My favourite Optimus prime figure of my childhood. I never had the chance to buy him. I wish one day, I can have the original too haha
This is a Certified Prime Classic.
As a kid, this was my favorite Optimus beside Bendy Prime. It took me forever to figure out the windvane could transform into his big rifle. According to Prime’s Cloud iteration that used this figure, that gun in particular is his most preferred!
Also I used to rotate the arm shields to double as power-punch gauntlets. Tons of memories with this guy.

I should be more specific, I meant the Transformers Cloud version of Optimus Prime. Cloud was a small Japanese exclusive toyline for Transformers's 30th anniversary. Lorewise, these versions of the characters are from a dimensional nexus known as "Cloud World" and they battle across the multiverse.
As for the toyline, it repainted Prime's and Megatron's Classics toys while making characters of other molds through repaints, like using Thrilling 30s Springer's mold for Hot Rod, or Whirl for Shockwave. Roadbuster was repainted into Energon Ironhide's colors, based on that particular Ironhide being called Roadbuster in Japan's Super Link.

I lost my entire G1 collection from my childhood when I left home, and this and MP4 were two of the first figures I bought new as an adult that restarted my collection and interest in the hobby. Hard to believe that its been 20 years since release now, and 20 years before that the OG G1.
The best thing about the alt mold for me is the actual operator cabin visible through the clear windows, complete with seats, a dashboard, and steering wheel.
The funny thing about this figure is, it’s great, but only came out 3 times in American markets in normal prime colors, meanwhile Japan got it in every G1 line. Henkei twice, United twice, Cloud, and apparently legends got some kind of release of it but I’ve never seen it.
I got the Cloud version since I had missed alot of the earlier releases

@@treebotreviews I got Cloud Optimus when he first came out, I didn't have any other versions of classics Optimus and was worth paying a bit extra for a premium deco. Checked my Robotkingdom order. I paid $85 USD back in 2014.
I think this mold overall has 13 different decos when you count the nemesis, magnus, botcon, and legends manga convoy releases. Wild.

Looking back at 06, the Transformers feel like what G1 was to that era of Transformers at the time. Transformations were simple, the colors were mostly bright or vibrant. Articulation wouldn't be nearly as complex as today. Most certainly a lot less hollow plastic too. Wish I could go back in time to be a kid at that point again, in between two different eras of Transformers.
I bought myself a copy of this toy back when it came out from my local Walmart and I still have it, this is a definitive pre movie Optimus Prime look. I may love my Earth Rise Optimus Prime but the Classics versions will always holds my nostalgia.
Yeah, he is the thrilling 30th anniversary, and this was my definitive Optimus Prime at that time.. I loved that this version paint scheme is like the G1 version.
This became a benchmark, it may not have the modern compression engineering we are used to now, but that faux grill torso is something still used today.
I have the Scourge repaint of this alongside the fans project armor. It's so cool and hasn't been topped aesthetic-wise
I am a sucker for vehicle modes that look like real vehicles, and Classics was GREAT for that, even if they are somewhat stylized. Classics Prime has that Peterbilt 372 look, Classics Bumblebee looks like a real 2-door hatchback (that's how you do the mini-vehicles, Hasbro, stop making them with penny racer proportions, make them compact cars). These days a lot of Generations car modes, when they can't/won't get the license just end up looking really generic, where the most you can say is "yeah that's a car", or "that's a truck". I'd love to see a return to this style of alt-mode in future lines. Not to mention the panel lines--Classics Prime makes it clear where the actual door is, which is something that can be hard to find on some more recent Optimi.
The ultra Magnus vs skyward was my first transformer ever
Super nostalgic figure for me. I had a friend who had one as a kid and I was immensely jealous of it until years later I finally got the mold (in the two-pack with Evasion Optimus), and one that I will keep in my collection regardless of how many Primes I get with increasing levels of accuracy.
I’m so happy I still have this prime figure, still holds up to this day!
Man, now THIS is nostalgic! This was my go to Prime for years when I was a kid. I always wanted the Armor upgrade at the time, since it was all the rage back then, and I had only seen that animation you played and I wanted it so bad. Too expensive for a kid around like 9-10 but I enjoyed the base figure for such a long time. Memories man, memories.
I always liked the aerodynamic alt mode of this thing. I bought the nemesis prime version specifically to swap heads with the voyager aoe Galvatron.
I still have the Hasbro Classics, Henkei Convoy, and Botcon Ginrai from this mold.
I used to have Tokyo Toy Show United Black Convoy, Tokyo Toy Show Henkei Crystal Convoy, SDCC Nemesis, United Ultra Magnus, Classics Ultra Magnus, TFCloud Optimus, and e-Hobby exclusive Magna Convoy. I tried collecting everything, including the KOLD-branded knockoffs. The one thing that eluded me: Botcon Shattered Glass Optimus.
Eventually I sold off everything except for the first three I mentioned. These are now in storage as Earthrise Prime has taken the mold's spot on my display cab but it remains my favorite CHUG OP to date.
I somehow never found one of these despite looking for him when he was new. Looks like a real solid Optimus.
God this unlocked a lot of happy memories for me. This was my first Optimus Prime figure and I remember receiving this figure back when I was a kid (it was out of box so it didn't have the shield or the SMGs) from one of my lolas/grandmas when they visited the Philippines.
Update: there was a toy sale here in our area the other day and I managed to snag him along with power of the primes Optimus and Rodimus
I own the original and the AOE Evolution version. I love the Siege and Earthrise Primes a lot and even Reactivate Prime, but Classics is still staying on my Optimus Prime/Megatron shelf
I bought a 3D printed upgrade kit for him that gives Classics Optimus Prime ankle pivots and proper hands and wrist rotation. I wish they did a ball joint for the head, and he definitely needs a chest chamber with a Matrix of Leadership. I also own Ultra Magnus with the City Commander Armor and I love it. This was my modern updated G1 Optimus Prime, and I still love it, and I even bought the G3 Trailer for it which is beyond awesome. I wish for that chest chamber and Matrix as I said, if I had a 3D printer I would design one for him.
As proud owner of the Henkei(Japanese version) I agree. I caught a second Classics Prime at a fleamarket and use for it for the Delta Magnus armor from Fansproject. Yeah, those were the days.
I own the Magnus variant of this mold. Got it at a second-hand store, so it's missing all the weapons, but still a beautiful figure. I should see if those upgrade kits are still around!
Still holds up imo, absolute baller toy.

