Hi Allen, I'm looking for a Tascam DP-24 (original model, not the sd models) tutorial, can you send me a link or is the DP-24, or 32 models the same as the sd models in terms of tutorial? Thanks
It took me 3 1/2 hours to find out nothing about an acoustic electric or an electric into any sort of effects pedal unit/to make sure you didn’t use the guitar side but instead had to use the line side. and going onto your site again it took just two minutes and 16 seconds to figure out right from jump Street that it was simple as getting it off the guitar side and putting it on the line side on the switch. You’re a bloody genius my friend. I do not understand why anybody else could not tell me that right off the bat. I have a migraine so bad from these idiots that don’t say anything but they act like they’re being thorough. You sir are absolutely thorough with every aspect of the DP 24 or 32. I happen to have a 32. You just saved my brain from exploding in my eyes blowing straight out of its socket. Thank you sir and God bless you and yes., I subscribed a long time ago to your channel because you just have that smarts about you and I can see it in your face and the way you explain things I knew you had it going .. My migraine and my eyes are falling out of it. Socket were the things that stopped me from remembering go to the best power coat music. Thank you my friend and God bless you.

Finally i have found a person that explains clearly and step by step how to use a multitrack recorder, most of the videos that i have seen previously are done by people that seems in a big hurry, so it makes hard to understand how works a certain device. Thank you so much, now i am more interested about the DP 24 ( i already have the DP 008EX ) ,and,in my opinion, the quality worth for the price. Greetings from Italy, Patrick
I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and understanding of piece of equipment. My wife purchased the dp 32 SD, for me as a gift, and it is soooooo complicated. I can't stay awake through a whole Phil Tippon video, because he is so thorough with his explanations.
I am not ashamed to say that I get the most out of a simple, comfortably paced presentation like this. Thank you. I have a pretty good idea of things that can be done with the DP-24 and eventually I get there, but a clear step by step description is wonderful. I'm looking forward to watching the other videos!
If only my school teachers had been as patient and thorough as you, good sir. I'd have had a much better start in life! But seriously, that was an excellent video. It taught me a lot. Many thanks from the UK :)

Want to try something different when it comes to recording your guitar tracks? Look no further. The Tascam DP-24 has a plug and play feature set that is worth checking out. Need to record some good hot guitar tracks and don’t have room for extra gear in your studio? This unit’s got you covered. Get it done quickly and cleanly with all the basic tools you need. I wanted to share this information with anyone who wants to explore the cool guitar platform on this unit. Enjoy!
Nice video, I purchased one about 1.5 years ago and haven't used it yet. Thank God for good videos like yours as I am more of a button pusher and rarely read instructions.
Terrific video! Most people didn't demo each guitar effect actually using a guitar, but yours does this perfectly! Also, until now, it was a guessing game for me to apply guitar effects. Thanks and keep the videos coming! Oh,and the pace is perfect. I constantly have to rewind other people's videos to see stuff I missed. Not yours, though.
I really appreciate the help. I am an older guy, vocals are my thing. I've just purchased one of these units and I am really having a hard time grasping all the concepts. I got a guitar to work (thanks to you) but I am having a hard time getting a mic to work. I may have bitten off more than I could chew with this newer technology. Many thanks for your painstaking and gentle tuition video. You have a really accessible teaching style. I was wondering if it is possible to record a stereo guitar as follows: guitar into effects unit - effects unit has 2 outputs (i.e. stereo) - two phono jacks are connected to the Tascam and the corresponding tracks are panned in the Tascam to provide a stereo result, e.g. ping-pong delay, really wide reverb, etc. From what you've described a guitar has to use input H set to guitar, unless it has a preamp or effects. So would 2 inputs on the Tascam set to line work in this manner? Many thanks.
I think I will need to use my own external FX starting with my Fender Mustang AMP (Set to 1957 Fender) and into a very old Zoom custom delay FX then record the track and either use the on board Reverb or buy a separate Reverb unit. I record befrore I put on a powerful reverb. Thanks for the tutorials and Now I need to unbox the unit and plug it in.

