Thanks so much for this tutorial! I repaired huge deep scratches on my car (took me maybe 10 hours all up across 2 days). I'm a car noob but following this video helped me get perfect results! I really appreciate the simplicity of this video and the fact that I saved around $1000 by doing this myself. Something I didn't expect however was the mismatch of my car gloss with the acrylic lacquer so I had to buff out the repaired area afterwards.
good tip: in stead of using tape on the left on the bumper what will leave a line you want to use a A4 paper and fold it in half so you have the round side of the paper facing the part you want to paint. in that way you wont have a line but you have a smooth trasition.
yes theres a hard paint line where the paint was applied right up to the taped off area. This could have been avoided by not taping the masking paper tight down to the bumper but placed over it instead and secured. However with a fine wet and dry paper it could be feathered in and buffed up. which i later read is what the guy did and got a seamless transition. Good repair.
I enjoyed the video you made repairing the Audi, but this video made me believe that even I could do it. My biggest mistake in the past was not taking enough time ( impatience) and applying the paint too thickly, both of which I now recognise as my main mistakes. Thanks so much. Colin.
Hi. What I like about you my sir. You don't leave any small detail out. Like most of the other guys. I'm definitely a big fan of yours. Thanks again my sir.
Nice clear no-nonsence video. I will definately be following this advice to repair a deep scratch on our Honda. Great looking job too so I will be chuffed if my repair looks that good.
As much as this is a great video it's not for amateurs , you need a shed for one , it's time consuming, it's not worth the hassle for someone to try it inexperienced. Not too knock your video it's brilliantly done...I had to get my corrected by a panel beater, still glad I tried it. I def recommend watching it a few times and do small parts at one time.
Why not buy a second hand one? My car has around 3 pin dents on the passenger door. I was thinking how much would it be to pay someone to remove it but I forgot I could get a second hand door
Hey everyone, the best results that ive ever had was with the Magic Painter Method (i found it on google) without a doubt the no.1 course that I have ever tried.
A tip. Apply the filler first and then sand the whole thing once. Yes, it's unorthodox but the deep part of the scratch has already been abraded so it will stick unless it's an old repair and has been waxed.
Thanks for the technique! Where can someone buy the spray paint to match the make and model of the car? This information would be extremely helpful to your viewers!
Wow! Great job! I just stupidly bumped our car into our wall. Now the left side rear bumper has a crack and the sides of the bumper has a long scratch. I hope I find the right red color though. But thanks!
I scratched or I should say scuffed my inside car frame (front passenger door). Went to kfc drive through it was dark and quite narrow (never used drive through before). I’m quite worried. Husband doesn’t know yet 😭
Note: Don't tape the side you aren't painting. You'll have a hard line. Some fall over from the paint is okay. You can always buff out imperfections later. 👌🚗👍
I used a curved paper edges because of chris fix' shit and now i have a hard line! fuckkkk now i gotta repaint my shit and do primer, base coats and clear coats again sighhhh
I recently scratched my car on a column and the body shop is quoting my really high prices. It is burgundy Fiat 500 so what will I need to get do the repair myself? Sanding papers (of different sizes), body filler, primer (should I look for a red one?), the actual paint colour, and what else? Your reply is much appreciated
Great video and easy step by step guide which I would have no problem following and achieving... But this is my main problem !!!!! How to correctly match the sprayed area/colour to the original colour ??????
great video but one thing you never do is cut a panel or bumper in half to prevent paint from going over. what it will do is leave a line when you tear the tape off like what happen at 8:40 . you should be better at leaving it open and light spray over to do a blend in
Just amazzzzing! You're a real Pro! WOW!! Question - does the primer need to be the same colour as the vehicle? Also, I have tiny wells on my hood. I think that's what they're called. Would I use the same method as above to repair this chipped paint?
People going on about the difference in color: *IT'S CALLED FLASHING!!! PAINT LOSES IT VIBRANCY AFTER UV RAYS FADE THE COLORS OVER THE YEARS. CHILL OUT!! IT LOOKS GREAT.*
So how do match the exact same paint color to the original color ? Is there a paint number somewhere on the car ? And if so is it easily available in rattle spray cans ?
The color code is usually on the driver's door frame. Your owner's manual and/or dealer would help you locate it if needed. The paint is normally available at either an auto parts store (often cheaper price) or at the dealership. The problem is it rarely matches exactly. If you notice the new paint in the video doesn't appear to match exactly either.
