There are many old churches in the UK. The Church of Scotland is now selling a lot of theirs due to falling numbers in Church attendances. So many people now call ancient churches their home. Bet the pair of you would love to live in an ancient Church surrounded by ancient gravestones.
As a young child in America, I grew up watching old Hammer films. My favorite characters are Boris karloff as Frankenstein and the Mummy, Christopher Lee as Dracula and Lon Chaney as the Wolf man also know as the man with a thousand faces.. This was my fav era of life .. watching these old films. I miss it so much and I watch every time I get a chance. I love following you two into places I know. it's like going home. I know that sounds silly, but I miss them all.
Once again brought to tears by the respect, awe & appreciation you two have for the people & places you visit. Whether a horror, pop culture or infamous location. Your pieces keep the spirit of Halloween alive all the year long.
As a englishman who lives in norfolk (NE) of london,id just like to say 10/10 you captured rual england perfectly, beautifly done guys thankyou. As for the topic at hand, same again. Great video.
Hi guys, I’m English through & through & I love the country so much I have zero interest in travelling to other countries because I am confident that England is one of the most beautiful & mystical in the world. I am fascinated by its history & I adore the teeny tiny villages that are dotted all over. It’s like travelling back in time when you visit the really rural ones with buildings that date back to the eleventh century. I truly enjoy your awe & fascination at everything you both see as I share it too, even though I was born here & my family for centuries. Thank you for showing me some of the villages even I have not been too. Every corner you turn in Rural England there is an amazing secret waiting to be discovered 🙋🏻♀️😎
I’m British. It’s lovely to see you both on our turf. I’m so very thrilled you got to see the true essence of ‘England’ with Karloff’s cottage. What a beautiful little corner of the world. This ranks as one of your best films yet - and there’s been a few dazzlers. Loving what you do and your narrative style. Can’t wait for the next instalment of your Euro tour ❤️
I grew up in the 70's. In those days we had 3 or 4 channels and on Firday nights stations hosted Universal monstor movies until the channel went dead around 1am. Boris Karloff movies were some of the best from memory. As a kid watching, what was then our "horror" movies. Good memories. Keep up the great work. You guys are by far the horror history channel of the "Tube".
I really enjoyed this episode. Thank you both for the walk through movie history, and thank you to Penny for her generosity in granting access to her property. 👍🏼
This was the 1st Frankenstein I saw. I found him terrifying as a kid. He played so many great characters. What an era for great horror and the actors that made it eternal. Thank you, Boris Karloff.
I live 20 miles away from where Boris Karloff was born and have visited his grave many times it’s never a disappointment seeing it, Frankenstein was my favourite horror film growing up.
Seeing all of this made allot of sense to me. Can you imagine the fast pace and hustle of a life in Los Angeles back then? I'm sure he needed a home that was a complete retreat in a town that would honor his privacy. Absolutely gorgeous and unbelievably fitting to such an honorable man. And yet at the same time it feels like life imitating art. So fascinating. Thank you for the amazing tour.
That was my favorite document three that you have done. I am a huge Boris Karloff fan, and my favorite work from him is when the Grinch stole Christmas.❤💚
Nobody, and I mean nobody puts as much passion into their videos as you guys do. A pleasure to watch? So glad you guys are loving being in my country & you'll always be welcome here. Eagerly awaiting your next instalment 👍

Woahh!!!! I was born in East Dulwich and grew up there and I went to school in Forest Hill... half my family are buried in that cemetery, how did I not know Karloff's history was from around my way too?! It's quite incredible seeing you both walking around all the streets I recognise so well.
Ok, I left that comment about 3 minutes in as I got over excited. This has to be one of my favourite videos from the Grimm Life, thank you for showing how beautiful London can be away from the busy city. The raw emotion came through in this video tenfold as we took in the quaint church and Boris' house with you. Penny saying 'of course' in the background made me smile too, so typically English haha. I can't wait for the next video :)
So glad you finally get to visit us in the U.K. There’s some fantastic history & grave sites of some of our finest horror Actors laid to rest Enjoy your time here Michael & Jessica A great video 👏🏻👏🏻👻
Awesome video! Frankenstein and The Mummy are such great films. Bet it felt so cool to pay your respects to Boris. Also so sweet of Jessica to clean up the plaque for future visitors to see easier.
