    Thank you for making this series of videos! I just picked up a ttr 125 that has a grinding noise in the case. It will be a great project to tackle with my kids

    I'm having the same issue getting the crank apart, where you paused the camera and rejoined the video, and it was apart. What is holding it after you get it about 1/2 to 3/4 inches apart and how did you get past it?

    A tip for them case screws would be to use an impact driver. I have yet to strip a screw, removing or tightening.

      Ya always use the proper bit lol but I do like how you point out the difference in the 2 types.

    Tom, Just bought the flywheel puller you recommended in the video from Harbor Freight. Can you confirm you put a socket over the bolt on the shaft for the puller to push on? What size socket did you use if you used one. Thanks!

      I don’t remember if I did, I guess if I show it on the video then I did! I cannot remember what size it would be....

    Hi Tom,
    I need to remove the gears on the input shaft to replace the second pinion gear but the first gear won't slide off easily there isn't any cir-clips holding it on to my knowledge, do I just need to give it a pull with a gear puller or am I missing something? Don't really want to go yanking on it if thats not the way to do it.

    • @TomsTinkeringandAdventures
      @TomsTinkeringandAdventures  4 года назад

      Matthew Hughes I’m sorry, don’t remember. Some of the gears do have clips. I am always hesitant to start using force but sometimes you have to. Let me know how it turns out.

      @@TomsTinkeringandAdventures I just heated it up a little and got a bearing puller on it with an impact and it slowly pulled off. Not sure how it's going to go back on at the moment though, maybe try sweating it back on like a bearing

    • @TomsTinkeringandAdventures
      @TomsTinkeringandAdventures  4 года назад

      Matthew Hughes maybe put the gear in the oven at 200 degrees or so for a while? Done that with motorcycle engine cases when installing main bearings...don’t tell my wife!

    Hey Tom, Got my second wind after dinner. Went back to the garage to split the engine and ended up stripping the shift star bolt. Can you confirm that it has to be removed to split the engine? You sounded like you were not 100% certain in your video. Thanks!

    • @TomsTinkeringandAdventures
      @TomsTinkeringandAdventures  3 года назад

      I’m sure the manual says it has to come off, but you might be able to try to keep all of the transmission in the right side case when you split it. Worst case, you have to figure out how to get the stripped bolt out.

      @@TomsTinkeringandAdventures Thanks. Yea, stripped bolts really hurt moral! I will let you know what I find inside. Again, great videos!

    Just got one tore down with a bad rod bearing, how do I split the crank to replace?

  • @thestreetandoffmotovlogs828
    @thestreetandoffmotovlogs828 3 года назад +1

    Do I have to tear both sides open to get to the crankshaft because mine is sized and I bought a new one

    • @TomsTinkeringandAdventures
      @TomsTinkeringandAdventures  3 года назад

      Yes, both sides will need to be opened up and parts removed in order to get the crankshaft removed

    Hey Tom I have a ttr 125 with the kick start jamming any idea

    • @TomsTinkeringandAdventures
      @TomsTinkeringandAdventures  3 года назад

      Pull the side cover, make sure everything is set up correctly with the kick start gear/spring/etc. They are a bit tricky to get right.

    does this engine have a crank seal. mine runs lean when hot

    • @TomsTinkeringandAdventures
      @TomsTinkeringandAdventures  5 лет назад

      Thomas Bryce I don’t remember, but a crank seal on a four stroke won’t affect that. I would look into jetting.
