So glad he's getting away from mainstream metal.
This is the perfect way to describe discovering Insomnium. It’s exactly the way I felt when I first heard them years ago. Once you discover their music and delve into their lyrics, you reach some sort of deeper revelation of this world and the human condition. It changes you.
Insomnium is one of a kind. You have to listen to Winter's Gate in its entirety

Insomnium is a special band. All of their music is rich with emotion and excellent writing. One of my all time favorites.

Finally listening to Insomnium. Many of us have been trying to get you to listen to them for a long, long time. The next time you revisit insomnium(hopefully soon) you should check out through the shadows or weather the storm. Both songs are sonically incredible and have very strong messages.
You should also check out dark tranquility songs like clearing skies(for a new example) and of Melancholy Burning(a classic song from them)
He needs to listen to weather the storm. It's one of my favorite songs of all time. It blew my mind when it came out. Didn't think they could get any better but they proved me wrong.
Daughter of the Moon or Song of the Forlorn Son would be amazing too.
Alex this was my first time hearing this song as well and I was equally impressed. I love it!!

Mine are While We Sleep (obviously), Devoid of Caring, The Lay of Autumn, When the Last Wave Broke and Ephemeral.
For me, Only one who waits is still top. One of the most powerfull lyrics I have ever heard
This growling is actually believable. I usually can't stand them, because so often they sound like teenage bost - 'being scary'. But this sounds like real suffering in the voice, like with compassion, empathy - and it turns out impressive and captivating, when usually the growls kill me the mood.
Insomnium was the band that single-handedly turned me on to death metal. I never was into the 'growls' either; never understood them. Then came Insomnium. Put it this way - since the first time I popped 'One For Sorrow' into my CD player, I've seen them play live over 10 times and have had to travel each time. Met them multiple times. Very good guys.
Time for Be'lakor - Fraught live ( melodic death metal band from Australia)
I listened to a few albums from Be'lakor on RUclips but never watched them live. Absolutely perfect execution. Bad ass recommendation. Although, I think Alex still needs cleans to fall back on in order to fully enjoy a Metal song still, but that's just speculation.

Insomnium is easily the best Melodic Death Metal band, One For Sorrow, When the Last Wave Broke, and The Harrowing Years are also amazing songs. Also still waiting for Epilogue by Fleshgod Apocalypse.

I cant pick a favorite insomnium song. Only a few bands do that to me.

Don't hate me for saying this but I love OG even better than Insomnium. Went to their live show three months ago and was completely blown away! Jukka's growls are soooo delicious! And their contact with the audience was beyond perfect. Came out of the show crying like a little girl 😊😊😊

But what version of Mirror Mirror? Ultimately I’d have to say the album version. The live versions would give you something more interesting to watch, but with their production levels, the live songs really benefit from knowing the studio versions.

Now Winter's Gate could be your next album that you react as a whole, as you did with Rust in Peace. Winter's Gate by Insomnium is a masterpiece! An atmospheric and melodic black metal album, with acoustic guitars and piano, and very poetic.

Honestly I think Upon the Water is a great intro to Swallow the Sun. The entire When a Shadow album is great, and is nice to build into Songs from the North, then further back where they are less melodic and more doom. I have really enjoyed the evolution of Swallow the Sun over the years, and honestly think their discography in reverse is pretty much the perfect entry point into MDM and Doom Metal.
Yeah, Upon The Water would also be a good entry. I just thought it would be better not to start with something as emotionally loaded as the latest album...
There is also new moon. But first song I heard from swallow the sun was plague of butterflies

I actually really like how you started to understand the music, knowing (or at least thinking that you know) when to expect solo, when to expect the bridge to end and chorus to start, when to expect breakdown, I can see it on your face, the anticipation for the next song segment to come. Saying, "It's just sceaming" is like me saying that rap is just talking. Shit, most modern pop is just talking into a computer and letting the computer turn your voice into singing. At least that screaming is real.

They are SOOO GOOOD live! Insomnium is one of the most consistent bands in the genre. They've been cooking right from their first album, only adding nuances and flair with each release.
How about some Celtic metal and react to some Eluveitie?? They're dope af and I think that you will adore them.

Freaking finally!! To me, Insomnium is the epitome of Melodic Death Metal, their music takes me places and makes me happy. There are so many more songs that you could check out by them, but what I can really recommend is to take 45 minutes out of your day, sit down, relax and just listen to Winter‘s Gate without interruption. It‘s their latest album, 45 minutes, 1 song. It will take you on an emotional rollercoaster where every single second is worth being on.

Legit one of my favourite guitar solo's in any metal track. Album is godly. ALSO weird but funny fact about the song; it has nearly the exact same chord progression as Get Lucky by Daft Punk.
