Well done, Antonio. As soon as I saw the thumbnail image for the video, I instantly came to the comments section to tell others not to embarrass someone about the cuff tag. In college, a girl I knew invited me to her formal sorority dinner. I was clueless about many things guys my age had already learned from their fathers. I go out and spend $400 I didn't have on a suit and had no idea these tags were supposed to be cut off. One of other guys at the event blasted me about it in front of at least 10-12 people. As a mildly inebriated 20yr old guy at a sorority party, my instant reaction was to haul off on this clown, but something made me hold back. Looking back at it now, I consider it a character-building moment, but the experience was BRUTAL. Don't be that guy. Not only is a douche move, but you pass up the real power move of discreetly helping out the "competition". Side note, I ended up marrying my date from that night while the fashion expert is working towards his 3rd divorce lol

Agreed. I’ve seen closeup wedding photos of a sleeve with the tag, but that is no reason to ridicule someone who is trying their best with the knowledge they have.
I only discovered all this style info at the age of 38. I’m somewhat grumpy that people around me (parents, friends) haven’t pointed me in this direction.
But now that style is on my radar, it’s gonna change my life!!
      Thanks Antonio!

I would add belts with suspends. I would also add if you wearing a suite use suspenders or side adjusters. Do not wear a belt with a suit. That is especially true if you are wearing a three piece suite.

I put clip suspenders along side clip ties. Get real ones & have a tailor put on the required 6 buttons. I keep the belt loops on just in case I want to forgo the jacket. My father always had the beltloops removed when he had the cuffs hemed.

My work outfit today was a white shirt with blue spots, a khaki vest, royal blue tie, blue jeans, navy socks with yellow stripes, and tan loafers to match the vest. Got endless compliments. Personal theory, it isn't so much about "too much color", but more what colors go together and how you arrange them. Blue and khaki/tan go well together, white goes well with both khaki and blue. As long as they all play well together, and nothing is too much of a clash, you can be very colorful, and still seem natural.

The tie one for sure, its always better to go long as the too short tie is the same effect as a too short jacket/bad button placement or a too short vest. It breaks the line of the legs and torso and draws the eye to the waist which is rarely a good thing

When socks were hand made and costly, men whose wealth wasn’t what it had been would wear socks that had holes because “holes could just have happened, but darns (hole repaired with a darning egg and thread) never” - to avoid demonstrating that they couldn’t afford new socks or could only afford a repair. Well-presented series of tips! Thank you!

I bought my first and, until recently, only sport jacket over 17 years ago to wear at my 20th high school reunion. It is made by Mark Ecko, cost about $40, and still needs to be trailered. That said, it has gotten me many compliments. The last was just a few weeks ago, when I was purchasing a few sport coats at a men's store as I attempt to level up my style game as I approach 55. The woman helping me gave me a compliment. I responded that I loved the jacket as well, but that the front pockets were just for show and not functional. She explained it was just the tack stitching. A younger me might have been embarrassed by that. Seventeen years I've been wearing the coat wrong.

Spot on about your assessment regarding fashion versus style.
As for tank tops, you better have the physique to go with it.
Look at what you perceive as weaknesses in yourself and truly assess if they can be used as assets (sometimes they can) and roll with them.
It's all like poker and the song where you got to know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em.

But in the Branch where I Work all my Employees must wear the Clip Ties for safety reasons. (To avoid, that they get strangled with their own tie.)

I like your end comment about trying to protect one from judgment.
There's dangerous people in the media right now that folks are defending because they initially set off red flags and made others uncomfortable enough to shun them. I'm a person who is small, a minority, was poor and otherwise would have been bullied and considered "weird" unless I leveraged other skills to fit in, and I still do that to this day. And sure it sucks that we have to refine ourselves to that extent, but I see it as the cost of living in a presumed civilized society and wanting to enjoy the fruits of that life vs cry about it or harm others.

Interesting, i live in Poland and i have never seen this type of tags in any elegant store (i've visited about 100). I also was in about 30-40 suit shops in: czech republic, slovakia, slovenia, austria, hungary, albania, montenegro, serbia, croatia, bosnia. Also no recall of those.

