to be completely honest I probably love this anime more than most people I really liked it...and....I...enjoyed X2.......
Though I will admit that the ending of the first season is just......Yah....
I'm still peeved that they spend the majority of the second half of the season building to the big dramatic point where the three "main" characters find out who the others really are in a huge dramatic payoff, and then we get, what, *one* of those revelations on-screen? Two? And they're always one-sided and the character being revealed isn't even really there to react to it. It's just... disappointing.
Yeah I like the show to but how the fuck is Masaomi Kida an ex gang leader?
I still haven't checked out season 2 yet.
Still, I love the characters (especially Masaomi, Shizuo and the twins), Celty and Shinra are one of the cutest couples in anime history, Isaac and Miria's cameos are perfect and Izaya can go die in a fire.
Same! I'm surprised people dislike X2...I liked it more than season one. Also, the last season was my favorite, shit went down and I loved the suspense! It was so awesome!!
The part you're sort of missing is that it's not about a series of coincidence, the theme of the series is how everyone has secrets. And how those secrets affect those around them.
yeah the 3 high school kids in particular are all keeping secrets from each other and has a very big effect. It gets a lot better after season 1
Yeah but the crappy ending made all that worth nothing.
Season one's ending isn't the ending, season two isn't even the end of the story because the light novels are still going. Now as for season two, the first cur is awesome, the second cur is a bit convoluted, mostly because of Izzaya, he is an ass hole, but that's kinda the point, he's an ass hole, he lives to incite chaos, he is a horrible person. That's his character and he is the source of most of the strife in the series. But he's a character you love to hate, because he is so entertaining in his diabolical nature. Durarara isn't perfect, but it is entertaining.
Bernie Burton also there weren't that many "coincidences"
I read the Lightnovel and got a better picture... but nearly everything that fucking happened had something to do with infotroll
You mean Izaya? The best character?
I fucking love Baccano and Durarara both. Some of my favorites ever.
I love those anime. Two of my all-time favorites.
I'll admit, they do characters amazingly
I agree that they are some of my favorites, but I feel like my favorites list is longer than most. Still, amazing anime XD
Oh, yeah, my favorites list is giant. Still, those two will be on it.
KhaosElement And Etsusa bridge and vamp... I am Narita trash, he is the god of creative characters and plot twists
I love Durarara. I dont care what anyone says.
I love the cast, the stories. I love it all.
Sebastian Cintron You and me alike
It couldn't be better organizied?
Agreed.
@@KidSnivy69 isn't that like the whole point of the series?
@CLOUD CREAM yup I still do.
"IZAYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!"
Shizu-chan.
xSonicSeedrian SASUKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
White Knight NARUTOOOOOOOOOO
xSonicSeedrian INUYASHAAAAAAAA!
FOR DA EMPRAAAAAAH!!!
Why do people hate Izaya?
He is well written, being pathetic and masterful at the same time (his theme is even called He's Such a Coward That He Can Laugh) he can be a total ass, but what is the fun in a goody-two-shoe of a villain. His psychopathic treats are so much fun to see and his sense of love a reliable (for me). And yes, he likes to see people suffer, but doesn't everyone to a certain extent? And while most of us do this on the internet, he just goes for it.
What I want to say is that I love Izaya, as the asshat he is.
Draw Back Izaya is a pinnacle of a "love to hate" character. Since the character is fictional, it's fun to watch them, even root for them at times, because they are so wildly unlikable. But if you ever met them irl...
(Also Izaya is quite an interesting villain because of how philosophical he tends to get.)
The Squished true irl I would avoid him as much as possible. But I also can't hate him because he genuinely enjoys what he is creating.
@@thesquishedelf1301
Izaya is not a villain, durarara don´t have white and black characters
and definitely is not a story with villains and heroes
Also the anime cuts off many things about Izaya just to make him appear a sociopath.
@@GeneSv
Izaya is by far the most complex character in durarara series,
I only whated the anime and read the novels because of him
If he existed in real life he will still be a better person than many people you can imagine,
in some aspects he is a better person than many characters in durarara universe.
Also he is not a villain, durarara definitely is not a story with "villains and heroes"
"I also think that but Izaya is like an addictive poison. Once you get involved, you go crazy somehow… But in my case, the poison helped me but there are many people who are destroyed by it. Really, I think that guy is like a strong drug. Then if he’s a strong drug, he can be a poison or a medicine depending on the usage. But that guy is not a medicine or pill that has no intentions."
- Sharaku Mikage about Orihara Izaya, Durarara!! Light Novel, Volume 11
“I like to see the sight of a human happy from the bottom of his heart when he wins the lottery. I really enjoy seeing that happiness when until that point that person just had a mediocre life and then suddenly changes to the extraordinary. However, I like seeing those with that ordinary life and those who ruin themselves with money both equally. However, I only occasionally get to see those times where one takes the path of their own self-destruction.”
- Orihara Izaya, The Sunset With Orihara Izaya (Translation by Kaedesan721)
Well written charater doesn't mean he isn't an asshole (look a Kyubye)
> Constantly says "The ending is paramount"
> Consistently never watches the second season of a series which contains the endings
Also, personally I believe that episodes 12-24 are fantastic. This show is without a doubt worthy of having the "Buy it" rating that Arkada uses. He undersold the series that is far far better than he makes it out to be.
