Hey you mentioned these drones aren't good for scenery, but I'm curious why that's the case? It would seem with the 4k and 120fps modes you should be able to get excellent scenery shots. Is the image quality lacking? What are better drones for scenery?
If you like majestic videos of scenery, you’ll often have to fly higher and faster to show the grandeur of the location. In this regard, Promax and Pro are small 2S powered with 2 inch props and they can fly up to 120m above ground level. They won’t be able to fly far or high enough to capture the scale of a place. That’s why I suggested that a larger drone like the mavic 3 pro would be better for that purpose. Hoverair can do environmental portrait type shots though (shots of you and your family in scenery).

Hi Mic, Nice overview without having the drones on hand to test. I have a couple questions being new to drones: 1) how was the video quality indoor? Did you test out in lowlight conditions? 2) how does the cameraman features of the X1 Pro and PM compare to the active track of DJI mini drones such as the mini 4 pro?
@@nomad0714 hi Nomad. 1. For indoor video quality, look at the scenes where I was in that gallery. But please note that room was reasonably well lit. You can also check out the other RUclipsrs who tested the pro and promax indoors because their location was more representative of typical indoor lighting. I wasn’t able to test low light conditions. They said the two drones perform better in low light both for tracking and image quality but I haven’t tried it and haven’t seen any samples. But I do notice that for the Pro samples, the mountain bike through the forest seemed to have lower image quality compared to the open road sample. 2. The tracking of the Hoverair is very different. DJI drones were designed to track from higher altitudes like 20 ft or so and at longer distances. The Hoverair on the other hand tracks you at distances and altitudes similar to a cameraman. Even my skydio 2 cannot do those shots (even though it has more advanced sensors). To get a better idea of what Hoverair is for, I recommend checking out my review of last year’s X1 here (keep in mind that DJI and Skydio cannot follow a subject the way the X1 did): ruclips.net/video/S5mWwjEBNAc/видео.html
@@nomad0714 also I don’t know what you plan to do with the drone but traditional drones usually take a while to start because they have to find enough gps satellites. The hover doesn’t use gps so it is ready to shoot much faster.
@@360vroomers, Hi Mic, I will use mostly for family and friends as I’m using filming my family and always the cameraman. Otherwise for work, I see interior and exterior low ground shots and videos of me and/or my team during talks and walking around the scenes. As you said well, low ground cameraman. I sold my old Mavic 2 Pro and replaced jt wjth the Air 2S so for high shots and videos, I can use this. Just missing a mini drone and this seems to fill that void. Appreciate the help and info Mic!
Since the DJI Neo is now released with more capabilities but priced almost half of its direct competition, the Hover X1, I would have liked to have seen the next generation Hover at a cheaper price point. Amazing capabilities on the Hover X1 Pro, though…and it still folds. (Take that NEO)
I had the X1, loved it but wanted to adjust how far it would go backwards on the auto modes. did they change that yet? the distances weren't far enough.
@@PeterPham hi Peter. AFAIK the distances haven’t changed. If you prefer to track from father distances, you might prefer another drone. Hoverair was designed to shoot from distances that are more similar to a cameraman than a drone.
@epos_rising in each mode, there are adjustable parameters such as height and distance, and sometimes the option to turn tracking on or off. For follow and dolly track, the distance options are close, standard, or far.

Did you get a chance to try manual mode too? The fact that it can follow you up to 1km is impressive, does this also mean you can manually fly up to 1km away with the joystick controller and/or does this also mean that using the manual mode in the smartphone app, you can fly it up to 1km?
@@WouterSchoot good question! I wasn’t able to try manual mode. So one thing I’m wondering is what’s the lag like? I don’t know yet. As for phone range it’s definitely less than the beacon. Iirc it is 500m I think
@@WouterSchoot the quoted range is in ideal conditions with no obstructions etc. With trees it’s going to be less. Buildings reduce the range even more. I rarely use manual mode with x1 so I haven’t flown it that far. Maybe 30m at most 🙂
So, what about tracking me when I'm walking forward? follow me tracking is all people talk about but, no one dares to mention if it tracks as you walk towards it. How about side tracking? how about low angles? see, but, we're supposed to just to pre-order it because it's the new thing.
Tracking you from the front while you're walking is called "dolly track" in the app, while tracking from the side is called "side track". The x1 can do both and the promax and pro will also be able to do both. if you want to see what dolly track looks like, see my x1 review from last year: ruclips.net/video/S5mWwjEBNAc/видео.html But when I tested the promax at the pre-launch event, dolly track wasn't available yet, as i mentioned in the video. As for low angles, all hoverair models let you choose high, flat (eye level), or low angles for most modes (obviously not modes like bird's eye). for examples of high vs flat vs low, check out my x1 review from last year.
@@360vroomers Thanks, you mentioned in the X1 video that, it initiates landing if you stay in the same position for more than 3 sec & also it doesn't have obstacle avoidance when dolly-tracking & that you have to roboticly turn to prevent the X1 from switching to follow me mode from Dolly mode well, did they fixed these issues with the new one or it's still the same thing? if so, how fast the the dolly mode? also 42kp/h like in order modes? and lastly, you said we have 2 days to get $100 off the preorder, is the 2 days over now? why such a short time? @@Sir-Kay re dolly track, they now call it “super dolly track” implying some kind of improvement. But without having seen it or tested it, it’s hard to tell. Re initiating landing after 3 secs standing still, afaik that is by design. It is the way the drone can tell that you want to stop. I don’t know if the time can be lengthened. Re max speed in dolly mode, they implied it is lower. The founder’s video said something about the rear obstacle avoidance not being designed to work at very high speed. @@360vroomersWould tracking only based on the beacon assure that the subject is centered in the frame though ? I guess not. Could tracking any object become possible with a future SW update ?
@epos_rising in all tracking modes, it tries to keep the subject in the middle of the frame. Users have requested the option for off-center tracking (eg rule of thirds for side tracking) and they’re working on it. Re stationary nonhuman subjects, it is currently possible on modes that can turn off tracking. For example, I used my x1 to orbit around a parked car. For moving nonhuman subjects, it MIGHT be possible with the beacon but no one knows yet until we test.

