This was the first western bands concert after the opening of Russia and the fall of the Soviet Union. The crowd was approx. 1.6 million.
Wild!
well...they stopped counting at 1.6M, to be fair
@@maximeschiltz760 Lars said in an interview that the crowd was actually around 500,000, not 1.6 million. Still a LOT of people. Like most things over time when they are retold many time, accuracy tends to falter.
@@DaveG777 idk if the performers really know how many people are there lol. They aren’t thinking about that. They just know it’s a lot
The concert was actually held just before(not after) the fall of the soviet union and right after the unsuccessful coup attempt in aug 91.
Seeing Metallica live is absolutely mind blowing. I've been twice, and it is indescribable.
I agree! I remember convincing my girlfriend way back to go to a Metallica show with me. We got there early and got right on the rail. It was an amazing experience!
Back when I used to go to shows I saw them in '99 and it was garbage. They were at the peak of their MTV years and there were a bunch of normies that never saw a mosh pit in their lives so when the shit started the front crowd just went backwards trying to escape and the people in the back pushed forwards. Metalheads got pissed at the quantity of normies and started chanting "Megadeth", and someone threw a shoe at Hetfield's chest. The sound was too low, too.
I've seen Metallica 5 times they're incredible live❤
The true emperors of live performances 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Good live shows for sure. However there is no band out of literally hundreds across many genres in any venue you can imagine that puts on a live show like Iron Maiden. Every aspect of their show is at a level 100x of anything you'll ever see. And it's not close. THIS performance of course is EPIC given the setting etc and I do love watching it😁
Yes! 1.6 million in 1991 Moscow. One of the not to many largest concert crowds in history. Thats when the Soviet Union eased restrictions and while heading to the total fall of the Soviet Union. Saw these guys here in Chicago at the Metro 1983. One of my favorite head banging Heavy Metal Bands. You see soviet soldiers in uniform & citizens together Jamming out together. Amazing...
Metallica are just awesome live as they are their albums. I saw them live in 1988 when I was 16. There’s one word to describe Metallica: MINDBLOWING! You’re still amazing. Thanks.
I'M AN OLD METAL HEAD, HAVE FOLLOWED THE LEGENDS SINCE THE EARLY YEARS. BEEN TO 16 LIVE SHOWS FROM FIRST ALBUM TO LAST ONE.. .NEVER LEFT DISAPPOINTED!
I love how this was shot and edited
This was at an airfield outside Moscow - estimates were a million people were in attendance!
That's what you call world peace right there!
Billy Idol - Rebel Yell (Official Music Video). Hard rock/new wave from 1983.
This was such a wild time in Metal music!!! Over 1.6 million people at this concert!!! This was the "Monsters of Metal" tour that included bands Metallica, Ac/Dc, Pantera and others. I think 56 people died during this concert from heat exhaustion! the helicopters flying over were not for security but acting as big giant fans to blow air on the crowd to help with the over heating issues. So insane and so METAL!!!!
As was said below, estimated crowd size was 1.6 million!!!
And now you know why lots of us wanted you to watch this one.
As we say here in Texas; Y'all be safe. I'm dodging tornadoes tonight. Whew!!
I never get tired of looking at the crowd and how they get into it. Watching the soldiers that were there to maintain order become part of the screaming crowd is just great. Watching what Metallica could do with a crowd that was at the time in Soviet Russia it’s not hard to see why Metallica can make the claim of being the only rock band to ever perform on every continent there is.
Yes!! Happy that you decided to include this live show. “Fuel” by Metallica is a great workout song, should watch the video live or official then add to your playlist 🤘🏻
Trying out my new headphones - Too Good! Enjoyed your Reaction & May Music Rule the World!!! Best Wishes From Aussieland👍
Trust me when I say Metallica still has it.
The new album is going to be a return to the old school Metallica, but with a modern twist.
I just want to tell the group thank you for doing that, it's going to make the two or extra special👊🤘
I last saw Metallica around this same time back in 91 in Oklahoma City. And it's the loudest most crazy concert I've ever seen! Was a blast.
