Best review so far on these gorgeous lenses that convinced me to push the button on a limited offer for 45mm t1.5 Ef mount lens! Good job man! And thanks for your great review (I think the magnetic hood is a plus, too)
I use a tiffen 1/2 pearlescent and it really gives that nice soft halation and skin softening. I researched a lot and learned that pro mists and glimmer glass have really ugly patterns in large bokeh balls when you’re shooting wide open, almost like you have a dirty sensor. The pearlescent doesn’t. Something to consider 😊. It’s not a big deal at all if there isn’t significant bokeh but when there is I feel it looks ugly
Superb review, thanks, and it looks fantastic in 6k. I've long been pondering which FF lens route to go for a Z Cam E2 F6, and am torn between these and the Vespids. I prefer the Vespid's bokeh and lower weight for gimbal work, plus the wider range of lenses currently available, but am still very tempted by the Irixs. It would be great it they would publish their future plans for these lenses so we know whether we're buying into a potential set... or not.
Just bought this lens. It's beautiful. It's one of the few lenses that make me say wow. I've seen a few shots with this that really blow my mind. Now just to pick what camera it'll go on, lol. Looking to buy my first cinema camera.

Oh yeah! Made 2 other videos of the 15mm cine and 150mm macro cine. I am in love with the lenses and am convinced for the price there’s nothing that compares on the current market if you’re wanting to shoot films. Theres not too much character to the lenses in terms of a “unique” look. I tell people it has a sharp cinematic look. Which means it’s not the ugly digital cheap look with bad highlight roll off but just a very pleasing ultra sharp with low focus breathing look *chefs kiss*. For a film the only thing to know is all 3 have very different wide open apertures. The 15mm and 45mm get sharp edge to edge around T4-5.6. Hope that helps

The funny thing is XEEN isn't much sharper than the budget Samyang DS cine line (I watched a comparsion with two 24mm, or two 85mm lenses), so I bet the Irix can be sharper than both of them ( I assume).
michael: Don't forghet to whatch this in 6k me: I really would but everything could catch on fire :( I have a sony a6000, a crappy pc and a 1080p monitor. My internet can't even load 4k video
From what I’ve seen the new XEENs are nice with their carbon fiber housing that certainly will make them lighter. But I believe the optics haven’t changed much and the optics aren’t a world of different from their DS line which I used for the first 5-7 years of my career. Good but definitely softer than a pro cine lens should be. I personally would still choose IRIX cine line and save a bunch of money for better features lol
Yeah, definietly funny, because 24mm is one really widely used focal length in Hollywood. It appears in the budget Samyang (Rokinon) DS and XEEN lineup, and Canon produces 24mm cinema lenses too. One possible answer is they don't have a 24mm photography lens they can copy, and maybe they didn't want to develop a completely new lens (yet). Most if not all Samyang (Rokinon) DS lens has a photography lens equivalent using f stops and a smooth surface on the focus and aperture ring (probably no more difference).

@@initialfocus Cool. I meant your delivery to camera. Cheers.
How does Irix compare to Xeen
The funny thing is XEEN isn't much sharper than the budget Samyang DS cine line (I watched a comparsion with two 24mm, or two 85mm lenses), so I bet the Irix can be sharper than both of them ( I assume).
insane man
michael: Don't forghet to whatch this in 6k
me: I really would but everything could catch on fire :(
I have a sony a6000, a crappy pc and a 1080p monitor. My internet can't even load 4k video
My internet gives me a frowning dirty look whenever I try to watch 4K haha
Would you recommend this lens over the XEEN T1.5 primes?
From what I’ve seen the new XEENs are nice with their carbon fiber housing that certainly will make them lighter. But I believe the optics haven’t changed much and the optics aren’t a world of different from their DS line which I used for the first 5-7 years of my career. Good but definitely softer than a pro cine lens should be. I personally would still choose IRIX cine line and save a bunch of money for better features lol
Ok. I want it.
*Sith voice* .........Do it.
I wish they made a 24mm
Yeah, definietly funny, because 24mm is one really widely used focal length in Hollywood. It appears in the budget Samyang (Rokinon) DS and XEEN lineup, and Canon produces 24mm cinema lenses too. One possible answer is they don't have a 24mm photography lens they can copy, and maybe they didn't want to develop a completely new lens (yet). Most if not all Samyang (Rokinon) DS lens has a photography lens equivalent using f stops and a smooth surface on the focus and aperture ring (probably no more difference).
