    Great video and confirms why one should stay the hell away from the shoulders. Not one of those heads would penetrate at elk hunting distance, as this test is 10 yards... No reason to shoot tight to shoulders, plenty of room rearward to double lung. On Elk or whitetail...

    Shot a 90lb whitetail doe this year with 100gr exodus, deer was quartering to real hard, entered halfway up the neck and exited at the hind quarter. Complete pass through almost 4ft of deer, and she folded up where she stood. Of the 5 deer I’ve killed with the exodus over the last two years 4 have went down in sight. I’m completely sold, and for a fixed. Blade they tune and fly like an absolute dream. I’ll never shoot anything else

    Always good to see broadhead testing. Very hard to get close to the real thing but you all did a great job! I was very surprised with the results. This last elk season I shot my elk through the thinner part of the shoulder. Arrow got broke into three pieces as it ran off and then fell over in about 50 yards and never moved! Setup was AXIS 5mm 29 inch single right hand bevel Cuttthroat 125 grain broadhead. Mathews phase 4 75 pounds with 28.5 draw length. Arrow weight is around 470. Shot was at 19.3 yards and the broken piece went all the way through the elk.

    • @rschwarck44
      @rschwarck44 2 месяца назад +16

      The single bevels in a target/ cardboard expends energy faster as it is trying to continue to rotate, but given the medium it is going through is preventing that cause energy loss and therefore reduced penetration. These tests are nothing more than entertainment they do very, very little to provide any sort of definitive results that you could rely on for shooting actual animals.

    • @16tkoger
      @16tkoger 2 месяца назад +2

      Single bevels don’t even perform when they do hit what they are supposed to, they create no wound channel

    Trent, I think it was you that hunted with Aaron from THP when he put a single bevel through a bull elk front to back at about 20 yards. Got video guys. Still have to get through the hide and muscle before you encounter bone and the mechanicals are going to suffer even more. Finally, when you hit heavy bone, the Ashby stuff comes into play, so arrow mass and f.o.c. are factors along with a stouter broadhead, say 200 grains.

I have not seen much difference on animals when it comes to single vs double bevel when it comes to performance. If I were to shoot a replaceable blade head it would be the Exodus. I have gotten away from mechanicals all together. I tend to shoot very close to the shoulder and none of them work well going into heavy bone. Enjoyed the video

    I have never been a fan of mechanicals,, too many variables of what can fail/go wrong!
    As a sportsman, the "instant kill" is always the objective, and that means using the best "tool" for the job.
    That being said,, then there's the debate over 2, 3, or 4 blade - fixed, or replaceable, blades?? Also the question of what grain, and width?
    What lbs. test bow do you prefer,, and what size/kind of arrows?

      @@bornandraisedoutdoors Have you considered the way a single bevel cuts? It separates flesh, but in cardboard, it stops that arrow very quickly because it's more than simple straight friction. It's trying to pry that cardboard apart as it cuts. They penetrate in real elk, especially in a heavier arrow. I shoot a 200 grain Grizzly Stik Maasai. My 2023 elk was quartering hard to me and I hit him very close to the shoulder. It passed through his lung, liver and hay packed stomach. It then went out his far hindquarter and stuck into a stump behind him. No surprise there. He had no clue what happened. He started walking again and died 35 yards later. The broad head still shaves. There are a LOT of great broadheads and I was also impressed with the exodus, but don't take away my Maasai's please :-)

If you are searching for the benefit of a "single Bevel" you need to use a design with a thick blade and high mechanical advantage, like the Abowyer Brown Bear. I believe in Iron Will's experience the double bevel performs better in some tests....

    QAD is hands down the best bone breaking and penetrating broadhead on the market. Josh Bowmar just dropped a video 4 hr ago showing his new Beast expandable broadhead shooting through cow hide and a rib cage and organs out of a 90lb bow. This was a realistic example but we all know you can shoot anything through the soft spot of a deer or elk. Would love you to put his Beast broadhead up against the QAD exodus out of a more normal hunting setup, 60-70lbs with 400-500gr arrow and see how his broadheads penetrate through an elk scapula. I think you might silence him on his marketing scheme.

      I've killed two elk with the 125 grain slick trick standards. Bumped up to the 150 grain for this year. Would like to see the slick trick tested on a scapula. Would also like to know what arrow weight they are using.

      I have always been most impressed with what a 4 blade slick trick does on animals.

    My take away was the mechanicals did better than the single bevel! I don’t get to elk hunt anyhow but I blow through white tails with Rage 150 grain, going to try Swhacker 150’s this year.

    I would have liked to have seen how having hide over the front would have changed things. Try pushing one through that's not a cut on contact head vs one that is, huge difference

    Would like a test on the Annihilator broadhead. I would almost bet it would do as good as or even better than the QAD!

    Need to do a double beveled 2 blade. Those are supposed to be the best at penetration.

    Yeah, VPAs are designed to be sharpened before taking those into the field - again not sure if that would have impacted your test.

    Like to see how the Magnus Black Hornet Ser- Razor does. Tested it on a dairy cow shoulder blade with a watermelon behind it. Did pretty good, but like y’all said, not the real thing. And I didn’t hit that edge on the scapula.

    Is a shoulder blade on the hoof different than one thats defleshed and frozen? You would think there has to be some difference.. The density of what the blade is attached to - allowing it to penetrate further instead of flexing and absorbing impact ???
