Hi there! Thanks for the test - 8K will be coming soon to all modes, and we've passed on your feedback about the overexposure to our camera team. Next time would be fun to see them at higher speeds and more turns :)
You are feeling the heat, guys! That's good. Please implement a buffer so the drone hovers in the air for 30 seconds before running out of battery and landing on the ground, please. Auto-landing without buffer is a death sentence.
@@EastTexasADV The new Hover is better, everywhere - just not for casuals, which is 90% of buyers. I've ordered purely because of the rear-facing camera and collision detection, but nobody has reviewed it. If it isn't good or doesn't work well, I'll sell it. If it does, game-changer.
@@BlackPrimeMinister everywhere on paper. This one test showed different. Hoverair advertised the drone as 8k not we are going to add 8k. So they lied. The second they lied. Just like they did on the CrowdFinding launch. Said it was only available for 48 hours. They did reduce the discount like promised but was only by 3%. I hope it's a good drone competition is great for people like you and I. It makes companies improve products. DJI has been top dog for a long time. This push will make new stuff even better.
That was fun! Both did really well. For the price the NEO is the clear winner as it is about a third the price with similar results. And you can FPV it!
@@DroneSupremacy Hopefully DJI tunes the NEO a bit better so you get less washout like they did with the OG Avata. DJI also needs to add some video tweeking in their FLy App and faster follow speeds which is really only a software limitation right now.
@@honeybadger5075 My comment was that it was similar for tracking but can do a bunch more stuff at a fraction of the price, so for me it's the clear winner as I use mine not just for the AI stuff but also as an FPV drone using Goggles with an FPV controller. Something the HoverAir X1 ProMax can not do and may never be able to do. In terms of tracking speed, I am hoping DJI sends out a firmware update for increased tracking speed which is only now a software limitation as the NEO can go 60 km/h when being used in full manual FPV mode.
Okay, got it, but they are not even close in tracking. Hover is much more capable with obstacle avoidance which cannot be added via a firmware. Will DJI increase tracking speed - a big big question, they may say it is unsafe because of lack of obstacle avoidance sensors. Yes, Neo can be used as FPV, but you should buy expensive staff for that, it's much more than the price of the Neo itself. So I still don't see the Neo as the clear winner. These are just different philosophies of drones, albeit looks similar from the first sight.
Neo is like having that amateur friend, who are still helpful to take your video (walking goofy who almost bump at u a few times; janky framing) While X1 ProMax is like having a videography enthusiast friend (perfect framing)
Both look pretty darn good! But the hover air is going to get my money. I already own some DJI drones, and to not have to worry about Geo fencing would be a great thing for me. Although I would miss the FPV access aspect that comes with the Neo.
Great test, thanks for making👍👍 ...I've just received mines from Indiegogo and made a RUclips unboxing vid but not flown yet...but after seeing your review I'm thinking if I made a mistake 🥴...having watched the comparison, I do believe the Neo has a more pleasing video look to it as the Pro Max does look a little washed out...the price difference between the two is huge and as such I believe the Neo is a better choice pound for pound. Hopefully HoverAir will update the firmware to be more worth the higher cost! Thanks again!
That was hilarious. Good way to start my day! Those drones both did pretty amazingly well though Mind you it sounded like you were being followed by a swarm of angry bees ! Have liked and subscribed. Still undecided about which one is best to buy.
I’ve been loving my Neo. I own a Spark, platinum, air 2, and air 3. Getting an avata 2 next. I love the Neo for what it is. FPV, camera, or follow me. It’s awesome little drone. Takes a hell of a beating too.
It is hard to call a winner except on price. The Hover does follow better as you correctly stated it stays back which allows it to adjust its movements more gracefully. The Neo is like a chihuahua that wants to crowd you and that causes it to mess up. The Neo oversaturated the sky and caused the shadows to be too dark. The Hover treats the shadows better, but overexposed some of the sky. Some of the light was also overexposed by the Hover. Considering the price is 199 for the Neo and 799 or more for the Hover, one must ask, what are you getting for an extra 600 bucks? I'm just not sure the Hover can be justified unless they add a whole lot more tricks to it's stable. In a bad economy, price is king so for Hover, if the price is adjusted below 500, there may be a case to be made for it.
