13:55 Well, if you recall, it was pretty easy for the kitchens to glitch out and your whole dining experience to be ruined or to be stuck in your booth forever. I think it is most likely to minimize errors and loading. However, yes, The Sims 3 did cop out severely but just making restaurants a rabbit hole. Just have the kitchen be a rabbit hole and have the waiter magically come out with food, that should have reduced the probability of error and still allowed for a more involved experience.
Being able to go to downtown was cool - The biggest problem with Hot Date (also Unleashed, Super Star, and Makin' Magic), is that it simply wasn't fun to actually leave your lot and go to the areas introduced in these expacs. 1) Back in the day, these areas easily had 60s+ loading times and it got worse with every expansion (oh bless modern technology) 2) You could at most enjoy yourself for about 10 minutes before your sim was left utterly miserable and you had to return home. The only ones I actually liked going to were the areas introduced in Vacation, in large part because you could actually take care of your sim there and could therefor hang around for a lot longer than 10 minutes at a time.
Of course! It may have had some lackluster expansions recently, but the game is still something I come back to every so often. Really looking forward to Sims 3 Seasons coming this fall.
They are pretty hard to crack open. I think a lot of it might have to do with their interests clashing lol. I started up the sims 1 the other day and EVERYONE hated my sim, she was so depressed and lonely because when she would try to talk to people she'd just get rejected since they didn't share interests, and nothing else would work (like bragging obviously ain't gonna work on a -10 relationship) I gave up on that sim, made another, and everyone fuckin' loved her. I don't know why but that game sometimes makes it hard on someone for the sake of making it hard... I kind of do wish that TS4 had the interest system lol. It's way easier now to manage your social need so it'd be amazing!

It's funny how some features of The Sims 1 are arguably better than the Sims 2, 3 and 4. 1. No Lag. Well, it's pretty much expected not to lag, it's isometric, not fully 3D. 2. REALLY Short Loading Times. If the Sims 4 was like this, it'd be fine. But nope, 30 Second Loading Screens from The Sims 4. 3. Active Community Lots. As an example, and as LGR himself said, there are so many more Sims doing things on lots. And you can actually see inside the lots! The Sims 3 gives you a text box saying what's happening. And you're probably saying. ''It's because of the open world'' and if it is then how did houses of other Sims just load from the world and not community lots? 4. So many more community lots. There are more types of community lot, and I AM referring to this game with either Hot Date or Unleashed installed as those are the two expansions that added Community Lots. As for me, I have the Complete Collection so I am listing this. 5. The Graphics. It's been said, and I agree with this, that The Sims 4 looks tacky, and not as decent as the other games, even The Sims 1, is better. How? Well, Isometric games look beautiful when they're done right. The Sims 1 is a prime example of this. It may be the Retro Game blood in my veins, but I don't like all these HD, Cinematic Graphics all that much. Just give me fun gameplay and I like it. The Sims does this. 6. The Simplicity. The Sims 1 is so simple, where as the other games, are complicated in so many ways. For example, The Sims 1 contains a few things in each category, the other games have SOOO much and you're thinking: What's the difference? It's Quality over Quantity. And it seems that the later games just think: More stuff is better. They'll like it and EA, learn that we don't care about the amount of things, just give us GOOD things. The Sims 1 has a unique charm that most of the other games have not been able to fill. The quirkiness of the game is so funny. And what makes it the best, is that you create these stories! And this was me running this on a good gaming quality PC for the time. LGR is playing this now on a more modern PC and therefore it loads super fast. Honestly, The Sims 4 is the fastest loading and running The Sims game yet at present technology. All the previous games were very slow on the computers that were available at the time. Hell, The Sims 4 could never ever compare to the loading nightmare that is The Sims 3, which even now takes FOREVER to do ANYTHING! I do remember The Sims 1 fondly, but it was very simplistic and not very visually appealing (the furniture may still look good but the character models really do look ugly, I'm sorry) and got tedious fast, even with expansions. I cannot speak for most of the expansion packs for 2,3, and 4 because I wasn’t as invested in those games, but from what I have seen, The Hot Date ep was the best in the series. The first time you are able to leave the house, the way they categorized the buy/build catalog, the added social options, this pack added so many features that revolutionized and changed the game.
This is the EP that first got me into The Sims. I saw my cousin playing it a lot when we’d go to our grandparents house during Christmas and the summer. Enabler! I’m totally addicted now! 🤣
i definitely hope so. i used to have a copy of The Sims Deluxe but that vanished, and i only found a weak copy of the base game. the closest i can come to those expansion packs right now and satisfy some nostalgia is to watch LGR play them.
This brings back so many memories. I never knew what the hell to do with this game but I knew I loved it! Sims 2 and 3 will be great in their own ways but nothing will ever compare to this one.
Seasons... just the introductory stuff I've been seeing about it easily makes it one of the must-have expansions for Sims 3; being able to swim in ANY water, more public events, 'OFB' style community lots, and new ways to watch sims live (and die) from living in bizarre architecture... vastly superior to just adding a social aspect and a WHOLE 3 new almost-identical careers.

