    To anyone watching this, use house wrap, it is your actual barrier against water, Some water will and does get behind vinyl siding, especially were windows are. Were do you think wind driven rain goes after getting in the j trim around the window? Yes down and some gets behind the siding as the j channel doesn’t run straight down to the ground, as say like the corners do, so you count on House wrap to keep the sheathing dry as any water that made it by the siding will run straight down and out. Any play were to pieces of siding meet even tho they over lap, can and do get a little wind driven rain past them. Again this isn’t a issue when installing the House wrap and flashing correctly. This guy doesn’t have a clue.

    I bought a house with a shed that was finished aside from siding. Was intimidated about doing the siding by ourselves. This video really helped and now we feel confident to do it ourselves. Thanks for the great video! Saved us a few hundred bucks

    It's great that you are trying to help people learn but you need to do it the right way in order for people to this themselves the right way and not waste money and then redo the entire project. House wrap #1, proper window flashing #2 then you can install your siding, don't mislead people into skipping steps and important once!

    Is there a reason you put slider windows in as double-hung windows? Your drain holes should be in the bottom and not on the side.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  6 лет назад +3

      I used these windows because they were $20 a piece and they were matching. I ended up drilling out the bottom so they would drain. I did not know that they were slider windows until the bottom filled up with water. I had to put some painted wood shims in the sides to have them slide vertically properly. Live and Learn.

    Right off the bat, a seam in between the window and the corner post, why? That's a no-no where a full piece can be used. Tapping on the wall with your hands and the window sash starts dropping down, funny. There is such a thing called condensation, leading up to mold, rot, plywood swelling etc. behind the siding. For a couple bucks more you should have bought some wrapping paper. I enjoy watching DIYer's doing their weekend could of should of projects. I know it's only a shed, but hello.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  7 лет назад +5

      I talked about it in the last video. I want the building the breathe because there is going to be spilled water inside the building with it being a pool house. Also there is stone landscape surrounding the outside of the building, so there should be good drainage from the water off the roof.

      @@doublewide6 house wrap breathes, it's not a waterproof barrier it's more of a water-shedding material

      It's a shed not a house. It's not heated or insulated. This is a hell of a lot better then the painted chipboard shed I have in my yard that I need to fix. It's probably only 10 years old and the chip board exposed directly to the outside is completely sogged and rotten. I was going to just replace the chipboard and paint it with 3 coats of paint but now I am thinking of trying to do siding now that I see how it's done. And then it will last 50 years instead of 10. Just need to replace shingles not rebuild the entire damn thing next time. Whoever owned this house before me was a hack everything they touched was half assed and not designed to last.

    • @SamWilliamson317
      @SamWilliamson317 6 лет назад

      The person who owned your house before must have own my house. Same thing for my shed! I will now be looking at replacing the outside with siding.