Mary Shelley author of Frankenstein is buried in Bournemouth, on the south coast of England, a couple of hours from London, the pub next door is named after her
Thank you so much for doing this video. Boris Karloff is one of my favorite all-time actors. I saw all his movies. His birthplace and everything else that you shared with us is absolutely breathtaking. The churches are beautiful graveyards are outstanding. It is totally on my bucket list to go there. Thank you again for sharing this with us. You two are the best
This is amazing ! I live near Portsmouth which isn't too far a car drive from Liphook where Boris's cottage is. So lovely of the current owner to let you film in the garden and to get a nice perspective of the building itself. I'm a huge Boris Karloff fan and I'm so glad you've done this video. Also, thank you Jessica for cleaning Boris's grave marker so it's readable again !. Have a lovely time here in England
I also wanted to thank her for cleaning his marker. That was actually quite nice of her. Sadly a lot of older cemeteries seem to not be as "well kept" as others. Such a shame for an icon of older film making and an icon of horror in general. It's really another reason why I'm probably choosing cremation when I make my Last Will & Testament. I've had a lot of bad luck while down here on Earth. Alas, I can already see my not properly tended, bad gravestone. So I see little need for one. Such a shame, though.
Michael and Jessica, what an amazing episode paying tribute to the great Boris Karloff. The ambiance of mystery and spiritual inquisitiveness was captured so well in your filming. The church graveyards are hauntingly beautiful! Thanks for taking us on another Grimmlife adventure! Happy Halloween!!
I totally agree! It's really awesome watching these two for the past few years 😉 I'm a huge Fan! I've told practically everyone I Know to go and check them out;)
If you ever get a chance to head down to the south east coast of the UK you can see the house in which Peter Cushing lived. In the town of whitstable….. he’s house is on the far end of the beach. The restaurant Tudor Tea rooms was he’s favourite… definitely worth a visit! Welcome to the UK!
What a great vid to have for your first visit over here in England. As Americans it must be fascinating for you to see history going so much farther back than the age of your modern Nation. No offence intended, but I think those from abroad can often appreciate it far more than us natives who often take it for granted. I hope you have a great time and everyone here is positive to you. ... And enjoy the weather, it's never boring lol!*! 🤣❤
I'm so happy to see you guys in the UK! There's so much history here. I hope you go on a Ripper walk and visit the Jack the Ripper museum. There's so many movies shot here as well, I hope The Omen is on your list! Really looking forward to what you're going to cover 👍
Thank you Jessica for cleaning up that plaque. That was very sweet of you. Thank you for this video. I have always been a huge Karloff fan. It brought me to tears seeing his last home and his gardens. You actually got to walk where he walked! How amazing is that? Thank you.
This is a great video to watch. Boris Karloff's performance as the Frankenstein monster was one of the greatest performances in movie history given that he had basically no dialogue and everything else was reaction. Thanks for all the hard work you do to make these videos.

Loved this, great way to begin your visit to England. Penny sounded lovely. I am hoping you get to go all over not just the south east. England has so much history, so many gorgeous historical places and spooky tales. And this time of year, just perfect
OMG, you guys finally made it out there!!.... WOW, LONDON!!.... Boris is a good start for your episodes.... Thanks, for the LOVE.... Happy Halloween....... :^)""""""""
What a monstrously beautiful tribute to Boris Karloff, another Grimmlife masterpiece. I do love the Frankenstein movies, but the mummy is definitely more frightening. In both instances, the creature is sympathetic and horrifying, a perfect combination. Thanks again, you two!
Boris also did the mad scientist Gambit . He detested makeup, so after the creature films, he usually played the evil parts but occasionally he was the good guy.