Glad you made counter-arguments to his negative criticisms thus devaluing his review and bolstering your position of the show being good . . . or you could just fangasm and hope that gets people to watch it.
People should learn how to appreciate anime instead of criticizing. Every anime has its limitations, the most important part in watching anime is that whether we can get ''what it intends to offer us'' and whether we enjoy it. Any flaw is acceptable as long as it doesn't affect our enjoyment.
We are looking for enjoyment, not looking for flaws when watching anime, whether you see anime as entertainment or art. All in all, no matter how goo or bad the show is under certain criteria, the most important thing is whether you love it or not.
I love bad anime, and I know how to have fun, that's good enough.
@@chingshunyung8796 no people have opinion and have the right to express their selfs and criticize things
People have their opinions and that’s completely fine as long as you can justify it. But conflicting opinions is what makes our world interesting, so don’t think I’m not gonna take the opportunity to argue how I see things also.
It's his opinion, stop bitchin
Hey Arkada, I love how you kept the "rarararararara" in the background between 1:31-1:36.
Tekki 7^3 Kakyoin: lelolelolelolelolelolelolelolelo
Tekki 7^3 it was adorable
it was great xD
Tekki 7^3 It's like Toblerone&on&on&on&on&on&on&on...
I really love durarara it's my 2nd favorite anime but I can admit it's not for everyone
same! I personally also LOVE DRRR but one of my friends didn't enjoy it at all and dropped it after ep 3. It's an anime you either love or 'hate'... i've never talked to anyone in between.
+Mátrai Eszter damn you have to get past the 3rd episode to get the rest same with me a lot of my friends loved it and a lot of my other friends dropped it after 3eps so yeah I get what you mean
Isiah Wong I fell in love with the series after Izayas first appearance... he was the reason why I watched it until episode 12, then the rest of the story became really interesting... of course Infoboy is still my favorite character
Watched till episode 5 and didnt feel like anything was happening...
Yes, people usually love or hate it, and the first three episodes are mostly pretty boring. But, there was mainly one character that I started the show for, and he kept me watching! You can probably guess who it is~ It's a sad thing that most of my friends and people I've seen hate him so much, but oh well, you can't win them all~
So did he just ditch the animation, sound, characters, story format or what?
Yeah he's changed his format a lot over the years.
I did wish he talked about the music, it's one of the show's best parts ^.^
Honestly I want him to go back to that format. It was perfect for organizing his thoughts in a way that was easy to understand.
Also, hopefully he does mention the sound whenever he gets around to Durarara season 2
Yeah, I agree with Sterling Muse, I like that each thing about the anime had its own section.
Yes in some animes sometimes he mention it, sometimes not, it is a little more inconsistent now I think, I feel like animation, soundtrack and the characters must be in every revision, I also liked the old format, tho this is not bad I feel the Incosistency.
What?
No discussion of
- the music
- the characters, their development and interactions
- the particular story lines
This is a disappointing review.
Basically "it's not baccano so it's not cool"
"Perhaps you'll find the show's flaws to be not as bad as I consider them to be."
Uh.... yeah, basically. You were actually super vague on what you considered those flaws were. That there was a lot of coincidence? That's not particularly new in stories, and for stories trying to make a big city feel like a small world like Durarara is, it's sort of the point.
Honestly, it sounded like your biggest flaw with the series was that it wasn't Baccano. Makes me wonder if you would have enjoyed it differently if you'd never seen Baccano/if Baccano never existed.
One: Don't every imply a world were Baccano! doesn't exist
Two: While I enjoy Durarara, it started as character pieces and then tried forcing everything together unnaturally
KidSnivy96 I agree that it didn’t have the most realistic character interconnections, but not every story needs realism to drive home its message. I felt like the whole point of this anime was to show how Ikebukuro was a small world and Season 1 showed the impact the characters had on each other and the city by keeping secrets. I understand not every anime is for everyone and they all have their flaws but what I saw supersedes its issues in my opinion.
Baccano is only even structured the way he likes because how the Anime changed it. The LNs are much more similar to how this show is.
JOJO TOMMOROW
YES
I wanna see him shit on it tbh.
Ibrahim Hassan is that confirmed?
Reality Forge Yeah
It'll finally be Wednesday...
This guy is literally downplaying the anime's driving force. The coincidences are roots that the rest has to build off of. They are not just random events throughout. Without the coincidences it wouldn't be Durarara. He's being very critical without a legit reason. I agree that the encounters are a little skeptic, but the relationship between the protagonists are needed, and purposefully included.
Yeah this guy tries to seem smart and judgemental, but in reality his words are empty. "Oh wow, the main characters coincidentally turned out to have a mystery that is going to drive the story. In a piece of fiction... Who could have expected that."
I think Durarara is supposed to be convoluted, and I think the coincidence is done that way to bring home the idea that it's actually a small world. The chaos that occurs in the later seasons is only more enjoyable for some (myself included). This isn't the only anime that I feel used chaos as a draw and form of entertainment, look at Kekkai Sensen for example. I think a disdain for this kind of storytelling is opinion and it isn't objectively flawed, and moreover I feel like Arkada somewhat missed that point.
Arkada if you read this (unlikely) please consider it and give your thoughts. I know I'm not the only one who enjoys being confused and sees this as a means to that end. It can almost be seen as a type of psychological thriller, or mystery story, and the plot revolves so closely around the main trio for good reason.
