    Perfectly timed comparison video. Just the other day I did a SxS comparison of the two shoes on paper to determine which I should get next. I think I'm going for the Xodus as my feet are getting wider having Altra Timps and Lone Peaks in my rotation and the Xodus 1 didn't let my little toes wear through the upper until about 400 miles. The last Peregrine's I had didn't last anywhere near as well but I do still love them. Both are the greatest shoe for Dartmoor adventures running or walking. ❤

    Awesome review, thank you. And I think I may go with the 13, since I have the first Ultra and my runs are in the 8-15 mile range. Plus the added cushion over the 12, which I have, should make a difference as you said in cushioning.

    One of my favorite Saucony trail shoes was the Switchback 2. Not sure if it made it to Europe. It was a great shoe that used the BOA lacing system. It was great for technical trails, it didn't have a ton of grip but it worked great here in Colorado. And that BOA system was awesome.

    Another great video, thank you kindly. As a trail runner out here in San Diego California, that has the same sickness for running up big mountains, I’ve always felt very confident and good in the Saucony peregrine line, however, despite the lighter weight and more cushioning in the 13, I have found the newly designed rear facing 6 center lugs to be problematic, often times specially on the descent I’m slipping, and then it catches, unlike the previous paragraph that have all arrows in the back, facing back towards your heel, whereas with the 13 they chose for whatever reason to flip around the six main contact, patch heel arrows to face forward like the front of the shoe. I’ve also noticed that the quality durability of the outsole specially the lugs up towards the front of the foot wear down extremely quickly, like 40 to 60 miles and they’re already flat and cracking, which I never experienced in previous versions. I ran the cactus to clouds trail last weekend, about 17,000 feet of elevation gain and 21 miles, and numerous times the Peregrine 13 was slipping on the descents. So I’m goning try the xodus ultra 2 as I see that in this shoe, they maintained their traditional traction out so arrows in the rear, facing rear. I’m planning on running, power hiking up Mount Whitney in California next weekend, so it should be a good test for the xodus two’s. Thank you again for the great videos, I hope life is good over there in the UK. I’ve been over there, beautiful country. I was there at the brand hatch motor park when I was working with The IndyCar motorsport team, and I really enjoyed it over there.

    Been running in the Peregrine 11's over the winter and found them to be really connected and confident shoes to run in. However, training for my first Ultra and the Peregrine 11's didn't offer the comfort required for longer runs and gave me a blister due to the more snug fit. So I bought the new Xodus Ultra 2's and been breaking them in with the longest run so far being around 15miles. Completely agree they are more comfortable for longer runs and no blisters so far, but I do miss the amount of connection with the Peregrine's and have struggled a bit with some heal lift on the left foot, but it seems to go away the further I run. Still the Ultra 2's will be doing their first Ultra this weekend starting at Corfe Castle Dorset and will see if I made the right choice. Thanks for the great content its been really helpful.

    Xodus 2 is still not available in Japan but version one is an absolute bargain at 8800 yen (51 gbp). Ran a 45k race in them last weekend in rain and muddy mountain conditions and couldn’t be happier with the performance. Great review!

    Hi Loyd, great content as always! Like many others i was looking forward the comparison as my peregrine 10s are starting to get a bit tired... i could have a taste of the 13s in a decathlon store and felt much better than in the 12s even if the bouncy insole is quite surprising if you're not used to. I guess i'll have to pick a pair of xodus to know if the wider toebox would be better for my footshape, or if the higher stack height can cause me more instability. Oh gosh, lost again 😅
    Anyway, thanks Loyd for your great job and as always, greetings from Brittany 🙂

    I'm always on the lookout for a comfier ultra distance shoe. I'll likely try the Peregrine 13s (have the 10 & 12s) as I tried the Exodus V1 and found them a poor fit in the heel area and also too voluminous therefore sloshy in the midfoot and toe box.

  • @alexkhan2000
    @alexkhan2000 Год назад +1

    I love the Xodus Ultra which I've had for a while now and it's my favorite all-round trail running shoe. Added the Peregrine 13 recently and it's giving the Xodus Ultra a serious run for its money. It's more snug in fit in the upper and lighter for a faster and more nimble feel as well as having slightly better traction than the Xodus Ultra. I plan on adding the Xodus Ultra 2 soon although I still have plenty of miles left in the v1. The XU can feel a little loose in the toe box and it seems this version will be a little more snug, which I'd welcome. Also, it sure does look better. Saucony is killing it with their trail shoes. Not a big fan of their road shoes although they are still pretty good. But, when it comes to trail shoes, Saucony is at the top for me.

