The song is the story about the Passover and the 10th plague from the book of Exodus. The Israelites had been enslaved by the Pharaohs of Egypt for 400+ years.
James, Lars, and Cliff got a VHS of the movie The Ten Commandments starring Charlton Heston as Moses and went to Cliff Burton's parents house to watch it. The scene where the Angel of Death(the destroyer) descended upon the land in the form of a green fog killing the firstborn male with every dwelling not marked with lamb's blood on the door frames is what Cliff refered to as 'creeping death'. And that is from where the name of the song came.

Creeping Death is from the perspective of God’s Angel of Death relating the events of the 10th plague upon Egypt from the Exodus story of the Old Testament. The firstborns of the Egyptians were killed by the angel passing over, houses with lambs blood on the doorway were spared. It’s the plague that finally prompted the Pharaoh to release the Israelites from slavery, before he changed his mind and pursued them in revenge to his doom into the split Red Sea.

This song is about Passover, and how God told his people to mark their doors with lambs blood, so that he would pass by their house and not kill their first born son. God was using Moses to get all of his people out of Egypt and he had tried several different miracles to get Pharoh to let them go, but he wouldn't, until he finally sent "Death" to kill all of the first born male child, including the Pharohs son. By doing that, the Pharoh finally let all of the Hebrew slaves out of captivity. They wrote this song after watching The Ten Commandments movie.

The Christians believe that their deity brought multiple plaques, water turning to blood, frogs, lice, flies, livestock pestilence, boils, hail, locusts, darkness and the killing of firstborn children, upon the pharaoh and that Moses warned him over and over until the pharaoh freed his people. It was after this that Moses took the Israelite's on a journey to the promised land. Along the way the waters of the red sea were parted and Moses received the ten commandments.
To understand this song you should watch The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston as Moses.

Such a great song about the exodus, 2nd book of the bible where through Moses, God freed the Hebrews from slavery, It was the angle of death (creeping death) sent by God to kill the first born in every Egyptian household that did not have lambs blood painted on the door (hence the jewish holiday 'passover') which Moses gave this data to the hebrews before the angel of death arrived... this final stroke convinced the Pharaoh to free the Hebrews

  • @notfried2004

It is the Passover, and you dont have to do a "deep dive", just read the lyrics. "Slaves, Hebrews born to serve, to the Pharoah. Heed, to his every word. Live in fear. Faith of the Unknown One, the Deliverer. Wait. Something must be done. 400 years. (Chorus) So let it be written, so let it be done. Im sent here by the Chosen One. So let it be written, so let it be done. To kill tbe first born Pharaoh's son. Im creeping death. (That is the last plague God sent on Egypt of the ten plagues. The next verse is the Exudus of Israel from Egypt.) Now! Let My people go, land of Goshen. Go! 'I will be with thee', bush of fire. Blood. Running red and strong, down the Nile. Plague! Darkness three days long. Hail to fire. /chorus/ Die, by my hand. I creep across the land. Killing first born man. // I, rule the modnight air. The destroyer. I. I shall soon be there. Deadly mass. I, creep the steps and floor. Final darkness. Blood! Lamb's blood painted door, i shall pass. (Chorus)
