I noticed you've stopped pronouncing Ryu as "rye-you." It's appreciated. I used to pronounce it that way too and know it's hard to break the habit. I also called Guile "gwee-lay."
So there is a game called: mortal Kombat Armageddon, in the game a bunch of characters of the Mortal Kombat series ( at the time) have died, so you could use that same idea for Nicoli !
Top Hat Gaming Man, you should definitely do a Street Fighter character documentary on Crimson Viper.
No character has ever been more handicapped by their franchise than Necalli. He's a serial killer type character that isn't allowed to kill people.
💯 he's meant to be a force of nature. A dark twisted nature of kill or be killed. Fighting to the death as that's the way of life.
He should have been taking people out. In the story it could have been a way to get rid of some surplus characters.
Instead he beats a few people and then ...Ryu just destroys him?! I honestly can't remember he ended up being so forgettable.
@@The_AnomalyRyu destroying him makes sense, but other characters? No
Capcom's not bold enough to kill any of it's characters. There's too much potential in those IPs. Necali was bound to fail.
Reminds of when Sony tried to make a movie centered off Venom & Carnage but has no gore and as minimal casualties as possible
True his STORY also massively suffered from being stuck "on rails". Like we KNOW it has to start roughly AFTER street fighter Alpha AND 4, We KNOW it has to END at 3rd strike, so the limits on how he could and could NOT impact the story were built in.
As much less respected as a franchise like DoA was I wish more fighting games would take the hint. My main Ian technically "died" the moment he got his memories back and resumed his life as Hayate, but as a fan favorite they keep bringing him back as a playable character that doesn't really exist in the story line. The story gets to move forward unencumbered by characters with complete arcs, fans get to keep playing their favorites, everybody WINS.
It's surprising they didn't let Necalli kill Bison. Considering his entire schtick is coming back with weird clone bodies or revealing his psycho power let him survive otherwise fatal injuries, it would've let Necalli have some show of power without marginalizing Bison.
You're right. Also, it would've made more sense if necalli was able of draining souls in order to get more powerful instead of consuming them in order to keep his power. If necalli drained some of ryu's satsui no hado and bison's psycho power, he would've been a huge threat and the big boss of the game.
They obviously would have done that if they wanted Necali to be any level of threatening at all lol
Clearly that wasn't the intent because they made Necali complete fodder
I understand the feeling of wishful thinking but at some point it's time to accept that this wasn't done unknowingly lol. It was clearly the creative intent to make Necali a clown, not a real threat to anyone
Necalli is probably the living definition of the term "wasted potential". With a cool design like that, I myself thought that he would serve as the final boss of SFV but alas, it was another one of Capcom's famous blunders. Maybe they'll do him justice in SF6 or a future game but who knows.
No. He needs to die and stay in the hellhole that is SF5 along with F.A.N.G. and Abigail, but I remember getting my ass beat by him in Final Fight so as much as I hate his SF5 design, he's legacy.
His Design was so sick, I even loved his animation/fighting style. He is what I always imagined Blanka should have been, A completely feral, savage brute force fighter. But he never got to actually DO anything consequential in the story.
Same I thought he was gonna be SF5's final boss, SF5's Akuma even, & sadly I don't think Necalli's gonna be in SF6 because Akuma's confirmed DLC!
He will never be brought back, he’s unliked, under played, and some people say he has boring move set so everyone(including me) will just say he’s a wasted character slot
I don’t think ANY character who was blundered this hard in their initial appearance has a chance of coming back.
Before the game was released, i heard the Theory that Necalli was actually the first fighter ever to have uncovered the Satsui no Hado, the so called originator of it and it would‘ve made sense too! He was a beast fueled by a dark powered that made him appear like a beast, kind of like Evil Ryu. He can transform and his transformation turns his eyes dark and gives him a glowing Aura, like Akuma. And not to mention that in the Story, Necalli had heavy involvement with Ryu, meaning Necalli could’ve been what Kage was to Ryu. The first Satsui no Hado user returns to fights the strongest fighters to try and satisfy his insatiable hunger for battle.
