How do I know they are these are the 5 Most Popular Whiskey Cocktails? I posted a poll on both the YT channel and on Reddit and received over 2,000 votes. It was pretty clear that the Old Fashioned was the most popular by a long shot.

OLD FASHIONED
The ‘modern’ version of the old fashioned was thought to be created back in the 1880s at the Pendennis Club when a patron asked for a drink in the Old Fashioned way. The bartender created a bittered sling but served it over ice and with a twist of orange, therefore creating the old fashioned.
- 60mL Bourbon / Rye Whiskey (2 oz)
- 2 Dashes of Angostura
- Sugar Cube
- Orange Twist
WHISKEY SOUR
The whiskey sour was first printed on a menu back in 1856 and was originally served over crushed ice. It wasn’t until the 1890s that the egg white was incorporated.
- 60mL Bourbon Whiskey (2 oz)
- 22.5mL Fresh Lemon Juice (¾ oz)
- 22.5mL Simple Syrup (1:1) (¾ oz)
- Egg White
- Dash of Angostura
MANHATTAN
The back story of the Manhattan is a little hazy but we are led to believe that it was created at New York’s Manhattan Club back in the 1880s.
- 60mL Rye Whiskey (2 oz)
- 30mL Sweet Vermouth (1 oz)
- 2 Dashes of Angostura
- Maraschino Cherry
SAZERAC
The Sazerac is believed to be created in New Orleans in 1850 by the creator of Peychaud’s Bitters which is still used within the drink to this day. The original recipe called for cognac but there was a shortage on grapes 15 years on and the drink was then made using rye whiskey.
- 60mL Rye Whiskey (2 oz)
- 2 Dashes of Peychauds Bitters
- 1 Sugar Cube
- Absinthe Rinse
IRISH COFFEE
The Irish Coffee was first made in the 1940s by an Irish bartender for Americans. He slipped in a nip of whiskey into each coffee and when they questioned “is this Brazilian coffee” he exclaimed “no, it’s Irish Coffee” and the name stuck.
- 45mL Irish Whiskey (1½ oz)
- 2 Tsp of Brown Sugar
- Hot Coffee
- Pouring Cream

"NO COCKTAILS WERE WASTED DURING THE FILMING OF THIS VIDEO" cinematic haha
Just want to tell you how much I appreciate the big smile you give every time you shake.
Who watches this channel to look at Steve and be happy ??? Love your work Steve as well... everything.
Thanks Big Kahona!! Some times I think I look a bit grumpy 😊
Steve the Bartender that’s called charm and character
Really enjoyed how you added the history/origins of the cocktails. Great idea! 👍🏻
Thanks Fabio! A few cheeky fun facts without being overloaded with info 👍
Steve regarding the coffee glass: "as you can see, they're quite small."
Me: "That's OK. I'll have two."
The old fashioned remindes me of good times i had with my neighbor. She was in her 80s back then i was in my 20s and hard to keep up with her. Thanks again Steve for sharing
Welcome Lorra! She sounds like a strong lady..
Old fashioned is life, but Irish coffee is always tasty 😋
May keep you awake though at the wrong time.
@@bighands69 yeah but originally it was invented to wake people up after long flights.
The original commercial intercontinental flights landed in ireland and the planes had very bad insulation. So everyone was very cold n tired.
We didn't drink coffee (tea is traditional) but the American passengers did. So we got coffee in for them and mixed in some whiskey to make them feel like the were in Ireland.
Hi, Steve yet again some great content.
Invented this after watching this video.
ODIN Juice!
Add all ingredients into a Boston shaker. Add plenty of ice and shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Pour directly into a chilled collins glass.
45 ml Makers Mark Bourbon whiskey
10ml Honey Syrup 3:1
5 ml Vanilla Syrup
120 ml Semi-Skimmed milk
.

Irish coffee is definitely my favorite! It just warms me straight to the soul~
I love how you talking about, so enthusiastic about it!
