Honestly if Seth wasn't the physical embodiment of controlled chaos, he'd have less subscribers. Not as an insult, it's just what makes him unique, he's a risk taker, a do-er, and mischievous, I love it.
This makes me think back 30 odd years. A guy in my unit but an RC B29. It was massive. 8 to 10 feet long with 4 engines massive. We just happened to catch him loading it up for his first flight and followed him to the range to watch. He spent a good 45 min getting ready. Re checking and doing all kinds of stuff before the flight. Warmed it up. Took off, got up to about 75 feet high. Banked right then lost radio. It just flew away. Higher than the trees. Being a big ass plane it had like 45 min of fuel in it. He watched it fly until we couldn't see it. Then just packed up his stuff and went home. He didn't say a word, but looked like he had been nut punched.
before I got married, one of my first dates with the now ex wife was to the local park to try my RC plane. It was made of a hodge podge of parts, a Pringles can and the tail and nose from a foam glider. Rubber bands etc.. anyway I had it trimmed in the back yard and ready to try. So we went down there and there were a bunch kids watching all this for the first time. I told her to gently toss it forward/level. She Nolan Ryaned the thing into the ground 10 feet from where she stood and into a hundred pieces. I went and gathered all the pieces while the kids pointed and laughed and went back home. I should have known then. Trust your instincts...

This literally is what happened to me with my last drone!😭 i was ready to jump in after it, shirt was off, i was sprinting towards the river, then something clicked in my head and i stopped and decided that it was gone…. At least your boat floats!!! The Dji mini 2 does not😅
lost my gopro karma drone when it ran into a branch and bounced into a river, i waded waist deep for a while, but it was really cold, fast, and very muddy so i got out, didnt find it...
I sympathise with the unexpected loss of expensive tech. Imagine that you're one of an elderly couple sat on a bench atop a cliff looking out to sea. Over the next 10 minutes a motorbike parks up and a guy with a large backpack gets off, opens the backpack and pulls out a giant controller. Followed by one of those new drone things. He sets up and takes off. The drone hovers stationary, then he tests it by moving left, right, up and down. Seemingly satisfied he sends the drone out over the cliff. At this point, you may be wondering if he's going to get some nice video footage. What you're probably not expecting is for the drone to travel about 20 feet horizontally, and then slowly and gracefully decend the 200ft from the cliffs into the sea below. If you could tear your eyes away from the spectacle you may notice the look of confusion on the operators face. Instead you'd just watch as the drone stops just above the water and is instantly swallowed by the next passing wave. The operator wordlessly packs away his controller, mounts his motorcycle and rides away as you stare at him in absolute bafflement. And that's how I lost a Parrot Bebop which no longer wanted to fly.
As a 6 year drone pilot, I’ve learned the loss lesson several times, although by minor miracles and diligence, I’ve always recovered them… damaged, but fixable (thank you hiking Mennonite family who happened to see my drone in a forced descent in Seneca Rocks, WV). What I’ve learned is, a crash is always a factor, but recovery is key. First, drone insurance w/ State Farm. Next things, label with name and contact info, contact info on SD card, AirTag or Google SmartTag. Obviously, testing in flat water. Seems like the times I’ve lost my drone, I had no cell service, no satellite imagery, late in the day, far from home, etc. I’m a kayaker, so I might have had a boat with me. I didn’t begin learning a combat roll in class III/IV whitewater.
Honestly this is hilarious. No one else doing a review has a mishap like this, and it makes these more fun to watch. But hope you get a new mini to test because it looks like a great camera.
Wish I had known about this when it happened. I live nearby and whitewater kayak so I could have looked for it. After more than a week it's probably either way downstream or at the bottom of the river. I've seen footage recovered from GoPros found years after they were lost so you never know, though.
Seth, thank you very much for a little bit of ALL OF US! Doesn't matter the project, the ride, or the Xmas present we "think" they'll be amazed with.... you nail it every time - Thanks, man 😋
Seth, that's what makes you so great, you post your failures along with your successes. If the interwebs only showed successes we'd all have unreasonable expectations of how life is supposed to go for us. Thanks.
Hey Seth! just wanted to let you know that your channel has been and will continually be one of my favorite videos to look forward to every weekend! Keep up the great content as always! long time viewer!
Might make you feel better: Mate bought a new whitewater kayak after being explicitly told not to by his wife, because Reasons. Bought it anyway, took his telling off like a big boy. Wrote his home ph in it Just In Case. Almost immediately lost it on the river. How do you hide this mistake? (Take a moment here to imagine yourself in this situation) Buy another one of course! A few days later she got a call at home, someone found the kayak. “Not ours, I can see it on the car.” “Well this one has your number in it…” She did a 400km+ round trip to collect it, and left it tied on the roof as a “please explain”. Some say the incident is still brought up to this day if he foolishly ever says “no, because Reasons”. “Some” is only two people. One complains how unfair it is. The other brags of getting 20 years and counting of having things their way.
Thanks for sharing one of your"moments" with us. It happens. I once decided to ride with my Note 9 with the screen facing out in my pocket to help reduce the screen coming on and the phone doing things. Welp, I crashed and smashed the screen real good. I did not think things through. 😂🤦♂
I'm so sorry for you Seth, I know EXACTLY what you feel like. I lost my first GoPro, a HERO7 White a bought off a friend for 20 bucks while surfing, like a year ago now. thankfully for my birthday, my parents got me a HERO10. I am so thankful because i was so devastated when I lost it

