It was the first full spec (including all accecories) Twingo in Belgium and that problebly remained. Phase 2 (face lift) had the initial Paris version, which was alsof loaded with options. Love to own one again.

I had a '02 Twingo Initiale Paris with all the works on it, including the 2nd generation "easy" gearbox. It was a fun little car, though it suffered too many slightly too annoying electrical issues related to the transmission. It was a wonderful little car though, easy to park, cheap to run, hilariously spacious boot when you needed it (yes you can fit an Ikea Klippan couch in the boot of a Twingo).
Best part about the robotic-manual gearbox is that it does the whole rev matching on downshifts. So if you pull up hard at a traffic light it makes all the little boy racers in their Polo's and Civics look at you very confused as a Twingo furiously works its way down through 4 gears to stop.
Sadly after over 19 years and almost 300.000km it burned valves in 3 cylinders and it just wasn't worth fixing it all up again. I loved that little car. And anyone who claimed it was not a manly car, quickly shut up after being told I didn't need to compensate for other things by driving a "manly" car.

I bought a 2007 mk1 twingo a year ago specifically because its impossible to take serious as a car, its just too quirky. But damn is it impressive! With a large foldaway top and 16v engine its a blast to drive on country roads in the summertime. Its narrow tires make it huge fun to throw it around corners and feel it doing these little four wheel drifts, while the tiny 1.2 75hp engine has a happy eagerness to it that just makes driving fun at all speeds. I took it offroading multiple times because why not, and drove it like a maniac on muddy, steep tracks it shouldn't possibly be able to traverse but it just kept going and going no problem. The space inside is just insane for such a small car, and the large windows provide excellent visibility in all directions. But the best part is that, despite its official top speed of 168 km/h, I took it up to 183 km/h on the German autobahn, with a boot fully loaded with heavy stuff.
A car is good when it put a smile on the drivers face, and this one does it every single time. Its just pure distilled fun, and nothing else.

At first when I was searching for my first car, my dad recomended me twingo 1, but when I saw how it looks like, I disliked it, but now that design is growing on me, and by the way, my first and current car is megane 1 hatchback lift is someone's wondering.

    you should be hooning around.
These have great intake sound when you open the air filter. MAD as these don't have a mass airflow sensor so no dampening. Great!
Also the rear muffler is quite restrictive but without one it gets loud but in a fun way.
Also don't fit giant wheels. These engines have little power and you'll feel any gram of added rotational mass that needs to be accelerated.
Coil overs are good though. Cheap fun.

The mark one twingo is unironically one of my favourite cars, one of my dream cars and one of the cars that just makes me the happiest to be around and be in. It's just amazingly cute, insanely practical and I have a very deep attachment to that car cause my granny used to have one - and after she did my mom kept the car for about ten years.

It was my first car, I drove until it broke apart under my very cheeks, and I would do it all over again any day.

I remember 15 years ago these and also the ford KA's used to be extremely cheap. You could get them for as little as 60€. These cars were popular among teens as they used to drive them drunk and without a license. These cars were nicknamed as stunt man cars as drunk teens used to roll them over trying to recreate Tokyo drift on a gravel road.

Makes me miss mine a bit. I have two motorcycles and no need for a car, but it was hella fun to redline it all day everyday and still not go stupendously fast. When i bought my bike, it just sat there for weeks on end, becoming a sad little car.
It ended up being the roadtrip car for a group of americans who discovered it's cheaper to buy a Twingo here, and sell it at the end of their trip, than to rent a car.

I'm an American who moved to Germany in 2019. We don't have these in the states. I never knew they existed, and yet even I want one or maybe two in my life. I feel like the Twingo is to cars what a scooter is to motorcycles. It's not for serious enthusiasts. It's for people who enjoy things and don't take things to seriously.

I drove 17 different cars in my life and there is noothing you can compare TWINGO with. It is not the best, or the fastest, or whatever comes to anyones mind but it is cheap, simple and fun to drive. It does just what it was built to do, with smile on the face. And here we are almost 40 years later still talking about it.
I miss days when you could by a new car like this. Today with all SUV mania and all the electronics that takes all fun of driveing the car. With this thing you could go to any local garage to fix it. Not the case with my VOLVO, great car but too complicated.
And it is a car that you love it or you hate it. I am the one who will forever love it.
Would love to see simple electrict version of it, without all unnecessary bulshit built in it.

Pretty much the only thing holding me back from making a silly Turbo Twingo is the fact that they're not available in my country and the cost to ship one over would have every European collectively rolling their eyes at me. It sure would be fun though, it wouldn't take much power to make them really fun

  • @looped7979

The 16v version pushed hard in second gear on some tight roads is really fun... But it lacks power and grip. Bought a Peugeot 206 S16 and it's not even comparable, the S16 pulls with a glorious 2L rumble and kicks out the backend on corner exits.
Tough i had a great time "street racing" the twingo, if it had more power and grip it could be so amazing ! 185/55/R14 + 100hp or a K4M swap

When I was a child for some reason I disliked the twingos... probably because of its humanoid face, it was frightening me. Growing up, a friend of mine had one and it was the first time I was able to escape the suburbia hellscape to go to the shop buy alcohol with her lol (I had no driving license). These were my first car rides with someone my age. With time it became reallt a symbol of those "one little French cars". I love the Twingo now because all the constructors do nowadays are dumb SUVs for the rich. I ride a bicycle to work. Small accessible cars would be preferable...