I can't belive that in your "most hated characters" list Excalibur from Soul Eater is not there. Not even 4th place?!
I think everyone has different tastes o:
Karakuioshi Excalibur was awesome!!!
FOOL
who the fuck hates Excalibur? he's literally unhateable
He's the most annoying character I've ever seen. Because of him I skipped an episode of an anime and I've never done that since!
Durarara is a lesser man's Baccano!
G_Spark233 My man with the Back to back savage ass comments
G_Spark233 Nah bro
It's the same author as the Baccano Light Novels
meh i couldn't really get into baccano.
I prefer Durarara over
Baccano
It does get much better in Durarara X2
NOT THE ANIMATION THOUGH
there are light novels to read if you dont like the animation
I disagree. I felt like X2 went nowhere with all of its plot lines & it ended up feeling pointless.
tim fsfafaf so
No it doesnt. It goes to shit really fast
I loved the characters too--so many cool cats!--but the pacing just collapsed (including in the later seasons).
And yes Baccano! was great!
I may be a Monster but I love Durarara!!
The only Monster here is your profile pic
Fallenangelzelos I reckon that's the joke
Johan pls.
So, are we just going to ignore his name?
it's johan! fast someone call doctor temma
Still better than 90% of all other light novel adaptions in the past 5 years looking at you SAO
Lord Blue balls SAO is far more entertaining. It has better animation, art, fight scenes and is better paced
Lord Blue balls The SAO anime as an adaption is pretty good ironically....
All the characters were boring Kirito is a terrible main character it has easily the worst villain of all time a creepy incest sub plot lots of distracting fan service including that disgusting rape scene or that time asuna got melested by tentacles so I'd say Durarara is the better anime
The characters suck but the story is good. That's my opinion of SAO, a solid 7/10 series that ruins its incredible story with boundless potential by making all the characters, shitty trope mixes that add so little to the story they actually take away from it.
This is why people's opinions of it are so varying. It's all about what parts you subconsciously focus on. Now for everyone suggesting that Kirito and Asuna are good characters I'd have to say that while they had their cool moments occasionally your opinion has been biased by those few cool moments into seeing the characters as cooler than they actually are in their boring scenes. IRL Kirito and Asuna were literally just recovering from what was basically a coma as far as their physical condition goes (they were literally just uninteresting cripples unlike Katawa Shojo characters who manage to be interesting despite their disabilities) after the SAO arc and before the GGO arc and the fact that Kirito was contacted by some important people to investigate shit in GGO can easily be chalked up to the fact that these adults don't know shit about these kinds of things and is little more interesting than my parents asking me to help them install google chrome on their computer. Kirito and Sinon had much better character interaction for a while but it quickly devolved into their boring most common tropes of all time interactions as with Kirito and everyone else in the SAO arc after the first few episodes. I couldn't keep watching because as amazing as the premise was for the story, the execution failed due to having characters which were too bland to fit the model, had the entire series been as good as the best parts this would be hands down the best anime of all time but it stopped trying to be a masterpiece a few episodes in and decided to take the boring way out for the rest of the series.
It's a solid 3 out of 10 for me
This is kinda funny to me because I didn't fall in love with Drrrrr until after episode 13 and loved the second half and X2 to pieces
These descriptions of Durarara/Baccano! remind me of Pulp Fiction's style of storytelling. Would that be accurate? It's a tricky style to get right even on a smaller scale.
That's pretty much what people compared it to.
Baccano!'s actually more like Snatch by Guy Ritchie. Durarara!!... I'm not so sure what it's like
Plasmatize Hmm, not a bad comparison, but Pulp Fiction had likable characters and entertaining dialogue. This one tries to make you think it's plot is important when it's not.
That's an actual pretty damn good comparison.
Moon of Mayhem You would be correct. In particular, Baccano is pretty similar to Pulp Fiction. It's a bunch of crazy and likable characters, that usually happen to be criminals in one way or another, in multiple different stories that all converge in the end. Baccano is without a doubt one of my favorite anime. Also, if you watch it, I absolutely recommend the dub. It's set in 1930s New York, and the dub nails that old time gangster movie feel.
I'd really love to see the top 10 of Arkada's "this mothe****ker" list
I honestly loved all of Durarara. Izaya is definitely one of my favorite characters, same with shizuo, and simon. U should definitely watch the rest because there is a lot to like.
Yeah Durarara is awesome
lol ,idk why but Izaya is my favorite character in Durararararara
THE KING Meruem Because he’s the character that keeps things going, keeps the ball rolling. He’s the one with the interesting personality and the one that creates most of the problems- or he at least has something to do with them.
Also his voice is just perfect in both English dub and the Japanese version.
I ❤️ Izaya 😂
@@jaimoo5028 Correct. In fact he's the reason why Celty and her mare/bike are in Japan in the first place as "Spoiler Alert" he was the one who desecrated Celty's grave and stole her head, along with her family's sword when he went to Ireland. It's safe to say Celty like Shizuo hates Izaya and distrusts him despite the fact they work for the same gang heck she even types/tells him if she wanted to she would reap his soul and send him straight to the Inferno, but she doesn't cause he's the only one who knows where her head, and her family's sword is and Izaya much to Celty's annoyance, and anger keeps flaunting to her the fact she can't reap his soul because doing so would mean she loses her one real lead on the location of her head, and her family's sword.