That... That actually makes a lot of sense.
had the same thought when I first saw his rage mode during his trailer, but apparently, he's just some old angry dude who can absorb people...
Honestly this is a better story than the s*** that Capcom actually gave us.
You know those characters in fighting games that you see and know they are NEVER coming back? That's Necalli. Dude was set up as the big bad, got jobbed out in every scene he was in during the story mode, and then as seasons went on got thrown in the trash for other villains like Urien, Gil, and G. And then the only unique thing about him with his hair mechanic now belongs to Jamie.
I expect that to be fang
@@ratedr7845Bison was the only casualty, nobody else from Shadaloo was captured or confirmed dead. We could still see Fang come back. Same goes for Vega or Balrog.
Actually he is confirmed to come back in the second dlc with Laura
Urien was actually cool and ppl like him tho
@@MisterFiasconah F.A.N.G is out A.K.I is the new thing
They could have made it worse for Necalli. He could have appeared in Dan's story to get beaten again.
Honestly with no one being dead I feel like he did go for Dan and still took an L. Dan probably just pushed him into a corner in an infinite him to death 😂
I never understood why the story didn't end with Bison being defeated by Necalli. Bison has the ability to transfer his soul into a new body, which is why he's still a problem despite numerous deaths. Necalli eating his soul would have been a fitting conclusion for the villain, especially seeing as Bison doesn't make a return in SF6.
Bit late for that bison is in street fighter 6
Necalli's failure is why Capcom decided to bring Kage and G in as the Villians during The DLCS
G is a villain. He seems like wholesome dude
@@theflashgordon193 according to rose, G isn't evil but what he has planned can be considered bad for humanity.
@@maxacorn oh I see interesting
What's funny is that he failed due to Capcom making him a devourer of souls that never actually accomplishes this on screen. He just ends up as a jobber while Bison ends up being the villain again.
Necali failure lol he is just a imaginary character it's Capcom failure 😂
A literal Aztec god, there’s no justifying how bad Capcom fumbled Necali. There’s no way he would have been defeated other than Ryu and Bison being the Street Fighter franchise pride and joy.
My head cannon is the writers were classic SF roster fanboys and just wanted to write more Ryu, Bison, etc., but they HAD to write about Necalli so they just made him a jobber for their real favorite characters.
Necalli is a character that I legitimately forget exists for varying lengths of time.
As a necalli main I’ve thought extensively about this. All they had to do was give necalli more fights, gave him win, then something stops him from absorbing the loser. The other hero’s showing up, a stronger soul appearing something like that. What makes it worse was that he’s just so boring to play too😒then his V-trigger one got a random nerf too
You know, if Necalli was introduced in SF6, along with World Tour, it'd make a lot more sense, since he could eat the souls of so called fighters, and become stronger that way. Hell, you could make him a 'pet' for JP, letting him observe the power to use for his own.
If I had a nickel for every time a fighting game series jobbed out a cool designed Aztec warrior boss character, I’d only have two nickels but it’s weird that it happened twice.
naw 3 with the ogre and kotal khan
They did a terrible job he's supposed to be based on Aztecs because I had no idea he was supposed to be that
I thought he was going to be an Ogre from Tekken like character. Very disappointed with his obsessed with consuming souls but all he does is turn into a human puddle schtick 😅
Necalli killing off a lot of bad design Street Fighter characters would've been perfect, could've also done in some old fighters too like the one who wanted a warriors death and at the end of the campaign kills and absorbs Bison and becomes corrupted by Psycho Power changing his red to psycho purple and bulking up to be the end boss.
Which would have made Ryu's nothingness reveal better since Necalli can't feed of Ryu.
Hell, no one likes F.A.N.G as a character, why didn't he kill at least HIM
@@tammid8423I like F.A.N.G
Necalli is a plot device that Bison planned for and calculated into a convoluted plot to push Ryu to the next level, so that the two could have their final battle and Bison can see Ryu's new power himself. That's basically it for better or worse.
Necalli is a minor villain at best.
Necalli is one of those characters I’d love to see brought back later with Capcom actually tapping into some of that missed potential
I think I’d like that too, but there ain’t no way Capcom is dredging up a character wasted this badly in his initial appearance. He’s staying buried in SFV.