off topic question for the owner of this channel- sorry, don't know your name I'm thinking of getting a new camera but I'm confused. I have an original X1. I'm considering an X4, or a "real" camera with real lenses (sacrificing 360 of course), and my first "smart" phone. Since I've never had a smart phone- I have no idea how good the photography and video can be on them- the better ones of course. What I don't understand is how can a tiny lens on a smart phone compare to the bigger lenses on a good 360 camera or a "real" camera? I suspect that the tiny lens can't compete with big lenses in low light situations, but how about on a nice sunny day?
Hi Joe. Thanks for reaching out and I’m happy to guide you. (My name is Mic Ty btw.) Can you share what kinds of videos you plan to capture. For example are you creating a RUclips channel where you will be vlogging a lot. Or are you creating a RUclips channel where you are mostly a talking head teaching things. Or is this for TikTok, Instagram, or something else. Depending on what videos you plan to create, I have different suggestions.
Mic, I forgot to add- I've never owned a smart phone- only ancient flip phones. So, I have no idea how good are smart phones for photography and especially video. Some people claim they're awesome. Some are 4K but I know that statistic doesn't prove anything. The lens is small so how good can it be compared to a camera with a much larger lens? Of course the more expensive smart phones will be better. Since I can't just try them out- it's tough to decide what to buy.

I agree. It's still a drone. It's annoying and hazardous on a crowed slope. And drones (doesn't matter how small the size is) are banned in all ski resorts across US. I don't get the point about this skiing ad and the ski bundle if it's banned in ski resorts.
Did you get a chance to find out about the extra object collision "vision" camera that the PRO MAX has? I see. I’ve wondered about that too. If I recall correctly, I think they said they just showed it to the ski resort and the ski resort allowed it. Possibly because of the cage, which is very soft. This drone looks awesome but I was wondering if you are testing the DJI Neo?
@@Budgettraveladventures sorry dji wouldn’t deign to ask a small channel like me to review anything. 😅 if u want a neo comparison, see Flytpath. I saw Aldryn at the Hoverair event and I’m guessing he has the Neo.
Hi Mic,
Nice overview without having the drones on hand to test.
I have a couple questions being new to drones:
1) how was the video quality indoor?

As you said well, low ground cameraman.

1:24 How did you get the X1 to track you with a full face mask. Mine would just dart off and fly into me
Really? Is your firmware updated? It tracks me even if I put down my visor.
@@360vroomersso the proMax can only follow you in a predetermined distance that is not adjustable. What is this distance?
@epos_rising in each mode, there are adjustable parameters such as height and distance, and sometimes the option to turn tracking on or off. For follow and dolly track, the distance options are close, standard, or far.

Tracking you from the front while you're walking is called "dolly track" in the app, while tracking from the side is called "side track". The x1 can do both and the promax and pro will also be able to do both. if you want to see what dolly track looks like, see my x1 review from last year: ruclips.net/video/S5mWwjEBNAc/видео.html
But when I tested the promax at the pre-launch event, dolly track wasn't available yet, as i mentioned in the video.
I mean, many of us aren't convinced yet but, we're supposed to make a purchasing decision even though they haven't fully released the review videos of what this new version can do? All I'm saying is, they rushed this thing and in psychology, we all know when a seller tries to create urgency, you';re been scammed. There will be a ton of "What they didn't tell you" videos coming up soon when the majority had already purchased this thing by mistake.
Re discount, the $100 discount period is over but if you order during the crowdfunding, I believe there is still a $70 discount.

Would one of these work for tracking my Jeep when im on the trail?
It's not certain. Hoverair was designed to track people. A car wouldn't normally be trackable but if you had a beacon ... then *possibly*. But there are no tests of the beacon yet so we don't know.
For moving nonhuman subjects, it MIGHT be possible with the beacon but no one knows yet until we test.

off topic question for the owner of this channel- sorry, don't know your name
I'm thinking of getting a new camera but I'm confused.
(My name is Mic Ty btw.)
Can you share what kinds of videos you plan to capture. For example are you creating a RUclips channel where you will be vlogging a lot. Or are you creating a RUclips channel where you are mostly a talking head teaching things. Or is this for TikTok, Instagram, or something else. Depending on what videos you plan to create, I have different suggestions.
@@360vroomers Mic, hmmm... I'll have to ponder this so I respond effectively. Thanks for the fast reply. Back soon.

Did you get a chance to find out about the extra object collision "vision" camera that the PRO MAX has? I read that they both have the time of flight sensor which should help with the object avoidance but the PRO MAX has a vision camera as well:
"Both the PRO and PROMAX have rear ToF (Time of Flight) proximity sensors while the PROMAX sports an additional visual sensor to keep you even safer. Currently the PRO and PROMAX support braking before collisions in speeds up to 3m/s."

Using a drone that follows you as skier on official ski slopes unfortunately is not permitted in Europe.
I see. I’ve wondered about that too. If I recall correctly, I think they said they just showed it to the ski resort and the ski resort allowed it. Possibly because of the cage, which is very soft.