I am so glad for your teaching! I got so frustrated reading the manual and trying to do a guitar track, I almost took it back! I think I have to get a new SD card though, it shows 11:23 in yellow at the top right of the screen, I never met the previous owner, and will look for the right card to buy. Thanx again for this great video and all your videos! Your one good teacher!
So glad I could help.👍 Regarding SD cards, please keep in mind to use the cards on the Tascam DP-24 Tested Media List(Link: tascam-ca.com/content/downloads/products/837/dp-24_dp-24sd_dp-32_dp-32sd_tested_media_list_020518.pdf). In that way you should be good to go. 😊
No, not directly as this unit cannot function as a usb audio interface. If you connect your 24SD to a usb audio interface, you should be able to then use it with your DAW. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿
This depends on your requirements. I don't know that I would say "better", but from a mobile perspective you have more initial tracks to work with. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿
Very good videos. Makes me want to change my old and tired Zoom R16 with one this :) Can you record the guitar in stereo with this using only one input?
Yes. However if you plug-in from the amp or speaker output into the "H" input, ensure that the switch for that channel is set to "Line". Thanks for watching. 👍🏿
Yes. But, if you use the Guitar Input (Input H) when using a line out from a device, make sure you set the input switch on input H to "Line". Thanks for watching. 👍🏿
This is a great video, but when you show to record track one on guitar your faders are all in the off position. It took me hours to figure out to leave them up and set where I like them. That part screws you up when they follow you. Other than that It helped me a lot!
Powercoat, your explanations are great and I find them more up to the point and more clear than others. Just one question: can one record a guitar from the aux out of the amplifier plugged right into the Tascam? I just want to use the original amplifier sound and bypass the Tascam presets and effects, however good they may be.
The answer to your question is "Yes". In that case you should bypass the guitar input and treat the signal like a regular line input. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿
hi. just wondering why should you set it to line if you're running pedals? I've always used the guitar setting because when I switch to line it seems like the volume is the same as if it goes direct into the Tascam.
The line setting is suggested by Tascam in that instance. This is usually suggested to ensure that the two units are capable of directly interfacing with each other at +4. Again, I can only speculate based on the design but this would seem to be logical and make sense. Thanks for watching and sharing. 👍🏿
If I’m connecting an amp head (ie the peavey 6505) will I need a direct box? And if I’m using the head will I need to plug the cable from the effects send instead of the speaker outputs?
HI, I'm just trying to cut an unwanted noise at the beginning off my song, and went to track edit, used the cut option and then the silence and erase option with no success, any help would be appreciated!!!
In order for that function to work, you need to be sure to set the in and out points for the section of the recording you want to silence or cut using the “Mark Set” in the Locate section. That should do it. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿
Hey Brother, if I deleted everything from an old SD card with more storage capacity, would you recommend putting it into the DP 24sd then after to store tracks. I have a smaller storage space on my current SD. But I wanted to take a one from an old phone and start saving tracks to it.
Tascam has a recommended SD media brand and spec list that I strongly recommend. If you comply with it, you should be fine in doing what you're asking. Check it out the list first if you have not already: tascam.com/downloads/media_list/TASCAM/dp-24_dp-24sd_dp-32_dp-32sd_tested_media_list_.pdf
I have recently started using the 24sd and it is superb. I finished a track and mastered it but couldn't transfer it to my Imac that has Sierra 10.12.6, the manual says I need Yosemite 10.10.....is there an application I can get to solve this problem? I don't want to buy a separate computer.
That’s a good question. The manual is fairly clear on the Mac requirements (Mac OS X or later). I did talk to a Mac person some time ago who said they just remove the SD card from the DP and put it into their Mac and were able to copy files that way. This is not recommended, but he said it worked for him. I didn’t know his hardware or OS version though. I don’t use Macs so maybe someone else on the channel can chime in who’s had the same issue? I’m sorry I could not be more helpful on this one.
