- 2014 Chevrolet Cruze with a 1.8L engine has a P0171 and a P0300, both of these codes caused by the same component. In this video i'm going to show you how to diagnose a lean condition, but the concept applies to any vehicle with a p0171 or a p0174. Yo hektor , I almost fell for autozone telling me It was my intake , and valve cover had me ordering $300 worth of parts I had a scanner but didn't know much about fuel trims and how that works , I stumbled on this video and after a new purge the cruze is all set to go . The big part of this is I'mma single dad of three girls 10 , 12 , and 14 and that money I was able to save went a long way at the grocery store at a time I'm out of work due to covid , just wanted you to know your not just teaching people how to fix cars ur helping us keep money in our pockets when money is so tight rn thanks brother I really appreciate ya , and Tom cruze is still running smooth take care , God bless , and peace out
Careful, this doesn't happen often, sometimes it could be a combo of damaged intake booth not measured by the MAF.
That's why it's recommended you take it to a shop for proper diagnostic services.
Did yo car have problems starting wen u drive it around
@@2nickles647 I scanned it with my scanner and had em scan it to see what they said
I named my Cruze Tom as well..
I am a master Chrysler mechanic I can always learn from this guy he is a great tech
A true master would never call himself a master 🤣
The master has now become the student
Is there anything that you can't fix, you're one of the smartest techs i know of here on youtube. keep doing your thing sir, you're time is coming.
Agreed 100%
Same here!!! You need your own shop bud!
What about the Maf sensor
Man this is a fantastic video that helped me fix my son's Cruze who's in college. Every dollar saved counts. I learn so much from guys like yourself that educate the public but definitely don't have too. I really appreciate your help. Very kind indeed. Take care my friend. 👍
Thanks for the video, Hector. This helped me a lot. I was convinced I had an issue with my IAV, and decided to check this instead since the symptoms were similar and it has been impossible to find a IAV outside of the dealership. Fortunately, I saw your video and now my wife can give me back my car.
I just learned more from you then the other 5 videos I watched combined. Amazing job!
Fantastic explanation. I repair appliances for a living so I work on all my own stuff. This video totally explains diagnosing the P0171 well. My 2013 Cruze 1.8L was having this code. Was going to replace the O2 sensor. However after watching this was able to test, sure enough my purge valve wasn’t sealing. Thanks again for the help!!!
I love his knowledge. I need a regular mechanic like this.
One of the best mechanical videos I've seen definitely gained a subscriber
This helped me fix my corsa in the UK. Thanks! Very good diagnosis process. Made sense what I was looking for.
Kyle Dix that’s awesome bro 👍🏼
This video was exactly what my needed! I took my car to the dealership, pep-boys and 4 other mechanics and noo one was able to tell me what was wrong with it! I spent over $1500 taking it from shop to shop, I saw this vid, bought the part for $40 and solved the problem!! You are a god!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Glad it helped 🤝
@@HomieHektor thank you, I'm starting my own mechanic busy thank you for your insight on problems we over look
Hello my car is running very rich I can smell it going up a hill burning up gas like crazy please help
I literally took my vauxhall corsa 1.2 3door 2014 to a couple different mechanics regarding lean engine p00171 and none of them had a clue what it was. Thanks to this video I changed the Breather valve all on my own, took me 2 minutes. If it wasn’t for you Hector the mystery in my car wouldn’t have ever been solved!!
That’s awesome Homie 🙌🏼
Thank you, this was the problem. I have had this idle issue with a po171 code for my 2011 Chevy Cruze for almost two yrs. I did a lot of searching and fixed other issues related to it, but I could never find anything that related the issue this video showed. I'm sure other videos and info is out there, but I never came across it. My purge valve had just a slight suction when there shouldn't have been one. I got a new one and noticed the change right away. It fixed my problem.
Thank you sooooo much for your videos. You have helped me so much with my 2013 Chevy Cruze. It's been giving me one problem after another. If not for you, I would have had to pay mechanics to fix it and realistically could not afford that right now. So again Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!
