I've been travelling to Chicago for years now and they've got it right on point!!! Can't beat a Lou's brekkie before a bears game!!! Being from the UK, Chicago is the best food city in America.

The Italian Beef sandwich is one of mankinds greatest inventions. Glad to see you did it correctly with it being dipped and with giardiniera.

Great video tour! The Pizzeria is pronounced "Pee-quads" and it's excellent! Loved your Doughnut tour which I've done myself on occasion and those are my top three places. Doughnut Vault is my favorite as well; only stay open until they're sold out, sometimes before 11:00 AM. Lou Mitchell's is what it is. There are a half dozen better breakfast places within two miles of there.

Great video! Your guys hit some great places! Just a couple of notes, Sun Wah BBQ IS inside the city of Chicago in the Uptown neighborhood not, “outside the city”. And I think the Superdawg you guys went to was also still within Chicago city limits on Milwaukee Ave.

Came here to say this! I think some cities must refer to only downtown as "the city" but that's not how we do in Chicago.

  • @JennNahrstadt

I spent 15 years in Chicago and my husband is a native, and you've hit all the highlights. Ann Sather's was a great start. (It's pronounced with a short A, like sat"). A few things: Italian beef is something iconic to Chicago, and what you were referring to when you saw the celery, carrots, and onions is called giardiniera. The bun MUST be dipped or it's not a true Italian beef. At Superdawg, the bun is steamed, and ketchup is a no-no. Haven't had the deep dish you had because we've been in GA for 17 years, but it looks legit. Giordano's is our fav.

Yes, they definitely need to try multiple different pizza places the next couple of times they come to Chicago. Giordanos, lol Nadies also some places that they would try some of the classic thin tavern style pizza. And there were still a number of classic places they didn’t hit, but they did get a lot accomplished!

I really miss all the food and music living in Chicago. Fries at Superdawg are great, and they come in the bun with the dawg. And next time, go the the Pequods out in Morton Grove, not far from Superdawg. Excellent choices for winter food and you didn't even scratch the surface! I can't believe you ate all that food in three days??

The Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Chicago used to be a flagship store for Crate & Barrel. It closed in January 2018 & became the world's largest Starbucks coffee roastery and retail space on November 15, 2019. Also, Superdawg is actually still located within the city of Chicago, which is in the Norwood Park neighborhood. There is a second location of Superdawg that's located outside of the city in the village of Wheeling.

I've lived in Chicago for 44 years, you guys went to a lot of my favorite spots. Good job. I like Pequods but am not as into the burnt cheese as many other people, Bartoli's is my favorite deep dish place, its sort of an old school type deep dish pie. But my favorite pizza in the city is the thin from Pat's Pizza. Ricobene's breaded steak sandwich is the one "Chicago" food that flies under the radar but is probably our best thing. Other Chicago foods are the Chicken Vesuvio (at any italian place, maybe quintessentially at Harry Carrays), the iltaco "Pizza Puff" (every independent fast food beef or hot dog stand, even in grocery stores frozen), and the Puerto Rican "Jibarito" sandwich. For next time lol...

The Beijing duck is inside the city of Chicago limits although it’s in a neighborhood that’s a bit further north. I think you were talking about places relative to the downtown areajust wanted to clarify that for you and for anyone listening to your channel

I actually had guided food tour when I was there. I didn't pick the tour myself, I was a winner of a competition and it was part of the prize. It finished in this polish pastry shop and to my complete surprise what we tasted were pierogi, typical polish but also Slovak food (which is where I am from). So I was on this random tour thousands of miles from home, jetlagged having the food I remember since childhood and it tasted pretty much the same. It was very surreal.

Probably a lot less expensive than the Palmer House version, though. :)

Chicago resident and Sun Wah is my favorite place to go for a special dinner. The soup is one of my fav things to take home for leftovers - it gets even better when it sits for a day. You hit so many of my other favs! It's too bad you didn't have to wait in line at Lou Mitchell's - they give out sugar babies and donut holes while you wait. I prefer Lou Malnotis to Pequods but that's an ongoing Chicago debate haha. My favorite brunch to bring visitors to though is Bongo Room- the lobster roll Benedict is amazing. Come back and go get at burger at Fat Cat, sushi at Miku, and take me with you to Sun Wah 😂. Glad you had a good time!

OK, I just got to this part of your video. Superdawg, the location which you went to is also in the city. It just happens to be on the far northwest side. In fact, it’s only like half a mile from where I live. They do have a second location in Wheeling, but they are definitely inside the city of Chicago, particularly the location you went to. Glad you enjoyed it.

Gotta go walking around wicker park. Go eat somewhere on division street and go shopping on Milwaukee ave after. Take a stroll down through the neighborhood in between both of those streets to enjoy the architecture of the homes

I would consider Ann Sather a bit dated. Lost Larson is the new place for cinnamon rolls.
In Uptown, there's also Milly's Pizza in a Pan and Kie-Gol-Lanee for Oaxacan food. Zaza's in Lakeview is also really good for thin crust.
Some other places you could try are Japanese style sushi (Mako/Juno, Omakase Yume, no California rolls covered in spicy mayo), dim sum (Ming Hin, Dolo), and regional Chinese (Chengdu Impression, Xian Cuisine). Also Au Cheval, rated the best burger in the US for many years. Some international chains too like Hai Di Lao. And of course steak (Beoufhaus, old classic Gibson's, Bavette's, Swift and Sons, personally don't like Maple and Ash but that's there too).

    • @Stephdayosteph

I second Minghin and Chengdu Impression, plus Chiu Quon bakery for buns very close to Sun Wah.

And you know while you were there, especially since your wife isn’t that keen but usual hotdogs it would’ve been a good idea to get a Whoopie dog, which is more like a brat with a different kind of bun and also very reasonably priced. Maybe she would’ve enjoyed that. Anyway, I know this was your first time so you wouldn’t have known but maybe if you ever come back. And remember you were inside Chicago still!

Did Chicago proud. Not touristy. Check out Chicago cultural center right by the bean. Beautiful building lots of outlets to charge and a place warm up or cool down. For food you hit the highlights but try Billy's goats under the Wrigley building, not navy pier. Or wiener circle for a char dog. Go late night when it gets nuts.
