I think the die cut thing is supposed to be like a spoon end? If you just use the bowl part from the mixer, you can have a spoon end sticking out of it. That's my best guess!
I loved this video! Great process and you are a pleasure to listen too. I love the whole idea of it from the envelope accordion pages to the bread tabs. TFS Rebekah
Omgosh! This is fabulous!! I love it! I really would love to make one! Would be such an amazing gift for someone as well! thank you so much for sharing and doing the tutorial! hugs Rachel
I luv it! Great idea and I think it turned out fabulous! Luv the paper and the cover is so cool! I've done a book cutout like this before and I know it is not as easy as one would think. TFS! xo
Oooooo...this is amazing!!! The little piece you don't know what it is, it's the silver label strip on the mixer. If you look at kitchenaid mixers, there's your extra piece! Love your work!!!! I'd love to try something like this! God bless! 🌺
Hi Angela. Your recipe book is so cute. Thanks for taking the time to do the tutorial because I think it would be so much fun to try one myself. Again this book is really cute and so creative. Hugs, Wanda
So creative! I LOVE the expandy envelopes. I will definitely be using that one, along with the tea bag tabs. When I saw those in your journal, I immediately thought of using bread tabs the same way.....and THEN I saw that you did that too. LOL New subbie here. :-)
OMG this is beyond any words i could use to describe it! It's amazing and now I want one, and I barely cook anymore, lol... Loved watching the process. What paper line did you use for this, it's so, so cute? Love your work, TFS ~ leslie
OMG! This is such a cool altered book! What a neat idea, especially for recipes ❤ It would be a great wedding present or new home present for someone just starting out! Thank you for sharing with us. PS - I call those magazine subscription cards "magazine seeds" since they grow new magazines ;)
That line under the rolling pin looks like board that you roll on. I think. Love this altered cook book journal, I am so inspired, I am gonna make one for myself! Not for cooking but something else :) Thanks for sharing and let me learn from your mistakes (?). I think it turned out awesome and super cute!!!
Who makes the recipes chip board piece? Can you still buy it? I want to make this for my daughters and my daughter-in-laws. Love it. I was hoping you would have a list of the supplies. I heard you say who makes it but I couldn't understand the words.
This idea is so great. And I love that you shared it. My mom passed away and I was making my girls a " Little Darling "book of recipes. They called her Darling. I've collected pictures and recipes that belonged to her and this is a great idea. I think I'll use it. I've been searching for an idea that will work. I think this is it. So thank you very much.
At first I always get a little upset when I saw books (any kind of books) being destroyed. It gives me the creep. But, I'm glad you did it! It turned out to be great! Love it!
I love it! You have inspired me to do one for my mom. She has tons of very old recipe clipping, etc. I will be in search of an old recipe book at the junk stores! I think that die that is under your rolling pin is the holder for it. My mom has a rolling pin made of marble. It is very heavy and it requires a holder on the counter when you use it. You would break it or your toe if it landed on it! LOL... thanks for sharing! cj
The other below the rolling pin with handles is a rolling pin as well . My DIL uses that kind and in fact gave me one. Your hands warm the wood, therefore transferring the warmth to your pastry or dough to soften it. Now you know. Lol.
Love the Recipe book idea Angela, but where did you buy your retro papers at? They are exactly what I am looking for! Also I think this style of book would be a great memories book of a loved one.... Tfs. Carrie
I recognized some of the papers from Echo Park. ..called Happiness is Homemade, and Carta Bella makes a paper pak called Homemade With Love...both can be found on Amazon...
Angela this is super cute! I tried making a book like this 20ish years ago as a teen to hide my "special treasures". My cavity was not nearly as uniform as yours! lol. I think the tabs are my favorite part.
***** i don't, sadly. I am a hardcore purger and must have gotten rid of it before I got married. It's one of only a few things I ever regret getting rid of.
I don't know if you ever tried this again, but my husband made one of these and he found it easier to glue it first from the outside and then cut the cavity. It worked like a charm. It is really misleading though on the size of the cavity. They always look like they will be larger than they turn out!!!! Yours is really nice! I would have had a HARD time cutting up an old cookbook!!!! hahaha!!!!!!
How cute! You did an amazing job! My mom has been telling me that we need to get together and put our recepies in a book and I have been think of making a junk journal for us. I love the dies you used! They are too cute! Would you be willing to cut me some and send them to me? I can send you my address. Just let me know. Thank you hun and God bless😀💖💜😄
What a cool idea! Using an old recipe book for a recipe book... I love it! When you do a book like that glue the pages together only on the 3 sides first before you cut into it. Stand the book up on its spine then glue. Then you can cover the back and glue your pages down after the sides are dry. Then it makes it easier to cut into. Hope this helped a little. Thanks for sharing. :-)
Angela Blanchard That's awesome! I love repurposing items & I'm just getting back into crafting & love these Journals made out of almost anything & everything! Loving seeing everyone's creative process as well. xxoo
Re: taping paper in the book- Does the tape come apart from the book after time? I wondered if the chemicals in the tape disintegrate and would come apart after some years go by? Do you know? I am new to this....
Thank you Angela. I will go in search of Skor Tape. I live in a rural area and we don't have many of the products shown on RUclips. I may have to wait until I head to a large are and check craft stores-any particular store? Also, I did not really see how you covered the binding of your book w/red duct tape-did you cover it all with no seam showing from the tape? I very much appreciate your time.
The answer to your question about the kitchen aid is seen in an image on the cover of your journal. This mixer has a tradicional stripe, I believe in silver, that goes along the main body of the machine.
***** Angela, I know exactly how that feels, especially with some stamp sets. The reason I knew the answer is because I'm a kitchen gadget stamp and die addict! lol
I really like that. I finished my first junk journal and had fun and I never have fun, lol. Now I'm on the Smash Books but I'm stuck and I hate that and with the junk journal, I didn't have to think about what I wanted to put or anything. I just covered all the pages and then decorated them with stuff I like and it looks like an accordion. LOL! I know I need to tell myself it doesn't matter what the theme is or if I cover something up in the smash books so then I can work on it because If I don't get unstuck it will seem like a chore instead of fun and it's suppose to be fun. So do you have any tips, advice, suggestions, anything?
My guess is that the little strip is to cut a piece of paper to go into the bowl to look like a spoon. Great altered book. And I love seeing them altered, rather than thrown in the trash. So much better.
I love this recipe book. I have a huge collection of recipes and I might give this a go. You can cut back on the wander from the envelopes if you adhere them together in sets, start with just two, adhere them together, then adhere two to two, four to four and so on until they're all together. Also, I think the straight piece in your die set is another rolling pin, like the kind you'd use for fondant, without handles.