    I tried both of these and decided on the peregrine 13, the exodus just felt like a lot more shoe on my foot and so I’m surprised the weight is as close as it is - I love the peregrines, almost forget they are there and I too have found them great for my trail running which is fell/muddy and sone rock but not overly technical, great content 👍

    I had Xodus Ultra v1 but sold on as I just couldn’t get a good lock down on my heel. I’ve now got the v2 but although the heel and midfoot lockdown is much improved, the reduction in toe box and the very warm upper material is an instant fail. Frustratingly, a hybrid of v1 and v2 would be perfection for me. The toe box and upper material of v1 with the midfoot and heel lockdown of v2. I absolutely love the midsole feel and gutted I won’t be able to enjoy it. I’m now looking elsewhere for my marathon/long run trail shoe.

    Good luck to everyone with upcoming races! Always nice to hear about them.
    Here’s a question for anyone who happens to know or have experience in this area.
    I had knee surgery (microfracture) last year and have been told ‘no tarmac’ ever again (boo) but after 8 months building back up on treadmill am going g to head back outside but on trails. 🎉
    In my past experience of trails I used very minimal innovates with basically no cushion and maximal ground feel but now I’m wondering if that’s a good idea and am considering these two shoes-probably Xodus. Anyone have an opinion of ground feel versus cushion specifically for knee health? I don’t do ultras-just up to maybe 20k for fun and am a midfoot/forefoot runner and the knee issue is full thickness cartilage tears so I’ll be seeking out the softest ground I can find.
    Sorry for long message-just sure there’s someone out there who knows!!
    thanks !

    I used to run with Merrel or Innov8, and I recently re-discovered Saucony with the Kinvara 14 (definitely designed for road). They are very efficient (light weight?)

This really let the original down for me as around 500km they split at the flex point. While not insignificant distance I had expected more from a shoe pitched at longer efforts. My trusty Peregrine 11s on the other hand just refuse to die after 1300km+.

    Saucony Xodus Ultra 2 …
    My wife, a keen trail runner, has been an avid Saucony supporter for several years … recently, she started using the Xodus Ultra 2 trail shoes.
    Her first pair of the Ultra 2’s (bought November 2023) outer layer started tearing at about 200kms of use. We sent these in for investigation and Saucony South Africa’s first reaction was that it is her running style that was causing the tears ( she has been running for over 12 years now and used various competitive brands with no issues), however, Saucony ultimately replaced the shoes. These too failed … this time at 170km of use … same issue. So, we sent them back once more. Feedback was, the outer material might be tearing, but the inner membrane should stay intact … 🤷🏼‍♂️. Well the inner layer also started tearing a week later. We reached out to fellow runners, none of our group members run Saucony so we could not compare … Anyone else experience this? … the tears seem to start at the outer point of the toe crease.

    How does the Xodus fit compered with the Endorphin speed?

      The fit is quite similar Mike between the two shoes 👍

    I just wish saucony would increase their stack height by a couple mm and use a normal thickness midsole… The thick insoles ruin most of their shoes for me because I use insoles 😢

    I loved everything about the Xodus Ultra except the outsole is garbage for durability. Tore off half of 4-5 lugs after a single 10 mile hike in Sedona breaking in my first pair. Only got ~200 miles out of each of my 2 pairs before sections of the outsole were gone when I get ~350+ out of Salomons with Contagrip outsoles. If Saucony put Vibram outsoles on these in the same pattern they would be seriously next level - even if they cost $10-15 more.

    What would work better for wet but hard gravel and cobblestones?
    Peregrine 13 GTX vs Ride 15 TR GTX?

      I would always choose the trail shoe over a road shoe that's had a different outsole put on it 👍
      The Peregrine 13 would be my chose, hope this helps 🙏

      @@Run4Adventure thanks for the opinion! Would you say the GTX models are worth the trade off in performance?

      @Run4Adventure  11 месяцев назад +2

      @@POW9R No worries 👍 I'd personally never run in a "waterproof" shoe. I find they don't breath as well and if you get water inside the shoes it can't get out!

      @@Run4AdventureThat's valuable information to me, appreciate it.
      If we threw the Xodus 2 back in the mix for harder wet gravel surface, would you still choose it over the Peregrine?
      I'm on the wider side when it comes to foot width, so would benefit from the spacier toebox that it has.

    Exodus 2 vs speedgoat 5?

    • @sebran
      @sebran Год назад +4

      I have the Xodus V1 and the SG5. The midsole on the Xodus is on another level compared to the basic midsole in the SG. The SG upper is stretchy and has bad lockdown, while also being tight and somewhat uncomfortable. The Xodus has a more roomy fit with good lockdown. I am disappointed in the SG5 (loved the 4s), but absolutely love the Xodus. I’m a Hoka fan, but Saucony did it better in this case.

      @@DP-no1ny I haven’t seen a lot of channels cover the Ride 15 TR. maybe because it doesn’t have the fancy attributes as the other expensive shoes. To me, the Ride 15 TR does the job better than all of them. Most of the channels say the same MUTE points..”I don’t run in shoes converted to a TR version” WELL THEIR THE ONES MISSING OUT

      I mean i loved Xodus but ultra V1 is a nightmare due to the stitching between tongue and mesh rubbing on spot the first bone of my big toe and i can't bear more than a few km
