So many eloquent people on this comment thread pointing out the lyrics silliness of the song. I only wish most of the garbage music we listen to nowadays was this silly...
I didn't think her voice was that horrible. Madonna's voice is just as bad and both had great music and were extremely successful. Loved Paula Abdul's music
This is one of the most underrated tracks. It’s like 3 songs in one. The producer was a genius. This song was made for live performance. It sounds so good performed live!
It's utterly great with a killer groove until 1:49 when the gimmicky "spooky" haunted house voice comes on along with her Betty Boop whimpers. Get rid of those. They make it sound like a "novelty" song as they used to say and not the great dance track it is.
@@arundelmercure553 I get what you're saying but the whole song seems to have a P-Funk tribute thing going on (Horny horns!) and that part sounds very very Parliament-y
I am very surprised this song didn't perform as well on the Hot 100. It peaked at #16 in early 1992, and snapped her 3-year string of top 10s. Underrated song that doesn't get much airplay anymore. I loved it.
Early 1992 saw the pretty massive shift in popular music towards grunge, hip hop, adult contemporary ballads and Eurodance. Looking at the Hot 100 charts of Feb/March 1992 when this song peaked a lot of music that sounded like Paula’s was already on its way out

@@jamesevans957 Since you’re the second person to disagree with me about this,I guess I will have clarify what I mean when I say that I think it is underrated. I am saying that I feel that it is underrated when compared to her first record, “Forever Your Girl”. “Forever Your Girl,” was a big hit record that has sold 7 million copies in the US alone and it produced four number 1 songs. While “Spellbound,” went on to sell 3 million records in the US. It did have two number one songs,”Rush Rush” and “Promise of a New Day”. All in all it too was a hit record, but just not nearly as big a hit as “FYG” I think “Spellbound” is just as good of a record as”FYG” is. Yet it sold less than half as many copies. I think that if more people decided to buy the record then they would also appreciate that it is a good one. 3 million records is a lot but when compared to her first record I think more people should have bought it because it is just as good of a record.
One of my favorite songs from this album, aside from Rush, Rush, and Blowing Kisses in the Wind. I love when Paula laughs in the one part of the song. She sounds like a little kid laughing.
Patricia Brower Correction: she was a famous cheerleader that became a professional dancer and choreographer. Them she became a pop star and then a TV show personality.
I don't know if Paula paid to have all her videos remastered or Virgin Records.......but THANK you to whomever! This video really needed remastered. Much clearer now.
People should not hate on Paula Abdul. Does she have the best voice on the planet? No, but it doesn’t mean she “can’t sing.” She’s a performer, like Madonna or Britney Spears. Paula was such a sensation. Before I went into my hard rock, punk, and heavy metal hole, I loved her songs. The album Spellbound was a guilty pleasure. I think I was 11 when it came out, and I wouldn’t admit to anyone I liked pop music except for Madge (Madonna). I feel dumb now, but oh well. Now I’m loud and proud. I love that whole album, even more than Forever Your Girl, I think. This was one of my favorite songs on the album, and I’m so glad it is longer on the album. I would listen to Vibeology on repeat through my headphones while playing Super Mario Bros 3 on my NES. I think Paula Abdul is an amazing pop artist who can dance like no one else’s business. She is also a vision. She’s still so beautiful even now. People need to get off her about her pain medication as well. When you dance and choreograph the way she does, you are going to get hurt. It’s like a sport. No one gets on the professional athletes for being on pain meds after many surgeries, you shouldn’t get after dancers either. The strain dancing can put on your body is really intense depending on the style, and she does it all. I wish she was a judge on SYTYCD. I love Paula Abdul, and I hope she comes out with new music because I will always give it a listen.
This video is everything I love about early 90s vids. The staging, the cuts, the way Paula is featured, EVERYTHING. Much LOVE to the aforementioned Queen’s cause I would have never found this one sadly.

Paula Abdul’s dancing is mesmerizing. She is the epitome of dancing and upbeat songs.
This song takes me back to my childhood. I always wondered if Prince had something to do with this song because to me it has a "Princey" vibe to it.
Prince produced it. Peter Lord worked with him at Paisley Park. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spellbound_(Paula_Abdul_album)
I use to listen to her a lot when i was a teenager
Prince produced a different song on the album, but this does have his feel to it. She's a big fan of his.

Some background vocals sounds even exactly like Prince's voice, and his style of chorus. The whole song breaths Prince.
