    Thank You SIR. My 2014 Chevy Cruze is taken apart but I kept delaying the job since I was not sure that I could verify everything is at TDC. Now I believe I can finish the job comfortably and with peace of mind. Greatly appreciate your time, effort, and expertise.

    Thank you, as a 3rd gen engineer following after a mechanic who did some interesting things with t belt replacement.
    Like not changing idler pulley because drive belt tensioner bolt is frozen.
    And didn't change water pump. ( both of which have failed hence I have it).
    I was certain timing was out, because of things you said, I know know my instincts were correct.
    Take my hat off to you.
    ( old time sign of respect from a time long gone).
    43yrs trade life and 3rd gen engineer just had his hair saved from being pulled out by the roots.
    Sincere thanks😉🙂👍👍

    I just went through this exact scenario in the last 2 days.
    I set the marks equal like a person would think with the dots lined up evenly and in the end after setting the tension on the belt the mark on the left intake sprocket would drop downward making them unequally lined up.
    I literally had to take the blocks out, loosen the intake sprocket and twist it one tooth and then I got the desired results that you're showing.....
    So my question is why in the heck did they design it like this and use that tool without instructions leaving the technician to believe that everything is supposed to line up equally??!

    If replacing the inlet and exhaust cams, how do you line them up when taking the old ones off and putting the new ones on??

    A very precise explanation, with clear images as usual, this means professionalism, to which I can add an extraordinary vocal timbre that demonstrates the safety of a well done thing. In the future if you can show the use of the oscilloscope in certain situations We can learn more about mechanics from you. Thank you very much.

    Hi have the exact problem is it ok turn exhaust sprocket by hand so timing plate tool sits in slot on back of shaft. Sorry for asking this but you didn’t explain what is involved in correcting position of camshaft being a bit out.I know that I should undo camshaft bolt and put timing mark on sprocket where it should be after so no problems in future. Thanks

    What is the process of lining up the camshafts with that metal straight tool … do I gotta remove sprockets and Some how turn the camshaft or something?

  • @razvanturcu9871
    @razvanturcu9871 10 месяцев назад +1

    Just one question:
    On the surface that sits on the camsfaft, the camgears don't have a groove, so when replacing them, they can go in any position. In this case, are the 2 dots on the camgears that important, if the back of the cams line up?

    • @dar1020
      @dar1020 17 дней назад

      that's what i thought too....and i was asking myself...looks like to me that the real timing adjustment is done with the bottom crankshaft and with the camshafts ends and relative tool

    am trying to put the new timing belt on. I had the locking tool in place between the camshaft sprockets with marks for all three sprockets sitting where they needed to be.
    Upon attempting to slide the new belt on, I had the crankshaft sprocket on the bottom actually rotate clockwise about a 1/2 tooth. I am unable to simply rotate it back counterclockwise because the bolt is not a reverse thread and therefore doest grab going on that direction.
    What would you recommend at this point? I still have the top camshafts locked in place with their timing marks in the proper position.

      Use a rattle gun to put crank bolt back on temporary.
      Don't go to crazy with the rattle gun tho as you want it just tight enough so you can turn the motor backwards if need be like you needed

    Great Video. I am about to do the timing belt on my 2012 Zafira 1.6. What I've noticed is that the timing marks on both camshafts don't line up as per yours. Is it possible the camshaft(s) have been replaced at some time and when front wheels have been put back incorrectly. At TDC do the cam lobes face into the engine or face out? Hope you can help.

    Hi. Great video.. When you checked alignment marks. Did you make adjustment by loosening timing belt and just turning the one shaft to mate the indent to the tool? What was the failure code generated? Thanks

    • @GerardBurkeBurkesGarage
      @GerardBurkeBurkesGarage  2 года назад +5

      Thanks very much.
      It had no fault code stored, the adjustment of the timing was made on the camshaft adjusters (I removed the timing belt)
      The outer cap needs to be removed and then the camshaft adjuster sprocket can be moved once the bolt is loosed on the camshaft. (camshaft sprockets have no locating keyway on the cams)
      If you are just doing the timing belt it is very unlikely you will need to make any adjustments like that unless previously done incorrectly.
      Again thanks for watching, I appreciate the feedback.

    Question if I've replaced timing belt and water pump and put it back together a little bit out do you think that I might be able to rectify it by eyeing up the timing marks without taking of the tappet/camshaft cover and using the locking bar???

    • @dmrftg6000

      I know comment was 8 months ago & you have probably sorted it out, but for other people reading the comments, no, the cam pulley’s & crank might line up & be in the correct position’s, but the cams can still be out because there is no key way’s on the cams! So you need the cams in the correct positions before you tighten the cam pulley’s!

    Yea I do a lot of of my work on opel I have the master timing kit if saves so much time and give you a peace of mind also. We'll done and on you for sharing. I am thinking of just specialising in 5 brands and keep it at that it's getting very expensive for all service data and wiring diagrams and back home hear in Ireland we are only 8 years from no more Diesel or Petrol engines allowed

    • @GerardBurkeBurkesGarage
      @GerardBurkeBurkesGarage  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Ian, much appreciated buddy.
      It's an expensive game to try an keep a pace with in so many areas and financially at times can be impossible. 5 brands is an interesting concept, I am sure you have given it plenty of thought.
      I will be more than likely attending some EV courses early to mid next year. I am pretty excited about that and getting hands on.
      It's never dull that's for sure :)
