Writer, presenter and sometime games journalist Charlie Brooker had a bizarre cameo in Sniper Elite 3, for instance, in which he appears in expansion pack Hunt the Grey Wolf.
The Sniper Elite series combines the slow-motion bullet time of Neo, the X-ray vision of Superman, and the obsession with internal organs of Hannibal Lecter.
So we can only imagine the enthusiasm with which Brooker grasped the opportunity to have his likeness offered up for testicle target practice.

I'm honestly surprised that Ariana Grande made a cameo in Final Fantasy *_before_* someone like Utada Hikaru, who's been singing the themes for the Kingdom Hearts games since 2002.
nobody knows Utada though, everyone knows Ariana.
Anyone who plays Square Enix games knows Utada, I think that's his point. but true... she ain't doing a promotional, so no point in bringing her in
@Ramon Ruiz I think you might be overestimating Utada's fame. I'm a massive fan of pretty much all the SE games but I've never heard the name before. I don't think many people pay attention to the composers behind the music in their games, even in cases like Final Fantasy where much of the music is just amazing. "Composer" isn't exactly a profession where you need to put a face, or even a name to the person behind it. Enjoying the music is the point. The same goes for animators. It's a minority of people who are specifically interested in music or art that would go so far as to learn about the people behind them rather than just enjoying the product.
@SpydersByte Just cuz you don't, doesn't mean others don't. A lot of gamers pay attention to composers, just like people know voice actors, writers, etc. She's not a huge name in the industry, but as she's done both Kingdom Hearts games, she has a pretty will known familiarity among SE community.
@Ramon Ruiz wasn't saying no one does, was just saying I don't think it's as common as you seem to think it is. Voice actors are one thing because that's a very personal quality, but art and music have little to nothing to do with the name or face behind the design so to find that information you have to be interested enough to even look, let alone to do so regularly. Just saying I don't think it's super common.

MJ was in a early episode of The Simpsons were he’s playing a fat white man from a mental hospital that claims to be MJ but only Lisa believes. He goes uncredited and has a impersonator sing his parts because apparently wanted to play a prank on his brothers. Though I think it was actually for contractual reasons. Him doing a fake out version of himself could be for similar reasons.
Ariana's cameo is more like the creators went, "Shit, the VA for Fran isn't available to reprise her role. Uh. Hey, Ariana, put these ears on."

Do you seriously think a barbedwire covered baseball bat would faze the refs of the Tekken tournament? Alisa Boskonovich walks into every fight armed with chainsaws, rockets, explosive self decapitations, a jetpack, an armored metal endoskeleton, AND non-regulation boots. I’m pretty sure the rulebook for that tournament fits on a post-it note and is written in colored pencil.

Yeah, but Chainsaws, Rockets, Jetpacks, and Self-decapitations. How many people do the injure every year? Not a lot. But do you know how many people are injured by Barbed Wire, and Baseball Bats. How could you even imagine combining the two. That's way beyond the line. Come on.

One of the weirdest cameos I've ever stumbled upon was Aisha Tyler in Watchdogs. I was randomly looking at peoples information on my phone to hack someone and I found actress/comedian Aisha Tyler walking around the city. At the time it seemed so out of place and random but after a little research I read an article where she was talking about being a big gamer and loving open world video games. So the cameo makes a little more sense but I couldn't figure out why of all the games to have a cameo in she chose Watchdogs.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse as a cameo/easter egg in Far Cry 3. He is killed by Vaas and buried in the sand in a RUclips promotion video, and if you find his head in the game, you get an achievement.

ZeKaiser LongShank5 I think that was mainly to do with the devs being huge fans of his that they took any opportunity to work with him they could get. That said, I seriously didn't expect a leading role in one of their games.
Jean rescuing his buddy by leaping through the air on a motorbike, shouting "J'arrive!" is honestly one of the most awesome things I've ever seen.

as soon as I saw Ariana on the thumbnail I knew this would include her cameo with FFBE. I have to say, the song was actually pretty damn good, even if her (multiple) units were not. Also, anyone interesting in a Final Fantasy mobile app should try out Brave Exvius, it's great!

I honestly remember being super confused about the Roddy Piper cameo, but i just accepted it because hey, Saints Row 4 was weird.

Speaking as a fan of Carpenter's body of work, I got super psyched playing SR4 and seeing Piper show up, because ... they might do it, they might actually refer to that scene, and ... my fandom was mightily serviced, let me tell you.
Charlie Brooker's character in Sniper Elite 3 was never explicitly called 'Charlie Brooker', and despite some VERY heavy hints, the Propaganda Minister in Just Cause 3 was never explicitly called 'David Tennant', so if it's only the celebrity's voice that matters then I would argue that it's impossible for Nolan North to cameo in a video game. The man IS video games.
It is easy to learn which gamer has seen "They live" without even mentioning it by name. Just ask them where "I came here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum!" came from.

