My boyfriend Israel Medina was his bass player. Rozz was devastated when his very close friend, Eric died (possible accidental OD). I answered the phone when Gitane called the house to tell Israel that Rozz died. Israel went into an emotional tailspin after that with Rozz’s service (yes there was a fairly large formal service) and many memorial gatherings around LA. It was a very emotional time for everyone. Israel eventually hung himself May 14. 1998. Broke my heart to the rest of my life.
This sadness haunts me this time of year, every year. That’s the missing piece to the story.
RIP to all of Eric, Rozz and Israel. Highly emotional, talented and passionate men.
PS: please don’t kill your self if you are depressed. You have no idea how much it hurts those who love you. People DO love you.
Wow my heart goes out to you I was gonna end it Jan 1st because my sister figure died she encouraged me to get into music and be myself now she'll never see me now and it's music keeping me going she deserves a tribute. Guess you never realize the chain reaction
And people often regret committing suicide. 🔺️
when people commit, it's not about those around them. it's about the person that tried to or successfully committed. as a person who has been resuscitated from a suicide attempt, please don't guilt trip those that commit. it's not about everyone else. it's about us. and that is something no one will ever understand. we don't take those actions ourselves, our depression does. it's a mental illness. i does hurt those around us, but it's about us. not them. if we're in a bad enough state, knowing we're loved isn't enough to pull us out. we're in so much more pain than those that would lose us are, which is why sometimes it's our only solution to end the pain.
Wow this was emotional. I wish you all the best
Suicide is still so poorly misunderstood. I don't like keeping count because I would prefer it would have friggin' stopped, but I've lost 8 friends to suicide by age 40 and for some reason, it's always in March and April. People who were immensely loved, brought joy and solace to others. But they could never solace themselves. Granted I don't have the suicide instinct but I've been on enough paths through hell to understand it. And while people will clamour that it's stupid and selfish, I understand their viewpoint. But they're not understanding the mental state someone is in when making that decision. Mind is literally not working in any of those realms whatsoever and you want the pain to cease, period. Because you see no escape from it, can't FEEL any possible escape from it.
Unfortunately, one of the first I lost, he too committed suicide on April 1st. And yes, we were all serious fans of Rozz, it doesn't surprise me to his mimicry as I figured many others would. He was a kind soul with a broad smile and an infectious giggle, very introverted, talented, and quite the philosopher as well. We all made instant phone calls to everyone when we got the news Rozz was gone, so it hit us all very deeply and still resonates to this day.
The one constant with all of my friends that I lost, is that they were creatives and misfits. The kind of people the scene fostered many of, let's be honest. It's not easy being creative in such ways. Yes, it produces something which lets the rest of us relate to our pain, pleasure and every grey speck in between, but the artist has it tortured out of them. I try to take note when enjoying another's art, regardless the form to understand when it possibly is indeed coming from a dark place of existence. I would never ask that as the price from anyone to enjoy art, but nonetheless I will say that I am so very grateful. And to that, very grateful to Rozz for everything he made that I fell upon as a teenager. It led me to a passage in life that brough experiences I will never forget and will always cherish with stories I can tell others to listen in awe and wonder. Being in the scene back then I consider a special time, and Rozz was certainly one of the angelic devil saints of that movement at the time.
I still remember when I first heard Christian Death when I was a senior in high school (2009) when I started to really try and get into Goth music. I admit that I wasn't really into them at the time but a few years later I gave them another try and I actually had came around to their sound. I eventually fell down the rabbit hole to learning about Rozz Williams and Eva O and I was so sad to learn that he committed suicide because he seemed like such an interesting and creative soul. And as gender nonconforming man myself, he became a bit of an inspiration as well since it was nice to find another man (other than Pete Burns at the time) who owned being gender nonconforming. I really do wonder what caused him to commit suicide and I hope that wherever he is, he's at peace.
Great video, thank you both for dedicating a video to him.
New Eva performance ruclips.net/video/_Rb9jS6scHg/видео.html
@kai I'm gender nonconformist as well. I didn't know Rozz was too, thanks for the info.
I remember the day he died. A friend called me, it was like a cult around him here in México City, still is a little bit. He is such an influence in my life. I hope some day I get a visa and go to this place. Awsome video, he is one of the most spectacular minds.❤
Thanks for this video!
I remember Rozz back in 1982, Rodney on the Roq used to play his music.
You should do a video about Darby Crash, lead singer of The Germs. ( I know he has nothing to do with horror. But still. He is from L.A.)
I think nobody has done a "death/grave" video on him. So I think you guys will be the first. He died by suicide and buried somewhere in L.A.