I absolutely Love this figure and I got it off eBay and it's a version where the grill is shiny and there's an Autobot logo on his shoulder.

I got this when it was originally released. I remember being really stoked because of how close to G1 he was.
This is probably my choice for favourite transformer ever made. I got my copy 100% complete for about $25 CAD because the shop I bought it from didn’t know the wind vein became a gun and assumed the second gun was missing.
It’s a real classic in every sense of the word. I’m looking for the Henkei and Magnus recolours at Tfcon as well

This one was my first ever Transformers toy. I don't remember where I got it from as I was like 4 years old when it released but I still have it to this day and it's great. Just one problem it's very yellowed.
This is such a good mould, I love the weapon integration into the vehicle mode
Strangely enough, my first introduction (and only version that I own) to the mold was the Shattered Glass version of the figure. He's definitely a LOT of fun to handle and pretty stunning in every color scheme I've seen.
I can still remember walking into ToysRUs nearly 2 decades ago and finding the entire first wave of classics and then walking out with a lighter wallet
It would be cool to see this design updated in a new figure. Ankle tilts and wrist swivels would make all the difference, plus just getting one that isnt 18 years old and inevitable to have paint scratches and such

The Classics toy designs are honestly a great modernization of the G1 guys. Bumblebee is another example of being pretty solid. Kind of hope that if Hasbro does do more G1, it's like what Classics was going for. Tank Galvatron when.

Watching that transformation really shows a lot of similarities to siege prime there, like the arms with panels folding out and becoming the sides, the side panels covering up things and locking in around the wheels, big top thing from the backpack on a series of hinges, siege just forgoes the swivel for a bunch of leg swiveling and that cool wheels in the sides thing
Somehow I've never seen a classics prime transformation at all despite being a transformers fan for like. a bit over a decade but. I was born the year it came out soooo
I got an incomplete Age of Extinction version cheap to use with the Parallax Upgrade kit which was cheaper than the shipping to Scotland but liked the Classics version so much I decided I had to find a complete version too.....and I definitely agree prices on ebay are getting not just a bit steep but effing vertical.

Still in my top 10 toys, top 5 Optimus Primes in my opinion, I adore this figure to death and back and it remains one of my favourites.
I own this figure but I got it from a friend and it's in horrible shape, his horns are broken, he's missing the gun, the grey is yellow, and he's missing both front feet, the heels are still there, I'm so happy to see this video rn because I never got to see what he used to look like. The fact he looked this cool I'm devastated to know how much of him is destroyed on mine...
the gun transforming into the windvane is very clever
I love this prime! I've seen a fan mode where you can combine this with the jetfire from the same line and it looks so badass

If he got a legacy remake with the wrist swivel and ankle pivot it would be so good
I have the Age of Extinction version, since it's the only one with clear windows/windshield. He looks great, super athletic and the joints are still stiff 10 years later
@5:50 I’ve owned multiple versions of this mold and I’ve never had it click like that when the thighs are raised all the way, maybe like a soft click at most. Weird…

I really love this figure, I dont regret paying a little extra for the Henkai version (and Henkai Starscream) way back, totally earned a spot a the front on my shelf. Been really careful with that chrome though.