Wow! Your altered books are always so amazing! This is so clever and well made
Where did you get the "Fresh Produce" stamp? Love it! Sandy
I loved this video! Great process and you are a pleasure to listen too. I love the whole idea of it from the envelope accordion pages to the bread tabs. TFS Rebekah
Hi this a really great idea! But you maybe should have glued or painters taped the pages on the edges before you started cutting. Just an idea!
oh ,I want to ask ,since I am new to all of this .what is the difference in a Junk Journal and a Smash book ??
I think the stick is suppose to be the end of a spatula.. you can put it in the blender.
NO, NO, NO, NO!!!! That's Amy Vanderbild's Complete Cookbook in good condition... You just made me cry.
+Angela Blanchard Did you know that the original illustrations in your wonderful altered cookbook were done by a young Andy Warhol? ( :
Omgosh! This is fabulous!! I love it! I really would love to make one! Would be such an amazing gift for someone as well! thank you so much for sharing and doing the tutorial!
hugs
Rachel
Great idea! Thanks for your good way of presenting your video. No nonsense just a precise presentation. Thanks for sharing.
+Nancy Allen AMEN....no chatter about her...children...loss of work etc..Just info for us ...to make these... :) Job well done...
I luv it! Great idea and I think it turned out fabulous! Luv the paper and the cover is so cool! I've done a book cutout like this before and I know it is not as easy as one would think. TFS! xo

That line under the rolling pin looks like board that you roll on. I think.

That is absolutely fabulous. What a creative idea. Thank you for such clear instructions and a flip through. Love it!
This is absolutely amazing!! Gave me lots of inspiration. Thank you so much!!

You have SO many cute cookbook type stamps, where did you get those? I am really going to try this! Sandy
The die cut is a rolling pin, they're both rolling pins of different kinds, I've seen them use it when they made pizza and such.
love your cookbook ,how many pages do you keep before you start glueing them down to cut and where do you get the lil tea bags tab from thanks theresa
Loved your recipe book., gave an idea to make a baby photo, memory book. Thank you for sharing your talents.
My boyfriends mom is a baker, so I'd love to make something like this for her. :)
I disagree with destroying books. When there are 1000s of different options.
This is wonderful. Great idea and tutorial. Thanks for sharing!
I forgot to add to my comment. I think it would be cute to add some lace around the edges.
Adorable book! I love all the kitchen stamps you used.
I just found this video and I like this idea. Did this work for you did you change it at all over the last two years?

Love this! Well done - great ideas!
Lots of wonderful ideas!!!
I love that, it's amazing. So on the envelopes did you cut the top off and one of the sides? Thanks, Niki

Ohhh I so Like the way you did this ! Thank you.
it is a lovable recipe book. Love the idea.
My guess is that the little strip is to cut a piece of paper to go into the bowl to look like a spoon. Great altered book. And I love seeing them altered, rather than thrown in the trash. So much better.
I just had another guess. It is the strip going across the top of the mixer like a Kitchaid has.
Thank you Angela for the information.
Fantastic idea, combines my love of boxes with junk journals and so practical. Delighted I found your video! 💕
That is BEAUTIFUL!!!
Love it Angela!!
This was an awesome idea and I love your finished project! I never would have thought to use the bread tabs and tea bag tags!
Absolutely adorrrrrable!!!

I love this recipe book. I have a huge collection of recipes and I might give this a go.

Love this so many ideas for this concept. I plan to make one to keep my business expense receipts in. Thanks for sharing.
I've wanted to make a family recipe book for a long time, but didn't know how to go about it. This is such a great idea! And so cute!
