In other words do you think you can get a more pristine quality of Flanger sound by inserting the pedal directly into the console or is it the same if you connect the Flanger into a bass amp and just put a mic in front of the amp ???
I did this to show how you can add external effects to the board. If I were to record a guitar or bass with a flanger, I would definitely have it going into the amp not on the board. This was just to show how external effects are connected to the board. I use a rack mounted reverb system when I do final mixes which I run this way into the board. I used the flanger because it is distinctive and would be heard on the RUclips video.
Thanks again for all you share/shared! I am hoping you may know an answer to this question before I drive myself crazy trying to figure this out: I have a vocal chain with a preamp I like the sound of. Do you know how to completely bypass the Tascam onboard preamps? I have a feeling going full ccw on the trim will still engage the tascam preamp at a line level. I am wondering if input H is preampless (I'll check the manual) but I'm curious how to get the most of the unit. Msny thanks!
Thanks. It seems to be a big topic in Tascam forums. People have asked the same as I and the answer is either "plug into the line input" or people go off on how great they are or how much they know about gear and other irrelevant things. I'm wondering if input "H" not set to "guitar" is a line in bypassing preamp. I haven't had time to try it or read my manual. My thought is like what you mentioned and if the internal pres are as transparent as everyone says, it shouldn't matter. I just want to make sure I can get the best out of what I have. Thanks again for taking the time to answer.
Ok, i understand panning left and right for stereo, but what if you're using an armed stereo track? You can't pan the signal to the left and right when you do this, can you?
If you are using a stereo track with two inputs, the system will automatically split the two inputs into left and right on the track. The only time you need to worry about it is using the stereo bus.
Hi Mike, I've been going crazy this evening trying to get my external effects added to a bounce track so that i can move forward with this song. I got this unit only 4 days ago so consider me completely new to this, my previous multitracks were boss and zoom 8 tracks, and fx were simple as it comes and could be added in real time at any stage. I've already recorded dry tracks and want both reverb from the internal effects and delay from and externally connected source via the send port. I have the following setup: Effects send 2 -> into delay unit -> into input A/B. I have both sends and both masters way up on the tracks i need this on, (post in all cases) and can hear it exactly as i want it to be in multitrack mode. However as soon as i got to bounce mode i can hear reverb (internal) but no delay (external). Why is this? I found that the only way to hear the external effects at all is to route via the stereo bus. Is there any way I can route an already-recorded track via the fx loop and record the resulting signal into a bounce track? Appreciate any help, ive been sat with this getting increasingly frustrated for about 5 hours now. If I'd have known it was this awkward I would have just added delay to the amp signal when recording in the first place... Recording the tracks was easy and now I'm completely stuck on what i assumed would be a quick and easy process of just adding effects!
I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. Reading what you wrote here, my first question is where do you have input A & B assigned? Are they going to a track or to the stereo bus? If they are going to the bus, did you select the tracks that are using the effect? I might have to look into this again since I didn't truly test to see if the stereo bus was getting passed into a bounce.
@@MikeFoerster gosh thanks for such a fast response! I tried both the stereo bus as well as to an input track, but I'm sure I have overlooked something simple somewhere 😉 I am not in front of the unit right now but let me know if you need any further info from my end
@@MikeFoerster quick update- this evening I managed to get both fx to the bounce track but it was really counter intuitive and I still think I must be doing it wrong somehow. There were two changes from my previous attempt- first was to set the send 2 to pre. Second was to put the faders of the tracks I wanted to bounce to infinity (ie fully down). It worked like I said, the catch being that I couldn't hear playback at all during the bounce and had to time my manual manipulation of the external unit by watching the timer rather than listening which obviously isn't ideal 😉 If there's a better (easier!) way I'd love to know, I can see this being something I'll need to do a lot in future. Thanks once again for your time!
I figured it out! So if you want to send an input into a bounce, when you are selecting your tracks, also select the input track. I'm making a video on this right now, but it won't be out until next Monday. It took me a bit but I got it to go!
Thanks for this, it's a useful video. But why did you choose to record it while there are people singing in the room next door? It's really distracting!
I just bought a walrus audio pedal, but it only has one in and one out input. Looks like you're pedal has 3 or 4? I have a cable that has 1 Jack on one end and 2 on the other end. Can I use that the same way you have done here? I don't want to take any chances and mess something up. I'm still learning how to use my tascam.

Hey Mike, thanks for the info and clearly explaining how to route everything. I don't remember it being this difficult years ago?? 😂 I was wondering if there is any way to use external effects, such as my Behringer FX2000 3D, like I would (personally) choose to do with a guitar multi-effects pedal, IE guitar into pedal, 2 leads from pedal straight to inputs on the Tascam? I want to use the Behringer for vocals and I prefer to record directly to a stereo track with the effect, reverb and delay, printed on the track as I record - I don't want to mess with it post- recording? So tracks 1 and 2 are going into the pedal, and coming out of the pedal into send effects 1? Run the guitar straight into input H? Then assign the tracks? Is this right?
I'll try to clarify, I have the guitar in Input H and I'm using Effect Send 1 to send the signal to the pedal, the pedal's output are going into tracks 1 and 2 to give me a stereo effect. I'll try to remake this video to see if I can clarify it a bit better.
