I used to have the black one a year ago and I sold it later. Now I have the white one.
You know what I am still missing the black one and the key mission I have in this year is to get the black one again.
I love the contrast of the gloss black dial and brush stainless steel of the sub dials.
Good video and keep doing it 😊

Both are great but I slightly prefer the black dial. I've seen both in-person and the black is extremely versatile, while the white appears more sporty. Both can be worn with anything and you'd be lucky to own either, let alone both.

My thoughts exactly, but for the same reason, I prefer the white dial. lol. There are sooooo many black bezel/black dial options out there. The white dial daytona, to me, is the ultimate watch to wear casually during the warmer months.

Sheldon totally agree that the white dial Daytona is a fantastic summer option and definitely better than the black option. Throw it on a rubber strap and it will pop even more.

I’ve always preferred the black dial without knowing precisely why, and your explanation of their differences helped me put words to my gut instinct. But I would also add that the black dial is more understated and nuanced. People don’t know it’s a Daytona at first, whereas the white dial is unmistakable. I actually prefer the under-the-radar mystique of the black dial version. It’s very sexy and quite exotic.

    • @ElementsMMA
      @ElementsMMA 3 года назад +1

@@bearclooneywatches4186 that’s my point, I haven’t got tired of it. And in any case I have become tired of certain remarkable timepieces before. My rhodesium Yachtmaster for example. Just because a timepiece is remarkable does not guarantee the wearer will never tire of it. More understated watches tend to have less wow factor when you begin wearing them again after a substantial amount of time off the wrist, yet the wearer does not tire of wearing it, whereas flashier timepieces are more instantly appealing but that appeal is more likely to wear off faster. That is in my experience.

Great comparison video here Bear 🐻. The white dialed Daytona has to be my favourite. It looks so much better since they introduced the Cerachrome bezel to it as well. Such great contrasts between black and white on the whole head of the watch. It does look slightly smaller than the all black version but, I quite like that characteristic.

I love these kind of videos, I could watch them all day 😊
I am more drawn to the aesthetics and purity of the black Daytona and have that one, but I think in a comparison video, you need to look at legibility, which I give to the white dial.
Lastly, because the watch doesn’t have a date, I see it as more of a special occasion watch, which I think the black enhances.
You can’t go wrong, but love hearing all the different opinions, which are all very subjective.

I had a choice of black or white (unfortunately not both) and chose the white dial because I already own black dial version of the 116520. However, I like both versions and agree with your assessment. The black dial has a sleek uniform look and seems to wear a little larger whereas the white dial has a sharper, crisper look while being significantly more legible. The black dial is more subtle whilst the white version can be spotted a mile away and has attracted some unwanted attention from random strangers (in watch boutiques) asking me where I purchased my Rolex. You can’t go wrong with either version of the SS Daytona and I want to eventually get the black dial also. Thanks for the great comparison!

Great watches bear , but I still think the previous steel bezel model is a much more flowing piece . The steel bezel compliments the bracelet, as the ceramic bezel on the new model seem to stop the flow of the watch . The steel bezel seems to tie everything in ,

Both are beautiful. On steel bracelets, both are great steel sports watch but the black can easily switch from casual to tux. But no matter what one chooses, Same as the Submariner, the fact that the Daytona is still sought after and has the least changes thru the years means that Rolex made the perfect chronograph. Great vid!!! My opinion... both sport Rolex, but the white dial is more sporty the black is more dressy. I hope Rolex doesn’t change the Daytona to a Super Oyster case. My prediction for the future... Rolex might make a true panda dial. Solid color sub dials. Unfortunately they are very difficult to find at retail (which is the most affordable price). If you are friends with your local AD, next on the “list”, or a high dollar VIP customer. Go for it. I think the days of wear n tear patina are gone. These modern Rolex watches are designed to withstand aging. Which makes sense for the price Rolex asks for. If I’m going to pay $12k - $20k I want my watch to look new in 20-30 years from now. That will be money well spent (aside of the collector value). At first I didn’t like the Daytona but after trying one on, it grew on me and I kinda get it (design fit function). If I were to get one. This is the only Rolex I would keep.

In my humble opinion, the white dial is best in stainless, while the black dial is best in gold. Now, there’s no way around this, the full gold black dial Daytona is most suiting men with dark or tanned skin color.
    So platinum is grail ))

But you can “pull off” a full gold watch even today. Even without a crusty tan. Just not a huge sports Rolex. But a dress watch with elegant suit...just maybe.
I’m very pro white gold for white guys though

I do not like the modern Daytona. Aesthetically, the best Daytona, IMHO, is the Ref. 6265. I would really like this Ref. reissued in 40mm, because everything is so well thought on that model: The bezel is not too narrow, not to wide (the ceramic bezel is disproportionate, and did not need to be so), the dial was uncluttered in the 6265, with a good separation between the sub-dials that improve legibility and, by the way, they were perfectly position related to the center of the dial, also helping to the symmetry and general harmony of the design. Also, it had just the right amount of text. Of course, since now it is an automatic movement and Rolex likes to add it "Oyster perpetual" feature text, the change from 37 to 40mm would help make the dial less busy even with this text added and as in Ref. 6265, they could get rid of the three, six and nine indices to separate more the sub-dials and center them, improving legibility symmetry as mentioned before and give space for the additional text. Great video as always. I always enjoy your no-nonsense and humble approach to watch reviews.