They Live was a pretty great B-movie, but not all that obscure... I always want to know if anyone followed up with watching Hell Comes to Frogtown. (spoiler: it doesn't age as gracefully as They Live.)
Is it a problem if I didn't know the name, but do know the scene both at the bank and referenced in Saints Row. I think in images, not words, So I always forget titles, not scenes.
I hate to be the actually guy but Duke says "its time to kick ass and chew bubblegum" which is the opposite way round to how Roddy says it in the film.
Hearing David Tennant's voice in Just Cause 3 was kinda cool. I had never played a Just Cause game and when I heard the audio come on I wasn't expecting it but it's made clearing every military installation a bit more enjoyable over the repetitiveness of liberating every location in the game.
It's always... uh... 'interesting' when a game makes a huge deal out of introducing a caracter I'm supposed to know. Like Roddy Piper. That fight scene was even weirder for me because I had no idea who he was, whether he was an ally or foe, nothing. Watching that fight go on had me weirded out for sure.
I loved the Roddy Piper cameo in Saints Row IV. RIP Rowdy Roddy.

So in Halo 2, when you're defending the human city as Master Chief, Laura Prepron (from that 70's show) and David Cross (from Mr. Show) both show as Marines that can assist you. Laura's character gives you the shotgun, while Cross plays one of the Marines that wields a Rocket Launcher and helps you out crossing the bridge in the tank. I'd wager very few people saw either coming.
I mean that's not really a cameo though. That's just them voicing the characters they were assigned.

Cameos are not limited to real life celebrities. It's the same exact thing when a character from one game appears as a guest star in another game (and usually from a different company).

I'm sad you didn't put in Nicole, Spartan 458, from Dead or Alive 4. I mean think about it. A Spartan, wearing half a ton of armor, being tossed around like a rag doll by an old man, an actual demon, super ninjas, even by young teenagers!

Yakuza 6 deserves a mention in this category for not only featuring world acclaimed director Beat Takeshi as a character, but also a whole bunch of wrestlers from the NJPW promotion, including the at the game's release World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada.

The band BatAAr made a song for Lars, titled Vrede ("Wrath" in Swedish). Though they aren't really a famous band it's still something to check out.

There are 3 or 4 different Ariana Grande in final fantasy brave exvius. Also lara croft, Adam Jensen, Mario rodregas, 9s and 2b, and more I'm probably not thinking of.

Experience them because you can summon these "visions" and use then to augment your own powers. Which surprisingly is not just handwavium but central to the games storyline.
So they're not "real" in the sense that they're people you meet in the game, but manifestations of people who exist somewhere.

Keith David playing himself in a video game? We all know him as Captain/Councilor/Admiral Anderson from Mass Effect. Before playing Mass Effect 3, I read a comic in which Udina was Councilor. I was all like WTF. Then I started planning Mass Effect 3 and selected the codex pages. Oh. So having Anderson punching Udina in the face and getting your revenge for getting stabbed in the back was for nothing? Oh well. Some players seem to prefer Udina even after what he did, only tried that once to see what it was like

Brave Exvius makes perfect sense.
It's brave ex-Final Fantasy characters v us (assuming the game was developed by the monsters you're fighting).
The game has basicly ALOT of characters from other Ff games. And games that were doing collabs with the FFBE team. Like the lara croft event. And atm the deus ex machina mankind divided thing

Here in the States they showed They Live (and I think there was a sequel, as well) almost every weekend on TBS and/or TNT and/or UPN from about 1992 until 2000.
and there was no sequel. i'm trying to figure out what i watched that basically looked like a sequel that also had the same looking aliens and a different lead with the same haircut that was part alien, i think?
Those were the days. TNT introduced me to some awesome movies. They Live, Rumble in the Bronx, and Return of the Living Dead, to name a few.

I'm sad Imissed out on Dangerous Ariana and had to settle on Chic Ariana to fight alongside my FF allstar team of Lara Croft, a Dragon Quest Slime, and a couple people from Just Cause 3. Truly the Finalest of Final Fantasy teams.
I'm sad that I was *around* for Dangerous Ariana, but had just started so I didn't get her 6*. Then missed the re-run by a week when I came back. She's the last one I need for my collection, too - can almost field a full bloody team.
aw man that's rough...hopefully they bring it back at some point, but idk how the rights for that specific event pan out. At least you can get Deus Ex peeps at the moment, which isn't as ridiculous but is equally final fantasy related?
Actual plot worth a damn, for starters. FFRK took what, 2 years to actually start trickling out a tiny bit of a story once a month? Whereas FFBE has had a compelling one from the start and does fairly decent updates bi-monthly barring hiccups. And a bit better then the repetitive brick-to-the-brain that Mobius FF (which was originally touted to bring a 'console experience to mobile', laughably) and less bland then Dissidia Opera Ominia's plot thread.
Generic anime in places, sure, but it's... probably one of the better FF plotlines from a non-main series. And probably as good or above some of those. Factor in solid sprite work, good mechanics, and being able to get some absurd distance with 'budget' teams you can't in FFRK... Eh. I prefer it. To each their own, though.
All of the Ariana variants suck, don't be sad you missed them.
is FFRK even still possible to download? Also, the art sucks in comparison to BE, the combat sucks in comparison, and it didn't have the active support that BE does.
It seems the developers of Just Cause like stuff like that. A German RUclipsr by the name of Gronkh was also implemented (of course in the German version), as the guy who is giving orders to Di Ravellos troops.

it's a great game actually, if you're any bit a fan of Final Fantasy.

In Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, the voice actor for Captain Gabriel Angelo in the first Dawn of War also did Eliphas the Inheritor with a strikingly similar voice to Gabriel. I know voice actors do multiple things jobs, but the similarities in voice shouldn’t be ignored.