I second this idea!
Yes be nice.
He was a funny, kind man. I met him a few times in 87. I wish he was still with us.
Gotta keep up with the hexercising!! 😂 I remember hearing of his passing in the 90's. I was 21 in 1998. Ooo boy does time fly!! Love the content guys. Looking forward to the next one! 👻🎃👻🎃
Baby ghouls commentary always hits the spirit. Beautiful soul he was, and the lucious mane of course. Lovely video you guys 💜🖤
Happy Halloween!!!@
Pig is one of the most bizarre films I've ever seen and I've seen it all
Cool video guys. I'm something of an old school Goth, Bauhaus and Christian Death being my favourites so this was both interesting and sad for me. I appreciate it. Tnx.
Im goth thanks for this video still listen to them .
I've been listening to Christian Death since about 89 and I saw him perform with Gitane Demone about a year or two before he died. I didn't have a computer at that time so I found out about his death from a local weekly paper. He had some addiction issues and his roommate, who was also a good friend of his, has stated that Rozz would surround himself with people that would use him for his fame and he would fall in love with straight men who did not return his affection. He was surrounded by friends who did love and care about him but at the same time you get the sense that he felt alone and isolated.
He struggled with depression... He had his demons, and fell on the wrong men....
It's so sad, he committed suicide 😞
He was so talented.....
Michael you were too young for Christrian Death
many famous queer men were used in the 80s by cis straight vampires.. its hard for Romantics to live in this world, we tend fall in love with people who do not reciprocate or we fall in love with people we never shouldve been connected to. we tend romantisize attention, external validation, drugs and alcohol to feel the void feeling unloved and cared for..
@@ceevishus4130y described it exactly as it is. I have seen it happening quite a few times and its a great pity whenever it does happen- to think of it, it happens all the time to all of us, thanks to those who manage to get what they want no matter the damage inflicted upon the others.
I also heard he learned he was HIV positive before he died and struggled with the idea he might have passed it onto his lovers. Very much a disease associated with gay men and brought a huge stigma. Rozz was not openly bisexual and was still in the closet to people who only knew him as a singer in a band. Putting him in a really difficult situation of being forced to openly admit the illness and his sexual orientation all at once to properly confront it. I think he just took the easier way out of a situation that may have ended the same way regardless for him.
To be honest the story is, Eva and Rozz officially divorced prior to his death and their relation was at the end of a so called mutual partnership, the messages on his phone where from myself planning to see a film the next day with him, and probably others he called the last night before he committed suicide. Although most of his ashes were spread in the Franklin Hills right off his street into the hills, the last night before we spend together drinking sake at the old Errol Flynn tennis court. At his memorial in Hollywood Forever Cemetery I put some of his remaining ashes given to me, among one of his artworks and poems for his memorial for people to visit. In loving memory, Nico B All truth is parallel, and therefore all truth is untrue. R.W.
Interesting, since Eva O has said that Rozz chose death over her...
@husq48 Rozz had a multitude of stuff going on - particularly health worries and major anxiety.I wish he could of held on as he was a very rare soul.
Don’t make up shit

Would love to see something on Peter Steele from Type O Negative since October is right around the corner. October Rust!
Yesss!
Yeeessss
Me too! I would love that💚🖤
Yes I think I mentioned that to them some time ago going to New York and seeing his tree that would be amazing
Been to Pete's grave and saw them many times in Detroit. Very lucky to see him before his untimely death.
Rozz Williams doesn't get the credit he so richly deserves. Thank you for creating this video. 1334 forever.
I know right, it's a shame that Valor continues to use The name Christian Death for his personal gain ! 🤬
@@slimjim23 Valor is a POS. He is not Christian Death, but he needed the name recognition because he wasn’t getting anywhere without it. I absolutely hate that man.
EXACTLY. THIS FRUITCAKE ROZZ IS AMAZING. OG GOTH. All fools after should bow to this niggggga and ask for his forgiveness for being total poseurs !
RIP ROZZ !!!
All credit goes to Valor.
Hail Valor!
I saw Rozz with Christian Death at a goth club in Hollywood called Helter Skelter, And I've seen Shadow Project many times. Great bands. ☠
May Rozz rest in peace.
There is a new, enhanced updated version of his poetry book, And What About the Bells, coming out this year, 2023. It features my exclusive interview with his friend, roommate and collaborator, Ryan Wildstar. Ryan and I are very excited to see the book released to a wider audience and to have Rozz recognized as the poet that he was.