Seeing members of the Red Army rocking out to Metallica is crazy 😂😂
Now you need to react to Metallica's performance of "Creeping Death" from the same concert. In fact it's the next song they perform right after "Enter Sandman"
What a great opportunity we had in Russia for sharing freedom, not politics. Had to totally " F " that up. I'll keep Rocking. Great music, glad you like old folks music 😂
\m/ Oh Yeah! \m/ 🖒🖒
Seattle '89 awesome live performance. I'm quite certain the fans will direct you there at some point lol
They were still awesome live about 5 years ago. It was the first time they came to my state on a weekend in forever, so was my first time seeing them live. They had not missed a beat.
Hello guys Eamonn here from Ireland 🇮🇪🇮🇪☘️☘️. Now this song by this band is for sure one for the gym. But instead of you hearing this song in your own ears when you workout it would be amazing for everyone if this song just came up all around the gym with everyone hearing it. But I know that wouldn’t happen but wouldn’t it be amazing if it did. Hearing this song for everyone right through the hole gym. But this song is amazing. And the crowd there just blew my mind away and choppers in the sky too. Was told there was 1:6 million people there. That’s mad. I’m into a lot of old school rap because I workout 6 days a week and that’s all I ever listen to when I’m breaking into a sweat. Been training now with weights for about ten years but I do love rock music or Heavy Metal too. Always have. Anyway you guys have a great day what ever your doing your friend Eamonn here from Ireland 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪☘️☘️☘️✌️✌️✌️cheers.
Check out Creeping Death or Harvester of Sorrow from this concert too. Amazing performances
Their so much good live songs , I would say “disposable heroes” from Mexico City, and anything from the 89’ Seattle shows are fire!!!
have always been great live, still are. very tight in concert.
Ty[ical guy that bench presses and lady that has avocado on toast... love ur reactions :D
Great reaction! Some other bands/songs are Guns and Roses "Rocket Queen", Ratt "Round and Round", Van Halen "Mean Street". Thanks guys!!!
Great reaction Phil and Sam!
Thank you!
This song is fantastic and the crowd insane !!!!!
Yea I've seen Metallica live 5 times from 1992 to 2006 and they are the best live band I've ever heard. I've been to a great many concerts to so I have a lot to compare it to. They are legendary.
U two great looking double watching this amazing band
They said it was 1.6 million people there
54 people died that day. There's a behind the scenes documentary (For Those About To Rock) about the clash between concert goers & military.
She looks like a cross between Sela Ward and Angie Harmon. Beautiful!!
They're amazing live!
Love y’all and this was one concert I’d love to experience 😩😩♥️♥️
Thx! 💯
I'm 25 and saw them 4th time.
No of my friends are Metallica fan, so i saw them alone and it's the best you could do. Just make it
I saw them during this tour (The black album) in the "Stockholm stadion" (outside) in Sweden, june-92. Phenomenal!
1.6 million people.. Wow, absolutely incredible😊
This is at an old Moscow Air base. That's why there's all the military personnel there to keep things from getting out of hand
The intro is actually The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Done by Billy Strange back in the 60's.
I think they made the earth wobble a little that day...😮
Greatful dead - touch of grey - video- Awesome !
Creeping Death from this same concert is mind blowing. Harder, faster, but still quite accessible for you guys. Check it out!
1.6 million people! Crazy
Nobody does God- mode like Metallica. 🔥🔥🔥🖤🖤🔥🔥🙌
They are as good as they were then, today. I enjoy you two!
a couple of years before this, Jason Newsted threw water in my face. Per my request.
There was an estimated 1.6 million people at the 1981 Monsters Of Rock concert in Moscow which featured Motley Crue, AC/DC and Metallica.
I was only 2 years old at this time 33 now that was alot of people would have been a cool concert to go to
Over a million people! Simply crazy….
You like this in Moscow, you need to watch anything from Metallica live in Seattle 89 mind blowing
Dont know if you have reacted to Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb Live at the Pulse concert yet. Maybe greatest guitar solo ever
I actually watched the entire concert it was called the Monsters of Rock tour 91 in Moscow
In all likelihood there will never be a bigger concert than this.
Another awesome live performance is Lynird Skinner's life. awesome guitar solos.
the opening song is Ecstasy of Gold from ennio morricone, a really great song from the movie the good, the bad and the ugly, you should react to it
it was estimated about 1 million plus people
1.6 million is what is said to have been there!
Massive crowd !
We are still trying to reach the parking lot. Was in the front.
