The real question is what is the secret end game for the Democrats allowing all of this? Yes many of us call them stupid, crazy, and ridiculous, but they are not. No one purposely destroys their own tax business tax base and tax income from now unemployed working class citizens. I wonder if they are setting the stage for a monthly basic living income benefit given out by the government. I went to a small eatery in South Korea that was run by 2 grandmas. They were both cooking in the kitchen area and only took orders by customers yelling in their order. Never saw their faces. There was one plastic container with cash inside it, unsupervised, on a shelf. All the customers paid in cash, then took their appropriate amount of change from the container, thanked the grandmas for the meal, and left. It was quite an experience for my husband and I. 🤯
Yeah, I live on the countryside in Europe and we have a lot of the businesses. Famers also do it with their goods. And I love it. Would never move to a big city (unless I’ve been to many), living there seems awful to me.
Because in South Korea and any other asian country like Thailand or Vietnam you don't have illegal immigrants wandering around looking for something to steal or someone to rape. Go to Italy or Belgium and you'll see that some areas are out limits for the police because illegal immigrants have got control of them.
I understand the logic behind reducing the severity of prosecution of certain crimes, but something something law of unintended consequences. For every intended consequence, there will be two more you didn’t expect and one will likely be unpleasant.
A teenage version of me would have thrived in currant day NYC since I use to be a shoplifter back then. As a former shoplifter, I can tell you with absolute certainty that your without consequences statement holds more water than an ocean.
@kyndkristen this is fully intended consequences. The trend of western society for the past 20+ years have been "you have the freedom to do whatever you want and nobody else should be allowed to criticize or control you in any way. " When people stop caring about the actual truth and start promoting BS phrases like "my truth" you already know this type of stuff is coming. No personal responsibility, no consequences
Punishments need to be harsher, to deter & to keep ones who don't care off the streets. I also think municipality's should have the right to order people to vacate jurisdictions if they can't get it together. If you force them out of their area, they lose their crew & ability to easily assemble like minded individuals. In turn, where they go needs to be notified they're coming & supervision begins. I understand other areas not wanting a problem individual to come, but perhaps a new start & some resource programs to help that person get established into a better path could be beneficial. I know it's not fun for the family & friends to have a loved one forced to move away, but their decisions resulting that ultimately is on them. Obviously this is just an idea for something different to try, & would require a lot of moving pieces. But nothing currently seems to be working - so maybe some new ideas will bring a working plan to fruition.
Nonsense! Diversity is our strength! Those stores needed a little excitement in their profits. The shareholders don't want to go to a boring meeting about profits! Gotta spice it up a little. Edit: This is sarcasm, for the brainrots that couldn't tell.
Powerpuff girls made an episode almost similar to this. Crime has been legalized and the girls can't stop it legally. At the end, crime became illegal again AFTER the people who change the law was robbed themselves. The cause may be different, but it feels the same way.

Really want to know how New Yorkers think when they vote for a Black Democrat mayor. Have they ever heard of any successful modern civilization established in Africa?
I hate when people say this is a victimless crime. They'll say things like, "they're not hurting anyone. Mind your business." Accessible goods are being taken away and people are losing their jobs. Imagine all your local stores closing down so you now have to travel further and further for necessities. People who can afford to leave these ghetto neighborhoods will do so. Those who cannot are stuck there. This type of theft is only damaging their own communities.
If you think the politicians are completely to blame then you are part of the problem. Society reflects the quality of the people who live there. This is what happens when you flood the country with the garbage of the world.
To be fair, I love hooded sweatshirt jackets, and a lot of other good citizens do to. Regardless of the “racist” claim, they’d probably lose a lot of valuable customers. I’d be tempted to go in to see if I get kicked out for wearing a jacket with a hood. My point is that there has to be better means of prevention.
Agree. And i would add support your local police. I can walk anyplace at night, by myself as a woman, because our police force keeps criminals in check. They are not welcome here & they get that message very quickly. As a result the honest citizens are free to live their lives, kids to go where they want and our elderly not live in fear.
If groceries were the biggest target that would actually reflect the narrative... Or perhaps things have actually got so bad people are eating leather shoes and bags like in the great depression?
@@Free_Krazyyou are actually dumb if you believe these stores are closing due to theft, it's due to the extremely high cost of rent. companies like walgreens are using this to help justify more enforcement.

