I have the 2021 Kia Sorento gt line and never thought I'd use the parking feature other than to show people. I was wrong it's already come in handy a few times when parked in tight spaces or when needing access to the boot (people seem to look over confused when it's being used though)
I love the centre console buttons, its faster and safer than looking for something through the touch screen. I also like the look as much, if not better than previous models. A shame it doesn't have a 2.5L diesel engine instead of the 2.2L diesel engine, a little more power would be handy.
I took delivery of mine yesterday, ended up optioning the 20" black Busan wheels and so glad I did. Has completely set off the look of the car. Stoked with it.
I think the buttons in addition to the screen give it a modern yet a retro feel. I love it. However the Santa Fe's cabin gives you a more premium feel when compared with Sorrento's cabin. Overall a very good and informative review.
100k! Congratulations Paul. Well deserved. I’ve got to admit I really like BUTTONS! Looks great to me. Very sharp. I would definitely use the self parking function.
I purchased the 2020 Highlander and it was the first time I had ever even considered buying a Hyundai. It is awesome! It is in the most part a match for the equivalent model Merc or BMW save for maybe needing a slightly stronger engine and slightly better feeling brakes. It is a great driving car for a 7-seater and has every conceivable option to make the drive safer and enjoyable. Did I see in your review of the 2021 model a reason to upgrade...in a word NO.
I agree with Paul, not fussed on what's going on with this one. It kind of just looks like an inflated small/mid suv instead of being a premium platform
Great review Paul. Have ordered the hybrid model some weeks ago, will be delivered by mid-September. It was my pick after comparing with BMW X3, Audi Q5, Mercedes GLC, Mercedes GLB, and... KIA Sorento. Compared to the Sorento, I agree that the KIA's styling is indeed more interesting. However, I found the ride far better in the Hyundai. Apart from this, lease prices here in Belgium were much in favor of the Hyundai as well. Drive train will be 1.6GDI Smartstream combined with battery pack (no plug-in), with a total of 230HP.
I have the Santa Fe as shown. Black exterior same colour interior. I really like it. I was debating between this one and the Sorrento. It was the interior and a couple of the features i preferred. It just edged out the Sorrento, also the 4th Hyundai I’ve owned.
Oh it definitely looks better than the previous version. The one most annoying factor you didn’t mention is that to get the AWD you must take a Diesel engine and the FWD version is Petrol only. I’d want Petrol and AWD so I’d never buy one. I really don’t like when manufacturers do that.
Great video and very well presented. The only aspect you didn’t touch on which makes it better than the sorento is it has updated towing capacity, gone from 2000kg to 2500kg, I would consider the Kia if it had the same due to the 7 year warranty but at present it’s the Hyundai which I will be picking up soon!
The self parking feature is convenient in South Korea where sometimes the parking spots especially at restaurants or the like are so narrow that you can't get out. You can position the car, jump out and use the self parking to finish the jobs. The button to move back and forth the front passenger seat is helpful when the car is used as a limo or VIP car where the front passenger is pushed forward to provide more space...you will see all cars transporting executives with the front passenger seat pushed forward.....
I picked up my Santa Fe Highlander a few weeks ago. Very happy with it so far. Prefer the brushed metal surfaces inside over the piano black in the Sorento. Yes, there are a lot of buttons but you get used to them. This car is jam packed with so many features and it would be annoying to have to access them all through the touch screen. @@karl6203 really, now that I think of it I test drove the premium version of the car which is one spec below mine, the top spec here in the UK comes with a panoramic sunroof. Hey Paul, another great video. There is an option to make Apple Carplay widescreen. Not only on the Santa-fe, but any Hyundai or Kia with the new widescreen infotainment.
Since the infotainment system is basically the same across Hyundai and Kia current products, CarPlay should work full screen. It certainly does on my 2021 Sorento so should do on the tested car as well.
Well done, Paul and team on 100k! Well deserved - I watch all of your videos, esp. being in the market for new wheels (was watching before that though) - even if the type of car being reviewed is not one I am interested (style, model, budget) I watch anyhow just because I never know if I will have a change of mind .. and all your videos are worthy of viewing. Bravo.
Booked Sorento Dec2020, received call from dealership other day saying I have to wait another 6 months. Couldn’t wait any longer so canceled Sorento and hunted down Santa Fe last week, believe I got the last stock in Australia. Waiting for the delivery in couple of days.
The kids have never really bothered with the seat moving buttons, they are generally out of reach when they are restrained, they also dont really touch the heated rear seat button on the door, it surprisingly took some training to get them to leave the blinds alone.
If you go to phone connection settings there is an option to enable split screens vs full screen for car play. The default for some reason is split screen.
