- The Crochet Textured Life Blanket is an easy level blanket that is really fast to crochet. For new crocheters, this could be one of those blankets that are the very first blanket they ever crochet.
There is a repeat of 4 rows that make this blanket. 2 of them are just straight across with single crochets. The front post trebles that jump down are strategically aligned to give the look. The tutorial will take you through that.

I love your method of teaching. I can clearly see which chain you're going in to and you explain everything so well. Thank you!
My favorite color, purple. I will be making this beautiful blanket. Thank you for sharing, Mikey.
I've put this on my list for "to do" blanket, I'm always looking for quick blanket projects and this one I can not wait to try. Thanks!
Thank you Mickey. I love this blanket. Pretty color too.
I’ve made 4 of these blankets for my family and love the pattern and yarn. So easy too 👏🌈💗🌈👍
Beautiful blanket and I love the ripple stitch!! Great video also 😊
Hi Crystal!!!!! I see you!!!! Lol. Love your channel ❤️♥️♥️♥️.
Beautiful and quick! Just my kind of project. Thanks for posting Mikey!!
Thanks for posting Mikey! ♥
Love the stitch, love the yarn. I did this blanket with half double crochets, the blanket has beautiful texture and with the Bernat twist yarn almost like a weighted blanket, but crocheted. Looks wonderful. Great job Mike,
It’s beautiful I only wish you would’ve used a less confusing yarn as the sample. Very hard to see.
True. I can't fully appreciate it.
Free pattern can be found at thecrochetcrowd.com/crochet-textured-life-blanket-tutorial/
For clarity, every other row is single crochet. I accidentally said double crochet at one point in the tutorial. You can see I am doing a single crochet.
The Crochet Crowd is it ok to use a bulky 5 yarn instead of a super bulky 6? What crochet hook size should I use if I use a bulky 5 yarn. Thank you.
@@arlynastom2420 you can do this with any yarn. If it were me and I was using a bulky 5 I would use whatever hook size is given on the ball band which is probably a 6.5 mm depending on the brand of yarn. Good luck!!
@@babygrandma8654 thank you😊😊
Thanks for this tutorial. I’ve been looking for a pattern to make a blanket. I think o found it!!!! 😀
Love this blanket and have to give it a go
Lovely tutorial but absolutely the worst type of yarn to clearly see the texture of the finished swatch 😢
Thanks Mikey. This a beautiful
I made this! Thank you so much. It turned out great.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I check out your vids if I ever want to learn something.
I'm thinking about making this in Caron Big Cakes nightberry and I can't wait! Thank you Mikey for always making easy to follow tutorials! You're my favorite person to learn from!
Sounds like a challenge! Go for it! :D
Luv2stitch thank you for sharing
Just beautiful
Beautiful 🌺🌿
Beautiful
Hi Mikey love watching your videos and tutorials .Try to do this blanket. Why are called Afghan? Here in Malta we say blanket. Thanks you are a good teacher ⚘⚘⚘
Love it! Wonder how it would turn out with thicker yarn. ?
I agree with others, use a different yarn please! That being said I love this stitch! Going to start using for the bathmats I make. Thanks
Thank you for the thorough explanation. However, the yarn you used at the beginning was difficult to see.
Solid color of yarn would be easier to see.
I love this, but could you do a tutorial with a solid yarn? This was hard to follow.
Thanks so much for sharing Mikey :) I made one afghan (american flag) in blanket yarn. I didn't like it at all even though it does have its advantages. However I love this pattern and thinking about making it in wt 4 yarn :)
The blanket yarn is gorgeous and so soft, but it's not a yarn for beginners IMHO. It's a little difficult to work with.
You are the BEST!!! Isn't it the ALPINE stich?
Beautiful! Thank you...🤗🥰
Looks easy. The yarn may not be what most would use for this pattern. I would at least try it. :0)
I love the textured look but the colors will probably be hard on my eyes. I love the yarn though.
Lindo! Traduz pra português por favor obrigada!Adoro seus trabalhos!
Agora existe uma tradução em português.
I love the bernet blanket twist I wish they had more colors my favorite was the red, white, gray and I can't find it anywhere any more I think the discontinued it 😭
Hobby lobby had something similar!
Awesome 👏🏾
Please do this in a solid color please
Looking for clarification here. As you work you state that "...every other row is just double crochet across..." However watching you work it appears you are doing single crochet. Am I just looking at it wrong??? Thanks for all you and the team do for us. Sandy Duda Left is Right Crochet
John. In looks that way to me also. I wonder if it's in UK terms?
Yes, he does mention in the description that it is single crochet! I was thinking the same thing! You are so right! ☺
I'm watching the tutorial and Mikey does say double crochet at the start of the row, but he changes it to single crochet by the end of the row. I think its just an error. Oops. X
@@mariannejoynes6516 I'm sorry. I should have stated single crochet.
Please do this in a plain color so we can see better! Very confusing yarn! :-( Thank you!
very busy yarn and hard to see
How is this different from the Lush Life afghan I made 2 years ago?
Yarn choice is updated. There's no difference as far as I know.
This is the alpine stitch
If my blanket is curling, is it because i'm stitching too tight?
Can't find the pattern to download and web sight is not giving me the pattern
What is the name of this stitch?Would you do this with a plain yarn? I really like it but to do it I need to be able to see it better. Thank you.
This is the Alpine stitch
Isn't this the Alpine Stitch?
Richelle Echevarria I know this as the ripple stitch according to book I bought when I was 14 in 1988.
Can I use the cover story yarn brand for this blanket? Size(6)
I'm just have some trouble trying to go into the back loop of the foundation chain can I just do it regularly? Need help please.
