    For me the best value trail and road running kit is decathlon. Their kit and shoes are outstanding and incredible value. They do everything in one place and ordering from their website is easy and quick delivery. 👍

    Hi Loyd.. just wanted to post a message to say a big thank you for the limited edition “buff” that was waiting for me when I got in from work (can’t wait to try it out on tomorrow evenings run). Love the design and colours and more than all the hand written note, can’t say how much that cheered me up. Thanks again and still love the amazing videos you produce. 👍

    I have several pairs of the twin shorts and a few tees. All really good. One good thing I like about them personally is they cater for sizes larger than the usual racing snake body type.

    Great reviews and really useful for people on a budget. I do sometimes feel running companies charge what they think they can get away with, so good to see companies like Harrier selling quality goods at more sensible prices …. 👍

    I find that apart from things like jackets and shoes, so much regular running stuff easily transfers over to trail. I do have a sneaky suspicion that some clothing is suffering from the 'wedding cake syndrome' It's a fruit cake but suddenly, slap the word 'wedding' on it and it becomes 3 x the price! Same with trail clothing in some cases😏

      It sure does Ian, at the end of the day running is running 👍
      I was impressed with a lot of the budget apparel but if I was running long distances I'd still use the more technical kit. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Hope things are still heading in the right direction 🙏😊

    I’m a big fan of the standard higher state twin skin running shorts, I done my longest run in these (42 mile) and never had an issue with chafing, but would agree the zips they use are cheap and don’t last too long.

    Great video my top picks are the long sleeve half zip tops from higher state (ive got 6 of them) and I really like decathalons evadict shorts. Long compression socks from danish endurance and almost anything from UK brand Alpkit also would be intrested to see your thoughts on Janji's running gear they have a real fan base in the USA but have now come over to the UK

    Foil blankets have their place, also you don't want a rechargeable headtorch, you want one with batteries and carry spare batteries.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  4 месяца назад

      A foil blanket definitely doesn’t have a place if you’re running on the trails and this video was about affordable trail running kit. As far as a head torch goes, obviously a torch that you can take the batteries out and change over is a much better option. Ive actually mentioned this several times on the channel in the passed! This video was all about budget item and the head torch I choose was great value 👍

    Great video. I agree with you that investing in good running shoes is a must especially the technical stuff around here in Cornwall - your running shoe reviews have been invaluable to me - so thanks for that! For running apparel I do object to paying high prices for the big brands when there are smaller start-ups producing very similar quality items for a far lower price point and give you great value on return. Personally my go to for running gear is Alpkit which is a small (but growing) UK organisation producing quality kit. Their prices are fair, the company looks to have great ethics and I have never had an issue wearing their kit at all. I do like their running shorts - very comfortable to wear and have a large zip pocket (big enough for today's phones) and a couple of mesh pockets to stuff in a gel or two or to stow your gloves if your hands get to hot whilst out. How about checking out Alpkit Loyd? Thanks for all of the content - just brilliant!

    I have two of those Higher State long sleeve tops. They are good quality for the money. However showering this morning after a long run my nips screamed in disapproval! It was after a three hour run though. I should have taken precautions. Their socks are a bargain. I am lucky in that I live in walking distance of a decathlon store. Their stuff is usually good quality and very reasonable.

    I’ve got a Higher State waterproof jacket. Not very breathable but expensive ones often aren’t either IMO. I’ve been v happy with it. V affordable.
    Got Harrier’s Kinder vest. Didn’t love it - feels well made but rubs on me. Love some of their other kit though (flasks/straws, survival bag, buff)

    Fully agree mate, some things are a false economy, particularly shies and waterproofs. Definitely worth saving up for longer and getting a decent waterproof if you're going to be out for any time and you don't have to spend a fortune (I got a Salomon Bonatti Trail for £120 and it's fantastic). Shoes too, save a bit longer and you can often pick up something like a Saucony Peregrine on sale for around £80.

    Great video Loyd. Agree you need to be a bit more discerning with shoes and jackets!! I’ve had a few bits of kit from Harrier (dry bags, soft flasks, survival bag etc) and all are great. I also use Decathlon a lot for shorts and soft flasks and they are good too. A bit hit and miss as to whether they have them, but I’ve had some fantastic value running Tees from H+M over the years, that have lasted well and been really light weight …but I check them out in store, not all feel so good.

    Awesome 👏 👏 video Loyd and I have started to come back to this video for what jackets to buy...... I 'm very happy with my Harrier (super happy actually)... but it doesn't display the hydrostatic rating in the jacket - as I have a compulsory kit in my next race is that some thing to worry about..?

      Really glad you're happy with your Harrier jacket Stephen. The waterproof rating is 15000 so it will be fine for kit check. Not many jackets have the rating written inside them 👍

  • @chinyong8166

    Hi long time viewer and subscriber here. Thanks for your work and coverage. Please give me some shoe recommendations for huge volume training 100mile weeks. It'll mostly be tarmac. I get confused as to which cushioned shoe to try. I got a used pair of hoka challenger 5 thats my goto pair for the slow miles so I'm thinking of another hoka but for road or 1080 NB or similar. Need something to just glide painlessly on the roads day after day. My goto race trail shoe is the torrent 2 but theres no cushioning so end up with bruised feeling feet. Ive got a multiday race of about 40-50 miles a day hence trying to find out about road ultra shoes. Might end up getting different pairs with varying drops for the event just so that i can alternate between different foot strikes/cadence depending on the shoe.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  2 года назад +1

      Hi Chin
      Firstly thanks for watching and Subscribing to the channel it's really appreciated. I'd love to say that a shoe can do that but 100 miles a week and running ultras on the road is pretty tough! The road is such a harsh environment to run distance on compared to the trails. I'd say if you've been using the Challenger then the Clifton will feel very similar in fit and off set but the midsole is quite a bit softer 👍
      The 1080 is a very comfortable shoe as well but if you're use to Hokas, maybe the Clifton would be a better choice. Hope this helps and good luck with your training and the race! 🙏😊