Ah yes, *Demonic Super Saiyan Tarzan!!!*
Isn’t that just Goku?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@mramisuzuki6962 that’s exactly what he is
Necalli turned out just like WWE's Fiend, lol.
I thought Necalli's V-Trigger hair resembled Gill's hair.
My hope was they would show a connection between the two characters, but it never happened.
While I can see the comparison, at least the Fiend has some W's under his belt while Necalli is a walking L everywhere he goes on the story mode, so he even loses to the Fiend as well. Man taking L's even after his game has been left behind....
The Gill connection is interesting but it doesn’t matter at this point.
@@djpegao that's a good point.
Necalli was built up to be a serious threat
Only to be killed by Akuma in the same game he first appeared
You can't introduce a character that kills everybody he defeats and not want to kill any important character at the same time.
I Really liked Necalli's Fighting style, design, and backstory. It's a shame they made him a Jobber-obber-obber
I remember his first teaser trailer. I thought he was really cool character back in the day. It's a shame what Capcom did to him.
Necalli literally could have been somebody had it not been for Capcom's "Crapcom" phase during the time. Unlike Seth you can see they really had something there hen they made him and with his lore. But the story writing and the execution...... A apart of me hopes we could get another chance to see Necalli come back but the way Street Fighter 6 is, it don't feel like Necalli would be the best fit for S6's urban hip hop themed game.
Also I like to point out Akuma should be up there with Bison especially when you take into account HE KILLED THE BASTARD WHEN HE FIRST SHOWS UP IN GAME. Not only that he was popular enough to make it in SF3 (as poor as that game did), and Tekken 7.
AKUMA IS STRONGER THAN M BISON...
@@KyyaJoon That is also true
We never got to see shin bison being a canonical character, but I feel like shin bison could've be as powerful as oni and gill, or even more powerful.
@@jamesvazquez4961 Shin Bison would probably be more powerful than Gill but possibly be as or just barely as powerful as Oni.
I say that because according to a comment on a video of Gill's theme from Third Strike, Akuma has beaten Gill and if thats true, would mean he became more powerful than that after transforming into Oni. Gill supposedly is implied to be more powerful than Bison despite the fact Bison whooped him (sadly) in his ending in Capcom Fighting Jam, but it also turns out Gill can swallow his pride and sometimes will let the other beat him if need be. Whether he did that with Bison, I'm not sure. But I do feel Bison could have more of a chance beating Gill than he would Akuma, especially as Shin Bison. As for against Oni, I'm not sure if Shin Bison could beat him more times than not especially when you take into account as Akuma, he already pulled off amazing feats, like destroying an island, in Street Fighter Alpha/Zero 2.
And funnily enough seth in V got a complete makeover and basically just eclipsed necali’s concept of his character but done better
When Capcom couldn't use Wolverine in their last MvC, they just changed his look and dumped him into SFV and called him Necalli.
I feel like Necalli WAS intended to be SF5's Final Boss Judging by his Theme.
His theme is fckn dope
Necalli should have been Street Fighter's Ogre from Tekken.
They should have said he sucked out power, so these characters used their power to fill his hunger and he left afterward.
So much potential.
Wasted completely
Sub Zero 😂
i don’t play SF and even i was surprised that Necalli wasn’t the main bad guy, such a cool character design. what a shame.
Necalli looks like that he belongs in a Darkstalkers game rather in Street Fighter. His early sinister looking design just shows that he look like a Darkstalkers character.
Necalli is an annoyance rather than a villain.
It's Devour Hour!™
He was basically Wolverine with dreadlocks.
I have few ideas on how Necalli could have been used better.
First, in his prologue story, show him beating, injuring and even killing already established SF characters that weren't gonna be in a game or any future games for that matter. Characters like Fei Long, T. Hawk, Adon, Rufus, Hakan etc. Later games could decide which of these characters managed to survive his attack (in case Capcom wants to use certain characters again).
Second, fight with Dhalsim doesn't end with Dhalsim winning but with a stalemate. Before Necalli delivers finishing blow, Dhalsim and Ryu teleport to safety and discuss the threat.