You can use any yarn for this pattern--you would just need more if it's a lighter weight. Another 6 weight yarn should work up similarly. You can also crochet your foundation chain however you want; the back loop just makes it look a little cleaner, but with thicker yarn you can't really tell the difference.
Can you use this pattern with other yarn?
The Demo doesn't look like picture. Where is the diamond pattern ?????
This isn't even a diamond pattern. It's called the Alpine stitch to replicate the Alpine trees in mountainous regions. They're just giving it a different name.
@@richrosegold610 I don't think I gave the stitch combo a name.
I agree, I cannot figure out how the diamond type shapes form. Does this "automatically happen", as in the picture? I don't understand *HOW that be just by continuing the swatch example he was making?*
The Crochet Crowd I’m quite new to crochet so I was just surfing through looking for an interesting blanket. Stopped looking when I got to this video, I haven’t come across the stitch before and my yarn isn’t the same but I’m going to give it a go. I have to admit the yarn used in the demonstration doesn’t display the finished pattern, at least not on camera, but the blanket in the photo that attracted me to watch the video looks lovely. Have a lovely day all I’m off to my crochet corner for the rest of today 👋
Hi can you ple help me, I want to know how many grams of wool yarn is needed to crochet this size blanket . Thank you so much
If you go to the video description. The free pattern is linked there and the metres and weight is there.
Where is the written pattern please.
I am making an Afghan using this pattern and the whole thing is curling/ Rolling really bad. Any tips to get it to lay flat?
At the end, just dampen the afghan and lay it flat.
This is such a beautiful blanket and super easy to do I just wish you would’ve used a solid color instead of veragated kind of hard to see
Yes, it's a common complaint. I get complaints either way. When I don't use what is recommended or when I go off script. It's a losing battle which ever decision I do.
A burning question: What is the difference between the textured life blanket and the lush life blanket?
Very hard to c!
This is impossible to see with that yarn, unfortunately. It’s a shame we couldn’t have had the tutorial in a solid color. I can’t see any stitches in the tutorial, and I can’t see the pattern of the blanket in the swatch at all.
Great video, but you speak very fast. It doesnt sound like you take a breath between sentences at times and are trying to rush through the tutorial.
I was expecting for a new pattern but no, it's just the alpine stitch! And worse: the yarn used is absoluletly inappropriate for the purpose of teaching. I suggest you, for the next projects to use a diferente kind of yarn .
Izaura Kakuno noted. I used what I had in stock. I’m sorry for my video.
The Crochet Crowd - the video is awesome! Thank you for all you do!!
Never use multi coloured yarn for a tutorial....to hard to see the pattern...
Slow down
Can I ask why you say you have the free pattern available at your blog, and then the blog post is nothing but the RUclips video? It's kind of misleading :/ I like to watch the video through to get the idea and then refer to the pattern so I don't have to constantly load up a video
Let me check the article. There is usually a BLUE BUTTON that says Pattern and the words of the pattern are usually linked as well to the pattern. I'll check the article now to ensure the blue button and word link is still active.
I just checked the article. The blue button is there, it works and I double checked the word link in the first line of the paragraph and that works too. So I am unsure what you mean by misleading. The content is there.
Hard to follow..confusing.
Sorry, wrong yarn 🤨🤨
That yarn is horrible
This is the second tutorial I've seen using this yarn and I wasn't going to complain until you literally admitted you foresaw people having trouble following along because of it. If don't know why you've chosen this yarn, if it's yarn you particularly like or you just have a partial ball lying around, whatever the case may be; you know a yarn is going to be hard for people to see, don't use it. Or go ahead and make an extra swatch with it to use it up, but don't intentionally film with yarn you know is hard to see.
I'm so confused; I've seen you do so many things to avoid frustrating your viewers - including switching to Red Heart Super Saver and filming a whole tutorial twice - once in a plush velvet, and again in a regular 4 worsted so people could see, that it's hard for me to accept when you intentionally use sub-optimal yarn and say "just do your best!"
I wish you would make a list of best practices in your video and stick with them consistently. I've seen so many years worth of your content and it's such a mixed bag when it comes to ease of viewing. I know you're capable of filming an easy to follow tutorial using the best materials for accessibility and education, so when I hold you to a higher standard it's because I know you're capable of committing to consistently doing better.
You are not wrong. Sometimes though, I am forced to use the same yarn even if I don't want to. Stitch Alongs, for example, I am not allowed to substitute the colours or brand, even if its against my better judgement. We receive sponsorship and while I have flexibility, there are some hard lines in the sand that I cannot cross because I have bills to pay and a team to pay for.
I am probably not the right host for you to follow to be frank. I do make mistakes. It is really interesting, at least to me. I can see clearly the stitches and the project on the table but the 300 Watts of light blast at the project over the camera's view and it can make it much harder and during the editing, it's damn because the angle of the camera is 6" over my eye view so the angle is slightly different.
I am not filming things intentionally these days, even if coming at significant requests for things you mentioned above. It's better not to provide the resource when I cannot substitute then to do it and face off with a mistake in filming like you are eluding to.
I'm sorry. Truly.
Is this channel going downhill? Unfortunately I don't find easy or interesting tutorials like there used to be here. Even when there is something interesting it seems so rushed...
Terrible choice of yarn to show this stitch
yeah that's a fair complaint. I have to learn not to film with Bernat Blanket as the camera is hard to pick up on it.
Horrible yarn. If you make a mistake do not even try to undo.
That comment surprises me. I’m sorry you don’t like it.