@@derrickhaggard woah i didnt know all this stuff, im guessing its in the light novel. but thats awesome, thank u
In my opinion, a lot of the coincidental meeting and such at least, if not the whole dynamic of their friendship/rivalry, can be mostly explained by the existence of Izaya, since he is almost always the one pulling the strings, and intentionally sets up a lot of those 'coincidental' situations. He is causing them, so it's not quite as crazy~ But of course there is a limit to what anyone info broker can control from the shadows, so there still are a lot of uncanny things unlikely to happen likewise. And it does improve in season 2, by the way. But, I digress, because even though it is my favorite anime of all time, and I personally love the dynamic between Mikado, Anri, and Masaomi, and all the tension it causes. All the characters and their interactions are great in my opinion. I do realize that it's definitely not for everyone, you have to have a certain taste to enjoy it~ And I am probably biased as well, because there might have been times that the only reason I continued watching was because of said 'hated' antagonist that I loved the show for. It's not that he was the only character that I liked, I absolutely love every single character, but the story did have it's low points, so if not for him, I might not have liked it quite as much~
Aaaaand, shame shame, what a hypocrite we have here, for all the times he complains about needing an ending, and that being the most important part, he wouldn't even give the second season a chance! Don't you love how bias affects people? I mean, he wouldn't even give a proper review on the characters and soundtrack! And besides that, he totally missed the point of the show, and even disliked said point because of lack of understanding! It is only his opinion, some just do not like, but as a review he should at least be professional.... isn't that interesting~
wtf this is only season 1 and not x2
Why the Makoto hate? He's the best part of School Days.
Yeah, his "part" was so good that his girlfriend decided to remove it and keep it as a pillow.
Hopefully you mean the Makoto from Durarara, because the Makoto of School Days most certainly did do several things wrong. And one of them killed him for it.
Samuel Silvestre yeah, and neither did George bush
What??? The nice boat isn't the best part???
Never clicked a review so fast
tomi ogbaro same this anime is in my top 3
tomi ogbaro I was like Fina fuckin lly
Disappointing, wasn't it? How sad, he wouldn't even give the rest a chance~ Shame shame on him, I do say~
I personally adore Durarara!! and find none of the flaws that you mentioned, but at the same time, I'm way more lenient with flaws than most people I know, so it's no big deal.
I ignore all flaws and give anime I like 10/10 and anime I don't 8/10 - Average MyAnimeList user
+Pixy Wings Just rated Cowboy Bebop a 0/10.
I can't tell if you're insulting me or if that's how you personally rate anime. Either way, okay. Rock on.
he's insulting you
I am with you.
People should learn how to appreciate anime instead of criticizing. Every anime has its limitations, the most important part in watching anime is that whether we can get ''what it intends to offer us'' and whether we enjoy it. Any flaws is acceptable as long as it doesn't affect our enjoyment.
Besides, the flaws also make the anime ''what they are''. They are a part of the identity of that anime. And whether their is no definition of a flaw either. For example, the art style of Aku no Hana is recognized as a flaw by a lot of people, but I love it, so it doesn't count. Anime are like ''half art, half entertainment'', therefore appreciate the art and have fun with the rest.
In other words, Congratulation !! you are one of those guys who actually love anime and know how to have fun!! :D
I watched all the 4 seasons .. Durarara is better than Baccano.
Season 1, Shou, Ten 7/10 and Ketsu 4/10, beats an 9/10, sure love that math.
Pixy Wings 9/10 based on what?! And PLEASE tell me your top 3 fav Anime of all time, please.
Marouane Tadlaoui Why does favorite matter when we are talking about top series? I don't like Free! yet I still gave it a 8/10, as it had great animation and told a great story of friendship and finding oneself. but wasn't interested in swimming. I enjoyed Rainy Cocoa yet gave it a 3/10, because of weak characters and episodes cutting off literally mid-sentence as it was a 24 minute episode chopped into 2 minute episodes with zero regard for even finishing a sentence let alone thought.
Why is there this assumption that I have to like good shows or that shows I like are good. Angel's Egg is a brilliant movie that I was bored by, does this give me validation not to give it a 10/10 though, certainly not.
+Pixy Wings
So 9/10 based on "your opinion" !! Well I DON'T GIVE A FUCK.
Based on MYANIMELIST which is a great website, and it's better than you for sure .. Baccano 8,54/10 and Durarara 8,38/10.
If you love Baccano, good for you, just stop acting like you're Masamune Shirow, I prefer Durarara over Baccano, and both of 'em are not even on my top 20, it's a matter of taste. Peace out.
Marouane Tadlaoui Well then I guess you agree Sword Art Online is a 7.83 only 0.55 point behind Durarara which dips down to 8.12 in x2 making only a 0.29 difference thus making SAO very good.
Dragon Ball Z is a 8.32 making it better than any of x2. One Piece's 8.58 makes it better than all of Durarara.
If you are gonna use MAL's ratings as validation then you are going to have a lot trash rated higher than the shows you are trying to defend.
Wait, he didn't see x2?
Oh man, he doesn't know about Akane, Aoba or Vorona. Fuck, he doesn't even know about "Rumors only last 100 days".
Wasn't it 70 days? I can't remember 100% but i think it was 70.
Maybe. Not that it matters that much. Point is that that episode is great.
gbrincks dont forget the twins or akebayashi
gbrincks Don't forget that random brother of an guy of the blue gang. The Izaya's hater that manipulates the protagonist too.. Too much.. Sub..Plots >
I loved this show so much. I guess i see how you could see it getting overcomplicated, but personally I liked that.