Third, if he does attack M. Bison, than at least have Necalli beat up his henchmen before Bison intervenes and chases him away. I'd personally scrap this fight as it is just pointless filler.
Before his final fight with Ryu, have Necalli defeat one of his friends, perhaps Ken. It could be a sight of his friend nearly dying that triggers Ryu's power and allows him to win. After being defeated, Necalli disappears into the ground with an evil grin on his face, suggesting that he will come back in the future.
It's nothing particularly original, but I feel like this could have worked.
This makes 10x more sense and works to establish him as a real threat. I genuinely think the SFV writers just didn’t like Necalli but were forced to include him, so they just made him a punching bag for the characters they actually like.
I absolutely agree. And you're right about necalli killing bison's henchmen. Heck, seeing fang punching and sending necalli flying was the dumbest thing in SF5. He could've killed and devoured his soul. Literally no one cared about fang.
Capcom can try as many times as they want but the bottom line is no villain will ever replace Lord Bison
They are gonna try though, they can't use him forever
This. Bison can't be replaced. He is *THEE* Street Fighter villain. Everyone else sticks out like a sore thumb. A psycho dictator makes the most sense for a game based on world fighters. They should *only* use him. This whole "God-like being" angle that they keep going for just doesn't work.
@@BeyondDaX he just needs to be in the game. I dont mind if he's not the final boss
@@KingStr0ng I don't get your logic why a psycho dictator had anything to do with street fighter
@@theflashgordon193 it's like how Bowser is the main villain of the Mario series or how Eggman is the villain in Sonic, Bison is that to SF
his design also seems to be based on kars from jojo who is also am aztec warrior with flowing hair who devouers strong fighters
I always thought he looked more like Santana, specially with how feral his fighting style is.
@@Bad_Gazpacho yeah there is definetly inspiration from the other pillar men too
Necali in SFV was booked as poorly as a WWE wrestler nowadays 😅
All they have to do is bring him back and deliver on the hype they failed to do so on lol
He lost me as soon as he provided his own echo. "Devour-our-our-our" LOL I immediately laughed out loud, day 1.
I really love this character a lot I hope they bring him back in street fighter 6 even tho he’s dead they gave Luke another shot give Necalli one too 😂😂
My favorite character from 5, shame he won't appear again 😢
I remember seeing another character analysis video on him. Some folks in the comments of that video said that his backstory resembles that of a Mortal Kombat character, and would probably had fitted better in that universe.
he’s pretty much ogre from tekken so idk about mk
I don’t think I have ever heard of a fighting game character with more wasted potential than Necalli.
Everyone unanimously agrees that he is wasted potential, but maybe they will try again in the future
Necalli is a victim of the writers strike.
That was very low 😂
@@nosotrosloslobosestamosreg4115 so are the royalties! Hahahababa
It's sad that Capcom forgot that they have a predominant Shaman or Sorceress in Rose that they could have added to explain his backstory basically making it as if she had a vision of him
Sasquatch Necali would have been pretty sick.
Capcom love wasting characters that would perfectly serve as final bosses , even in the case with JP in SF6 they didn't bother making him the default final boss of the arcade
He's the final boss depending on who u pick.
@@DonYoGi8331 should be the final boss to all characters
@@DevilRaptorB that would be boring since the characters have their own reasons for fighting and different rivals.
@@DonYoGi8331 how did that stop someone like Seth or Gill from being a final boss in SF4 and SF3 exactly? all characters there also had their own goals, that comment made no sense
@@DevilRaptorB nah it makes better sense for the fighters to have reasons and rivals. The only one with a real grudge against JP is Ken thats why the two of them are pictured when u highlight arcade mode.
Necali for me was so cool. I always loved Dragon Ball and especialy the hair and transformation of ssj3, so that V-trigger hit home really hard. Especialy those body tattoos/scars being of my favourite little details to add to characters to make them cool. Not to even mention the absolutely brutal and savage fighting style. I loved the character and was so hyped. And then his part of the story is pretty much just a side character to be beaten by other characters to show them to be strong. One of the biggest disapointments in the history of video games for me. I still enjoyed him because he still looked cool as hell and was pretty fun to play. I really do wish he comes back in later game for redemption
He reminded me of an amalgamation of Ryuji Yamazaki from Fatal Fury/King of Fighters and Broly from DBZ.