Hope you had/are having a fantastic time here in London! It’s crazy seeing you here and can’t wait to see all your travels 💚 💀 Stay safe on your travels 🦇
Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, and Lon Chaney the best ever. They were old movies when I was a kid. Yep, black and white movies were scary as hell when you’re young. They really only showed them at Halloween and if you missed them you’d have to wait a year
The pure Joy that resonates in your voice is palpable..when you enter the church and more so in Boris Karloffs garden . Gave me goosebumps. so happy that you both experienced it. churchs and grave yards like that are 10 a penny here in the UK. We are lucky. Happy Halloween 🎃
Although the Creature from the Black Lagoon is my favorite Universal Monster, he barely edges out Frankenstein's Monster for the honor. Boris Karloff is, without a doubt, my favorite actor who played a monster. He brought a dignity & elegance to every role he played & was obviously a very lovely man. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
So happy you made it here to England! I've loved your channel for years and just seeing you guys filming in my neck of the woods is so special. Your enthusiasm is so contagious too! Have fun! 😊
After seeing your videos about Bela Lugosi a while ago, I'm so glad that you made it to the UK to visit the great Boris Karloff. Even though I live in the UK, I'm yet to make it to Guildford to visit his final resting place, and just seeing your reaction to visiting his birth place and the home gardens that he tended to it's making me want to go even more. My reaction would probably be the same as yours.
Well done! Yet another detailed video. May Boris RIP. You honoured him well & with raw emotion. You also really managed to capture the beautiful English countryside. Thanks to Penny for allowing you access to the garden! ❤
❤ What do time Capsule. That was so amazing. It was like going back in time. Oh my God thank you for taking us there that beautiful church and cemetery was so beautiful beautiful. I didn't even realize you guys were in London it looked like New England. And the chime inside the church was a beautiful touch. Thank you Michael and Jessica.💚🖤
There's always been something eerie special bout England.. mainly the ole villages. So much beautiful and sad history there. The stonework is unbelievable, it's truely a memorizing place. The wind, trees, even ole cemeteries has a effect on a person in a wonderful way. Awesome video y'all..
Your in my home town, I was absolutely thrilled when I found out this a few years ago. You should see it in the summer with all the roses in bloom, it’s stunning
If you think this is fantastic, you wait and see what else we have here in Blighty! More mossy tombs, tall tales, windswept ruins and crumbly mansions than you can shake a stick at! You must stay for years! ❤
"I mean, look at this house", followed immediately by, "I can't", and a cut to Jessica staring at a wall!!! OMG I haven't laughed that hard in months!! Thank you for that! Amazing video, guys! Boris Karloff is probably my favorite horror actor and seeing his former home and resting place is a real treat! Safe travels.
This video is my favorite. I too loved Boris Karloff and just seeing where he was born, lived and is buried was so thrilling. I wish I could move there too. His little cottage would be more my speed though. Thank you for showing us something I'm sure I'll never see in reality. Boris, to be such a great horror icon, was really a kind, gentle man.
Michael, you are a cinematography genius!! Absolutely love your work!! And I learned some things about Mr. Karloff that I didn't know. Thank you for this video!! HH🎃
I LOVED this video. Such BEAUTIFUL architecture and landscape. Boris Karloff was a very gifted actor that certainly entertained a lot of horror fans back in the day of the Saturday afternoon matinee at theaters. If a Frankenstein movie was on the marque, there was a line around the block to get in the door. Thank you for taking me to England's cemeteries, churches and Mr. Karloff's former home. As a senior, I certainly would not have been able to see these wonderful sites without you. I am so grateful. God Bless you.
Thanks so much for posting this. I've been a Karloff fan for as long as I can remember...to get to see his gravesite plus his cottage and wonderful gardens....well lets just say you made my day :)
It's unusual for a RUclips presentation to draw me into the scenes like a well crafted movie, however, this one did. Having English heritage, I somehow have a longing to be there at times. Something about the simplicity of the countryside appears so grand to me. Excellent presentation.
