You should come back in the summer when Castle Lake when it and the other two neighbor lakes are wonderful for swimming. There's so much to see in the area and lots of terrific people.
The trail above the lake goes to Heart Lake but it was covered with deep snow. The summer would be awesome..hike the trail and then jump in for a swim! 30 years in that area must have been wonderful. There is so much to see and explore without the heat and population of further south.
Beautiful! I've been to Castle Lake over 100 times and you showcased it's beauty in one video! Thanks for climbing up the ridge, Dave! Now I know what it looks like from up there!
@@oneadVANtureatatime We would try to go up to the lake every week, even in winter, although that meant quite a hike. In winter the lake will freeze over to the point that you can walk way out onto the ice. I'm a chicken though and would only go out a little ways.

That was an awesome day! I love those higher elevation lakes. After seeing the camping places uptop it motivates us to do a backpacking trip this summer.
A good town to visit in this area is Weaverville. It is in the middle of the Trinity alps. The town is compleatly preserved with buildings from the 1850s on. My Grandmother's Grandfather had the FW Blake building built in 1856 for his bank. Next door my Grandfather's Father Mr. Gray was the main teller for the Trinity bank from 1900 to 1927. In 1919 Mr. Gray was locked in his own safe by an armed robber. Who fled on horseback. He was later apprehended. If you want to go back in time to the Gold rush, go to Weaverville.
We have been through Weaverville many times! Now I wish I would have taken the time to stop and check out the history. A man from Weaverville taught my brother and myself how to read the land and find gold. We ended up doing quite well with our new hobby thanks to him. My wife and I have done many backpack trips in the Trinity Alps and will never forget its beauty and remote feeling.Thank you for sharing some of the history with your family. Thank you so much for the kind words! Reading comments like yours helps keep us motivated to make more. We have to admit the beautiful scenery makes our task pretty darn easy and enjoyable. 😎
I miss seeing Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen! I lived in that area for several years. I have camped at McCloud reservoir, there were so many raptors teaching their young to fish! It was incredible! I have climbed Mt. Lassen! But, there are so many areas that I have never gotten around to exploring. That seems to happen too often when you live somewhere. Work, kids, school...maybe a week or two of camping a year, day trips... there is just so much to see over there! You would love Burney Falls and Lassen National Park and the Subway Caves... on and on. But I couldn't take the summer heat anymore and moved back to the coast, where it's goregeous too. 😊
I enjoyed this episode very much. Mt Shasta is a beautiful area. If you have time, you can visit Mossbrae falls, 30mn away from Castle Lake. BTW, at the end of the video, you forgot your camera on tripod when the van is leaving :D
Mossbrae Fall is awesome! We wanted to show that but it's technical on private lands with a potentially dangerous portion of the trail along the railroad tracks. That said, we have been there and loved it! Lol! I don't know where or why we keep losing camera gear. 😜
Thank you! I would have loved to make it all the way to Heart Lake. This place stays cool even in the heat of the summer. If that's not enough then jumping in the lake is quite refreshing. 😎
We were there a few years ago 1st week of April. Lake was still frozen over but road to the lake was open. We boondocks way down below there right off the Castle Lake Road with an awesome view of Mt Shasta.
At time stamp 5:30 where you're driving to Castle Lake, there is a light phenomenon in the clouds. Likely an ice crystal rainbow. Very nice. Great footage. Too bad Dave couldn't get to the top of the mountain but nice he still got some great drone footage.Carrie, I love your solo advantures in your kayak. The underwater footage was a nice add to your video.

Hi Ed. We love that entire area around Medicine Lake as well. So many cool things to do and a vast range of scenery. Unfortunately, when we went there the snow was to deep for us to push through.
@@oneadVANtureatatime ....were you aware of a location about 3 miles east of McCloud known as Wyntoon? It is the "hidden" north estate of the Hearst Family...with the entrance (by special permission by escort only) directly across from the intersection of Hwy 89 and Pilgrim Creek Rd. It's a non-descript, locked and unattended gate, accessed only by family and staff. The acreage is enormous, and the main estate is a good 3-4 miles from the entrance. I had the pleasure of doing a few contract jobs there, and it's just another world with the tallest trees you'll ever see, Bavarian architecture buildings, and right on the McCloud River. In winter some of the heaviest snowfall in the West. Not open to the public.
That sounds awesome! We lived in Redding, Ca for nearly 20 years and have never heard of that private land. That must have been a special treat. We love the McCloud River and the waterfalls! Truly an underrated gem for the state.
I really enjoy your videos. I appreciate how you show the scenery. I just have one simple question...how do you find the dispersed campsites???? Please, do a video on the best way to find a boondocking campsite.😲
ruclips.net/video/XZyKIyWeMZ0/видео.html We made this video on how we find our boondocking spots awhile back. I hope this helps, if you have any questions we hope you will ask. 😎
Thanks for the video. I am going up to Lake Siskiyou at the end of the month. I have heard of the boondocking north of the lake. Is that where you were?
Another wonderful adventure! We visited the Mount Shasta area on two occasions in our travel past and are looking returning with the van in the future. Thanks for sharing your advantures!