He could have been much more. What a shame...
Short sum of some villain's desires:
M.Bison: world domination (bit clichéd but not too complicated)
Akuma: To seek the strongest fighters just to prove he is better (which is why he pesters Ryu and broke into other games on a couple of occasions *coughs* Tekken 7)
Vega: being the prettiest? Idk
Gill: world domination but by creating a cult
And then Necali: C O N S U M E
Also:
Fang - serving M.Bison and operating as his right hand
Balrog - money, money, money
Kage - destruction (?)
And some ex-villains/criminals:
Birdie - left Shadaloo only for having delicious meals at Kanzuki family's residence
Cody - came out of prison to become a mayor of Metro City
Abigail - left Madgear gang to start his own business
He is a cool design butchered by a terrible story. This should say something about how important story actually is in fighting games.
Necalli was a half-baked character. His backstory is basically ripped off from Ogre from Tekken. And the idea of him being a soul-devouring demigod makes him sound like a Mortal Kombat character.
If Capcom had put more time into the character they would've realized he wasn't a good fit for the franchise.
Maybe they cana add him in SF6 by giving him the Seth's treatment in roder to be feasable again.
It worked when they genderswapped Seth.
Looks like Yojiro Hanna’s wild brother.
He had so much potential, he should've been the main antagonist of the story since he has the V marks, something that Street Fighter 5 was revolved in.
But he jobs, and barely does anything significant to the story. Which is a real shame. He could've done some harm, break Shadaloo, evolve like Ogre, and cause havoc until he was stopped. Would've helped with Bison being surprised and then with him reemerging after Necalli gets beaten so that Charlie can finish the job.
Actually the main mistake of Street Fighter V:
Not adding two more cinematic story modes taking place after A Shadow Falls.
Necalli would be the final boss of Arcade Edition's story mode, while Gill would be the final boss of Champion Edition's.
Necalli is the textbook definition of villain of the week. He bursts through the front done, gets disposed of in a timely fashion, then is never seen again while other villains keep coming back.
I really loved Necallis design and his animalistic and rage style moves, kind of reminded me of tarzan. Then they just made his story suck, his personality, suck, and had him get whooped on by everybody. So I just stick with blanka
Necalli is pretty much the same as DC vs MK, you cant kill characters story wise if plot always says *no! No Killing!*
To sum up Necalli: Badass design, decent moveset, but toppled with lame story execution.
Quite the shame too, he could've easily been a true successor to Akuma in terms of having a demonic rival for Ryu.
The amount of wasted potential for Necalli physically hurts me
If he returns to Street Fighter (which I hope but doubt) they should give him the glow up and be the monster he was believed to be
I thought necalli was really fun to play but for some reason they did nothing with the character
They should of had Bison be weak, not killed, still eager to keep fighting Ryu out of denial but due to the prophecy Necalli reemerges, Bison tries to deny what's happening as Necalli devours his soul, thus removing any suspicion of Bison possibly returning one day even though he was gone for sure. No speculation.
edit: also I dunno is being called a mudman is racist....he does turn into what looks like mud when he morphs away.
If there was one character from SFV I would delete forever, it wouldn't be Necalli, it would be Fang. That Guy is so godamn lame. Cringe, even.
He was originally supposed to be a dark stalkers character for a new game that was scrapped.
@@MugenLord Fang or Necalli?
Nacalli was just capcoms way of putting wolverine into street fighter
Happy Father's day gentleman
Talk about wasted potential.
Then again, that's the entirety of Street Fighter 5..
So forgettable, that they gave his hair gimmick to Jamie for sf6.
I didn’t mind necalli again the character can be brought back with a good storyline.
Always thought his design needed..... more..... sharper eyes with glowing pupils, razor sharp teeth and nails since he's from an era before modern grooming, and a much better voice. Sounds like a dog snoring at night. For me, he never felt intimidating in the slightest.