I'm awestruck with this tribute. To see the footage of one of the great horror actors of our time (with respect to Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Vincent Price that I grew up watching) and view his final resting place, in addition to where he tended his garden, as you said Michael, was truly breathtaking! Thank you guys again, for another respectful vid. Truly one of my top 20! Stay safe. Happy Halloween!
You guys never disappoint but as others have said, this is one of your finest. Your love and enthusiasm for the topic are so infectious! Well done and enjoy your trip!
So great to see you have come over from the other side of the pond to the UK. There are so many great places you can visit while you’re here. Hope you do one on Vivien Leigh is home where she passed away in Eaton Square. It’s also where Luise Rainer another Oscar winner passed away as well.
Great video Michael and Jessica! I was born in 65 and have been a fan of Boris my whole life, watching you filming from his last garden at his cottage got me really emotional, keep up the great work!
Absolutely awesome video....the church was STUNNING!! Boris Karloff's garden was gorgeous. Looking forward to more adventures. Ty Michael and Jessica for your continued hard work and awesomeness!!😀🖤
Oh I envy you guys!😊 I don't blame you at all for wanting to move to England some day. All that history! I am a fan of Boris Karloff and historic places as well, so thank you for this. Take care , and happy halloween❤
Firstly, Welcome Michael and Jessica to the UK 🇬🇧 Secondly, what a fantastic video pilgrimage and tribute to Boris Karloff. Looking forward to the rest of your UK videos. You should both visit Highgate Cemetery; very gothic. 'Taste The Blood of Dracula' starring Christopher Lee was partly filmed here.
This is absolutely my favourite video that you guys have done. Got a bit teary eyed there a few times. I was born around the corner from where Karloff grew up in Enfield and have not been back to the UK since I was a toddler... but was able to live on the same planet with him for a year before he died. I live vicariously through your adventures and I just knew you were going to adore the mother island. More! More I say!
Also for Dracula: bram stoker was immediately mesmerised by the place, and the family stayed at 6 Royal Crescent in whitney more up north of England until 1896, and it was here that he would write parts of Dracula. For the novel, Stoker incorporated the most intriguing bits of local history, including the beaching of the Russian .
It's in Whitby north east side of England I live in Durham up the road ,, looks up st Mary s church in Scarborough ,, Anne bronte,, grave is there sister of the Great Emily best wishes from Durham England 😊
@@Granto-ni9qw yes sorry. the Russian vessel Dmitri that occurred only five years earlier. wo ships run ashore at Whitby by “a storm of great violence,” according to contemporary newspaper accounts. This little-known shipwreck inspired Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ Stoker, he was moved by grim details from the world around him while penning his horror masterpiece. The real fate of this Russian ship called the Dmitri played an outsized role in his imaginings.
Such a cool video. I bet it is surreal to be in England and taking in the scenery and history of the country. How much research did it take to find all the history you tell or was local help involved. Boris Karloff was an amazing actor in the Mummy and Frankenstein. Everything you and Jessica have visited so far is absolutely amazing. Loved the Labyrinth reference. Happy Halloween 🎃
@@grimmlifecollectiveI could only imagine. Thank you so much for taking us on you and Jessica's journeys and continue to enjoy yalls trip of a lifetime. Happy Halloween 🎃
Can't wait until these two visit Whitby, both the Abbey and Saint Mary's church need to be visited on the day time and night time, plus the Dracula experience👍
Thank you, Michael and Jessica for the making of this amazing video. I am a fan of the late, Boris Karloff. Karloff was a wonderful screen actor, who drew his audience into a world of the strange and macabre. England has always been a place I would love to visit and perhaps move to. It has so much history. The videos you two have created over the years are amazing and informative. :)
When i was a little kid on Sunday mornings, my brother and sisters and i would climb into my parent's bed and my father would tell us stories such as Robin Hood and a very sanitised version of his war experience but my favourite was when he'd talk about Karloff in Frankenstein. I knew that movie long before i actually saw it. Thank you enjoyed this
This is an absolutely beautiful tribute, brought tears to my eyes. I'm so happy for you both, hearing the pure joy in your voices was magical and so rewarding. I grew up watching Boris Karloff in classic horror movies and he has always been one of my favourite actors of all time. Thanks so much xx
What a great way to start a European vacation! I was just watching The Mummy the other day so what a great coincidence you're doing his story today. Love it! Also, I'm so proud of you both for reaching your goals to get across the pond to realize your European horror dreams. Or nightmares, whichever you prefer, hehe! I can't wait to see more. Happy Halloween to you and to everyone here🖤🎃🎈🔮🍭🍬🍫😈👻👽👾🤖👹🤡😻

OMG, you guys finally made it out there!!.... WOW, LONDON!!.... Boris is a good start for your episodes.... Thanks, for the LOVE.... Happy Halloween....... :^)""""""""
Such classic movies I love it! Boris Karloff and Bella Lagossi were my favorites as a child and I still think they are amazing! Classic horror movies!