Check out the poll results in a beautiful looking column graph!! 😂 stevethebartender.com.au/5-most-popular-classic-whiskey-cocktails/
im a bartender for nearly 2 and a half years now I love it watching these vids has acc helped me expand my knowledge
thanks
I'm glad you missed the glass with the angostura bitters. I've never managed to avoid spilling some.
WHEW!!! so happy to hear no cocktails went to waste!!
Definitely not... I was quite wasted after drinking them though as we make them twice for the footage!
My thought exactly ]:D
Love an Old Fashioned but i usually use a bourbon cause that’s what I have on hand more often
Like all of your videos. Very good, simple for everyone to understand and remember. Also very interesting.
Cheers Steve! Love it!
I love this man's presentation so much
Just commented yesterday about all the whiskey recipes on this channel! Great vid man
Thanks Honey Badger!
Old Fashion, Manhattan and Sazerac are my faves. I make a version of Manhattan with Vermont maple syrup and black walnut bitters - yum! I marinate my own bing cherries for the Old Fashion and Manhattan. 👍🏼
Live the video. No annoying over the top personality or music. Just chill, to the point, with a bit if charm still!
Great video, dude! Love me an old-fashioned, and bourbon/rye in general.
I like using a simple syrup I made myself for an old-fashioned. Did a 2:1 rich simple syrup with 1 part brown sugar and 1 part white sugar. Since I simmered it just a little bit, it actually stabilized and lasted quite a while in my fridge. Although on its own it tastes a little bit like pancake syrup, the molasses flavour from the brown sugar does nifty things with the bourbon.
Steve, you're a great bartender, great presentation. Thank you for this beautiful presentation.
You're definitely my favourite cocktail youtuber by far
That’s the best looking Irish coffee I’ve seen, delicious. Floated that cream like a boss too lol
Manhattan and Old Fashion are my two favorites.
That glass you put the coffee in is beautiful
A great channel. I really like the recipes and the stories behind them were interesting. Thank you!
Thanks Jozef! Glad you're enjoying the vids =)
Great video mate defo be making afew of these 👍
Love that Hudson rye. Used to live up the Rd from the distillery. Mmmmmm, good times
Great selections!! 💯💯
The Old Fashioned and Manhattan are my go too. But after watching this I may have to try that Sazerac.
Yum Yum Yum... all those drinks look yummy! Thanks!
All my favorite whiskey cocktails in one place! Cheers my man!
Thank you sir fantastic
Very glad to see this channel steadily climbs up in production quality in comparison with early videos.
And of course, I like that Steve is giving the impression of a honest, calm and humble person. Qualities of a professional.
Thanks for the kind words! I still cringe watching my older vids! 😬
I've always muddled a orange slice with simple syrup for my Old Fashioned then add the rest of the stuff. Def going to try your recipe
Whisky Sour has to be my favorite. A well made Old Fashioned is next in this lineup, although I prefer an Improved Whisky Cocktail a bit more.
Yes but his whiskey sour is actually something else. You can't just add or take stuff or change ratios and use the plain standard name...
Hi there ! Thanks to give us the subtitles ! Enjoy the rest of your day !
great channel mate! quick question..any options when you don't have absinthe for the sazerac?
Great content mate!
Cheers John! 🍻
Great video! The drop of water on the sugar cube is a great tip. I'm coming to Australia for a cocktail from you, good sir.
Thanks mate! I don’t have a bar but maybe soon! 😁
@@StevetheBartender_ You will knock it out of the park the day you do. Just be sure to have a bottle of TX whiskey on hand for me.
the old fashioned the way you made it is the way i make mine i love how the spice of the Rye balances it out
Love the Sazerac
when you use bitters to do the garnish, after the drops run a cocktail stick through the 3 circles, it turns them into 3 little hearts , :D
Yes it does 👍
Irish Coffee, yep he smiles and everyone smiles.
We might just have to try out your old fashioned recipe! It looks so good. 😋
Is that the next cocktail you'll be chuggin'? >_< ....ladies, you're due for an upload! ;)
I watch @stevethebartender videos because he's dreamy! The smile, the accent, and he's making cocktails? Get me to the bar!