You do the eork yourself my lady friend I'm excited to try myself once my warranty runs out. Is it hard going the work yourself
Have been popping a P0171 code for about a year now. Keep resetting it, which does me for awhile but then it pops up again. Finally decided to search for the issue. Came across NUMEROUS videos regarding this code, but yours is the ONLY one checking the purge valve....and lo and behold, upon checking this before heading to work this morning, my purge valve is sucking air. Have now ordered a replacement and hope to be back without codes soon. Thank you so much for your excellent explanation and descriptive video....I miss the old days of drag racing my easy to work on 72 Chevelle, none of this cheap plastic and emissions crap throughout the car....just a 350 4-bolt that you could sit on top of while working on it. 🙂
The Good Ole Days…
Good shit homie, very articulated and spot on with the execution. Keep on conveying that needed information homes.
You just helped save me a lot of money finally found the issue I was having on my 2016 Cruz. I appreciate the video!
Wat problems u was having
You look like a very honest mechanic which is very rear keep up the good work you'll be in business ever
This tutorial helped me out immensely. Faulty purge valve!
Young and very smart.... you're a tech that's gonna go a long ways
CASTLEDOME KNIVES gracias 🙏🏼
Thank you so much I’m sitting here at work killing myself looking for this vacuum leak on a 2012 Cruze and this really helped me narrow it down to the valve cover you’re awesome thank you so much!
Homie Hector, I’m so glad to have found you homie. You’re very knowledgeable compared to the wannabes bruh. Yeah you’re definitely going to make it big!
Appreciate that 🤝
You are a genius, cool, awesome and all of the above. Thank you Hektor, you are a life saving champion
That homie hector just made my new year ! Found my bad purge valve 🤘thanks bro
2022 🙌🏼
EXCELLENT video ! Simple and to the point !! Best explanation on YOU TUBE !!! THANK YOU !!!
Outstanding! Awesome ! Great job. Keep it up and you will be the best mechanic out there. I am impressed. Good-luck. Good tutorial and checking ratios and measurements with scanner before after taking a decision to change parts
Awesome video! Hector, thank you for bringing your knowledge in to the internet!
Thank you. I have this issue as I'm watching your video. Well done.
Very useful vid. I changed the purge valve and it fix the problem on my 2015 Trax. Thanks a lot 👍👍keep making more vids.
Mario P Hell yeah 🙌🏼 that’s awesome, Thanks for subscribing 👊🏼
Thank you Hector. Simple perfect instructional video. Keep up the good work I love it
YES! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've been chasing my tail for months with this issue. THANK YOUUUUUUUU!!!
I think this is my issue too ill find out this week fingers crossed 🤞
Very informative video! Currently dealing with some issues with my 2014 chevy cruze 1.8 l4. Jerking a little when in idle along with the rpm dropping when i’m parked. I bought a new valve gasket and i’ll get it switched out if it’s needs to. But first i’m gonna need to find out what codes it sends out. Thank you!
I had the P0171 code happen to me last year. It was an indication of a vacuum leak, which turned out to be a bad vacuum hose. All that needed to be done was change the vacuum hose and the problem was solved. I'm always happy when the repair is quick and simple.
GrnArrow sometimes it’s that simple 🤙🏼
Yeah but how often does that actually happen? Not too often for me. Maybe it’s just a streak of car nightmares
This video was a huge help bro! Appreciate you 🙏
Thanks Hector I fixed my friends car.Nice thanks sharing with viewers. Love it and utube..keep it coming..
Good thing that it was the purge valve that caused that lean condition but in my car it turned out be an O2 sensor going bad. Thank you for the video and good troubleshooting.
Excellent info! Thanks for the purge test vs valve cover replacement.
Great video bro awesome tech techniques very good job man keep doing what your doing ✊🏼👍🏼
great vid, I am having lean issues and this is such good information
.
Great diagnostic process.
You gotta think of all possibilities.
Volusia-ev Figure out what’s right with the car, and the wrong will jump out at you 👍🏼
hello my 2015 Chevy Cruze 1.4 is running to rich when I pass some one on A hill you can smell it when I press on the gas pedal stinks
My purge valve is brand new so that's not the problem I've already checked that probably A 02 sensor going bad or something any ideas would be appreciated
I blew into my purge valve and air was flowing through with ease. Best diagnosis ever, even if your car has no problems always good to remove the breather valve and blow into it incase.
Curry Flurry 👍🏼
👌🏻
Nice job!! Ruled out all possibilities and verified... awesome
Great video bro!! Got a P0171 code, gonna take a look this weekend. Thank you, god bless 🙏🏻
Hey man, your video helped me out ! Thank you very much for your professional video! most appreciated!
