- On July 7, 2016, a peaceful protest in downtown Dallas turned deadly when a shooter unconnected to the rally opened fire, targeting police officers. Five officers died and nine officers and two civilians were injured. Police killed the gunman, Micah Johnson, by detonating a bomb in the room at El Centro College where he was hiding.
This short documentary tells the story of the Dallas Morning News journalists who were on the scene during the shooting or at the hospitals where the injured officers were taken.

I hate knowing law enforcement is political and the chief and captains you see on TV are using it as stepping stones. No one really knows the officers who were diagnosed with cancer or the ones that committed suicide because they can't capitalize on that. Even the good state employees get no recognition for dying on the job their getting crap pay for. From what is shown here at the beginning it looks like there was tremendous animosity and hatred displayed before the shooting started. Lovely Aya It wasn’t hatred. You need to look at things the media doesn’t show you. I’ve seen a video of an innocent man, clearly very drunk and fearing for his life, attempting to simultaneously crawl down a hallway on his hands and knees while also keeping his hands up, as instructed by the police officer. While trying to do this task that would be difficult enough when sober, his pants fall down a bit, and he reaches to pull them up so he can continue crawling. As soon as he does, the cop wearing the bodycam opens fire. To clarify, I watched a video of a crying, sobbing man, scared for his life and doing everything he can to cooperate, take 10+ assault rifle shots to the head and body. Do the research, these things do happen, and while I don’t think shootings are a permanent solution, this kind of activism is the only thing that will wake up the United States’ people and get everyone to fight for reform.