One of my fave videos that you’ve done so far! I’m gonna have this video favourited and linked until I remember them all off by heart. I’d love to see you do like a Round the World kinda cocktail series where you pick either a continent or let’s say top 5 British recipe cocktails such as 1. Pimms cup 2. Bramble, 3. Juniper sling 4. Dubonnet 5. White lady. Just for example. Some you have possibly done before though I’m not sure.
Thank so much Rob! That’s a good idea and first I’ve heard of that format - could be interesting 👌
I really love your second mixing glass used in this video!!!! Where can I find it?
WOW! Great video Steve, and almost 500K views! Damn!
Great video
Thank u chief, tryng irish cofee wothout cream today, cheers
my all time favorite cocktail is old fashion and i like the way you present yourself ....👍👍
Thanks Kuber - much appreciated! Have you tried a maple old fashioned.... so delicious!
Tried the whisky sour. Loved it. Been trying different recipes and this one is best. Some how though when steve makes it it fills the glass but when i do it it only half fills it
Great video, Steve. Love the Sazerac , Old Fashioned and the Manhattan cocktails. I also like a riff on the Manhattan that swaps the vermouth with St. Germain.
how is that St. Germain ? is it sweet ?
canica99, it’s floral and a bit sweet, about the same as the sweet vermouth. I first had the modified Manhattan at a local bar and they called it an “Elderflower Manhattan” as St. Germain is made of elderflowers. I like it and think it works well with bourbon; I use Buffalo Trace.
A sazerac is fantastic, I had one in Pittsburgh and have been in lover ever since
I really like this video. very informative and clear with the recipes. Could you please do one video explaining about differences between the varieties of whisky. I went to shop and have no idea which one to get. there are so many types out there. Thanks Steve.
That members mark is pretty tasty, if like it more sweet crown royal or Jack. if like more warm Irish wiskey like Jamieson, Johny Walker. If your not fancy and your going to mix it seagram's 7 is good for that.
Sazerac is my favourite of those you've made, closely followed by Manhattan. They are all great.
To be honest, I haven’t had too many Sazeracs in my time but I’m gona start!! 😂
Agreed
Yeah, I started by sours which, although tasty, quickly got boring. Switched to Sazeracs and old fashioneds now (for variety, latter is great as a refreshing cocktail when you switch angostura to orange bitters)
@@TheFowo try a black Manhattan. It's a regular Manhattan but you replace the vemoth with alverna.
@@jhkleinberg2 interesting, I've never heard of averna before. How does it taste like?
me and my friend tried once a recipe i figured out myself. so we took a big beer glass and we added 22.5 famous grouse and maple syrup and some appel juice and mixed it and after that we added milk and egg white and some cinnamon on top of it. it was one of the best things i ever tested out
Just came across your page today and I love your videos. SUBSCRIIIIIIIIBED. 🔥
Thanks Kendrick, welcome to the channel!!
With winter on the way I believe I will be enjoying irish coffees.
Nice one! We're getting into our summer now so something refreshing for me!
Love an old fashioned! Need to try a sazerac aswell
I haven’t really had other whisky cocktails... I usually drink my whisky neat however, I just made an old fashioned and loved it. I’m planing on trying all of these in the near future. Thank you for the thorough instructions.
the whisky sour i can only recommend but for me without the egg white
I am really glad that no cocktails were wasted. I’m against cocktail cruelty and these are too gorgeous not to be drank
Onya mate! love the video
Thanks! 😃
Paper Plane needs to make it on to one of these vids... they are addictive as!!
Whiskey Sour and Irish Coffee 💪🏻😁 nice Steve! 👌🏻🙂
You are great personality
im not even old enough to drink, I just love this channel. Keep up the work :)
Thanks xbluebu! Make sure you hold off for a few years 😆 is the age 18 or 21 where you are?
@@StevetheBartender_ 18, Im from Australia, like I imagine you are (Your accent is a bit like ones I hear)
Come to Europe, we start drinking at 15 😜
@@tommylobotommy I have been, when I was 13 tho. Im only 14 right now, but I would love to go again soon, not for this reason though.
lobo_tommy | so true
Lmaoo great looking drinks, really like the t-pain soundclip in the background from "bartender" 😂😂😂
Mark Ondrechak I noticed that too!! “Uh huh, Yeah”
I must be honest - I haven't tried any of the others yet, but did recently try the Sazerac. It's definitely a new, surprising favorite.