Mount Shasta School I can see it from my recliner I especially like it when it gets the Halo clouds have you ever camped on Iron Gate Reservoir it's not as scenic as Castle Lake but you can camp right on the lake for free 14 days
Amazingly beautiful footage as always!! Do you guys use any apps to find these spots? That water is so beautifully clear! That place is just so beautiful - it makes me long for full-time even more. ;-)
ruclips.net/video/XZyKIyWeMZ0/видео.html If you have time check out this video we made a while back on how we find our boondocking locations! I do have to admit, these locations in Northern California are close to our former home town and we have explored some of these areas before.😎
Beautiful area. If you have the chance, do hwy 97 North from Weed, CA. In all my years of trucking, it is the coolest trip. Hope to do MT Shasta area when the borders between U.S. and Canada open up again, only this time in my house on wheels so I can stop and see the beauty. Travel safe, and looking forward to more vids.
Yes, we love highway 97. We have kayaked and camped at Juanita Lake years back and had a great time. Definitely off the beaten path and the kind of places we like.
Have you guys heard of the axle being a problem with the Pro Master‘s? My mechanic had mentioned this while my Pro Master is in the shop for a new axle. Also was letting you know About the factory recall on the shifter cable my shop was telling me it only takes 30 minutes to install a bushing that alleviates the throttle cable being replaced. Also do not forget about those screws that hold your breather cap on you should try to find stainless steel ones or grease or lubricate them to keep the water from crowding them and making them a pain in the butt to get out if they snap because the moisture does settle on the screws which is a real issue
What we're the symptom of your axel? This is the first axel problem I have heard of. We are hoping to get the warranty work done soon. So far every time we check they don't have the part yet. It's good to know it's a quick fix, thank you. I am definitely greasing up those screws..I may need to replace them already come to think about it. Thank you for the reminder. We just found the coolant leak that has been with us for the last 2 years. It was one of those coolant lines that comes out of the bottom of the radiator and goes into the top of the transition. It was a quick fix at the dealership. We have heard of another person with this same leak.
one adVANture at a time One symptom is a Shaking at speeds of around 40 to 50 miles an hour maybe even 60 miles an hour, kind of makes you feel like your tire is out of balance. I told you several months ago that I would let you know about the shifter cable I was not told or notified about the shifter cable I just went into the dealership to resolve this issue with the axle and they said this bushing would resolve the shifter cable issue, kind of makes me wonder if they are short changing me.I am also glad to know that I was your first super chat donator it will mean a lot when you hit 1 million subscribers LOL
one adVANture at a time about the axle I noticed the shaking in my tire after getting tires installed on a road trip after leaving the dealership with the new tires I noticed a slight shaking and I thought no big deal he left off a balancer or did not balance the tires and that was around 6 to7 months ago ,it got really bad within the past month so I went in to have the tires balanced and it did not Resolve the issue
one adVANture at a time I didn’t think to mention but I’ve had a coolant drop in my radiator Reservoir for several months now I’ve just added new coolant that I got from the dealership, I asked a mechanic at Chrysler and he said it’s probably just evaporating so I have not worried about it being that I’ve never noticed A temperature change for running hot while in operation according to the gauge
Yeah, our leak was tiny at first and did evaporate. Then one day I noticed a drop of coolant on the bottom of the coolant hose. The machine fitting that attaches the rubber part of the hose to the metal tubing was the problem. I love passing info along about our Promasters. Thank you for sharing about yours.
Thank you once again for feeding my much starved need for nature! Loved your camera work close to the stream and in it. The sound was lovely. Enjoy your travels.
Thank you for the kind words, Nancy! Carrie just got some great underwater video at a tidal pool! Can't wait to share. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. We appreciate you.😀
Hi Ed! We love that slower ambient sound as well. Carrie gets her music from the RUclips Library. You may have to be a creator to view it, not completely sure. Yes, she can start posting the music in the video description. 😎
Thank you! We do have PayPal set up on RUclips but it's hidden under the tiny arrow beneath and to the right of the video. Not sure why RUclips makes that arrow so small. Maybe we will pin the link in a comment for future videos. We can always use gas money. 😀
The mountain you were hiking up to is called, "Castle Peak", not to be confused with the Castle Crags which are several miles away. You can have an awesome panoranic view from there or Heart Lake or Little CAstle Lake over to the north & west sides of CAstle Crags.
Hi Denisse. There are a few free camping locations up W A Barr Road. I will give you the coordinates of the place we stayed. You may see places to stay before you get to this one so if you see one take it as this area can fill up fast. This is our old stomping ground! We hope you will enjoy.
We found you guys a couple of months ago; and my wife and I have spent quite a few nights binge watching your videos. You guys are great cinematographers and story tellers, we like your presentation style. Especially as I watched this video I will say a yellow flag goes up as it does many times when I watch Carrie out on her own. I don't know what you guys carry for emergency survival stuff, I don't want to be a "Debbie Downer" and maybe you've talked about this in other videos we haven't seen yet. But in this video both you guys were pretty far afield. I don’t know if you carry bear spray, but it’s a great deterrent for all 4 and 2 legged predators. I wish you guys, especially Carrie, would carry a personal locator beacon so if you get into trouble you would be able to get help.