I saw the cabinet at the museum of death and my heart dropped, my bf is a huge fan of his and seeing him witness that was honestly gut wrenching and we didn’t expect that to be there, I found it interesting yet eerie
I knew the man. Met him back in 1995 when we opened for him at the Variety Arts Center in downtown LA. We were sad about what happened. 😔 we got to open for him due to touring with Eva. I was a bit overwhelmed by his death.
Love that you covered his story, I've read about him multiple times and no matter how many times I read through his life it continues to fascinate me.
THANK YOU for this very accurate and thoughtfully done tribute to Rozz Williams and the real goth scene from back in the day. To most people under 40, “goth” is a lost concept and they seem to equate it with wearing Hot Topic-style cheap black gear, acting over-the-top miserable, and liking music that I would consider to be Emo or something else. It’s refreshing to see something like this that doesn’t make me cringe, but rather, it brings back so many happy memories of good times with awesome people, dancing to amazing music.
I knew a few kids who were into goth and knew of rozz Williams, he wasn't bad and I'm so glad there is a place to pay respects and that he is loved and remembered. You guys did absolutely amazing by him💜💜
Romeo’s distress is my favorite song, from Christian death ✌🏼🥀
Another great video 🤳👏🏼
yes! Great song🖤🖤
Great video!!! Rozz Williams toured the UK with Gitane Demone back in 1995 and my band was lucky enough to open for them in Manchester (At a venue where Joy Division cut their teeth in their early days).. Even luckier I was able to meet Rozz and talk with him a little and get his signature, ect... He was obsessed with Alice Cooper and that day constantly talked about him and his stage show (ironically in particular the hanging part of his show back in the 70s, I didn't give a thought and in hind site that kinda blows my mind).. That day seems like only yesterday in my mind..
It seems a lot of the goth bands were into Alice Cooper. Alien Sex Fiend, Lords of the New Church, 45 Grave etc. So many bands got a lot of influence from Alice.
Damn being 51 and looking back on the music of that time. Great stuff.
B baff
Yes I agree with your words
I've been a fan since 1983
@@stephenlynch5143 Probably about the time my brother introduced me to them, ASF, Skinny Puppy, Psychic TV and the list goes on. Some bands stick others I kind of let go.
What's your band?
@@SlobZombie 13 Candles.
Some of the best bass lines are from this band.
It is always an especially sad thing to loose someone to suicide . I hope Rozz Williams has found peace even as he is kept alive by those who knew and loved him. I met a young lady at the hospital today and since she was having such a difficult day ,I started to chat with her . I found out she likes horror movies so I put her on to you two because I think it will give her something enjoyable to explore and take her mind off her troubles even for a little bit :) Happy Halloween :)
Jessica calling those white shirts "Poet Shirts" fits in with what I have always thought that those shirts are in tribute to the Romantic Poets like Byron and Shelly.
I have to admit that I didn't know who Rozz Williams was but this video is still fascinating. I always learn new and cool things in your content. And those views are gorgeous! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!💀💚🎃
Funnily enough, I originally found out about him through reading about Premature Ejaculation (his industrial project), heh
Rozz is so obscure to so many people. Yet he was essentially the poet-philosopher of the goth and deathrock movements in music, as well as an incredible visual artist and producer of experimental-industrial sound art. His influence is outstanding and he never gets acknowledged. Seriously.
It be cool to see you guys do a video on heaven’s gate house if it is even still there! That was a crazy documentary
Good to know! I am from the northwest and wife and I explore a lot of Northern California. Even though that is further south good to know though
We live about 15-30 min from that place. When my brother went to college and told his friends were he was from they were like asking about the Heavens Gate because it just happened at that time.
@@kandn420 that’s crazy I’d be the same asking all kinds of questions.
Christian Death was one of those bands I heard of in high school but weren't my cup of tea. I'm more of a punk at heart, and I learned that Rikk Agnew from The Adolescents played in an early iteration of the group. Cool you guys covered this. Will you be heading to Manchester on your future UK trip to see some historic Joy Division locations?
There is an AMAZING documentary on Rozz here on YT. Very informative and well done. There is also a limited hard cover book containing all of his work. " The art of Rozz Williams" eBay will get u a copy. We live 4 blocks from this apartment and often want to go knock on unit # 1 and ask them if they know who lived and passed there but we know this would be inappropriate to the current occupant BUT if they happen to be a fan it would be a great interview from INSIDE the unit and the bedroom!!! Someone who has real documentary credentials or just a fan willing to pay the occupant could work! Its not a fancy area or building so there is a good chance the occupant would be willing to let a camera inside for a few $s
YES!!!
That documentary was freaking amazing. Glad you mentioned it for those that did not know about it.
