    Civil War Movie Description:
In a dystopian future America, a team of military-embedded journalists races against time to reach Washington, D.C., before rebel factions descend upon the White House.
Civil War is a 2024 dystopian thriller film written and directed by British author Alex Garland, starring Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sonoya Mizuno, and Nick Offerman. The plot follows a team of war journalists traveling from New York City to Washington, D.C. during a fictional civil war fought across the United States between an authoritarian federal government and several secessionist regional factions, to interview the President before rebels take the capital city.
Principal photography began in Atlanta, Georgia in 2022, with production moving to London later in the year. Civil War premiered at South by Southwest on March 14, 2024, and was theatrically released in the United States by A24 and in the United Kingdom by Entertainment Film Distributors on April 12, 2024. With a budget of $50 million, Civil War is A24's most expensive film to date. The film has grossed over $121 million worldwide, becoming A24's second highest-grossing film, and received generally positive reviews from critics.

My opinion is that when they ran into the psycho "What kind of American are you", it affected the two women differently. Dunst's character was more shook up, like it was too much even for her. But the younger character was desensitized. It numbed her and that's why she turned into this unstoppable photographer. I also think the President's last line says something. When it was all said and done, all he cared about was not being killed. He showed no defiance, he did not claim to be right, he did not warn them that they would regret losing him. He groveled. He seemed powerful, being President three times, but he was actually a fake. He had no substance to him at all yet he had enough followers believing in him that it took a civil war to get rid of him.

Tactically speaking, there's a trade-off to using lights on a rifle. In a darkened building, it wouldn't really be worth it to switch off the lights for stealth, when there is a large unit at your back. Further, the lights aren't just there to help you see: they're there to blind whoever you point your weapon at. In this sense, they act as concealment.

I was also mad pissed when Lee died because Jessie wanted to get the shot, and then realized it was the perfect segue. Jessie BECAME Lee. Keep in mind I haven't seen the movie in like 2 months so my recollection may be off: earlier on in the movie Lee makes a comment about taking pictures of someone actively being shot/dying, and/or tells Jessie that if she gets shot, she would take pictures of it. It's all for the shot. Jessie doesn't understand that in the beginning, along with many other examples of her inexperience with war photography. By the time they're storming the White House, Jessie has begun to fully understand and love war photography. The adrenaline takes over and she is willing to do whatever it takes to get the shot. Inside the White House, as Jessie is in the hall getting the shot, Lee knew what she had to do-- in regards to both protecting Jessie and getting the photo. In that moment, both of them knew that Jessie would go for the shot, and that they were both willing to do whatever it took to get it. Jessie did exactly what Lee did earlier; it was the perfect callback that showed Jessie's progression to become the new Lee.

What I also find interesting is that the movie ends open in this regard. We don't know what Jessie is going to do afterwards. Will she keep the photo? Will she burn it?
Will she go on as a war photographer or is this already enough for her? Also it's Joel who pushes her forward in the end because if they get the quote and the photo at least everyone didn't die for nothing.

25:50 yes. Seeing as we create more weapons that shoot down military aircraft than anyone else, there would be no better place to find those weapons than within the US. If we had a civil war, I imagine people who worked for Lockheed, Northrop, Boeing, etc would be found on both sides, and would be able to access such weapons

I apologize if my initial comment came off as an insult or something directed towards you in a negative way. I’m more laughing at the fact that we, as a country, have no qualms with dumping unimaginable amounts of tax payer money into a black hole of weapons production, but are repulsed by the thought of funding welfare programs, public education, universal health care, etc. It’s as if we prefer the suffering of others over our own prosperity, and it’s that type of mindset that, in my opinion, creates conditions like this movie.

For all the crazy discourse and think pieces when the trailer came out, the film makes great decisions. it takes exactly what happens in modern warzones, all of it, and puts it somewhere familiar. this is pretty much what war at home would look like. More importantly, it's what it looks like when we invade or destabilize other countries. It's also what exactly happens to the leaders when they fall.

My understanding is that everyone wanted the movie to be more explicit in supporting their respective political views. Garland avoided that purposefully, because it’s actually a warning to everyone with uncompromising and extreme views.
As dumb as we are, we doubled down on the mindset he was trying to wake us up from, and ironically everybody hated the movie because it didn’t paint hard lines between “us, the good guys!” and “them, the bad guys.”

I don't know that there's evidence he refused to leave. It says he's serving a third term which means he got elected. FDR was elected four times, no one claims he REFUSED to leave office. The two-term limit is new in America and abnormal internationally. What we don't know is how he got the third term. What we do know is some states accepted it and some states saw it as their duty to secede/overthrow.

Then they let the viewer determine the motivations without needing any. It's kind of genius