We had a young lady (mid 20s, otherwise smartly dressed) with the tag still on the sleeve of her brand new 1000$ winter coat.
As she was alone, shopping for her fiance for Xmas, I asked if she wanted me to remove the tag from the coat (as she had likely ordered it online and never thought to cut the tag off).
I have been so thoroughly rebuked at my work!
We sell moderately priced suits (in that 300$ - 900$ range) and some decent winter wear.
And yet, she believed that people wouldn't know it was a nice coat if she took the tag off.
I'll be blunt with anyone using this logic: a) it looks like you either stole it or are overestimating it's worth, b) the decision (if that's what it is) make the coat look cheaper and possibly counterfeit, and c) it's something that routinely gets hooked on something if not removed, which can then cause damage, and usually enough where it's not even worth it.
Our tailor / seamstress had to try to fix such damage and it took her 3 hours of pulling the sleeve apart, doing an internal fix, putting it back together (twice, because the jacket was cashmere) and ended up costing him double her time.
    Which is not cheap.
So I recommend thinking about that possibility.
Those tags are, for the most part, like the tag hung on a t-shirt. It's to let you know who made it, so as to differentiate during the buying process. Period.

I agree! My GF bought me a super, dark green woollen 3 piece for Christmas. It looks great with a very light pink shirt, burgundy trousers and tie, or simply the jacket over a dark mustard wool jumper. I must admit, I'm almost totally the opposite to Antonio's chart, except white, of course, and love earthy/natural colours. The only black things I have are underwear, T-shirts and a rollneck. I stuck my neck out and bought a blue/grey gingham tweed jacket this weekend. I'm freaking out about wearing it for the first time, even though I know it's gorgeous! I am English though, so our classic styles are a little more that way: Pulling off a Gamekeeper/Eccentric Aristocrat style is relatively normal!

Well I had to laugh but yes Antonio you are right.
The suit tags and tack stitching are the signs of a rookie!
The Army taught me to teach others to look presentable in uniform so inwardly I laugh but outwardly I guide and educate.
Once had a new guy try to put a complicated highland dress uniform together.
It was totally wrong and others started yelling at him.
I grabbed him, took him into the can and got him dressed properly.
Then I tore a strip off the others by yelling “The kid cannot learn if the leadership fails to teach him! That failure is on all of you!”
I have learned well that always being presentable is important, even to my wife at home.
Colours depends on you and your physical colouring.
I have blue eyes and brownish hair. So I stick with a lot of blues , browns and shades thereof.
But I can pull off greys, blacks, greens and reds fairly well.
    Definitely use the colour wheel.
    Agreed jewelry must be restrained.
And socks worn out or with open toed footwear?
Antonio, let’s not even give it a mention.
Any man worth his salt knows this is just terrible.
Hell, I wouldn’t even wear that in the garden or mymown pool.
Great vid as always. Keep ‘em coming!

The tags on sleeves are for the sales ppl (or you) can tell the brand without pulling it from the rack. Sometimes there is a 2nd tag that has the style or model number.
Tack stitching was tricky for me. Jacket cuffs, remove. Rear vents, remove. Pockets, remove if they show. If hidden, I keep the right breast stitched, as well as the left "hip" exterior; it keeps the fit flat. I am right handed, so I use the others (just not stuffed). I might start opening right side inside pockets for my phone.

The t-shirt neck is probably the most important mistake. As you stated, a deep v-neck is excellent to wear under a shirt. However, a crew neck will always be a classic style to match with a fresh pair of jeans. A perfectly fitted t-shirt can make anyone look good, even someone who is skinny or doesn't go to the gym can look amazing in a crew neck t-shirt

    • @Pittibarlin
      @Pittibarlin 2 года назад

I find on skinny people a v-neck wears better, it places less emphasis on their pencil neck and don't wear loose fit sleeves, get ones with a cuff.
Same with polo's, if you're thin then don't button them all the way up. Just makes skinny men look like coathangers with a head, not a good look.

When it comes to wearing multiple accessories like rings, I think the most important thing is that it should fit your vibe. If it doesn't fit your vibe, you'll never pull it off. Johnny Depp can pull off the look, not because he was in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, but because it fits his non conformist vibe. People like Antonio from RMRS or Aaron from Alpha M can't pull off the look because to me, they give off that good guy, follow the rules vibe.

Hello from Michigan! I'm always here to learn something new, but I still have yet to understand what's the judgement against socks and sandals. I'm wearing a very comfortable pair of Columbia PFG "slide" style sandals with socks, and wouldn't have it any other way for being comfortable at home. I think for me personally, they're easier to wear than any other shoes I own, which is close to 20 pairs.
    Somebody let me know!