The only thing I noticed was the overspary on the left of the bumper @ 8:42 there is a definite line in the paint from where you removed the masking tape.
Very good and clear instructions on how to repair and repaint the bumper. However, I can see a line where the tape was on the left side of the painted area, meaning that the paint won't have a consistent color with the rest of the bumper. He should have repainted the entire bumper, so there is no line and the paint color would be consistent across the entire bumper. Even if you can get the same paint using the color code from the manufacturer, it does not mean that the new paint is exactly the same color. It appears that he did the work outside in the drive way or the street, which is no no for painting. You can do all the sanding, body filling, and scuffing outside to keep the dusts level down but you want to paint inside a garage or close space, so you don't get air borne contaminants to settle on your wet paint. The best option at home garage is really using plastic liner and masking tape to make the enclose space big enough to keep the car inside and prevent the dusts from settling on the paint. Of course, you would want to wear decent respirator for the entire time including sanding, cleaning, painting, etc. to protect your lungs from the nasty dusts and aerosol paint. He is right on one thing, the painting has to be done at the right temperature and humidity so that the paint can dry and cure properly or it won't last.
Be sure to designate a safe space for your vehicle, away from moving traffic. Ideally in a garage with adequate ventilation to prevent particulate matter from landing on your paint during each stage. Quite a great job! (I think it'd look stellar if you contacted your manufacturer and matched the make(I presume a Volvo or Saab) and model's paint to match the original engine manufacturer's (OEMs))
u need to use blend out thinner so u don't get a hard edge and probably get a coloured matched aerosol from an car paint supply store because hycote only have standard shade color in there aerosols just a tip.
Nice tutorial! I need to repair our silver Focus. One question though... after sanding sanding the filler and moving to 180 or higher for the area,, how do you know when you've sanded enough?
How come the bumper is a different colour from the rest of the car ? and you have masked so you have a hard edge. You should have compounded the rest of the bumper and on the last coat of clear used a blending clear thinner
So I saw this video and the one on how to fix the clear coat. If my panel has a scratch like this and also clear coat peeling off, which products should I use?
I have VV Passat 2015 Sedan Dark Mehron color and i am thinking to apply paint to my car front and back bumper along with removal or scratches. Would you tell me how do you choose a proper paint for your car ?
Still a professional job in my opinion if you want it done properly.I used to hand paint my old VW Beetle I didn't care.If you want to bodge it on an old car fair enough..
Obviously the new paint inst going to match the paint that has been on your car for years...the only part where he screwed up was he masked while putting on the base coat and didn't blend anything.
I just watched this first videos and I have to subscribed, such a great job💪💪. I will deft try this on my car. I have a question when you used the primer where can i find out what color do I need for my car?
At 9:04 when you remove the masking tape and paper you can clearly see the vertical boundary line where the new spray met the original coat. How did you remedy that line because that always happens to me on these kinds of jobs (complete DIYer) and I can never fix it. Also I noticed you very cleverly stopped the camera from panning all the way over to the line I'm talking about when you showed the final job and congratulated yourself on 'not bad for a morning's work'. Tim ...a better tip: the bumpers tiny, paint the whole darned panel, simples, no transition!!
Ye that’s true I work for a company which dose all this stuff mobile
Padoir of Ireland 🇮🇪 you would still have to blend it
@Amos Burke 2 years later.... Flatten means to sand.
Well done, I already get my bumper repaint and it cost me $ 500. You probably spend less then $ 50 and the result look not bad at all.

Great video I feel confident enough after watching this to tackle my Jaguar XF front bumper thank you
I scratched my door and cannot be bothered to make all this effort.
I think I will just buy a new car.

How you remove the line to the left from masking paper tape that makes the differend to the old paint from the

Usually paint shop persons blend it by wet sanding with 3000+ sandpaper and buff it with compound

Nice tutorial! I need to repair our silver Focus. One question though... after sanding sanding the filler and moving to 180 or higher for the area,, how do you know when you've sanded enough?
I guess when it’s smooth enough
Are you not using blending solvent?
When you guys are saying to buff out the hard lines he leaves from the tape, what do you mean by that? Do you use sandpaper to buff the transition?
I believe wet sanding and more clear coat.
@@ElGranRojo903 what is the purpose of wet sand vs just dry sanding? Haven't worked with paint much lol.
@@kobekile8099 it's smoother & less likely to cause scratches & is often done after dry sanding. Dry sanding is a bit harsher