I never had any of the expansion packs for the first game because I didn't know they existed. XD By the time I found out, I already had The Sims 2 and I was content without any expansions. I had The Sims 2 and The Sims 2 Pets for the PS2 and I had The Sims 2 for the PSP. Now I have The Sims 3 for PC with the Late Night expansion and the High-End Loft Stuff. Though, I sometimes go back to the original Sims game for PC just for nostalgia. I love it. :3

Man this version of the sims is so much better than the tripe they have out now IMHO. When I get home from Europe, I am getting the complete collection. And thats going to be my summer.
@phreakindee You know probably the biggest reason why there are fewer sims appearing on lots in the Sims 3 probably has to do with the frame rate. In the earlier sims games, the processor only had to deal with what was going on on one lot at a time, not an entire town like Sunset Valley. There's probably a similar reason as to why they are not showing as much now.
Sims 1 (including all of its expansion packs) is far superior to anything to follow... Although the Sims 2 does hold a special place in my heart as well but the original cannot be beat.
Right? But hey, it wouldn't be the first time the guys at EA lied. I can't completely bash them because they seem to be creating new content for their expansion packs, like Island Paradise, but it's not exactly what I want in my game.

I wish they had kept the Call Cab feature in The Sims 3. Now in The Sims 3 you can go out into your neighborhood and around town, but you can't go into like a separate "Downtown" like area
That strange dark room is a phenomenon of the late 90s, early naughties (much like inflatable furniture)- the sensory room. Another short-lived American fad where people would just lie back in a dimly-lit room and listen to relaxing crap on headphones, and pay for the experience.

This is the only expansion I couldn't convince my parents to buy me because they didn't like the connotations of "Hot Date"

Thank you so mutch for this. I have a heart for classic sims games. Your LP are a great tribute to what is the best of the sims games. Not a big fan of newer ones but there nice in there own way too.
Man this version of the sims is so much better than the tripe they have out now IMHO. When I get home from Europe, I am getting the complete collection. And thats going to be my summer.
Because you're looking in the wrong places. You can normally grab it on eBay or Amazon for $30 or less.

You know probably the biggest reason why there are fewer sims appearing on lots in the Sims 3 probably has to do with the frame rate. In the earlier sims games, the processor only had to deal with what was going on on one lot at a time, not an entire town like Sunset Valley. There's probably a similar reason as to why they are not showing as much now.
The Duke Nukem voice in the tub makes it ever more funny! And slightly awkward...
Sims 1 (including all of its expansion packs) is far superior to anything to follow... Although the Sims 2 does hold a special place in my heart as well but the original cannot be beat.
Hot Date and Vacation were my favourite expansion packs for The Sims.
I might try out some of the console games now that I have a method of recording them properly. Shall see!
Right? But hey, it wouldn't be the first time the guys at EA lied. I can't completely bash them because they seem to be creating new content for their expansion packs, like Island Paradise, but it's not exactly what I want in my game.

I couldn't agree more. I really think they should allow people to actually see inside of buildings in Sims3. That would be awesome!

I have hated the Sims series with a passion! There is NOTHING about any of the Sims games that I care to experience. However, I really enjoyed your review not for the game itself but your take on the character's interactions. Dude you are hysterical! Great job.

its weird i loved hot date, it was one of my favourite expansions ever but sims 2 version was pretty redundant for me and i haven't even got the sims 3 version yet (if ever).

I wish they had kept the Call Cab feature in The Sims 3. Now in The Sims 3 you can go out into your neighborhood and around town, but you can't go into like a separate "Downtown" like area

That strange dark room is a phenomenon of the late 90s, early naughties (much like inflatable furniture)- the sensory room. Another short-lived American fad where people would just lie back in a dimly-lit room and listen to relaxing crap on headphones, and pay for the experience.