Thank you, Bill! We usually do carry bear spray and appreciate the nudge to be prepared. I also carried a handheld radio on this hike. I like the idea of a locator device. We have been looking but have not settled on one yet.
Hey guys i don't like being that person that says this..you never Hike alone especially in the Mountains. God forbid what if something extremely bad happens.
Thank you for the concern Stone. One of those satellite locator phones or something is probably a good plan at minimal. We are promoting you as our new safety adviser. 😎 As always we appreciate your safety tips and advice.keep em coming.

I really enjoy your videos. I appreciate how you show the scenery. I just have one simple question...how do you find the dispersed campsites???? Please, do a video on the best way to find a boondocking campsite.😲
ruclips.net/video/XZyKIyWeMZ0/видео.html
We made this video on how we find our boondocking spots awhile back. I hope this helps, if you have any questions we hope you will ask. 😎
@@oneadVANtureatatime I'll take a look at the video. Thanks. 😎✌
Thanks for the video. I am going up to Lake Siskiyou at the end of the month. I have heard of the boondocking north of the lake. Is that where you were?
Roods is a lucky boy!
He sure is! Right now he is laying on his back with his feet high in the air. 😂
Another wonderful adventure! We visited the Mount Shasta area on two occasions in our travel past and are looking returning with the van in the future. Thanks for sharing your advantures!
Thank you so much. Happy travels to you and hope to meet you sometime. 😀
Mount Shasta School I can see it from my recliner I especially like it when it gets the Halo clouds have you ever camped on Iron Gate Reservoir it's not as scenic as Castle Lake but you can camp right on the lake for free 14 days
I meant to say Mount Shasta is cool not school
Amazingly beautiful footage as always!! Do you guys use any apps to find these spots? That water is so beautifully clear! That place is just so beautiful - it makes me long for full-time even more. ;-)
ruclips.net/video/XZyKIyWeMZ0/видео.html
If you have time check out this video we made a while back on how we find our boondocking locations! I do have to admit, these locations in Northern California are close to our former home town and we have explored some of these areas before.😎
@@oneadVANtureatatime Will do that for sure! If we can find half those spots, I will be happy. ;-)
The “little pond” is Heart Lake.
Looks amazing! I'm camping at Castle Lake starting June 18. What week were you there and how was the weather?
+Lester Valderas we were there the first part of May and it was still a bit chilly. June will be perfect!
@@oneadVANtureatatime thanks for the tip! :)
Just thought....calendars!
I love calendars.... i will have to look into this!
I hope you guys have Bear spray, love the videos.
We do! Thank you, Ron. 😎
We appreciate you.😀
Could you guys post the background musical scores you're using in your vids please? I'm a big ambient music fan.
Hi Ed! We love that slower ambient sound as well. Carrie gets her music from the RUclips Library. You may have to be a creator to view it, not completely sure. Yes, she can start posting the music in the video description. 😎
Two Adventure at a time. Another great video. I think you should have a PayPal account so if people want to donate to your cause.
Thank you! We do have PayPal set up on RUclips but it's hidden under the tiny arrow beneath and to the right of the video. Not sure why RUclips makes that arrow so small. Maybe we will pin the link in a comment for future videos. We can always use gas money. 😀
@@oneadVANtureatatime Thanks i will look for it.
The mountain you were hiking up to is called, "Castle Peak", not to be confused with the Castle Crags which are several miles away. You can have an awesome panoranic view from there or Heart Lake or Little CAstle Lake over to the north & west sides of CAstle Crags.
I would love to visit !! But don’t know where we could spend the night ?

Beautiful photography and editing! From Australia! Do you make your own postcards? If not why? I believe you could make some money. Just a thought.
That's a great idea! Where would I sell them?
Ohhh my goodness just what everyone else has said. I'm afraid Chrome has to take a back seat for this one.
Too funny about Chrome taking a back seat. I had to read your comment to Carrie. 😎
@@oneadVANtureatatime cool! Thank you!
Haha Watch Rusty West videos! So good and many from California even Trinity/Shasta. I'm getting ready to explore that exact area. In the next 2 weeks. I love Gregory Creek camping on Shore of Shasta.
#LiveYourPassion Luv the interesting places you travel !! It’s so refreshing !! Lots go on my list to see. ❤️ 🌞🚐🇺🇸 I love to kayak too !!
🐾 🐾 Yeah Roodle !
#FindYourFreedom
Ok so we made a mistake and left Carrie's kayak out overnight. Sure enough, someone took it. 😓 We are a couple of videos ahead so you may still see it in the next 2 weekend videos.
+one adVANture at a time ....unless you’ve already seen my last voyage video on patron. Bye little green trooper!!!! You are already missed!! -carrie
Hey all. Watch Rusty West. You'll not go w/o a transponder again. All the folks missing from that area is cause to wonder. Plus that area to the coast is Emerald Triangle the largest marijuana farms and cartels. I would carry weapons folks.
THe lake is 120' deep. Indians believe it's the abode of "Ku-Ku-Pa-RIck"