Vote in a soft on crime mayor and governor then Pikachu face when crime runs rampant. Sick and tired of people acting like the criminals are somehow the victims.
Progressive policies. Funny thing about the process? Sometimes you reach a wall. Sometimes a cliff. Happened to every great civilization and or empire. Gotta say though, never expected the American demise to be so ghey.
Genuine question bc i guess im misinformed on Adams but i did not think of him as a soft on crime mayor, i feel like I keep hearing how he’s got a hardon for policing. What makes you say that?
kinda funny how they're allowed to break the law, from stealing, to assaulting people, and then none of these cities think "hey maybe we should stop arresting people when they take defensive action against these criminals."
I live in Japan and the local Thai restaurant sells vegetables cheap in front of their store - even when they're not there. They have a money box to put your coins in. Neither I, nor would the local community think of taking without paying.
Ahhh But Japan is a civilized place to live in.....I know..I have visited that wonderful country.... Children in School , clean up the classroom at the end of the day....This is how you raise responsible children .....I can remember walking in the parks and being greeted by children of all ages , with respect..... I saw no graffiti anywhere ...No litter at all....
Because shaming over there is still a real thing. Plus the having whole eastern way of thinking where the individual puts the family ahead of themselves, if you get shamed by your community you dishonor your family name. Community is what keeps civilization alive.
Most Americans would abide by that trust system. However there's a healthy amount of black Americans that would just steal it and burn it down to rub it in. then bitch about how you're racist for not rebuilding your shop and letting them continue to steal. lol

This is what happens when you decide that some crime is ok and can be excused. No crime is ok and no matter how small must be punished harshly, thats how to keep proper order.
It actually sucks that no one in this thread of comments is mentioning who is doing the stealing! We have become so afraid to speak about the truth and even fight for justice because even that can get you in trouble, too! What a damn shame!
Democracy for you. Idiots get to decide what happens to you. Imagine the people who didn't vote for it? Some moved out of the state some can't afford to. Sadly this might still be the best solution.
We owe NYC a huge debt for showing the rest of the country "what not to do." We now know that defunding the police, offering right to shelter, having no cash bail, criminal justice reform, and being a sanctuary city just didn't work out well for NYC. So it probably won't work out well for anyone else. Thanks a lot, guys! We appreciate you showing us what not to do.
The problem is when progressive policy creates misery, they say it failed because it wasn't big enough and they set out to spread the policy nationwide. Which is what Biden is doing and will do more of if he gets back in.

What frustrates me is that they’re blurring out the faces of the shoplifters, they clearly don’t care about hiding themselves so why are we giving them that kind of courtesy.
Personal identity rights? Get more police and your social system to work instead of destroy persons life via the internet by that little delicts like steel toothpaste.. Your way of thinking is one of the reasons why your society is what it is.
The worst part is always in the aftermath, when the very people looting stores to death scream "economic racism" in response to those stores moving away from them.
Actually the people stealing won't be the ones to claim racism for 2 reasons: 1. They're thieves. Only the innocent will complain 2. Some are white, as shown in the beginning of this vid and in others.
I witnessed 2 shoplifting in my local Rite Aid in broad daylight, until the store closed for business. We’ve got to stop electing these people who decriminalize these lowlifes.!
There is no greater indictment of judges than the fact that honest people are afraid to go into court, while criminals swagger out its revolving doors. Thomas sowell
I can't remember the last time I ever spent $1000 in one store, so to think about criminals stealing that much regularly with no punishment is just baffling.
they should get in trouble for stealing anything..how does it feel to have something taken from you that you worked hard for..your right though, a 1000.00 is crazy..so basically i can walk into a store and take what i want without any problems, maybe a ticket??
Very true. And now the stores rarely call the police because it's a waste of time so this further adds to their, "crime is going down." Such idiocracy.
Yep the proof is in the pudding letting everyone know why law & order was put in place so this kind of behavior does not thrive. Consequences are a coming and no one is going to care when these criminals cry their excuses with crocodile tears.

At about ten p.m.the store is almost deserted, except for several minority couples stuffing food into baggy cloths and bags they are carrying, then, walking right out the entrance.Wy wife couldn't believe it, so she called another worker over to witness it. " the management says don't do or say anything. Just pretend you don't see it" this happened every night. She finally confronted the night manager a few weeks later. He told my wife corperate says to let it go. They don't want any" incidents" meaning racial. A night manager was fired several months earlier at a store next town over for trying to stop a theft, in which the police came, the minority woman saying her civil rights were being infringed, and let go by the cops. The next day, the manager was canned for ignoring the unwritten rule to not see anything. My wife finally quit, saying the theives were eating better than we were on the money she was being paid. P.C correctness has made corperate afraid of arresting minority theives.

Born in 1956, and I once paid a nickel for 5 pieces of gum, but took 6 when I was 5. (A penny a piece back then). I felt so guilty I couldn't sleep all night. As soon as the store opened the next day, I gave the clerk a nickel and only took 4 pieces. I have never forgotten that terrible night and have never stolen anything since. I have even gone out of my way to return money when I discovered a clerk overpaid me when making change. My granddad told me once you come into the world with a good name, and it is all you take with you.

Just a stark difference. It's sad watching how things have become over time here just because of our bad leadership.

We need to consider that stores are being hit in 3 different ways: 1) Huge losses from shoplifting; 2) Higher costs for security; and 3) Much lower sales, because when everything is locked, no impulsive sales take place. No wonder retail is leaving these blue hellholes.