Recommend using some kind of a caramel flavoured coffee syrup for your Irish coffee. Using a store bought Coffee Syrup with flavours of “Irish Rum”. Freaking delicious using in Irish coffee
Whiskey rocks works for me!
Whiskey on the rocks? Doesn't need mixing... =)
You con also put the juice from a slice orange and a slice lemon with Angostura bitter to dissolve better the sugar instead of water and at the end put a little bit of soda after the bourbon
Have you tried crown apple and cranberry juice? It goes great with a slice of lime too. I haven’t experimented with adding anything else but it feels like it has room for something more.
Thanks for the video. My favorite is the Whisky Sour and Old Fashioned.
Another favorite is a variable of Bee Knees with whisky. The bartender calls American Bee Knees.
Welcome Fane! ...this is also known as a Gold Rush! (a bourbon Bees Knees)
Hey Steve, got any Easter/Spring themed cocktail ideas?
That smile is what led me to subscribe.
I'll take you along my journey of becoming a bartender. Cheers.
Irish whiskey and whiskey sour I need to try your cocktails
Add a red wine float to that sour yum.
Old Fashion and Irish Coffee
LOL love the ending. you must be lit by the end of the videos.
I had to wait until the end before I drank them as I needed photos after filming 😆 I did get pretty boozy in my older vids as I’d film 7-8 and drink them as I went!
Have you ever tried Athol Brose Steve? My scottish grandfather got me onto it. Its a 700 year old recipe with an interesting history to it. What can I say but -WOW! Absolutely beats the living snot out of Bailey Irish Cream or any other of that style. I use 6 egg whites to make it. There are different variations but the egg whites add a superb creamyness to it. You soak Scotch whiskey in oats. While thats happening beat the egg whites until thick and slowly blend honey into it (I use leatherwood) then blend in cream. Use heavy because it will seperate in a nasty way otherwise). I filter the oats out of the whiskey and slowly blend that into the mix. Pour it all into bottles and because it will seperate give it a shake every time you walk past for 7 days. On the eighth day you will have the most excellent drink. GUARANTEED. Let me know how you get on.
Well done. Really enjoyed the recipes and the stories. Whiskey sour is my favorite. Use one egg white to make 2 drinks at a time.
Yep, I usually split one egg between 2-3 cocktails..
Old fashioned my favorite.
What else can I use Peychaurds Bitters for? I'm stuck with a bottle of this stuff
Instead of muddling a sugar cube for my old fashioned, I mix about a tbsp or so of maple syrup with about 10 droplets of bitters (I use a maple cinnamon) in a “double old fashioned glass” and stir. I then fill the cup with ice and pour bulleit rye to my hearts content. Then I add a maranshino cherry (with a little bit of the syrup) and garnish with orange slice (if I have it). Stir it up. Sip. Delicious. I’m by no means a professional but I’ve experimented over the years and this is what I’ve come up with
What a great video every drink looks delicious. I have three bottles of whiskey Makers mark, bushmill, crown royal northern harvest rye. Finally i be able to drink whiskey. I did hit the like thumb up and also Subscribe to your channel.
i love a manhattan best whiskey drink imo---Mortons steak house has a State Street Manhattan it comes with a candied prime rib piece and a cherry 👍
whiskey sour is my faaaaaav right now
Thanks for another great video 🙏. Question: for someone drinking the Irish coffee, is it recommended to stir in the cream before drinking? I’ve never heard of this cocktail before so I am little curious.
Madator do not stir
10:58 No cocktails were wasted but poor steve got drunk lol
Good Steve Bro
I like the Whiskey Sour the best
Just a stupid question. For irish coffee, should it add whip cream or double cream?
Whiskey sour all the way, but I prefer a bit more dry version with proportions 3:2:1 with least sugar syrup. Anyway great video. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback Lobo!
Steve the Bartender Great channel, greetings from Poland!