@chad muskaa what is name of the doc? Thank you 😊
@@Night_Shift_Sister If you go to YT and search ROZZ Williams Documentary it will come up. 😸

I've never heard of Rozz Williams, but I'm so sorry for how he died. Seems like a troubled soul. May he rest in peace.
You should get into his music it's beautiful and dark
Thank you sooooooo much for this beautiful video. 1334 forever. Rozz is beautiful
His book just came out!!! GET it!!
@@yourmom9828 who’s the author?
I was born the same day as ROZZ and weird enough my dad died the same year as Rozz also by suicide may they RIP
Damn! Sorry to hear about your Dad
All of the lipstick kisses on the glass made me really quite emotional. What a legacy he has left behind. Memory eternal Rozz.
I'm a casual fan of Christian Death (They come up on shuffle when I stream music) but knew nothing about the singer or his history. Hopefully hes at peace. Poor soul.
Any suggestions on which album or series of albums to start with?
Listen to their only original debut album called "Only theater of Pain". It came out in 1982 from Frontier records.
The rest after that is pure junk from a singer called Valor and countless reformed lineups.
Just my opinion.
@@john_from_eastcoast. That's the very album I clicked on. Thank you!
I was roughly two and a half weeks from turning 20 the day he died. I was a college sophomore exploring more of my goth side, so I knew of him and heard his music, but more so after his death than before. It always stuck with me that he died on April Fool's Day, and I'm not sure why I remember this one as well as I do. I was new to the music (but not the aesthetic).... I really don't know what to say.
Wow Rozz, don’t see many videos pop up about him, what a talented performer, died too young. Great work as always, keep on rocking!
Amazing well done video!, met Rozz and Eva back in 93 ,very amazing people, real down to earth individuals ...its a shame Rozz never conquered his personal demons 😪🖤
I remember buying Only Theatre Of Pain in 1982 & it was groundbreaking. What a terrific band Christian Death were & Rozz was so cool.
What beautiful architecture and omg stained glass ! Gorgeous.
Completely unrelated, but happy Senjutsu day!
Up The Irons
R.I.P. Rozz. Just played some Shadow Project. Still holds up very well today. Nice video as always!
I bought his records when he was alive ..he was playing in Sacramento ...that building he is buried in is beautiful and vintage
Seen him doing shows with 45 Grave
I don't know too much about rozz. I only had the first Christian Death album but it is a great album. Though I lot of that is also Agnews guitar playing. Which is incredible.
Visit Lemmy Kilmisters(Motörhead) old apartment, hang outs and grave!
ONLY THEATER OF PAIN : The BEST album ever recorded!!! PERIOD!
Ashes was an excellent record as well ..that record to me personally was a highly intelligent well orchestrated record, very creative on Rozz and Valor !
I just got a chrstian death vinyl! Rozz walked so that Manson could run 🖤
More like *crawl
Never clicked so fast. I saw the closet at the LA Museum Of Death at the time. Very eerie.
Rozz always struck me as a true artist's artist. I have so much respect for him. Thanks for making this video
Awesome awesome! I've been fascinated by him and the details behind his mysterious death since I discovered Christian Death from a boyfriend from Ventura I met my first year of college in 2004. I'm from Hawai'i born and raised and he exposed me to a lot of goth and industrial music from the LA area. (My father is from the Big Island of Hawai'i and my mother is from Redondo Beach, born in LA County Hospital in 1955, but she moved to the Big Island and met my dad in the mid 70s and so I've never had any type of connection to the era in LA rock music I have been so enamored with for 20 years now. So this is wonderful. Thank you!
He's such a huge inspiration. Even though I wasn't alive when he was. I'll always look up to his music, fashion, and art.
Always been a huge Rozz Williams and Christian Death fan.
Thank you for this video and for introducing me to the legacy of Rozz Williams. I go way back with rock music, punk, etc, but unfortunately not familiar with Rozz. He appears to be a more modern day Jim Morrison. I'm going to definitely listen to his music and read up on his life.

I love you're videos so very much! And Jessica your fashion sense is to "die for!" ❤ Seattle

Thanks for taking us on this visit, Rozz was an innovator and a legend who had a massive and largely unobserved influence on a lot of music and art that came after.
Go listen to only theater of pain.. such a great record.