I love your videos. I think they are very informative, but I would like to see in addition to your normal reviews, which I think they are great, more of safety information. Not only the number of airbags the car has but also the safety ratings and the results of crashing tests. Thanks 👍👍👍
Awesome review. Congrats on the 100k. Well deserved. The looks is different, think everyone will react differently. I personally kind of like it. That parking system is probably a gimmick, pretty cool though, but probably would barely use it. I personally love the new grand Cherokee l. That thing is a beauty.
An idea where the remote parking comes in handy is it the car is in the garage and you want to do some stuff in there you can just take the car out to the driveway without getting into the car
BMW is using a similar wireless charging method in some models. The charger is placed in the centre armrest cubby and you place the phone horizontally in the holder
My Sorento goes just as well as my previous Volvo XC90 diesel, same size and weight and is more economical, averaging UK 43mpg and easily doing 47 on a longer run in traffic. It has the same engine and transmission as the Santa-Fe so they should be identical in performance and economy. The reason I'd go for the Santa-Fe rather than Sorento is for a greater range of trim colours and for the console switchgear to be further forward where they are more easily seen by the driver. Otherwise I guess it comes down to the dealer and availability. I prefer the front end styling of the Sorento though, but that isn't a deal-breaker for me.
Great review Paul. I asked you this question when you reviewed the Sorento and asking you again now that you have tested the Santa Fe. Where would your money be? The split screen is interesting as my Sorento has the full screen for apple car play. Keen to know your thoughts on your pick. Regards from NZ
buttons look messy, but when owning a car with them, it helps a lot with muscle memory so you don't have to take your eyes off the road. try that with a touch screen...

Can you sometimes include the non diesel engine. Most variants you have on here are diesels and would be nice to do the reviews on 3.5l petrol versions including Sorento.
I drove the Sorrento GT line and Santa Fe Highlander back to back and ended up going the Santa Fe. Not much between them and alot of it is subjective. I like the look of both however I think the Santa Fe appears a bit more premium/classy imo. The seats in the Santa Fe are nicer and seem to 'hug' you a bit more (obviously could vary with different body types). There seemed to be less engine noise from the Sanata Fe in the cabin (nip picking) and I agree with your differences felt in the engine response. You also get 500kg more towing capacity (although they share the same towbar downball limit) with the Santa Fe vs the Sorrento. Congrats on 100k!
Nice review! Would you be testing the off-road capabilities of the Santa Fe AWD someday? I'm in the PNW and I have the 2022 2.5L 4cyl AWD with an 8speed automatic and my wife has the 2022 hybrid limited AWD with the 1.5L turbo and 6speed automatic. I'm waiting to take the 2.5L just a little bit off road someday if I see at least one positive review of its off road capability. For an SUV at just 32k USD, I'm very pleased with the SEL trim level for all the features it offers and the cabin comfort. The Limited hybrid at 42k USD is also definitely worth it. I feel sorry how much more expensive cars are in Australia. Btw, these vehicles are just 2-row SUVs in the US as people in general are a fair bit larger here.
How reliable is the diesel engine? Just wondering if it will last beyond >10yrs. Also drove the Kia Sorento GT and the ride was on the firm side, hope the Santa Fe isn't like that. Also does the comfort mode make the suspension softer?
It's actually the other way around. they themselve calls it a facelift. They swiped out couple of parts and it became completely new car. How they did it, "compared" to pre-gen it's so elegant and luxurious. At a glance, grill looks like gmc denali. hyundai used all the practical cheap parts to make it so afforadable yet it looks more elegant than any sub $45000usd.
