
Sagging is apparently because when you get arrested they take your belt off you so your jeans sag. Therefore it's to make you look "gangster" / stick it to the man etc. etc.
I remember when in the mid 2000s I was in my early 20s, sporting long hair and playing in a rock-band, I used to like those Affliction clothes. But they haven't really aged that well. Much better now sticking with the classics and being still able to use the nice suit I bought over a decade ago.
Suspenders are the best clothing item I've ever used. I'm heavier and wore belts since I was a kid. It was done without a thought. No pair of pants could possibly stay where it should stay. Nothing ever fit. Now, with suspenders, there is no issue at all. It isn't a thing to think about. My wife doesn't love them honestly so sometimes I just wear them under my shirt, all good. I'm on a weight loss mission and there will be a day where I don't need suspenders but I am positive they will be part of my fashion anyway. I'm kinda looking forward to getting some outlandish crazy suspenders when I'm out having fun.
You're either confident or you are not. If you are confident it doesn't matter what you wear. If you are not confident you need fashion to hide your lack of confidence.
Excellent video sir, as always! Love the humor and balance in your viewpoints, opinions, and suggestions! I see and hear the positives of shirt-stays, I'll be looking into them soon!
1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. That scripture is relevant and can’t be beaten!
Suspenders guy here. Suspenders are wonderful, especially for heavier guys, where the belt can bite in. Once you have stopped getting taller, don't get the cheap ones that are adjustable. Go old school-attached by buttons and one solid length of fabric - especially if you have a suit, everything is tailored. Just don't forget fit, or it will look stupid
As someone who has got duck feet I want to clarify that I never have and never will buy or wear square toe shoes. But deep inside I know that I would be more comfortable in them vs. the toothpicks that these types of shoes usually are :-) Unfortunately I have not yet come across a brand that makes business leather shoes with a wider profile AND good quality.
I read a story many years ago of how sagging started in prisons as a way of some prisoners signalling they were "available". If that story were to be told in high schools, I bet the sagging trend would die down quick!
Understand and agree in most points, but i just have to disagree about square toed shoes. To this day i just love that design. Its realy fits on leg, can be weared all day without any pain, and i somehow find it realy stylish.
The sagging jeans are a nod to prison style. The idea, among guys who see prison as aspirational, is to walk around with your pants falling off because when you're locked up the guards take away your belt. Somehow this turned into a sartorial style, signaling that the wearer is too dangerous to mess with.
What is near-criminal are menswear shops who let customers walk out of the store with pant hems or jacket sleeves that haven't been properly measured or adjusted (i.e. straight off the rack).
It's becoming more difficult today, as many retailers didn't bring back their tailors after the Covid layoffs. One result was that a lot of places stopped carrying suits in their retail stores and switched to suit separates, which means pre-hemmed trousers that may not be an exact match for the jacket. The closest thing to an advantage is that not everyone is a standard six-inch drop, so the trousers in separates should be available with a properly sized waist without tailoring. Useful if you happen to wear a 44L jacket, but also have a 36" or even a 42" waist. The thing that annoys me the most about separates, though, is that all parts of a suit will come from the same piece of cloth, while with separates it's likely the jacket and trousers will come from the same mill run, but not the same bolt, so there can be minor variances between them.
@@TheJTMcDaniel Granted, yes. Certain stores like Banana Republic (in Canada) sell suit separates and sure as hell do not have a tailor in-house. My beef is more so with bona fide menswear shops that DO have at least one tailor on staff, and still let some customers walk out of the store without even offering to have the jacket sleeves shortened or the the jacket nipped at the waist - as almost every off-the-rack suit will require.

Suspender’s ❤ and helps also to carry on belt protective device.. with suplement feed for it. otf knive rides easy in jacket seam too
Great information Antonio classy
I agree with everything but the square toe. I have a wide side to side frame and the ladies in my life think my wide square toe boots look better than a round toe. That’s all about body style.
HOWEVER, don’t skimp on your footwear; what you said about a Goodyear welt and something that can be resoled is 100% true.
I think (hope) he was referring to square toe dress shoes, not boots. If he meant to include boots (cowboy boots) then he is 100% wrong.
Beautiful. I wish everyone could be this insightful.
Square toe cowboy boots are very popular right now. Some western stores don't carry round toe boots at all.
That's because you're probably going to the big box stores, check out the smaller ones like Tacovas, Chisos, and Alvies to name a few.
@@z3r3pmoto This comment proves you’ve never been in a Tecovas store, have no idea that Chisos is limited on their product offering, or that Alvie’s caters to a specific market.
Not mocking any of those brands or others similar, I’m just mocking your obvious cognitive dissonance
It’s best to have buttons installed in your trousers for the suspenders
Very on point !!! Really like this take …
I wear suspenders everyday with the Batchelor buttons, love them more than any belt I've ever had
Very well said on the last point
Oh my gosh this video gave me hope.
10 years ago i left my home country canada and i was abhorred by the sagging fashion.
Im so happy that over the times it became banned. Canada gets minus 20 degrees celsius in the winter, and those kids walk around in their underwear - it was a disaster.
Thank heaven it changed
I have not thought about shirt stays since I was in the navy as well! Yes you look real sharp all day
6:31 Maybe it's because I'm using sensitive / no dyes / no perfumes detergent but I have horror stories I can tell you where I wash entire loads of clothes and they come out stinking because I used "what the bottle said." So now when I do full loads I use an entire cup of detergent (like the WHOLE cup, not the bars on the side).. Everything comes out clean.
First time seeing this channel. I like this guy, very informative!
Very well said!
Dang he got right into it and didn’t waste time. I like that!! That’s why I subbed!!