Thanks for the vid! It would have been good to see you try to outrun them, I think the X1 is meant to be a lot faster? Let's face it, if you're going to film biking/snowboarding etc you are going to be riding a lot faster than in this test
cool, nice video! Can you load a video switching for a full screen from a drone to the other? I mean, on this small boxes image looks pretty similar, I guess ( and hope) full screen will be more evident the difference. TY
Two things Id like to know - which one is the noisiest - which one is the easiest to fly manual. I tried a friends Neo using a phone, and needed to fly slow towards a building with an area targeted, but I found it difficult to fly at a slower speed smoothly with the Neo. Im hoping there is some sort of cinematic mode with the Hoverair.
That was hilarious. Good way to start my day! Those drones both did pretty amazingly well though Mind you it sounded like you were being followed by a swarm of angry bees ! Have liked and subscribed.
At 3:30, it would be better if the Neo was set to “far,” similar to what you did with the hover. I loved how the hover captured some video of the Neo in flight from behind-that was so much fun! I have the original Hover and the Neo, and honestly, I don’t think the new Hover lives up to the hype. Neo all the way, especially since they overpromised and underdelivered with the Hover Pro Max.
Also seems like the Neo is cropped in compared to the ProMax - they are the same distance from you but the camera is much wider on the ProMax compared to the Neo.
Did you get ND Filters for Neo yet? I just Got Neo (month delay in US) and had Freewell Magnetic filters ready to go. Also if you use a compatible controller for Neo (RC-2 for Air 3/Mini 4 Pro is perfect) you can set sharpening to -2 and same for Noise Reduction. Much improved image with these changes.
Could you possibly bike faster at the maybe a trail with more turns with the x1? I'm particularly interested in it's speed. I tried that with a neo and unfortunately it couldn't keep up.
Price reflects features. Hover wins on features. The DJI Neo is a great buy for an entry drone with fun features and the option of FPV. This footage looks better on DJI. However, the Hover Pro Max has an option to add their ND filters to adjust for the exposure and possible improvements through firmware updates. The Hover also jumps ahead because it has the larger sensor, more natural sharpness, obstacle avoidance, rear AND side cameras, higher wind resistance, 2 avis (vs 1) stabilization, vertical mode, fast charging, ability to fly over water and snow, more internal storage and option of adding 1 SD card, can run independent of ever installing the app, and at least the option of 8K in some modes (good for cropping, more options likely coming via firmware). I'm buying the Hover Pro Max first. I might buy the DJI NEO or the Mini4 later for FPV.

@@DroneSupremacy The Neo (without controller) will only fly and follow a person. Maybe start simple as possible with just a piece of cardboard cut in a rough human shape? Then a smiley. My all fully spec'd version arrived yesterday and my first thought is I have been sold a lie. The video quality on the Hover is terrible and I bought it for 8K which has never been discussed as not being available in many modes. I'll hold full judgement until I have tried mine out.
I think there's another video from a german guy cycling way faster in a forested area. There were lots of sharp turns with challenging obstacles and the Dji was left in the dust.
Why do you assume I work for Hoverair. I'm from Singapore and I'm a swim coach. I just bought the first X1 Pro with my hard earned cash. I've seen what the Neo can and can't do and what I'm stating are pure facts. So please do not go about shooting off your mouth unnecessarily. 😂
Neo for price and video quality. X1 Promax for everything else. It's a question of do you need a small drone for a good price and good video quality with the ability to do FPV OR do you need a drone for everything else.
The drone battle between the DJI Neo and Hover Air X1 Pro Max was entertaining, but I was disappointed to learn the X1 Pro Max can't shoot 8K in follow mode as advertised. Both drones had exposure issues that might be correctable in post-processing, and the Neo seemed a bit too close while following, while the X1 Pro Max struggled slightly. Flying two drones simultaneously was interesting, but it's possible it affected their performance. Despite these issues, the video was enjoyable, and I'm curious to see how these drones perform in future tests with some adjustments.
Llamar extremo a este test es de risa, cuando en ningún momento vas a más de 15 km/h… en cuanto vayas un poco más rápido el Neo deja de seguirte. Para dar paseos está bien, para deportes de aventura mejor el hover.
I like the color science from the Neo, but it is bad at framing. It could be a few feet further away or move you into the frame so your whole bike and body are included. It keeps your head in the middle and cuts off the lower part of you. The Promax does a better job with framing. But I think falls short with exposure.
