  • Casual voiceover podcast and timelapse! Originally made back in December for patrons and now it is here for you, the public of youtube! Let's talk about how being uninspired or having art-block can sometimes lead to the best ideas!
I know there have been some requests for other tutorials. They will be coming eventually, but since the amount of time I have to make tutorials is limited to about 1 a month, what tutorial is made next is decided completely by Patrons. If you want to help decide and cast your vote, and get access to a bunch of exclusive tutorials and rewards you can hop on over there.

I have been feeling super uninspired for a couple months now, every time I begin to sketch something I never like it. On top of that I still feel like there are so are so many things in Clip Studio that I dont know how to do. I hope I get that passion I had back when I got my tablet and get back on it one day.

    Thank you for this.
I haven't drawn in a year now. I just can't bring myself to do it because I, for some reason, convinced myself that no one would want to see it anyway and that it's not good enough. In the end I would just be disappointed that the result didn't meet my expectations and I end up being even more judgemental with my own art creations.
But seeing how beautiful your artwork came out, even though you started with absolutely no inspiration or motivation, it really inspires me. Your character turned out as such an amazing and breathtaking beauty that I'm now thinking that I should try it too. As you said, it doesn't need to be my best work. It just needs to bring me out of my stupid bed that I'm laying on and start drawing again. It's a start at least.
So thank you for sharing your struggles and your artwork. I didn't know how much I needed this until I saw it.

This is the same way I write characters and stories. The characters finds me, and I work on them and it all evolves and develops by itself. But I must be almost distraction free. It is my workspace, the characters, the story world, and my mind only. Just the support of my loved ones is needed on top of that.

allot of what you said resonates with me and past Art Instructor of mine. he always said "when an artist is lost and lacks inspiration, they without knowing free themself from limitations."
allot of times we limit ourself by inspirations. I find myself doing some of my best work, when i just simple draw without any plan in mind. just drawing raw, letting my muse come to me.

i love this. and it's actually how many of my own story ideas start.
i differentiate in general two vastly different approaches to character design. one is "the search". you know who they are, but you don't know what they look like. one may draw multiple designs in search of the person in question. as if you would be scanning a large crowd. then you draw IT. and you know. this is them "hello. i've been looking for you."
the other is the one you demonstrated here. maybe you could call it "the blind date". or "the interview" ? in which first draw then wonder "who are you ? what are you doing here, and what's your story?"
i think many large studios tend to go on "the search". but there is something so exciting and serendipitous about the "blind date", that the first method just cannot reach.

I think the thing for me when dead on inspiration or art burn out is backgrounds. I want to add backgrounds to add depth, but get lost in the process and give up. But you made it seem easier thru your process. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much for talking about this! I've been pretty uninspired lately (partly because of school, but I got some ideas from your 'finding motivation' video to help with that!) I never thought of random portraits like this and I loved the little snippet of writing that you did! I've been following you on twitter for a while and adore your style, I hope to find some motivation in your tutorials/videos as well because your art pieces are inspiring tbh!

Thank you for putting up this video! It resonated with me, because the burn out really crashed into me hard for the last few months. It had gotten to the point I didn't respect my own style, because I felt like it wasn't good enough, pretty enough, and so on and so forth. I hit 'what's the point' mode. I know I was going through the usual 'you are your own worst critique' deal, because I could still look back at my old work and admire the fact I've grown so much for the last decade. Didn't help some of the toxic habits that art college had taught me before I graduated still left a few scars, and I had to care take an ailing and dying grandmother for the better part of 2020-2021. It took me on an inspiration and motivation nose dive, needless to say, and I crashed and landed in the dirt this year.
But I finally dusted off Blender a month back (I haven't touched it since I downloaded it back in high school of 2012). And honestly, it's making me enjoy art again. I've already done two tutorials (slowly), and I'm really enjoying the different process it takes to get from point a, to point b, and to the final render. I guess my point is that I recently learned that it's okay to try something so completely different and out of your comfort zone in order to get that drive back. I'm not betraying my drawing muse just because I'm doing something beyond different, and maybe one day, the two can intermix with each other. I promised myself that once I start to get a better grasp, then I'll create my ocs as 3d models...but for now I'm using tutorials to ease my way into the program. My brain can't even attempt to judge me hard like it once did for drawing haha!
Beautiful piece of art, I love the design and the colors are absolutely gorgeous!~

What are your thoughts about unfinished drawings? Like when you are so into something and then you just get bored, or distracted, or just don't find the desire of getting back to it. 2 month later and still wanting to get back to it but is like a burden or something. I have ADD and I so try to finish something but is so hard to not get distracted. I have like 4 or 5 drawings unfinished because of not knowing how to deal with finishing it or getting back to it.
Love your portraits. You do such a great work. So unique and inspiring.

I'm in the exact same place with a lot of my drawings. The best advice I can give is to change it up a bit so its visually interesting to you again - i find that neglected pieces get that way because the piece isn't really interesting enough for us to get back into drawing. Whether you change the composition, colour palette etc. I find that helps a lot

I was exploring you channel today and thought by myself god i need to hear something from you right now and then you upload this :)
But beside the uninspiring, these days i feel I lost all of my skills that I can't even draw a simple face any more..
and the voices in my mind keep yelling You're not an Artist, you are just delusional