Your videos have come a long way. Very cool!
You make great content my man! I always enjoy your videos.
Still have my shirt holders from military _ still have 1 pair of square toed shoes (yes they are comfortable) _ pants saggers (love how you presented your view). Great vid (all 12 mistakes).
On, man! I remember the shirt stays very well from the Marine Corps!! Salute, Marine!! Ooorah!! Semper Fi!!
Hell ya dude, I watched that same interview. You have yourself a fantastic day sir!
@@Langelmaki You too mate 👍
You sound like a caring brother. Keep setting a good example. Most of us did some absurd things when we were in our teens 😅
I like the shirt stays idea. Been thinking about them for a while now, but haven’t followed up on it.
A few points:
Another reason to wear braces is if you have a v shape with little or no hips.
JNCO has actually come back to some extent, not like we had in the 90s but they have been brought back, jeans run $240+
I watch a lot of old 40s and 50 noir movies and every guy had their suit jacket buttoned even seated we need to go back to that style because classic is king
I absolutely love wearing suspenders. Haven't worn a belt in about 3 years
I'd love to see an example how just how important fit is. An awesome video idea is going out and buying a really really cheap suit (like sub 300, sub 200) and taking it to a really good tailor to get it properly fitted. Then you show what the total price was for the suit, which would be the suit itself and the tailoring cost
Great idea!
If you spend any time in the saddle, you should have a few pair of dungarees that are a couple inches past your regular inseam; the reason being that they'e going to ride up (pun intended) on your legs, and your boots could get damaged in the bush. Dungarees are cheaper to replace than boots.
Great tips Antonio! Loved the part about Affliction, almost fell into that trap myself at one point 😅
I remember being in London in early 1997, most stores (even the better ones) had nothing but square toed shoes.
I could not agree more!
Thank you
One of my favorite videos so far. I have a couple goals now. 1. Replace my square tips and 2. Hem those pants :)
Bro just keep wearing whatever you prefer, there is no "dressing like an adult".
I made the same decision to wear
Suspenders at 28 .
Reason For Bagging/Sagging
When Is Was Younger I Was Doing This, Now Why?
Because We Were Carrying Guns And They Would Sag Down Your Pants.
Affliction jeans? Never heard or seen in the UK, but it looks like Thomas Sabo jewellery in clothing form.
They want to look like inmates who’ve had their belt taken away because they’re afraid they’re going to commit suicide.
Yeah man they got that salad tossed!!!!
Sagging is apparently because when you get arrested they take your belt off you so your jeans sag. Therefore it's to make you look "gangster" / stick it to the man etc. etc.
Thanks for another great video.
Excellent as always!
Thank you! Cheers!
Agreed! There should also be laws against a suit with sneakers and a hoodie under a suit jacket. Ridiculous!
Suspenders are the best thing in the world in all honesty and it makes you look 10x better if you have muscle on your frame
You're either confident or you are not. If you are confident it doesn't matter what you wear. If you are not confident you need fashion to hide your lack of confidence.
😂LOVE this sensible comment
Excellent video sir, as always! Love the humor and balance in your viewpoints, opinions, and suggestions! I see and hear the positives of shirt-stays, I'll be looking into them soon!
Great content 👍
Hi, one new trend I don't get is tucking your laces into your snickers. What is the deal? Can anyone explain it to me?
I gave up on “white” socks a few years ago, lol! Have crocs ever been addressed on this channel? I bet his take on them would be hilarious!
Black workout socks are practical, but they make the tips of my main toenails colored black, most likely from descending during hiking.
Agree on the square toe shoe look, except for my Lucchese 7, Q toe western exotic boots
He's referring to dress shoes with wide square toes. How did boots enter the conversation?
@@riproar11 I know what he is referring too. A boot is usually categorized as a form of a dress shoe. Just stating my opinion.
1 Corinthians 13:11
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
That scripture is relevant and can’t be beaten!
True dat! 👊
Bingo. Notice he didn't say he naturally grew out of childish things...he made the volitional choice to put them away.
Leviticus 19:27
"Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard."
Quoting the Bible is stupid.
@@correx96 No, quoting Leviticus is stupid.
@@bobzenx7225 Why would quoting Leviticus be stupid but Corinthians is not? They're from the same "holy" book lmao
I like the Affliction clothing!!!
I’m not particular fond of square toed shoes but I’d hardly call anyone a loser for wearing them. The rest? Spot on.
question: witch button do I button in a waste coat??? It has 5 buttons
I would say for point 11, just most graphic tees in general.
With modern dyes, there is no need to separate loads by color. Yes, if you want to bleach whites, you do only whites.
We dress for function, work and attracting others.
Timing is everything.
I read a story many years ago of how sagging started in prisons as a way of some prisoners signalling they were "available". If that story were to be told in high schools, I bet the sagging trend would die down quick!
I don't think prisoners have belts.
great video and very inspiring...
Antonio, why do clothes have buttons we're not supposed to use?
Understand and agree in most points, but i just have to disagree about square toed shoes. To this day i just love that design. Its realy fits on leg, can be weared all day without any pain, and i somehow find it realy stylish.
The sagging jeans are a nod to prison style. The idea, among guys who see prison as aspirational, is to walk around with your pants falling off because when you're locked up the guards take away your belt. Somehow this turned into a sartorial style, signaling that the wearer is too dangerous to mess with.
Hey man awesome video!
Could I ask what that brand of coat is at 10:08 I really like it!
Excellent video. Yes, saggy jeans were cool when I was 12, but anyone caught doing that when they're older is like committing a crime!
No, no, it was never cool and isn't now. It just looks sssssoooo dumb. Laughably dumb.