HoverAir Composition was better, the DJI oversharpened look is bad and the fact you can't change it in the app without a controller attached is a shame.
@@DroneSupremacy codec can’t change the appearance of the video. Are you sure you didn’t record in HLG instead? This may explain better possible issues…
I'm really disappointed with the X1 Pro Max's performance on your video, especially the poor exposure and poor white balance. It looks good on paper, but the product was definitely not ready for prime time (Zero Zero Robotics made a big mistake here). If DJI can bring out a Neo 2 with a better sensor and a faster follow mode, that would be great.
Neo is a clear winner. I have given it a spin while being on Electric Sctoor through a Foresty Track and ots performance was simply mind blowing. Being an owner of multiple recent drones! Neo still surprises me for the value it brings to the table. But it was a great fun comparison to watch

- works for Hoverair
Why do you assume I work for Hoverair. I'm from Singapore and I'm a swim coach. I just bought the first X1 Pro with my hard earned cash. I've seen what the Neo can and can't do and what I'm stating are pure facts. So please do not go about shooting off your mouth unnecessarily. 😂
Could be! I tried to be as fair as possible and use them in the exact same location. Maybe some denser forest areas next time :)
@@xantophyllchinese singapore words really cannot be trusted
Neo for price and video quality. X1 Promax for everything else. It's a question of do you need a small drone for a good price and good video quality with the ability to do FPV OR do you need a drone for everything else.
Agreed!
Cool !!
They said last week that 8k for all modes is coming in an update. So I guess they just didn't have everything fully ready in the release day firmware.
The updates will enable 8k in all shooting modes. The X1 pro series will only get better with time as they introduce more firmware releases.
I agree, can't wait for that FW update!
Llamar extremo a este test es de risa, cuando en ningún momento vas a más de 15 km/h… en cuanto vayas un poco más rápido el Neo deja de seguirte. Para dar paseos está bien, para deportes de aventura mejor el hover.
Go on about brightness thats what the nd filters are for
Great video
Much appreciated!
Best review
Both drones did fine but you can't beat the price of the DJI NEO !
That's correct!
its greats, i love it. but i only have neo. 😂 i think both is the same on accuracy😊
They're very close indeed!
I like the color science from the Neo, but it is bad at framing. It could be a few feet further away or move you into the frame so your whole bike and body are included. It keeps your head in the middle and cuts off the lower part of you.
The Promax does a better job with framing. But I think falls short with exposure.
All they need is a firmware update to be able to adjust the distance. Could even make it able to follow from different positions.
Side by side Ready FIGHT 😂
At 6:45, the HoverAir X1 lost the tracking target.
HoverAir Composition was better, the DJI oversharpened look is bad and the fact you can't change it in the app without a controller attached is a shame.
The Hover video looks like garbage... 3x the price of the Neo for what?!
Yes I agree with Avoletta. It is way too expensive with flight pack. I would stick with Neo. Hoverx pro max cannot do FPV.
Yeah i'm not a very big fan of it too. Might be something to do with the codecs, i used h.265 for this test. I was expecting a bit more too tbh
@@DroneSupremacy codec can’t change the appearance of the video. Are you sure you didn’t record in HLG instead? This may explain better possible issues…
The Neo couldn't keep up with your speed.
I wasn't going fast lol
@@DroneSupremacy well that's even worse. Lol... How fast can the neo track? Only somewhere around 15mph right?
it's a crime if DJI Neo wins considering price and all the bells and whistles of the X1 Pro Max
Yeah
Now I want to buy 4 or 5 Neos and have them follow me around all day lol
Imagine the look of it.. LOL
Neo cut the hover air off and didn't use the blinker lol
Neo is a savage lol
Really funny😅👍🏼
Nice
Thanks
DJI still has the better video quality
I think so too
I'm really disappointed with the X1 Pro Max's performance on your video, especially the poor exposure and poor white balance.
They act & sound like to large ‘Green bottle flies’ fight over food, 😂😂
🤣That was hilarious.
😂 They’re a pair of animals!
haha absolutely
God, I hope the Hover wins... At that $650 price...
Early to say, more tests are needed :)
This is fascinating, seeing the two fighting for space. The Neo is absolutely better for exposure and tracking.
you can't fix overexposure in post lol
True, you can kinda hide it to an extent though
Capcut is mighty