Holy shit, seeing your favourite anime youtuber trash talking one of your favourite series, treating as a unfinished standalone despite the presence of 36 more episodes and as a worse version of another series from the same author, all in a quite shorter video than usual, was harder than I thought.
I mean.... I don't disagree with it being similar to baccano but worse..... But that does not say much when baccano is some of the best animation to ever be created. I loved durarara and so did my friends who watched it with me, it's a great anime to just have some friends around, have some laughs, maybe a drink or two and have a great time with
I Feel Like This Anime Is Quite Underrated...
i love izayah, he's the kind of ass hole who knows he is an ass hole, and actively revels in it. The perfect villain.
Deadi22 Izaya is one of my few 'love at first sight' characters that I still like even after knowing they are shitty people. it's more like, at first I was like "must you really be an antagonist with a face so fine?" then after watching the series I went to "...I am surprisingly okay with this".
japzone yeah, he doesn't quite have an 'evil' focus, he just seems to like watching interesting scenarios, and if you so happen to die in said scenario...well...for him you just did.
It gets a lot better in the later seasons.
Armon Aryaie it really doesn't.
nah, not really, but the ending is solid tho, not gonna lie. a bit overcrowded tho
Durarara season 2 was honestly hard to finish because there were so many new characters and so many different sub plots happening at once that it just got confusing and hard to keep up.
AnimeFlyz yeah, especially the lady with the super saika blade and the martial arts folks. they and some others were kinda left out.
Jack Dullboy Thank god I am reading the light novels and they will most likely make it was easier to follow. Although Volume 4 wasn't really that good.
I don't understand this insistence on their being a definitive ending at the end of a season when there is another season to the show. This is like judging a book by each individual chapter instead of the story overall. Also, have you ever seen this attitude being used on any shows other than anime?
At long last. I can die happy now.
+Sloan The Female Otaku
Me too.
He doesn't seem to like it tho, how does that make you feel?
uhhh... He kinda 'meh'd it. I personally love Durarara!!, and won't let his opinion sway my own, but what 'bout you?
DeadCore Doesn't matter to me. I just wanted him to review it.
+Mad Panda
Regardless on what his final verdict is, I still love this anime. Hell, Durarara!! is my favorite anime, ever.
The novels are SO MUCH BETTER. If someone's reading this right now, please read the novels. They're amazing and you can find them online for free ❤ Anime butchered everything basically. I was the most dissappointed with izaya's characterisation in anime cause his novel characterisation became one of the most interesting ones i have ever seen and forever changed my way of creating characters. I swear it's like they cut out everything good about his character in anime. For example, they took away all his emotional moments and never mentioned that every single suicidal person izaya had a chat with changed their mind and didn't kill themself after all. The Rio girl was never even there and the 2nd episode didn't happen in novels at all, it was entirely fanon and i really don't know why since the novel version of events was so much more interesting. I guess they just really wanted to make him seem like a stereotypical sociopath. Mikado's characterisation also suffered but yeah i'll just end it here. Durarara novels are fenomenal though, 9/10. Anime as a stand alone would probably get 6/10 but as an adaptation of novels it's 3/10 from me 😊
Lmao thanks, I guess this is a sign for me to start reading the novels. So maybe that's why some parts of the anime seemed way too forced and rushed, they cut off a lot of the good parts, didn't they? :v
You kinda need to watch the other seasons to get the full picture... But, yes the second half was bad. Music on point though.
Baccano is forever amazing and I hope it will get it's deserved second season anything is possible now. I just won't watch the subs cause the english cast just did a better job.
I personally think that second season is kinda ridiculous and not in a good way. Kinda boring especially halfway, a couple of characters that never got much to do, but the second season ending was pretty good imo.
i don't think baccano needs a second season. besides the final episode already kinda made the point that stories have no beginning or end, it just kinda goes along.
Jack Dullboy Actually, the first season of Baccano is literally the first arc. There is way more to expand upon. When they use to have the light novel to read I read it and it goes on to tell each character story and how they still connect what happens after the mortal characters die. First season was just the tip of the iceberg. Like Drrr it needs more seasons to flesh more out.. It can stand alone with just the first arc, but it would be great to see the rest play out.
Snow Anaya really? huh, idk, it just felt... um how do I say this... it felt kinda wrong if they make a season 2 for baccano. because in the anime the vice president said that stories don't have beginnings or ends, there are no main characters, it's a collection of continuous stories that goes on. that's why I felt satisfied with the end.
now the problem here isn't the "more season" kinda deal. it's more of how they should end it. Drrr for example had a pretty decent ending for season 1, but season 2 ending blew it out of the water. why? because Drrr had the balls to actually make audiences think that mikado was going to kill himself. Mikado up to that point was already an unorthodox main protagonist, he's innocent and yet batshit crazy at the same time. It would have been extremely mindblowing (see what I did there?) and really refreshing if they actually went along with killing himself, the gunshot at the second to last episode actually caught me off guard. but then they pulled a deus ex machina and everybody's fine. (which I completely understand, it's hard to kill your main characters) Thus making the second 2 not as good as it could've been, but still a lot better than first season ending.
Baccano would have to do the same, it would have to make an ending so good that it make the first season ending seem like child's play. at least that's my personal take on it. sorry for the long wall of text and my lack of knowledge of the light novels.