I got Classics Optimus loose but complete just yesterday. It was a figure I wanted at 12-13 and finally got at 30.
If I had to keep one G1 Optimus, I'd genuinely have a hard time picking between Classics and Earthrise.
I remember this figure having and unofficial combination with Jetfire.

I have the Takara Cloud Optimus Prime version of the classics mold. A great deco of this figure.
You are actually supposed to turn the head 180 before folding it in for truck mode to hid his face in case you don't have the wind vane. The fact that it holds up visually even without his accessories just shows how much thought they used to put into these designs.
I have the Nemesis Prime version, and to this day it's still my definitive version of the character. Scourge is a seperate guy in my head, and the Legacy Scourge is mt go-to for him.
This was originally meant to be a Deluxe figure with a trailer sold at Voyager price, which is a way that the toy influenced modern figures that a lot of people don't know about. It was going to have a battle mode and would be able to fit Classics Bumblebee and his jet ski trailer. Apparently that would have pushed it so far past budget that they scrapped the trailer and upsized Prime instead.
I still have this fiigure and got the 3rd party trailer. Still holds up today!
I have this prime in this and 2 other variants including the white Ultra Magnus, And they are 3 of my favourites.
Came out when i was 11, i got him when I was just 27. Though half the handle for the smokestack blaster is missing.
Still one of the best G1 inspired Optimus Primes released to date. Never thought of the arm bits as shields as they're always been truck kibble as far back as I can remember. The SMG is easily my favorite accessory, and it's really clever how it folded open to store on the back of the truck disguised as smokestacks. Had the Ultra Magnus VS Skywarp back and the day but had to sell off to pay bills which still makes me kinda sad as I lost Cliffjumper as well. Siege Prime I feel was probably the best G1 inspired figure to follow up this guy and that's a lot of years in between.

Only recently found this guy, only started collecting again in '21. Since, got this guy, one with the armour kit, an oversize one and 2 magnus with the city commander and the same armour kit as Prime.
Ebay is mental, hardly ever use it.
I have the AoE anniversary pack, playing with this mold makes me wonder why Classics is very underrated.

I had the Ultra Magnus repaint and the white, green and purple variant of Megatron.
I loved it, but I still wish I had the classic Optimus colour variant. And yeah, I never had the SMG either 🤣🤣

I mean, it's a _good_ toy, but not really iconic. It barely has more articulation than Hero Optimus Prime from 1994! In fact, that one has superior knees that bend all the way, twin shoulder joints, and neither gun was floppy (one was rather dangerous though). And _that_ toy had _zero_ kibble! Although the 2006 does stand up much better, I'll give you that.

My best friend had this toy, remember wanting it really bad the plastic is soo hard and heavy such good quality, but I was always the bayverse and aligned kid and still am (Bayverse 07 rotf and dotm are the best and are great movies only transformers fans hate them besides 2006-2008 kids) Now I love a lot of things transformers Classics Optimus is one of the goats mainly because Absurdly awesome

I never had this but I did absolutely eat up most of the Classics line in general. I had the Megs vs Prime two pack that came with the DVD which despite clearly being G1 inspired was all about the Unicron Trilogy. The light piping on that OP was bonkers.
Weirdly, that two pack has one of my favorite Megs color schemes for the tank mode despite being one of the worst transformations for the tank Megs.

Prolly my #1 grail figure. I've always wanted this version of Prime, ever since I was little. Not that he's *too* expensive or hard to find, but he is somewhat elusive for me. I wouldn't mind having another version of the mold, but come on. It's Optimus.
I love this figure so much. I have around 40 Prime figures and this one is in my top 5 ever
I like Classics Optimus alot. I don't have him, & I probably will never get him, but hes just so cool! Hes not the best Optimus Prime figure ever & he doesn't need to be. All that matters is if hes good enough [as a figure] & cool, which he succeeds at beautifully (especially the design). I like the bot & truckmodes, both are really cool & nice. It would be kinda cool if they were to revive/update this design. In Legacy perhaps? Or whatever's after Legacy, be it "Prime(s)", "Age of Primes", or whatever the title is.
VNR Optimus kinda-sorta, a little bit reminds me of Classics Optimus in botmode, but less bulky & chunky. Its kinda cool. I still want VNR Optimus.
