I’ve had this situation happen as a WR, basically it’ll keep giving position battles to move up until you reach the level your coach trust is at, it auto reorders depth charts between seasons and gives higher overall players the starting jobs. So since he’s QB2 after that battle he should be QB2 for week one and then get a battle to be QB1 from week 2 onwards