That's a pretty understandable reason as to why it doesn't need a second season, but knowing future arcs in the Baccano light novels a second season (if adapting the novels properly and choosing a good arc to end things on) could quite possibly blow the season 1 ending away (the first season adapted like the first 3 books completely, but also adapted pieces of other books and mixed it all together compared to DRRR which strictly did 3 books for the first season, then 10 for the second).
Also, it's definitely worth reading the novels. Not just because they're -finally- being released by Yen Press, but also to continue the overall story and watch how much better it continues to get.
Snow Anaya I really enjoyed the Saika arc.
your intro are getting so much cooler and better love your channel
Wait, More Isaac and Mira!? I thought that was joke because Baccano also had a difficult to pin down main character but if there is more "Isaac and Mira" that's reason enough to watch Falalala lalala!
Heemin Gamin Station Oh damn, didn't know you watched Arkada Heemin
Heemin Gamin Station They're in the show for only a couple of (amazing) scenes though.
Some say that Arkada is still Rararara-ing to this very day......
I don’t care what anyone says, I think 95% of Durarara is a masterpiece including X2
Woah two doses of Arkada in one week, it truly is Christmas
Is the Review Week (of Awesome) :D
yeah I been watching your reviews for a decade! keep up the awesome work! u hv been my go-to reviewer forever
I could never get into this series 😕
K1NG~KELDEO it's understandable. the first time I watched it I got bored ep 1 and dropped it for a year. I recently got back into though.
same. i barely managed to force myself through all of s1 and it was by far one of my worse experiences with anime
***** the awesomeness of an anime is purely subjective. For example, I have seen many places where Arkada's much loved Baccanno is hated, and someone else who claimed that out of the 200 anime he watched, Sword Art Online was the best (even though I think, if this his true, all his other anime are below average )
Eternal Rivals I personally loved it, not only that but I even told one of my friends to watch it and he loved it too, heck even my little bro likes it, everyone just has different tastes.
Watch English version if your lazy to read subs like me
1:43 - "where to begin"?!?!?!
HOW ABOUT YOU BEGIN WITH THE MOST BAD-ASS OPENING IN THE HISTORY OF ANIME?!?!?
*BLOW UP LOUD*
Again after 3 years I’m gonna say something very controversial:
The second opening is better !
I love how you are able to analyze every anime in such a precise way!!
Please make a review of Kimi ni Todoke next!
Review Blast of Tempest- Zetsuen no Tempest
Luciano Bradley love this show!
Luciano Bradley I loved the show but the ending was kinda weird..
Needs a dub.
YES Issaic and Miria are the main characters of Durarara!!
Finally someone who feels like me about this show, about the second season, the feeling is worse, First. They gave a voice actor to Celty which ended up making her an interesting character, the story seems to be building for a big finale, so at the end nothing happens is incredible, I've seen bad endings before but I've never had the Feeling that it was all a great waste of time
You have no idea how long I've been waiting for you to do this one XD
Dude, I was waiting for a review like this for this anime, I love it, keep going dude, I love it, subscribed!
Honestly after seeing the following seasons I feel like the story was written that way on purpose, because Durarara S1 is really just a very long prequel, and the story truly starts in the following seasons. Those who continued the series and watched the following seasons were fans who got through the 1st season and saw it's potential and knew they wouldn't be disappointed.
I personally find this series far better than Baccano and I think it's unfair to try to compare the two series, one reason it failed for me was because the level of gore in Baccano meant I ended up not being able to watch some of the best scenes because they were too graphic for me to handle and to me seemed unnecessarily excessive, and the second reason is that Baccano when re-watched is tedious and I find myself skipping a lot of it when re-watching. Between the gore and the tedious storytelling I only watch a fraction of the actual show. And for me a show that cannot withstand multiple viewings without loosing the audiences interest is not worth the time.
For me what Makes Durarara amazing is Izaya lol he is one of my favorite characters XD
Ok your intro introducing everyone sounds like the newspaper boss from baccanno. Love it
Do you have any plans on reviewing season 2 of Durarara?
Arkada, please do a review on:
Welcome to the NHK
The Tatami Galaxy
Ping Pong: The Animation
Space Dandy
Parasyte -the maxim-
Hahaha Izaya is awesome :D i love how some people hate him so much :D
Hey Arkada, this review got me wondering: What do you think about Guy Ritchie films then?
arkada honest question what's your opinion on magical girl anime and do you take review suggestions for after the RWOA
Booya, three minutes ago. xD
I feel like Durarara!! ending period lies antithetic to its storytelling. The way it was set up robs us of a satisfying ending regardless of the execution. If the coincidence factor bothers you .. it's going to get a whole lot worse after season 1.
Behehehehehe! :3
omg lol
My Favorite Anime of All Time.
I also love Baccano!, too.
Agree my friend. Agree
legend says to this day, arkada is still saying: "rarararararararararararararararararararararararararararararararararararararararararararararararararararararararara...
I watched the first episode and was super confused so I dropped it, but now that I know Durarara!! has Izik and Miria?!?!?!?!
I'm fucking marathoning that shit.
ALso, yes, Durarara is convoluted by times.
I do hope you end up reviewing X2 at some point. As some one who really _loves_ this show, I really wonder if X2 will or will not make you feel better.
Maybe next year's RWoA?