The whole SFV was a failure.
SF6 is what SFV should've been.
I thought Rashid was the new villain; Capcom announced him on 9/11 and gave him an airplane stage.
That would p!ss off so many Twitter users.
So Nacali pretty much is the capcom version of Bray Wyatt, all scary and games but no final product to be taken seriously
Necalli was meant to be the upper mid card player only to job out to Bison, Ryu and Akuma. Like Kotal Kahn in Mortal Kombat, wasted potential.
Its just basically a neutered Ogre from Tekken...
That title belongs to kotal khan
Such a wasted potential. He had such a great design.
Akuma is way more Iconic than M.Bison, that intro montage was disrespectful🤨
Main issue is that Akuma isn't really felt out considered a villian. His most villainous role was the alpha series but after that he was not really one. Anatogoist arguably but not villian
Would've been cool if he would've taken Nash and bison since they both supposedly die in 5. Then have him come back in 6 but actually be strong lol
When the Necalli's reveal trailer was shown, i lowkey thought he was going to be SFV final boss of sort.
And boy was i wrong... So wrong
A scary force of nature character that represents the worst aspects of fighting? Yeah we already have Akuma.
Yea, Capcom really dropped the ball w/Necalli
Remember Straits from Phantom Blood who camed back in Battle Tendency trying to be like the pillar men? Well,Necalli is the Straits of the sf,trying to be like Bison,Gill and Seth
He reminds me of Disney Tarzan. Which makes me want a Disney fighting game.
They could have used him to kill off Nash, Fang, a few Dolls and even hurt Ryu until the latter over powers him with the power of nothingness. But Noooooooo, Capcom completely jacked his story up.
He could've been the perfect subject to kill all and devour the souls of the characters from the street fighter ex series that they will never appear in future street fighter games again
I recently found your channel and I’ve been loving your videos. I can’t believe how fast you get them out. I was wondering if you’ve read the recent Street Fighter X Ninja Turtles crossover comic. Issue one just came out last week.
Glad you are enjoying it. I wasn't aware of it, Ill check it out.
What?!?!? Is there any place I can read this conic online?
Like my man @TheFightersDen would say, Necalli was "talent enhancement," 😆
Great video! You sound a little congested though
He WAS like Broly... but unfortunately it wasn't Super's Broly, it was Z Broly, where his backstory makes him extremely hard to take him seriously, despite how threatening he's supposed to be.
Necalli 🤝 Santana
Aztec God-like devourer beings who were fumbled harder than falling down the stairs as a kid
necalli was visually so sick, made me think of a pillar man. But the story lmao...
Literally I see him and think of Santana, I mean both are Aztec gods that got fumbled so
Did this guy try to imply Akuma isn’t as an iconic of a villain as Bison? Akuma is in every game, and challenges the main protagonist directly.
...I'll be honest, I kind of forgot Necalli even existed.
Necalli had to compete with the likes of akuma and bison, compared to those 2, hes highly forgettable
I never liked Necalli, and apparently capcom knew that he was garbage too.
I feel like if they gave another shot at writing him he could be cool but they had too much food on their plate and only threw some side story’s together to make it work
Necalli > Seth design wise but yeah his story was horrendously bad
No androgyne Seth is better
He kind of sounds and acts like Taz the Tasmanian devil.
Please do videos on Ryu, Rolento, Ibuki, & R.Mika
kinda wish he was in 6 though just so i could use his moves on my cac
Necalli was a wasted opportunity and I actually really liked playing him. Honestly, I'd like to see him come back for SF6 because of A, how the community would react, and B how the devs could write him to make him an actually viable threat because his story if SF5 was poorly executed overall.
An idea I had was IF he got into SF6, he'd target fighters and do what he was marketed for in stealing souls to become stronger. He'd start out with "easy targets" like Jamie or Lily and then progressively go onto stronger fighters like Zangief and JP to gain more power from their souls and then his story would end with him fighting Akuma (whose confirmed for SF6) and Necalli would his soul to become the strongest person alive in his story; nobody can stop him.