Great video! Nothing wrong what so ever with it. The only comment I have is that when you said the O2 sensor readings were a dead give away that its a vacuum leak, some extra info on why that is would be great. Further teaching the masses on how to diagnose. Again, not necessary and great video regardless. :)
Thank you for sharing man, keep up the good work.
Outstanding video!
I just bought one of these scanners the other day and there really aren't many good familiarization videos out there on how to use it. The book is "meh" at best. At work, all we have is Snap-On. Im not real impressed by them... they dont seem to have the functionality that these Autel scanners have (or they are WAAAAYYY overpriced). So, thank you for the great explanation with the car AND the scanner.
👍👍
Good video and keep on doing more, and may the Lord bless you.
That was an outstanding tutorial Hektor. I enjoyed this one.
wyatt It was a fun one 🎥💨
I already changed that purge valve my check engine light on is for mass air flow sensor and PO 171 bank 1 up stream 02 sensor
I love your intro! Keep up the good work
And just like that, you helped me trouble shoot the problem with my GFs cruze. Thanks!
This is great. I came to same conclusion on my car before I even got to this video, My deduction was made up on different experiences of others, however I can say that cleaning my purge valve did the trick for me. Therre are a lot of these valves used and you may or may not be lucky. My valve costed 130€ for 1.6 engine while 1.4 engine costed about 15€. Plus, 1.4 engine valve was widely available and my engine' valve was obtainable only by dealer. So I took it off, tested with battery (solenoid was clicking fine) and I cleaned it with brake cleaner. After three runs it was sealing perfect and I returned it to its position. You may want to test it and try to fix it before you buy new one, just my 2 cents.
Your the man. Thanks boss keep it up. Wish I found ya sooner!
thank you, Hector Homie, by watching your videos, on you tube. it help me a lot, I , Replace the purge valve on 2013 chevy cruze that was smoking a lot.
Now my car is like a new one. code P0171 . now is clear. thank you and God bless. now i, HAVE A MECHANIC IN YOU TUBE.

Thank you, this video is perfect and very helpful.
Very very good explanations! Thank ya.
Very helpful. Appreciate you my guy
Just came across your channel and like it quite a bit.
But it should be a rule that every southern tech MUST spend at least 2 years in the north learning the trade-if for nothing else but to know what hat it's like for us.
Good stuff amigo! my daughter's 13 cruze is actin up so she just dropped it off and took one of my vehicles. SUB'd
Great video Hector!
Great video very informative and to the point thank you 👍
Outstanding job bro.
This is fantastic!! Our Chevy Trax has the same codes, P0171 and P2270, we just got a warranty extension about the purge valve!!!
Thanks Hektor I just went to the auto parts store and changed the purge valve now no stalling at park and not needing to press the gas when I start the vehicle
That is what I’m talking about 🙌🏼
Thanks bro. you just saved me alot of money.
Nice 👍🏼 Feel free to use the gratitude link in the description. Glad it helped 🙌🏼
Nice video homie. Gotta check that valve on my wife’s Chevy trax.

C Jr Not yet. I bought a new car and kept this as well I don’t have a garage right now and will be back on this when warm weather gets here. I would love to know if you make any progress! Good luck and please keep me posted.
@@Justmi2cents me too same codes ans a few more
Yo , thanks 🙏 u saved my day , I did head gasket on it but I keep getting those codes couldn't find leaks. THANKS
The knowledge! Thanks hommie.
Good shit bro thanks for tips 🤙
Thanks homie...helped me alot.😊
This is exactly what was wrong with my 2017 Buick Encore! For anyone in Canada, the purge valve is covered under a special extended warranty that outlasts the regular powertrain as GM apparently knows how faulty this is. If you bring it to your dealer and you’re still in that window, chances are it’ll be 100% covered under warranty. Wish I saw this video before though, and could’ve avoided the dealership all together!!
Great video bro
Very knowledgeable man
Sweet, fixed gf Cruze. Thanks!
Right on Hektor!! I appreciate your videos. Your vid’s are so helpful!! Single dad and I work on all our vehicles myself to save that dollar.
Keep ‘em coming!! Bless you and stay safe bro.