Heck, it's not great in the suburbs of Chicago, either. The town I live in lost a Walgreens because too many things walked out of there. Same with the Target. Also, in another town (from which I take the bus to work) a Walmart had to pack up shop for the same reason.

They just gone soft, in Brazil where I grew up if you are poor becouse of racists policies that have been going on for centuries and try to steel from big retail stores, or even any place of commerce that is intended for middle upper classes - assuming that you could get in, you would get a nice beat up from the security. I'm not saying that it is right, but it is how they get their things going, we live in a capitalistic society that makes it harder on the poor to overcome the gap, and by allowing them to just commit crimes without anyone beeing there just to garante that the store isn't going to be robed putting their own security at risk (becouse they are actually payed for the security), makes all the sistem crumble. It is an unfair world and unfair life, in Italy we say that some are born from the v*gina and some are born from the as*hole, and that's what divese us... Some are born to struggle and live under harsh conditions as workers and a small minority gets everything as easy as you can get something, and if someone tries to break that cicle: you probably guest it, they get beat up. Again, not that it is fair, but we live in societies that are made to be unequal, it is unfruitful to try other wise - everything just crumbles becouse once you can get free from the chains that make you have a hard life and a shitty job - what will keep the lower classes in their spot once that moral and religion have already gone down the drain? And it certainly doesn't help to keep bringing unfortunate peaple to this already chaotic city, that just learn that the land of oportunity has already gone dry.

I've worked retail for 32 years almost and I have never witnessed a nice thief with manners asking for the merchandise and then running out the door, they might sneak it and conceal it but they didnt do what they do now. They are so brazen they have a car waiting double parked in the fire lane they get out walking to the store go right for the Tommy Hilfiger and the polo shirts in Marshalls they fill up their arms by stripping the rack and they run out the door like a crackhead on fire. And we're not allowed to do a damn thing in fact if we open the door and hold it for them to provide safety for the thief LOL that would probably be commended

When people stop caring about the actual truth and start promoting BS phrases like "my truth" you already know this type of stuff is coming.

This shows how politically polarized we have become: Donald Trump is getting the book thrown at him, and the people who are committing much worse crimes are walking free.
By not making it a crime for shoplifting under $1,000.
The city is basically giving everybody who walks through the store doors a $1,000 gift card, every day. 💳💳💳💳💳💳

Eventually the people that actually pay for everything when they go to a store- feel like fools.
It makes me wonder how many people have recently traveled to NYC just to steal stuff. It seems like a really easy way to make a lot of money, and I'd guarantee I'm not the first person to have that thought
It is intentional, people would not welcome a police state if they were not given a reason
This unfortunately sounds possible
Could be. There has to be something behind this. It's just obviously intentional
They did in the mid 90's
In some asian countries some stores don’t even have staff and rely on the trust and technology for customers to police themselves. Higher morale value I guess
Cultural homogeneity versus multiculturalism
They don't have the 13%

They're also VERY tough on crime there.
yep. i am in china. people don't steal. its about cultural, morals, family values, and it's reinforced in public schools. its clean, safe to go out at night, and there are actual consequences for people that break the law.

When they run out of retail stores to steal from they’ll go to taxpayers’s home. Those DANGEROUS shampoo and detergent MUST BE LOCKED. Glad NY voted for this.
nope, when these criminal big box stores are gone and scammer landlords stop trying to charge 500,000 per month for commercial spaces, small businesses will slowly come back. People will make a living again. NYC will actually have a market amenable to real people running real small businesses again.
many people believe that shoplifting is a victimless crime - especially since many retail stores are big box stores with a high volume of sales. This is far from true. The cumulative effect of shoplifting and theft is substantial and the losses are absorbed by us - the consumer.
They just pass along the lost to everyone else.

Stores spend millions on safety measures just so criminals can just ask an employee to get the item for them and walk out of the store without anybody stopping them.
LOL you're right but I want you to think about this, have you actually ever been witness to a shoplifter asking for merchandise and then walking out the door with it???
It's about eliminating the stores in warehouses
@@stillwaters7730I actually witnessed this during Memorial Day Weekend. A couple of guys came in the store and ask for assistance in finding charcoal. Once the employee showed them to the isle they just grabbed a couple of bags and just walked out.

It was never anything big, and I'm not finding a single way of justifying my behavior, but for a fact I never did anything big. That being said, I've also worked in retail since I was 14 years old and I've seen the changes with security and cameras etc loss prevention is a huge aspect of the retail industry but.... The truth is they've always written the loss into their business plans. They prepare for it ahead of time, we are not talking about Mom and Pop businesses, I'm talking about all the big Moguls that do not deserve to be this big. Bottom line I do not condone stealing but I would understand if people were taking things solely out of desperation and necessity, not to resell on Amazon or Facebook marketplace offer up etcetera. If you read to the end please know that I don't want anybody to steal, 😞 but there's no turning back. We must endure til JESUS returns