Wow...I was in high school when I discovered Rozz and Christian Death and have been a fan since. I'm now 49 and I remember back in the day when I was a teen we always thought bands that were signed to a label were automatically rich and lived the rockstar glam life but in reality labels like Cleopatra, Metropolis, Metal Blade, etc. many of these bands were just normal people that lived normal lives and still had day jobs to make ends meet and pay rent and bills but the band status is all us young kids knew. Of course I learned and discovered this many years later as I got older and met and befriended many bands and I remember some people I knew always thought Rozz had a mansion because he was in the popular Christian Death and Shadow Project making big bucks but in reality I'm sure he was struggling not to mention having possible drug addictions and depression stuff many fans don't know about. So when watching this video and looking at his apartment where he died it proves lots of popular singers and musicians in bands work just as hard as everyone else and don't always have the luxury lifestyle. So sad we lost him and everyone else in his life. Great video brother! A+++ Thumbs UP as always and shared.
I used to work at Amoeba records in Hollywood. And we had to to keep an eye on the Goth vinyl because occasionally angry Rozz fans would come in and sneakily break the Valor LPs. I thought that was a bit annoying and lame but also kind of funny. By the way, there's a good interview here on RUclips with OC punk legend Rikk Agnew where he talks about the early days of Christian Death. it's under the heading 'Rikk Agnew & Eric Blair part 4 ( Roz Williams & Christian Death)' and he starts talking about Rozz at 26:50 into the video.
LOVE THIS! THANK YOU FOR SHARING1334, 666/777

Think of Rozz daily. I was lucky enough to see him perform a few times in NYC. His words were visual. He painted a picture everytime he spoke. I hope he knows how much he is missed.
Jessica you look so amazing Michael you always tell the life story right that what makes you both pretty amazing
Have you ever been to the filming locations of the monster squad? Would be awesome to see that.👍
Been watching your videos absolutely beautifully done. I’m one of millions that suffers with mental health issues so videos like this really strike home. Thank you love to you both from across the pond.
Thanks for not going on about your gender since it's the "cool thing" to do these days.
Rozz also had an Dark Ambient project called Premature Ejaculation of which Rozz said was his favourite project of the 3 he had with 17 physical releases. It was not his most well known project because of it being more of a performance art piece with controversial on stage antics so he had difficulty booking shows for it.
Hexercising, I likes that!
My friend and I worked together cleaning a college science building at night around ‘95. We’d always blast Christian Death on my little boom box. Hearing that iconic Rozz Williams voice brings back fun memories.

I actually met Rozz, back in 1994, got pictures with him, and written dedications; he was the kindest person ever and I will never forget it.
Yeah, his presence onstage was spectacular and yet so simple, (it seems to me without him even trying). A truly brilliant frontman. Sure theatre of pain is one of THE best debuts of that decade!
this was great, guys!.... very sad to hear how the man died-- you did a great tribute to him.... Thanks, again.... :^)"""""""
My dad was apart of the Goth/Death Rock scene in the 80s/90s. My dad went to many many many Christian Death shows in L.A. and Orange County. So cool to see this and document a man and band that isn’t well known unless you’re in the scene 🎃💀
Thank you for making this video and for telling Rozz's story .
I feel like he had the deepest lyrics in his genre of his time. Very artististic in style, dress and lyrics. God bless the dead 🕊️
His book was just released. Amazon
I met Rozz in Hollywood in the early 90’s. I saw him at the Christian death reunion concert, I think it was at a clue called Helter Skelter. I was taking a piss and he was next to me pissing as well. We talked for longer then I would have expected as we washed hands. I remember his charm and smile, he made an amazing impression on me. I’ll never forget it. Plus he put on an epic show that night! Fucking amazing.
He definitely influenced artist like Marilyn Manson
I've always wondered why musicians and comedians never make fun of Muslims.
I've never heard of him nor a fan of this type of music, thanks for this video cuz he looks cool as fuck
I was strictly into hardcore punk in the early to mid 80's (grew up in Charleston SC) and remember this deathrock kid from California who moved to Chucktown. He turned me onto Bauhaus and Christian Death. We were going to form a deathrock band from the remnants of my old hardcore band, but he moved back to California. Fast forward to the late 90's and heard of Rozz's passing and was bummed out. I still hope y'all do a video on the Masque. I'm pretty sure it hasn't been touched, being a landmark.
Check out early 45 Grave. Good og death rock
@@blackbeansmatter1280 Yep! Actually, I had the "Hell Comes To Your House" comp and saw 45 Grave on "New Wave Theater" when it played on USA's "Up All Night", and was familiar with Bauhaus (from seeing them in "The Hunger") prior to meeting Sean, the death rock kid. I just never listened to the genre much more than that. But yeah, 45 Grave rocks and their tracks on "Hell Comes To Your House" were my favorite.
@@blackbeansmatter1280 i remember 45 Grave!! I was a huge fan back around 1981. I remember their death society/fan club. They would send you a death certificate with your name on it and a photograph of the band.
