This is the best video I've seen someone make on how to work on a vehicle. This guy is very descriptive, gives alternate ways of performing a task, the camera is always in the perfect position, tells you the torque specs, list every tool your going to need at the beginning of the video, time stamped the video, and has links to the parts and special tools in the description. Great video man, keep up the good work!
2016 chevy sonic...1st time changing timing belt, did it solo...followed these steps but had the locking tool kit and hand tools...took me 5hrs...she fired up...drove it across the yard, parked it and celebrated with a cold one...thank you for the video...
Excellent video saved my butt. I bought the locking tool kit it was junk didn’t fit thought I was sunk then I watched your video how to simply marked the teeth on the gears in relation to the plastic housing genius! But I have to say it took me about 17 hours not 20 minutes like in your video LOL. For other people reading some of the troubles I ran into were loosening my drainage plug. A cheap nylon screw very flimsy I wasted 45 minutes and finally pulled one of the hoses off to drain the coolant. The other problem I had was putting the splash guard back on pieces were missing so I just used a few zip ties and drilled a couple holes no she’s tighter than ever. One other issue was when I was all done I had a cooler line leak where the aluminum pipe attaches to the thermostat housing luckily I had an O-ring that would fit and was able to secure it without a leak. Again great video thank you so much for taking the time.If you’re ever on the big island in Hawaii say hello Mahalo Dave
After many hours of trying to get the timing belt over the tensioner I finally found this video, which showed me I needed to remove the locking tool from between the cam sprockets and turn the intake cam to tighten the belt between the camshaft sprockets. Once that was done I had enough belt to get it onto the timing belt tensioner in a few seconds. Thank you for showing this method of changing the belt.
Im not a Mechanic, But my notice light came on for timing belt replacement at 100k miles. on my chevy cruz 2014. I want to commend you on such a well presentation video. everything was so well explained and with details process videos. Unfortunately for me I dont have all the correct tools to do this myself but if I did i would have no problem doing this job after seeing your video. WELL DONE! you earned a subscriber for sure!
Thanks for this video. I just did my daughter’s car changing timing belt and water pump. I did it step by step just like you did and it went perfectly!! Thanks
Fantastic detailed video and I dont even have a Chevy Cruze. The instructions and details were very clear and it was a pleasure to learn the sequence and methods used in this installation. Thank you!
Thanks for the video. Got a Sonic timing belt job in the morning and found your video while looking for some tips. Nice, professional video. Thanks again, from one tech to another.
Unlike other videos I watched this one was dead on factual and informative, however if you are not experienced, I do not recommend doing this without the locking tools. Being off one tooth could be catastrophic
Well done!! That was one of the best instructional videos I’ve seen. To the point, sufficiently detailed and very comprehensive. After watching this I would be confident to have a go at this repair. Again well done 👍
Great video. It also shows that the fancy camshaft tools aren't needed, like the 3 mechanics I've been to insist on having, forcing me to a dealer. Turns out the dealer is as cheap as those mechanics anyway on the estimates for all this. FYI, nearly all of them are around the $1300 range for timing belt, Idler Pulley, Tensioner, and water pump.
Mine is a Rigid C-12, it is a little too small for some jobs, I would recommend getting a C-14 at least. I'll add a link in the description later this evening.
I have the cam locking tool and it seems to make it almost impossible to get the belt back on with no slack in between the cams, because they cannot move
The service team got popped on my 2014 Chevy Cruz I pulled up at the store shut the engine off got back in and it wouldn't stand it wouldn't start when I got home I noticed the Belt was shredded I put a new one And Will not run correctly Does anyone have any suggestions
Thanks thats a great video .. i change my timing belt , but my car won't start , what it could be ? My car stop runing on the street with time belt was damage from the teeths
Theres probably some valve damage. If the timing belt broke with the engine running - pistons could've hit the valves, which would cause a compression issue. Next step is check the compression in each cylinder.
I don't have an impact wrench or crankcase locking tool. Can I use a screwdriver or something similar to lock the flywheel? Otherwise, I'll put it top gear with the handbrake on to remove the crankshaft balancer bolt.
I've replaced timing belts before without setting the engine at TDC, just made sure cams and crank were in the exact same position as they were when I took the old belt off.
From the standpoint of torquing the crank pulley bolt properly - yes. But if you're just concerned about keeping it in time - no. There are timing marks to keep it in time.
I have a question I put a timing belt on my stepdaughters 214 Chevy Cruz 1.8 everything is lined up it is sitting a cold for the camshaft being at a time

Very good video, Best I have seen for a while..
Very nice!
Good work, very professional.
You need a smaller glove size though...😉
Haha thank you! bigger gloves are faster to take on and off in case I need to answer my phone etc. 📱
Would you have a link where to purchase the chain wrench. What make and model is it. Thanks
Mine is a Rigid C-12, it is a little too small for some jobs, I would recommend getting a C-14 at least. I'll add a link in the description later this evening.
I have the cam locking tool and it seems to make it almost impossible to get the belt back on with no slack in between the cams, because they cannot move
Just the video I was looking for. I’ll skip the locking tools on this one. I’m running out of space 😅
What are the signs and situations that need to be adjusted and changed?
Nice information
How the world did you tighten down the harmonic balancer to spec?
Great video like wow, nice job
The phasers won't spring back on you after releasing tension?
Do still spare bucket shim.thx
Great video thanks
You're a very organized youtuber, I hope your channel grows. I just subscribed to you!
Were those motor mount bolts not TTY, one time use?
Awesome video 👌🤝

Thanks!
very helpfull
This is above my limits; What should the cost be for water pump and timing belt cruze 2015 1.8 l parts and labor
Just A1! Are you also a teacher?
I replaced the timing belt and oil cooler, now my engine in making a rattling noise. Any idea what it could be? I’m afraid that I did something wrong
About how long did all of this take you?
How many miles were on this car when this service was done?
The service team got popped on my 2014 Chevy Cruz I pulled up at the store shut the engine off got back in and it wouldn't stand it wouldn't start when I got home I noticed the Belt was shredded I put a new one And Will not run correctly Does anyone have any suggestions

great video. Do you have one of doing the head gasket on the 1.8l? All the ones I see are for the 1.4l
I do not, not yet at least
I don't have an impact wrench or crankcase locking tool. Can I use a screwdriver or something similar to lock the flywheel? Otherwise, I'll put it top gear with the handbrake on to remove the crankshaft balancer bolt.
If you can get to it with a screw driver, I dont see why not
Is it necessary to have it on top dead, or can you remove the belt without rotating the engine?
I've replaced timing belts before without setting the engine at TDC, just made sure cams and crank were in the exact same position as they were when I took the old belt off.
Where is he located
👏👍🏿👍🏿
Hey, I was in other videos, they lock the flying wheel as well using a tool, is that important?
From the standpoint of torquing the crank pulley bolt properly - yes. But if you're just concerned about keeping it in time - no. There are timing marks to keep it in time.
@@MakeItEasyMechanic Thanks Mate
