This is what RUclips should be. Not just a master boatbuilder but a master craftsman sharing the entire physical and mental process of sculpting a boat. You won't find anything like this on cable TV. And the best part is that it will be available practically forever. Thank you!
You are most welcome. I don't specifically think of myself as a master. Despite having been doing this for close to thirty years it still feels like I still have too many questions and not enough answers. I do what I can to share my experiences. I'm glad you're enjoying the ride along.
@@Nomadboatbuilding Wisdom is knowing there's always more to learn. Or so I've been told.
Shaving horse. Absolutely ingenious
Stolen directly from Fine Woodworking Magazine. Sorry, don't remember which issue.
Love your reverence for the wood you use and the ethical way you choose the pieces you need.
I do what I can to do justice to the trees. Whether it’s a tropical hardwood or a local construction grade softwood, I treat them with a similar reverence and take note of when a particular piece stands out from the crowd as exceptional. What bothers me most is that some of my local boat building species are being priced well above tropical imports. It’s creating tension between economics and ethics.
Can't believe I'm the first one here! That is a beautiful piece of spruce. I think you need a longer shaving horse for pieces that long (lol). Thank you for the video Mark. Take care, stay well and have a great weekend.
First off the mark as usual Matt. I guess by your reasoning, the longer the trail, the longer the horse I should be riding.
Lovely video, thanks. That's a gorgeous piece of close-grained timber. I wish you Americans would use riving knives, guards and proper rip fences when using your table saws, but hey......your fingers, your choice.
I don't think I've ever seen a draw knife with folding handles before. I guess they'd be easier to carry around in a toolbox. Is it an old tool? It looks quite new.
Probably Greenlee drawknife, I was just going to comment on it
It's a Wilkinson actually. Yes it is an antique. One of my favourite tools.
Wrong answer Bob but good guess just the same.
@@Nomadboatbuilding That was the only one I knew of with folding handles. I have several non-folding ones from building selfbows.
