- Just wanted to give a walk around and some of the history of the 42 car. Also to start it up for you all! Hope you enjoy it. Don't forget to check out the Grassroots NASCAR Racing Facebook page below.

Always one of my favorite paint schemes as a kid. Sounds good too. I would run the crossover pipe like you said. I would also put a set of Dr. Gas Nascar Boom Tubes on it.
Mello Yello and the Hot Wheels car!
One of the coolest paint schemes of that era, I dig the William Byron gear 👍
I’m glad someone who knows what to look for bought this car. I almost bought this car. I went and looked at in person, but had no clue what to look for to authenticate it’s back story. It was advertised to me as his race winning Watkins Glen car from ‘92. I had a little money at the time and was just looking to get into vintage race cars. Good luck man. I’m going to subscribe to keep up with what all you guys are doing.
Haha! Yep, he advertised it to me the same way. Just looking at the pictures I could tell that likely wasn't correct, but it seemed like a pretty cool and well built car so it came home with me.
Thanks for the video, brought back memories of races past. Cool car & sound. Always great to see old school race cars in good shape and running.
Here’s some info that may or may not be helpful to answering questions about this car.
I live in north Alabama. Around 1982-84, Mello Yello was new product and highly promoted in this region of U.S. Even though my town was very small, not even one red light, our local store had lots of prizes in a drawing (put your name in a box to win). I don’t know if this contest was statewide or nationwide, but each selected store had its own main prize. Our local mom and pop store actually had a Mello Yello go kart as a prize. It was fiberglass body on a go kart frame. The most white trash kid in our neighborhood won it. His nickname was No Teeth. He was so many grades behind he eventually got kicked out of school.
The reason I mentioned this, I do not doubt for a second that grand prize of drawing might’ve been a show car replica. I can’t verify that part, but to me it seems highly likely. I can verify the No Teeth part of this, but not replica. Hopefully this info helps in your research.
Very interesting story i enjoyed reading this
@@paperjoker9391 thanks!!
That's awesome man! Kyle Petty's Mello Yello car is one of my all time favorite racecars!
So nostalgic just at the site of it. Being a kid in the 90s is hard to explain unless your a 90s kid.
No matter the pedigree, your car is cool. Keep driving it and perfecting it. Subscribed/
Thanks!
When I was 9, Days of Thunder came out after having bin hooked on NASCAR since watching my first race in 89'. Thank god we got to look at at least one of those georgous schemes for a while on a full time CUP team car. CONGRATS on owning 2 of these iconic CUP Pontiacs. Now if only you could find an STP and MGD Grand Prix 😀😀
Absolutely my favorite cars ever
I think of days of Thunder. Always loved that car
Interesting. Didn’t realize it idled so high.
Yep, most idle between 1200 and 1600.
I just want to say THANK YOU for making these videos! Absolutely love them, couldn’t subscribe fast enough 😂.
Glad you are enjoying them and thanks for the support!
Nice.. One of the best paint schemes ever.. An from the best nascar movie.... Days Of Thunder
Huge Kyle fan and of the Mellow Yellow car
Why'd you steal his Mello Yellow sponorship then!? LOL! Nice username.
This is the way they should sound. The others sound weird to me. Like to hear it going at speed around that track.
You are welcome.
Love the Mello Yellow car. Just dropping the green at DOVER as I make my comment. Go CHASE ELLIOTT! =)
Love it man sounds good yes sir
That's a damn pickup motor
Days of thunder
Close
Pretty cool
The Idle reminds me of the drums from "hot for teacher"
Don't care at all about the movie but nice so see the infos/history of this car.
Needs a set of boom tube's exhaust.
Hey would you mind if i use the cold start part for my channel. i will credit you for it
Sure, as long as it's not used in a negative way.
@@grassrootsnascarracing5431 thank you
Days of thunder tom cruice movie car
Lovely ride just needs some FOCALs 🙃
is that a legit motor or a crate motor? sounds good
It's a lightly modified crate motor.
are you in houston texas?
@@nickhoffman5524 That area, yes.

BACK THEN boom tubes was just starting to be a thing and only at super spwy and sterling marlin and on iroc cars
BUTTTT AWSOME neway
Sounds like Harley davidson
The real KP Mello Yello car had Kendall Motor Oil. Nothing with Mobil 1.
Do your homework man. 1991 had Mobil 1. Kendall didn't come on till 1993.
Very cool car, but that motor doesn’t sound like a race engine. I’d still love to take a few laps in it though!,
Obviously a cool car, but that sounds like a very mild engine. Sounds like it could be a small block with 400 hp, or less.
It is a pretty mild engine. Small block crate.
I'd daily this.
thats cole trickle's car
Close. His was a Chevy Lumina and was number 51.
Like
Think remember green cage
Fuck, Hell Yeahhh 😎😎😍😍
Are u in carolina
Nope. Texas.
@grassrootsnascarracing5431 10 4 just found you I subbed. Nc born and raised here thanks to my father I grew up going to hickory and Charlotte and I've always been thankful to grow up around racing got to. Meet Kenny Schreider and walk thru his shop were they were building cars at the time this would be circa 1997 ish I was 6 years old never forgot it. Love the video
First
Right on man.
This car reminds me of Days Of Thunder more than it reminds me of Kyle Petty lol
Sound like music
Looked better on the Chevrolet Lumina.
Ummm....no.
@@grassrootsnascarracing5431 agree to disagree then.
Your right not a race engine
Why don't you run it on 110 or 100LL AVGAS. The airports who have 100LL will sell it to you
I use C12
Fcc
Knows which stickers go where but doesn’t know SHIT about engines lmfao. Talked on and on about stickers but then when the hood is popped all he’s got is “the engine… yea… it’s a good engine..” lmfao 🤣
Which btw sounds like it’s probably a 350 with a $80 camshaft in it sounds like it might be able to move the car around the yard a little
If you watch my earlier videos, I explain that I'm no pro mechanic. I was a rotary guy when I was younger so these V8s are pretty new to me. I have learned a bit more though since I made this video.
Oh it gets up and moves pretty well. Had a blast at North Wilkesboro!

I visited that track for the first time last year right before it re opened. I always watched the abandoned videos of it