It's funny, because the second half is actually what got me hooked.
funny thing, I'm like the opposite. I felt that drrr season 1 was better than season 2, but season 2 had a pretty solid ending tho.
I feel as though season 2 explains the problems he had with season 1 plotwise, so it definetly helps with explaining things
When I said "second half" I meant the second half of the first season, like Arkada.
As for whether I like the second season better or not... Well I don't like to value it in parts. X2 simply does not work without the first season. I have to judge it as a whole.
You should re-make the Baccano review! Baccano is one of my favorite series (and if not my favorite) and it definitely deserves more recognition :D
I love Durarara and I respect any ones opinion if they don't like it but Arkada kept on mentioning Baccano and I've been wanting to watch it but I don't know where, could someone tell me please?
I haven't watch bacanoo should I watch it?
Mr. AM yes
NO
I respect that you have a different opinion than I do and I can see what you are talking about but I feel the need to argue one point. Although there are coincidences and the big one being that Mikado, Masaomi, and Anri are friends and the three opposing forces of the gang war. I feel like the second half of the first season is really one thing. To me it is not a mass of coincidences but Izaya being bored and wanting to mess with everyone. Throughout the season he has a chess board out with pieces that he has laid out and clearly is moving them around. In my opinion some of the coincidences were not coincidences at all but a carefully crafted series of events that Izaya manipulated for his own pleasure. This is just my opinion but if you have a different one please let me know.
I LOVE your wall art!!! MaybI ask where you got the evee evolution poster?
Can I watch durarara first? Then Baccano? I'm already 12 episodes in & don't want to start something else lol
I used to like ur reviews even before I knew how to create an acount to comment in your vids. And when I finally did u changed to a very wierd thing. I have seen durararar before I saw this vid and after seeing it I am really shoked, none of what u said even related! It is like you only watched it with a prior idea to compare it with the author's other anime!
Why would you do that! It is like you were pushing it on us and frankly that didn't seem convencing giving the fact that you wasted half of that time comparing the two anime other than reviewing it first and then complaining as much as u want if you had to.
Sorry for this comment if it was harsh although I dought anyone will read it now anyway. I really wish I had commented on a better vid of yours but that's how it was. Free advice if you would accept it, try to watch your earlier works. You know less about what you are talking about comparing to the younger you. Even 2006 fate satynight love of yours was more geunion .
Sorry English is not my first language
Abeer Albossany very accurate comment, honestly.
He went in with expectations of it being Baccano 2.0, and got disappointed it didn't reach HIS expectations- instead of taking what it was at face value.
He got in his own way in this review, but it happens to the best of us.
I thought X2 was better, because the best part about the series is the characters, and season 1 focuses too much on the kids. I've only seen the first part of X2 admittedly.
X2 had a lot more cool characters, but admittedly not all of them gets a role. I personally think season 2 is weaker. but season 2 has a pretty good ending if you ask me. so look out for that
Well season 2 did crush a ton of volumes and cut out some side stuff.
x2 Ketsu is the worst part of the franchise by far.
Probably because Season 1 adapts the first 3 books and the first 3 books focus on the kids? Book 1 is about Mikado coming to Ikebukero and being revealed as the leader of the Dollars, Book 2 is about the Saika blade and how its inside Anri, Book 3 is about the increasing gang wars and Masaomi being the leader of the yellow scarfs.
> Durarara!! is the paragon of pacing, up to the end of episode 12
> Blood Blockade Battlefront in recommendations section
{SPOILERS}> Blood Blockade Battlefront is the arch nemesis of proper story pacing
> Real funny, Arkada. Real funny, there...
You finally did the review waited for two months baths my fav anime
Yeah, I consider Baccano the closest I've come to watching a perfect anime.
Anime quality is like my 6th sense, I stopped watching the first season half way but continued after looking at the cover art for the later seasons. The later seasons make up for the second half of the first season in my opinion and while a series which could keep up with the level of awesomeness of the first half of season 1 would certainly be a 9/10 at least (Baccano is one of my favorite anime of all time) I'd personally have to rate it at 8/10 because despite it being a really good series almost all the way through, it did have that pretty major hickup in the logical progression of the story 13 episodes in.
