Got the Irix 30 mm myself for my Sony Fx6. A fantastic lens/fit.. Thanks. Waiting for Irix to come out with a 60, 75 og maybe a 85 mm. They have said that they will be releasing a new lens early this year.
Beautiful work! Just posted a little review of the 30 mil and did a little horror short with it. I think that focal length is a great compromise especially for indoors where you don't have as much space.
Thanks for your review. I've been considering between the Vespids and Irix for awhile now but decided to go the DZO route. The faster aperture of the Irix is a bonus but the footage I've seen from Irix hasn't grabbed me for some reason and looks more clinical.
I'm more of a fan of DZO. I like the 35mm focal length over the 30. Plus, I shoot on a Sigma FP, so I can switch to the super 35 mode and get a full, almost perfect 50mm focal length. I do like the magnetization of the front barrel on these. That would work very well with the Freewell ND system. But for me, the 35mm Vespa is probably what I will be going with.
@@lkptlst3256 They're not photo lenses with cinema housing. They're designed for cinema. Our 30mm photo lens came after our cinema version and uses the cine design, not the other way around.
After a long time of working the IRIX Cine Lenses I decided to move to the Vespid Primes. I am really stucked up with these stiff focus rings of the Irix Cine. I thought after some time it could be come better. But It does not. The focus throw of the Vespid is much smoother.
I have the 30mm and 45mm Irix cine lenses and the focus and aperture rings are super smooth, I love these lenses. That's unlucky your one wasn't. How do the Vespids compare image-wise?
@@rickskellig4652 I am happy that I have the Vespids now. Much smoother and ideally for handheld filming. Image quality is really nice and a bit of cinematic.
You say at 8:20 that "being a 30mm on a crop sensor feels closer to 35mm on a full frame". This seems to me like a misguided feeling. The BMP6K has a crop factor of 1.6x, so this lens is about 48mm on a full frame. If you have a thing for 35mm FF lenses, then this lens should not get you close to the feeling of a 35mm FF. Might it rather be the case that you are drawn to 50mm FF lenses instead of 35mm? Amazing review, nonetheless! Been watching your channel, quality content!
I bought the 45 and the 15 after watching your vids back in the day. Using it with my 6K Pro and 6K for a local tv show we are shooting the second season of soon. However, I’ve noticed lately that locking the focus on quite well has been more difficult even with focus peaking lines on.
Great rundown of the lens, been actually looking into this one with my BMPCC’s as well. Random question…the opening music track. Where is that one from?
The latest carbon fiber XEENs are nice. The previous gen were def not worth it as while the big housing was cool and Cine lens like the actual optics were no sharper than their budget DS line.
I don’t currently have any IRIX lenses but they have been on my radar for a while now! I’m currently shooting with a Fuji X-T4, most of the time with an adapted Sigma 18-35mm. Great lens! Looking forward to your next video, thanks and great content as always :)
What I want to ask you. Is it worth adding the 150mm Macro to a 30mm and 45mm setup? Do you often use this lens in your productions? Thanks for answer!
150 macro is definitely a specialty lens that I do not grab for all or even most of my shoots. If you want macro stuff it’s a breathtaking lens for many reasons but in my opinion the 30, 45 etc have such amazing minimal focus distances those do the job for pretty damn close shots.
Great vid! I have the 15, 21 and 45 so far in PL for use on my Sony F55, Canon R5C + hired Alexa Mini, LF and Alexa 35. Annoyingly my 45mm is an older version and there’s a design issue stopping it being able to go on Alexa PL mounts :( I love the 21 so much, will definitely get the 30mm next and wait on that tighter focal length to complete the set, hopefully soon 🤞

I purchased the 45mm after seeing your review of it and absolutely love the lens! I plan to build the entire set.

Would love to see how these lenses render on a super high resolution sensor like the Ursa or something in 8K.
I did a review of the ursa 12K and only used these lenses (well the once’s that existed at the time.

dzo is way better
this lenses looks like photo lenses with cinema housing, i dont like that digital sharpness.

DZO doesn't have L mount options, how do you use it on the Sigma FP? You need a PL to L converter...
@@marcopreti4854 The Sigma FP uses the Leica L mount. Our lenses are available in the Leica L mount so you won't need a converter.

I think he is referring to the 35mm look, as in film maybe? and not necessarily 35mm on a crop sensor, which would be close to a 22mm lens

Hi Michael, thanks for your thoughts. What would you prefer if you could choose: Xeen or Irix? I'm at a crossroads :)

I have good news for you and myself (shooting X-H2s ) . The full IRIX line up is coming for X-mount very soon !!!
35mm lover here. I'm really interested in checking out the 30mm by IRIX. My pro stuff is shot on the C70 so hopefully this is a beautiful pairing!

Thanks man, you helped me make a better choice
Does it have internal focus hard stops for use with DJI focus motor?

please make anamorphic lens small compact 2x slightly bigger than s35.....
They are also very difficult to balance on the gimbal 😂 but I still love them
Sirui Jupiter T2 24mm macro is my first
Why do you call it "portrait lens" when these are cine lenses?
first hehe
