What I like about him is that nobody really seems fazed when he does this cause it's normal for them
Durarara is one of those anime that I've always loved, but honestly could not figure out why. From a premise standpoint, it seems really...dull? But just, the way the characters interact, how everything intertwines, and how these characters are definitely hyperbolic, but *feel* real makes it such a good series.
Kokoro Drive it might be the characters.
All things considered, the story is meh, sometimes it's dull like you said, but the characters and atmosphere (not to mention the fantastic soundtrack) are so interesting and fun that it's just enjoyable to watch them.

This anime is one my favs, though I do understand why others might not like it.
I didnt like the ending of it, it was underwhelming
It takes a while to get good, Durarara is at its best when the web of relationships gets larger and interconnected, and more is revealed about the characters, and it's relatively slow start makes it hard for people to wait for the show to get into a good stride, and since a large portion of potential viewers came from it predecessors, Bacano which is a much tighter series overall it can seem like a step down when experiencing that slow start.
@@ZeaosIJJI in a way I think it would be weird if it had an extravagant ending, as Durarara really is the story of a slightly crazy city, we're to assume things go on after the ending and went on before the beginning
hey, could u list why people wouldn't like Durarara cause i don't know why i don't myself!! I like the characters and how creative the plot is but it didn't make me want to watch the second season!!
People like linear and straightforward plots more than non linear ones
I've probably watch all of Durarara around 5 times now, not because it's an all time favorite or anything, but because it's an engaging ride of character interactions. I just have a blast sitting down and watching the coincidences play out! Thanks to this, I might give it a 6th watch!

So glad you decided to talk about Durarara. I haven't seen this show in a long while and one thing I just love about it is how real the characters feel. They're all very distinct and have varying motivations that stem from a similar desire for happiness. It's a strange story that's told in a unique way. Also, you should check out the second season, Durarara X2 if you haven't already. It's also pretty cool and even has a couple dramatic moments I honestly didn't anticipate. Thanks for a cool video! Not to mention a very memorable soundtrack that always plays at just the right time to set the mood of a scene. There are some chilling themes that have really stuck with me.

That was my high school anime, a moment of crossroads, a feeling, a love letter to the randomness and urban life.
I love that all the episodes with narrators (which is most of them) are narrated by characters in the show and it changes from episode to episode. Fun things I noticed (doesn't apply to bonus episodes): each of the 7 main characters narrate at least once each season except Shizuo in season 2 (who's main character status is shaky). Mikado is the only character to narrate 2 episodes in a row and Mikado narrates the first and last episode of both seasons. Anri narrates the third to last episode of both seasons, Masaomi second to last, both of these narrate at least one other episode in both seasons. The first season's narrators is largely Mikado, Masaomi, and Celty so much so that Anri and Shinra are the only others to narrate more than once at twice each. In the second season no character narrates twice in the same arc and only shinra narrates once in each arc, with Mikado, Anri, Masaomi, Akabayashi, and Vorona being the only characters to narrate in even 2 of the arcs. No 2 episodes in a row are lacked a narrator. There are 3 instances of 2 narrators: Celty and Shinra, Walker and Erika, Mairu and Kurui. Each of these cases is different: Celty and Shinra narrate often; Walker only narrates by himself on a bonus episode (the only instance of a narrated bonus episode) while Erika narrates by herself in season 2; neither Mairu nor Kurui get any other narration roles. Celty you first hear as a narrator (though I do wonder if her voice is how everyone hears her considering extremely little of her communication is voice based). Finally Simon sound extremely different when narrating but Vorona does not (don't remember on Dennis) . (please note that I don't count any character as a narrator of s2 ep11 but it didn't lack one either)
Thank you for this. Durarara is my favorite anime. Ryohgo narita is a master doing these interconnected stories (just like he did with baccano!). I’m usually more like a romantic anime kind of girl but this anime is my all time favorite. You couldn’t have said it better, the way the small characters contribute to a larger than life story was something that drew me instantly. From time to time I feel like I have to rewatch it to better grasped the whole meaning to it. And I believe it gets better with every rewatch.

I watched this anime years ago and am only now seeing this video. We're like the same person haha, usually a romance anime girl myself but Durarara is my favorite anime of all time.

I literally just spent all day today binging durarara x2 for no reason then when I finish I see this. I haven't watch durarara for years before today. Coincidence
I really like that so many of the characters durarara focuses on don't have any special powers, they're just people. And yet the manage to hold the show up anyway and maintain my interest, so it doesn't ring hollow when the show tries to say that everyone in this city could have a complex story to tell.
I finished this anime in the summer after I heard you and several of my friends say you watched it. I really liked this series, it's plots were intertwined so well and all its characters were able have such cool dynamics with characters you would least expect. I think the series is still continuing in the light novels so it would be cool to see more.

This can possibly be one of the most well thought out anime’s of all time. It’s certainly one of the most intellectual in how everything is connected and it develops and that everything is purposeful, nothing is simply mundane

I respectfully disagree with your assessment but you are free to think whatever you like.
I think overall that Baccano is the much tighter series, Durarara's main appeal is seeing the extraordinary lives of seeming normal people like the main three teens as well as the normal lives of extraordinary people, however it takes a while to reach the point, and before the main three characters' big secrets are revealed to the audience they're kinda boring. Meanwhile I think Baccano makes better use of its time and never left me feeling bored or unengaged. Not saying I dislike Durarara, I've watched it multiple times, but I will admit that flaw.
Yea, Durarara has like more charisma than Baccano but, is really undisciplined and weaker as a "series" or story than Baccano. The unique charismatic perspective Durarara has though- makes it somewhat stronger than Baccano from the perspective of "art".

I just realized Izaya is a mix between the author and the viewers. The viewers are similar to Izaya by getting super hyped and super interested in watching how the characters react to what happens, while the author is like him, where he can sort of control the characters but like Izaya, (the author also can't completely control them without messing with their character or creating a poorly written story so that's another parallel to Izaya)

It’s not only the unpredictability and dominos in DRRR that we all enjoy, in my opinion the idea that every small piece is part of a bigger picture plays a significant role within the show.

Made the mistake of watching baccano before durarara. Well I guess it wasn't a mistake because i enjoyed baccano immensely. Anyway, when i got around to durarara, i just couldn't enjoy it the same. I wish i could though. Dropped it halfway.

Drrr is one of the best anime ever! I especially recommend it to people interested in people in general and social dynamics.
I have two lists in my head for anime: One is for the shows that I love and objectively think are amazing and the other is and one list for the shows that I love but see some objective flaws. Drrr is one of those shows that keeps jumping between those two lists and that's why I love it.

When i first watched Durarara it took me by surprise and i loved it but i was dissapointed by the ending and i really can't rewatch the series as enjoyable as i can others even though Izaya is my favourite anime character other than Lelouch

i've tried to watch this show like 4 times since its release til now and never finished it, bc im bad with understanding this type of anime... deadass only watched it for Celty cause i had a helmet like her's. im finna try watching and actually finishing it, TODAY WILL BE THE DAY!!
i did the saame, well i just stopped midway the thrid season during its released and forgot to go back to it. I think the ending was fitting ,it wasn't one that left you wanting more like most endings do.did you finish?

I explained that in my descriptions for each show in my MAL list. S1 is the best IMO. Everyone is different though and the others weren't terrible.

No matter how many blank and grey civilians you see, no matter how often it likes to take a break and introduce s quiet scene along with relaxing music that plays at times, sooner or later the show will fall right back into its violent theme, coz that's just part of the enjoyment of the series.