Jason Newsted backing James here made it more legendary :D
They still got it
Yep, it really happened😂
So awesome
Can you imagine what the thunder created by 1.6 million people stomping and jumping up and down would have sounded like 😂😂😂. I bet people who weren't at the concert thought there was a 4 hour earthquake 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wonder if Metallica will play in this exact spot again live
With all the shit going on with the war… hard unlikely
Legend says that in that day, there was true world peace.
Seen them Twice👊✌️🤘🙏
You need to check out The Warning's latest version of Enter Sandman. Those girls made it their own!
It's scary that people have no idea about this concert and the geopolitical reasons.... The WALL FELL. Those kids first taste of freedom. The young soldiers throwing away their uniforms...
You _HAVE_ to see the cover of this song by a band called The Warning. They're 3 young girls from Mexico. Back in 2014 they recorded this viral video, when they were 9, 12 & 14 years old. The bass player was the 9 year old, and her bass was almost bigger than her. It's incredlbly good for such young girls. Hell, it's incredibly good for _ANYBODY!_
I believe it was over 1 million people
1.6 million
9 million people were there
1.6 million...
They got to see the light again.
There is a video of most of the concert with the other bands that were there
Great job 👍 with your reaction to the live performance of Enter Sandman from Metallic in 91 from Moscow . The next video from The same show has to be Domination From Pantera were you see the greatest guitarists Dime Bag and guitar Solo of All Time from him. 1.6 Million person were there.
Pantera stole that show hands down. Lars Ulrich said in an interview that when Metallica came on stage was much later in the day and a majority of the crowd had already left the show. Pantera was the first act 2pm but they had to get ready for sound checks at 8:30 in the morning and Jason Newstead Stated that the guys were partying with Metallica till early morning drinking and doing their thing that at best Pantera had at most an hour of sleep. By the time they took the stage the crowd was way bigger, and their performance stole the entire show. in the two videos you can see the crowd size difference in the arial shots. Domination by far just showed the energy with one hour of sleep and boozed up. Dimebag's solo in that song is lethal. As fans of hip-hop you will hear that Pantera is defined as groove metal versus Metallica and the like as thrash metal. Groove metal there is a more refined relationship with guitar and drums over thrash with it being guitar driven heavily. Guess the Abbott brothers playing all those years together that drum and guitar flow so well. May the legends forever R.I.P
Need to check out the three man group from Canada called Triumph, magic carpet ride or the many other songs

The official Russian count was 500,000 in the audience but actual count was believed to be 1.3 to 1.6 million people!
Check out a band called The Warning and their cover of Enter Sandman (with Alesia Cara) Phenomenal.
Lynyrd Skynyrd freebird live from Oakland CA 1977!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wednesday.
You guys should check out Rise above this by Seether. A powerful song!
The helicopters were there to direct medical teams if someone was in need. Cause it was a lot of people, 19 people died I believe. Great reaction and throwback to an awesome time in history.
That could be be one reason. The main function was the helicopters blades to circulate the air amongst the cram-packed spectators.
I can't help but think that the Russian soldiers in front of the crowd peed in their pants a little bit when the crowd started up.😁
Greetings from Russia Moscow.
Due to recent accidents from large crowds around the world this will most likely be the most people to attend a concert ever at 1.6 million attendees.
1.6 million people!
Hi from Adelaide Australia, please please check out the band SILVERCHAIR live in Newcastle. The song is called - paint pastel.
I wrote a bachelor diploma about concerts and that i definitelly the biggest, loudest and wildest concert in history, estimated average from 1 to 1,6 million. Heaven.

This was monster of rock gigs headlined by AC/DC . Would recommend AC/DC live from donighton, thunderstruck which Metallica also played at ❤️🏴
36 people actually died during this concert of monsters of rock!! Concert.
This song led into their next song "Creeping Death" same concert in Moscow, check it out please.
THAT FUCKING INTRO!!! HOLY SHIT MORRICONE!
Metallic was the FIRST rock band to play in Moscow! This music festival happened after the iron curtain came down. It was a defining moment there. 1.6 million there as it was held on an air field.
Epic!
Well, Pantera played before them at this gig, and ACDC played after them - so they weren't first 😁
Great reaction. Could you please react to Pink Floyd’s, Comfortably Numb (Live at Pulse) guitar solo will blow you away
The Black Crows, Metallica, headlined by AC/DC 1991 Moscow.