@@PowercoatMusic Thanx for getting back so soon, and yes someone else said the same thing to me, but I'm afraid of screwing up the card or my computer. Was thinking of just hitting the pawn shops for a used Hp with windows 8.1 and use it just for sharing my music. But thanx anyway.
Great explanation! I bought yesterday a DP24 and I'm eager to understand how it works. I just don't understand one thing: am I not allowed to put my guitar in any input but H? What if I need to connect my amplifier via its own DI? Can I use input A in that case?
The answer to your question is “Yes”. Regarding guitars, the “H input” is connected to the “LINE-GUITAR” switch on the back of the unit. This is for guitars that are non-active or if you are not using a pre-amp. In that case, you would switch “LINE-GUITAR” switch on the back of the unit to “GUITAR” and you can then use amp modeling and other guitar effects. *Otherwise, if you’re using a guitar that’s active or with a pre-amp like in your case, you can use any input. Just make sure that the “LINE-GUITAR” switch on the back of the unit is set to “LINE”. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿
I started following you recently. I've watched every video on this Tascam, but no one explains the difference between the 'Source' A thru H buttons versus the track 'Select' button. Here's the million dollar question: Why can I select my Panning & Pre-post f/x Send and Master levels at both the Source AND Select button? Which takes precedent over the other? Source or Select?
The Source button pertains to the unit’s inputs (A-H). The Select button is track oriented (1-24). It all depends on what function you are using and that determines if you can use both, or one or the other. It’s not a matter of precedence. A great example of this is the use of effects in the unit, which is explained in the videos. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and sharing. 👍
@@PowercoatMusic . Ok. Let's say I'm running stereo hard left and hard right into A (left) and B(right) onto tracks 1 and 2. Naturally I would hit the Select button on 1 and pan it hard left. The select on 2 and pan it hard right. BUT on the 'SOURCE BUTTONS' A, and B, WHERE DO I SET THE PAN? HARD LEFT, HARD RIGHT, too? IN THE CENTER? WHERE? Thank you!
@@adozensparrows I’m sorry but your question does not make sense based on how the DP-24 is designed. The Source buttons ONLY determine input assignments. Tracks control the Pan knobs. You use the Select button to choose which track you want to work with, then you can use the Pan to control left or right audio placement. The Source button is exactly that, which is the Input(A-H) of a sound or effect for a bus on the DP-24. Basically, this is the input you have assigned/routed to a track. The selected track controls the Pan of whatever input Source you have assigned to it, and you choose the Tracks using the Select buttons. So if you have Input/Source A assigned to Track 1, you can Pan that left (if you wish), and Input/Source B assigned to Track 2 you can Pan right. I hope this information helps.
@@PowercoatMusic . I just got your answer now and it exactly answers my question! Thank you so much! The Source button is kind of like the Master Control, and the Select button determines what those parameters will do in mix. I get it. 👍
Hi, I enjoy your content but after 20 years of Yamaha to return to Tascam is a big leap. But, what I do need to know is where is Reverb for guitar effects?
You can always add the reverb to the guitar track afterwards using the other built-in effects. Also, you can add your own external guitar effects. For details check out my presentation "Tascam DP24/DP32 Digital Portastudio: Using External Effects", on this channel. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿
very helpful videos!, I got a question: i'm using track 1,2 and 3 for my guitars, track 4 for my drums, but when i try to use track 5 for an extra guitar arrangement, the device won't allow me to record, I also tried Track 6 and 7 unsuccessfully, I'm doing something wrong?
If you have not already, you then must ensure that the input sources you are using are all assigned to the tracks you want to record on. Afterwards, you must have at least one track in recording standby before you start recording by pressing that button. Thanks for watching and sharing. 👍🏿

Help please, can I plug a guitar cord into the back. I don't understand it.