Nicely done BBG, that sign of respect and care to detail cleaning that Man's plaque warmed my heart👏
Have fun! 😊
Karloff was living just like I'd love to. Out in the woods in a cottage tending my garden. Can't imagine how it felt to be there.
I dont think i have ever said WOW so many times watching a video!
Hello Elizabeth, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus?
If you think this is fantastic, you wait and see what else we have here in Blighty! More mossy tombs, tall tales, windswept ruins and crumbly mansions than you can shake a stick at! You must stay for years! ❤
"I mean, look at this house", followed immediately by, "I can't", and a cut to Jessica staring at a wall!!! OMG I haven't laughed that hard in months!! Thank you for that! Amazing video, guys! Boris Karloff is probably my favorite horror actor and seeing his former home and resting place is a real treat! Safe travels.
Nice tattoo! Karloff is one of my favorite movies, monsters. The Grimms Rocking the UK 🇬🇧!
Thank you so much. Never knew he was British. Beautiful cottage where he lived. ❤
The UK is beautiful. Have fun, Happy Halloween 🎃🎃🎃🎃👻👻👻👻
This is so exciting!! ❤️
Hello Cissy, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus?
@@Trevorjennings679 yes, thank you!
As a kid, I loved his television show "Thriller"
This was probably my favourite ever Grimm adventure. So much packed in to one episode. Thanks for your work.
Absolute awesome video! I learned so much more about Boris from you. Thank you for sharing as always.
This makes me happy. Job done. Thank you for going on the adventure with us.
This was a treat thanks for posting ! ⚡💀⚡👍
England is my favorite country
What russian ?? My wife is russian ?? U on about the the ship ?? Done think it was called that ??
@@Granto-ni9qw yes sorry. the Russian vessel Dmitri that occurred only five years earlier. wo ships run ashore at Whitby by “a storm of great violence,” according to contemporary newspaper accounts. This little-known shipwreck inspired Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’
Stoker, he was moved by grim details from the world around him while penning his horror masterpiece. The real fate of this Russian ship called the Dmitri played an outsized role in his imaginings.
@@karljordinson5897 yes bud ya right 👍
@@karljordinson5897 where ya from ??
Such a cool video. I bet it is surreal to be in England and taking in the scenery and history of the country. How much research did it take to find all the history you tell or was local help involved. Boris Karloff was an amazing actor in the Mummy and Frankenstein. Everything you and Jessica have visited so far is absolutely amazing. Loved the Labyrinth reference. Happy Halloween 🎃
It was a lot of research. And prep helps but once you are there…anything can happen.
The church you walked through, across from your "headquarters" is absolutely gorgeous!!
I love your enthusiasm of my country. You have a great insight of the horrors that lurk there. Seriously loved this.
Hello Helen, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
What a great way to start a European vacation! I was just watching The Mummy the other day so what a great coincidence you're doing his story today. Love it! Also, I'm so proud of you both for reaching your goals to get across the pond to realize your European horror dreams. Or nightmares, whichever you prefer, hehe! I can't wait to see more. Happy Halloween to you and to everyone here🖤🎃🎈🔮🍭🍬🍫😈👻👽👾🤖👹🤡😻
Yes my daughter, that is so true, so true 👍
It’s very lovely and peaceful there!