Interesting set of differences as well as similarities between the Santa Fe and Sorento siblings. The comparison is somewhat different here in North America. The most obvious difference is that the North American version of the Santa Fe is available only as a five passenger model (i.e. no third row.) The Sorento comes with a standard third row in all trims, designated as "plus two" seating (a laudable example of honest marketing speak.) Further, the Sorento also comes with second row captain chairs in the highest trim while the Santa Fe is (not surprisingly) is fitted only with a second row bench. We don't have a diesel option in either the Santa Fe or the Sorento. Each comes with a base 2.5L 4 cylinder petrol engine and the turbocharged version of the engine as the more powerful option. KIA announced a diesel version of the Sorento in the US a couple of years ago but cancelled it in the wake of "dieselgate." Not surprising given that our cheap petrol in the US has resulted in a minuscule "take rate" for diesel powered passenger vehicles. We're also fixated on measuring performance by 0-60 mph acceleration so the 7 seconds or so in the US Sorento and Santa Fe with the 2.5L turbo option is far more appealing to Americans than the performance of a diesel version. Even taking into account our fixation with acceleration, though, we Americans aren't totally clueless. Thus, the new Sorento does have a hybrid version and a forthcoming PHEV version later this year. The Santa Fe is the same. But again, no diesel option for either vehicle. I was struck by the cargo capacity specs in the video. They're much less than the claims for the Santa Fe in the US. Total cargo space behind the first row is a claimed 72.1 cubic ft in the US version of the Santa Fe. That's slightly less than the Sorento (75.5 cubic ft) but far more than the 3 row Santa Fe's 58.2 cf shown in the video. Likewise, the claimed space behind the third row of the Sorento is 12.6 cubic ft, nearly 3 times as much as the video claims for the three row Santa Fe. And with the third row folded KIA claims the cargo space is 38.4 cubic ft for the Sorento versus the maximum 27.2 cf cited in the video for the Santa Fe. Either the US Sorento is far more "hollowed out" than the nearly identical size Australian Santa Fe or the measuring strategies are radically different. I strongly suspect the latter. We Americans are crazy for interior space in our SUVs so the I'm guessing that the cargo capacities of our Sorento are significantly optimistic compared to the Australian approach. (Either that or an Australian foot is considerably larger than an American foot. :))
If you would like to tow, the question of Sorento or Santa Fe is self answering: only the Santa is the go! Personal preference like interior looks is not a quality issue but purely a matter of taste, ok?
Hi Paul, Thanks for a great review and congrats on 100k. Just wondering if there's a chance you will be doing a review on the 2021 skoda octavia rs? No one in Asutralia has done one yet and it is very different from last years model. Would love to see your thoughts before I buy one.
The whole button debate on how many is too many on the dash. Personally I find when you own a vehicle, you know what’s where and I find it much quicker to push a button than find something buried in a sub menu on screen.
Didn't much like this till today saw one in gun metal and with the silver skid plates and accents it looked amazing and I loved the led brake light set up and led rear indicators though they are set low down they are bright and stand out. This over the sorrento for me when I win tatts!

Hi. Love the videos. Between this and the new facelifted Skoda KODIAQ RS, which one would you recommend?
When are you doing a review of Honda Accord Hybrid 2021 ?
Are we getting the Santa Cruz by any chance ??
Great review but I would have valued some comments on how the petrol model compared.
I would like to see a comparison of the Sante Fe and RAV4 as both are AWD and have similar boot capacity.
What about the heads up display?
Sorry - forgot to mention!
@@CarExpertAus that's okay Paul. So is the HUD really good in Sante Fe?
If you would like to tow, the question of Sorento or Santa Fe is self answering: only the Santa is the go!
Personal preference like interior looks is not a quality issue but purely a matter of taste, ok?
Was waiting for this review before I made up my mind. Kia Sorento it is then mate
Good luck finding one, 6 months await
Please review the 2024 santa fe
Teasing us with pictures of the new Kluger! When will you review it ?
Hi Paul, Thanks for a great review and congrats on 100k. Just wondering if there's a chance you will be doing a review on the 2021 skoda octavia rs? No one in Asutralia has done one yet and it is very different from last years model. Would love to see your thoughts before I buy one.
Thanks! Funny you should mention that - driving one at the moment 😁 review coming this Friday.
@@CarExpertAus woohoo...Thanks paul. Hope your having fun in it.
Is the hybrid option coming this year?, It's a risk to buy diesel engine.
Fingers crossed. It’s due to come later this year - hopefully it’s not delayed.
@@CarExpertAus thank you Paul for the reply. I'm using a 2013 Sante Fe, looking to upgrade if the hybrid comes.
Shouldn't have any battery problems reckon they have them sorted now after last debacle.
The whole button debate on how many is too many on the dash. Personally I find when you own a vehicle, you know what’s where and I find it much quicker to push a button than find something buried in a sub menu on screen.
Fair point!
Good review, is it me or does that interior look dated already. For $70K the CX9 looks a lot cleaner. And I’m no Mazda fan boy by any means.
why you don't like dual clutch, Paul?
Didn't much like this till today saw one in gun metal and with the silver skid plates and accents it looked amazing and I loved the led brake light set up and led rear indicators though they are set low down they are bright and stand out. This over the sorrento for me when I win tatts!
Santa Fe best SUV...Much better than the new Sorento.
do you have an offroad rig? show us some of your skills Paul.
Great review as always Paul. I think this is a car every family should own....This does look better than the previous model, especially with those lighting system.
100K Subscribers.... congratulations , you deserve that. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!!
IN respons i atcull love that center console, even though i am a big fan of all touchscreen inteiors such as the velar. Like how high it sits and that slant it has.
Fair enough!
Can you please detail a Volvo XC60 T5 momentum please