~LONG RANT ABOUT HOW I JUDGE ANIME QUALITY~
The saying "don't judge a book by its cover" is frankly quite stupid considering that the whole point of the cover is to give a first impression of what the story is about but of course judging a book by its cover is not a simple art and depending on the story, the cover might not be enough to give the reader an understanding of what type of story it is. That being said for anime to determine what's good the idea is the same as with books, you start off by looking at the artwork and thinking about whether these characters; based off of their style and expressions, whether they're characters you'd enjoy as characters or if their apparent body language in relation to other characters gives off an impression of their relationship and if these character dynamics suit your preferences for story type. If you think you'll like the show then watch it. If this alone is enough to make you even somewhat confident that you'll enjoy the show then it's almost certain (unless the cover is intentionally misleading) that you'll like the show, if you're not sure then read the description and if it's too vague then watch the series until you get bored. Don't wait for a show to get good unless you can see some form of progress towards a point where it gets good, the 3 episode rule is used by anime veterans to get impatient anime newbies to not judge something too quickly although it only works for ~80% of anime so don't rely on it. Just watch for the signs of progression and if it seems to not be picking up the pace or at least giving hints that it will soon then drop the anime, a good anime wouldn't have a slow start without at least letting you know it gets better later on. If after reading the description you feel like the series won't be something you like then try reading a review, don't force yourself to sit through any episodes of a show you're convinced you won't like, 80% of anime is shit tier and there are too many people who think they're experts on anime because they've watched 100% of all anime. If your diet consists of 80% shit and 20% gourmet dishes then you can't call yourself a connoisseur, real connoisseurs know how to judge good food from bad food by the smell and the appearance, even delicacies which are known to smell horrible can be judged to taste good from the horrible smell and judged to taste bad from a different horrible smell without even taking a bite, even the plain food fish in particular has a very distinct smell which my mom finds disgusting but yet she likes the taste, meanwhile she can easily smell when it's spoiled due to the similarly disgusting smell having its own distinct stinky elements which reveal that it's spoiled. Also ingesting copious amounts of shit has a tendency to ruin your sense of taste, that being said, if you think a show won't be good then reading a review from someone else can either confirm your suspicions or give deeper insight into the nature of the show to help you develop a better opinion on it with which to make an informed decision on whether or not to watch it. If after all that you still can't decide whether it's good or not then just watch a different anime, as you watch other series, some which have similarities to other anime which you've considered in the past you'll slowly learn to develop a better understanding of what an anime is all about from things as simple as cover art and the description. You will likely even subconsciously make up your mind on series you were previously undecided on and decide to go back to them, It took me until 500 episodes into the series to make up my mind on Case Closed (Detective Conan) although the English dub voice acting was in my opinion so much better than the Japanese voice acting in terms of the character's personalities and the overall mood in conjunction with the story type that I couldn't bare watching past where the dub ended and now I just read the manga. Also Trigun was a series which I originally thought was gonna be boring (some people still might think it is though) for 3 years before I gained a better understanding of the way genres mesh together and became curious due to the main character's style being uniquely different than characters which I'd typically associate with Trigun's mesh of genres.
Gosh dang it what is that purple thing on the poster to your right, Iv'e always wondered XD
I know I’m a year late, but I gotta agree now after watching all of the episodes again the whole saika thing becomes crazy. It does really weave a narrative that engages you tho
DRR Opening 2 one of the greatest openings ever
As someone who watched all seasons purely for the entertainment (i.e Shizuo going nuts, Kadota's gang wrecking shit, Izaya trolling and Celty and Shinra cuteness) and honestly cannot understand why people love this series so much - seriously, the writing is so mediocre, there's hardly any plot to speak of, the actions of the characters are often questionable, and at the end of it all nothing even seems to have a point to have happened -
I am curious to see what Ark has to say about it.
Man I feel like he's gonna say it's good though...
Okay I've watched it. He summed it up pretty well. My sentiments exactly (at least in regards to the first season).
Yes ! Waited so long for this review from you :D
About time! So happy your reviewing one of the best animes of all time! Thank you so much.
What I find really weird is that you talked more shit about durarara than Tokyo ghoul root a yet you gave durarara a stream it but Tokyo ghoul root a a skip it
easily one of the best anime I've watched
I feel sorry for you.
Lol somebody had to make a smartass comment. That's cool though
Afro Shinobi one hundred percent agree with it being one of my favorites, easily.
I have been waiting forever for this review!
Just discovered your channel and I really enjoy it! Definitely subscribing!
I have never seen durarara, and after watching your video about it...
I'm even more confused what the f this show is about
It's good, just don't stop watching after you complete the first season.
Kinda like how you're supposed to watch the first season of CLANNAD then the second season. If you just stop after the first then it's really meh. Then you watch the second season and then you're like "Yo, that shit was pretty good."
Also as to what it's about.
The closesest thing I could accurately put into words is that the show is about secrets and how it ultimately effects you, your friends, and if serious enough, your city.
Sure there's a bunch of serious, goofy, and some stupid scenes but that's what it all boils down to.
Dont watch it. Read the light novels instead to save time.
To be honest, the whole show feels like someone watched Fight Club and thought to himself "it needs more smartphones and social media, kids on (fucking) highschool and a (freaking) mitological monster that's not even japanese" also "let's reference my other show on the hopes to tease people to think Baccano would have another season".
tomstonemale i dont read novels or manga
Now, listen closely
I dont either, but it kind of helps to read a bit from the source material instead of suffer 13 hours of an entire show if you dont trust reviewers opinions
tomstonemale idk i never liked reading that kind of stuff when you can just watch
Izaya is my favorite character of all time... he was so much fun to watch, the most epic troll of everything I ever encountered... like he wasn't just a standard troll... every atom in his body was troll face and it should be his fucking theme and run everytime he is on screen
I miss you talking about the soundtracks of shows, cause I always feel like thats a huge part of a show and can really help with setting and emotion
i have been waiting for this review for so long...
And I really hope that you review the second season..
For once, I actually completely agree with you. The second half really kind of turned to shit.
Durarara would have been 10 times the show had it been 12 episodes and ended before saika. It spent far too much time on boring teenagers instead of the intricate developed adults.
2 down, 3 to go
My Gosh this 5th RWOA is awesome, we will have JoJo at last !!! in less than 24 hours !!!
Eyyyy it's this show that looks really cool but i haven't gotten to finish cuz of other stuff coming out. Good to see you cover it. :P
Arkada, I know you like to hold a respective medium incarnation of a work to it's own merits but have you read any of the Baccano! light novels? they're awesome.