Wow! Sorry all that happened, but repeat after me, “righting moments”. It’s the flip side of putting your weight on your pedals when going over rough stuff. To stay upright, lower your center of gravity. What happened to your surf board is the same thing that happened to the Mary Rose way back when. And those were people who really thought they knew how to build a ship. They put cannons way too high above the water line. You just did the same with a camera on a tall arm. Oh well 😂, you’re the best always and you do and achieve so much that this is just water under the bridge …😅 The biggest loss is the Frenchie, but I guess you can make another 👍🏼. Thanks for all you do!
If it ever gets returned, two tips. Fill the hull with expanding foam and create an epoxy block sticking off the tail about 3cm² with a couple of degrees of down. The board will no longer skip like a stone at speed.
Or at least put your name and number on it. Worked for a friend of mine with his r/c glider plane. He went to far and high out of range, the wind carried it a mile away to some guys backyard.
Rip, Glad you didnt jump in. We had a guy fall in the water (like over his head deep) while RC crawling last weekend. It was only like 20 degrees F outside. Dude was a trooper he went home took a shower, and came back out to crawl with us for another couple hours. Dont think he would have been able to swim down a river though, that does not seem like a good idea.
I was probably 13 or 14 and had just been gifted my first RC car, a proper one, the Tyco Rebound. All of my cousins and brother were there, super excited to see the thing roll down the street. I turn it on, get familiar with the controls and peel off incredibly fast. At this point it was far from us and we could barely see it, so I decelerate and start a U turn…immediately the car goes out of range, gets stuck with the throttle open, and goes into a water drain. You should reach out to Tile and Apple AirTag and put them on things like this, or inside an expensive bikes’ seat tube or anything you want to be able to track. They rely on another Tile or Apple device with Bluetooth to update their location, but especially with Apple since every other person has an iPhone it’ll come up quick! As for the bike, I think getting it inside the frame means a thief won’t realize it’s getting tracked too. Just be sure you can pull out your seatpost or BB or fork steerer and shake it back out of the frame when comes time to replace the battery ha
I didn’t know the French Broad River had so much garbage. Two times I was in Brevard the whole family did tubing excursions/tour. Didn’t see garbage and the river seemed pretty clean.
Seth you have no idea how much I can relate to you on this. I too lost one of my new go pros in our local river a few years back. It's such a *sinking* feeling knowing you can't do much about it. Best of luck finding it
So Seth learned that when he does this again.... and he will... mount a camera to the bottom so when it tip over he can still see where it is going till it gets out of wifi range and maybe an airTag, I'm sure he has 10 in a box somewhere.
I feel you. Just recently lost a GoPro. Sat it down after fixing the chain on my bike and forgot to pick it up. By the time I got back to where I left it, someone else took it. Bummer.
I suffer from chronic pain. One morning I showed up at the bus depot with shampoo still in my hair! Next time you should bring a pole with. An extendable pole from a pruning saw would be even better.
Welcome to RC boats! NEVER operate an RC boat without a real boat to use to fetch the RC one. It's not an if, but a WHEN! Capsizing, dead battery, out of fuel, broke, caught-up in weeds, or whatever the reason, you will at some point have to go and retrieve it. I too learned the lesson the hard way. I had a nitro powered boat and wanted to test a new exhaust "real quick". It was going great and was about to bring it in when I jumped a wave which disconnected the servo batteries. It took off full throttle towards the other end of the lake out of sight. I was able to flag down someone in a real boat and went and found my RC lodged under a boat lift. The impact split the hull and cracked the full tank. But I got it back and learned some lessons.
(a measly) important actor for their commercials. Hope someone finds it and will find it useful anyways. And if now knowing whose it is - not returning it
That's the little boy in many of us. But thank God the Adult prevailed, as that is how we not only lose gopros & boats, but it is how we lose little boys.
You can try different thing to mitigate this next time. Put an old phone on the board you will have gps tracking. Also Drive along the river and try to catch it. Or have a rescue Drone with magnetic coupling or some kind of zipline attached to it. Also you can have some kind of net shooter apliance. See how easy is to be smart aftervards. Mevermind me I just like to think tank.
Sorry about the loss. 😡. When I was at sea, we called that a catastrophic loss in GM (geometric centre of gravity). The GoPros and the little 3d printed figure were too much for the rc boat.
I lost my gopro! in a huge bush! Looked for 2 hours Came in and watched your review with Derral and Now back out I go to find it. Should take another couple of hours. I AM SO FRUSTRATED

Or have a rescue Drone with magnetic coupling or some kind of zipline attached to it. Also you can have some kind of net shooter apliance. See how easy is to be smart aftervards. Mevermind me I just like to think tank.
You should try a Scott ransom mountain bike my dad just got one and there awesome
Sorry dude. Great video though
Sorry for your loss.
Very entertaining, note to Seth - do a test float first 😂, hope someone finds it & you get it back 🤟

“I’m capable of thinking things through - but I don’t”
This sounds like me 🤦🏻♂️😅🤣
I really hope whoever finds it finds a video of Seth throwing it in and freaking out as it capsizes.😂😂
GoPro on an extension puts a lot of weight above the center of balance. This is the perfect model of why you don't stand up in a rowboat.
Sorry about the loss. 😡. When I was at sea, we called that a catastrophic loss in GM (geometric centre of gravity). The GoPros and the little 3d printed figure were too much for the rc boat.
Reminds me of a film that the National Film Board of Canada made called Paddle to the Sea. It's worth a watch :)
Its good to see im not the only one loosing gopros in stupid ways
Seth should have another channel for reviews like these
I lost my gopro! in a huge bush! Looked for 2 hours Came in and watched your review with Derral and Now back out I go to find it. Should take another couple of hours. I AM SO FRUSTRATED
hope you find it! wish I could take my kayak out to look.
always look forward to a new berm peak express video!