    • @karlr750
      @karlr750 2 года назад

If you're *only* wearing them at home, then it doesn't matter what you're wearing. Nobody will see you. Wear fuzzy bunny slippers if you prefer, because style doesn't really matter when you're alone.
Regarding sandals + socks, I'll compare them to tags and tack stitching on a suit. If I left those on my suit, I'd give the impression that I'm clueless about how a suit should be worn. Similarly, sandals are designed to look good *without* socks. Wearing them with socks would give the impression that I'm clueless about how they should be worn. My clothes create an impression, and I never want that impression to be "I'm clueless," or "I'm ignorant."
An easy way to look more stylish is to dress nicer than those around you. Sandals (even when worn *without* socks) are an ultra-casual look, so they're not necessarily a good choice for looking stylish.
Slides are "very comfortable" and "easier to wear than any other shoes" (your words). I prefer to wear minimal sneakers. They're more comfortable, reasonably stylish (for casual wear), and I don't find it terribly difficult to tie my shoes. (If I had a physical limitation that prevented me from tying my shoes, I would strongly consider wearing slides.)

There are hardcore serious hiking candles that pretty much require good socks when walking 50-100 (more) miles on rugged terrain
. Then it was copied by the clueless.
As for sliders, they are supposed to be locker room/shower footwear. School athletes often were in a hurry after practice & just jumped into these "shoes" for speed, without changing. Then it became purposeful; then a (hopefully) lazy trend.

One thing I think you should cover is the unconscious bias that exists in all of us. Based on age, colors, accessories and overall fit you can create subconscious biases that impress people.

My only complaint is shirts with big logos. I think it's ok with certain sports brands. In the past few months I increased my wardrobe big time and have 4 more colors to buy.
There are people that only select sports brands. Sport brands have done it right with making Logo shirts and they also make smaller logo shirts that don't stand out as much.
There is one great brand that still incorporates their old logo along with the updated logo. I'm in my mid 50's and still wear T-Shirts but the only printed shirts I wear now is from one Sports brand. But they do it right with colored shirts by printing a white logo which is fantastic, I can match an entire outfit just with the logo and not the shirt color. The color combinations that that are used don't look stupid. I don't have shorts or hats yet but the shirt collection is growing.
This channel is about casual dress up than wearing casual sports wear. Your always going to have people fashion themselves over a brand and I think that T-Shirts that have a sports brand logo should be embarrassed rather than lumping every other big logo t-shirt that isn't brand related. There is a classic look with some of them.

Shoes, in my opinion, are a big deal that you never touched. Maybe you did in other videos, I'm not sure. I've noticed that a large number of men don't polish their shoes. Most men, being right handed, don't know how to tie their shoes. I've seen people wearing Oxford style shoes and cross lacing them. There are videos that talk about the difference of Oxford, Derby and Blucher as well as video how to tie so the bow goes across vs going up & down the tongue.

It's a bit weird what you said about logic and judging people based on appearances. As a practical matter, as a matter of survival, we *all* need to make quick judgements with incomplete information every moment of the day. That's not illogical. What is illogical would be having 100% confidence in a quick judgement and not keeping an open mind.

I'm not sure you listened to what he was saying.
It wasn't passing judgment on something with context, it was reminding viewers that those sorts of judgments do happen and that guys should be prepared to make thoughtful, considerate choices if they want to make a positive impact.
Mindfulness is something that everyone should consider, which is basically what he was saying.
I work on men's wear. I wouldn't wear a polo and shorts if I'm selling wool suits and 200$+ dress shirts to lawyers, accountants, and financial advisors or managers and executives.
It's not just mindfulness, it's portraying another option for someone in your professional circle, a sort of wordless mentorship, the influence a person can have on others perception and valuation.
Or maybe you're blue collar and just on this video to make near meaningless arguments about psychology.
After that (brief) opening, the next 11 minutes are entirely about fashion and tips to dress better.

@@nolankuffner3573 I agree with that. The specific part of the video that I was responding to was _"as logical as you and me may actually be, the world is full of people that make quick judgements based on limited information"_ . I was just making the distinction clear that of course we *all* make snap judgements, there's never unlimited time and rarely complete information. The important thing is to not have certainty in a first guess and to keep an open mind.
