    This watch is my favorite in my small collection. It is beautiful without being showy and pretentious. I miss the date function, but having it (and the cyclops) would ruin the symmetry and perfect look of the dial. And the pushers on the side, surrounding the crown, look so cool to me. I’m seriously considering selling every other watch I own because I only want to wear this particular watch, and that includes in both casual and dressy attire.

      How many other watches do you have? I'm curious because, as a former Sub owner, I know a lot of Sub, GMT, or Daytona owners are happy with just 1 do it all watch, that was certainly me.

      rnunez70681 I have a GMT, a Sub, and a YM 40. Of these the YM 40 is my favorite. It has a very similar case to the Daytona and also a date function, so it’s good at work. The GMT and Sub are quite bulky, and that can be a little annoying.

      @@scottrodgers9073 Yes, that's why I sold my Sub. I wasn't enjoying wearing it. A little down the road I'm going to look for either a 40mm Explorer II, or a Daytona. I can't make up my mind. I like both. I think they are both very wearable

      rnunez70681 the Daytona is so comfortable, you hardly notice it. And yet when you look at it, you just can’t believe you have something that special. It’s spectacular and as close to perfect as a watch can be.

      No, it has never been, which leads me to believe that one day it'll be more collectible probably. On ebay the black face starts around 19k now. The white face around 22k, both pre-owned. If you have a relationship with a Rolex AD and you have gotten pieces from them then you will probably wait less than 1 year. Just bought a Zenith Chronomaster El Primero which runs at 36000 beats per hour and gains 1 second per week! Tell me how the Rolex is better please.

    • @rnunez70681
      @rnunez70681 4 года назад +5

      Is not better Mate. Zenith is a great brand, and El Primero a great movement. And if you are happy with your watch, then great, look and say no further. But many of us aspire to the Daytona because of the design and the history. And I hate the fact that they cost a lot more than msrp to get one (if you can't get put on a waiting list like me). But that's the only way to get one unfortunately. My dream car is the 911 (which I can't afford), my favorite car is the Mustang GT, which I will be able to afford and is a great car, but it's not the 911. I will still buy the GT because I really like it and I won't feel like I'm settling by buying it. If I do get a Zenith El Primero (which I don't like, but I can afford right now) instead of a Daytona (that I'm saving for but it'll take a few years) then I would feel like I'm settling.

    • @robertdeieso
      @robertdeieso 4 года назад

      I’ve owned them all from Rolex Daytona’s, Submariners, Panerai, Omega, Cartier. The Zenith looks better and works better. Bang for buck, unbeatable. Having said that, we are all different I suppose. Having owned various Rolex watches, I find them a little dull.

    • @rnunez70681
      @rnunez70681 4 года назад +1

      @@robertdeieso I seriously considered an El Primero a few years back, but the 42mm case and thickness turned me off, so I pulled the trigger on another Sub, which I recently sold because I finally realized I just did not enjoy wearing it. Having said that, I am now considering the Hand Wound El Primero black dial Chronograph from the 90s. 38mm, black dial, large arabic numbers, manual wound, it just ticks a lot of boxes for me.

    • @therealkiasu

      The Zenith is a wonderful watch ... but the Daytona is the most sought after watch of the last 35 years. Only, as of late, has one watch become more sought after - the Nautilus 5711 with blue dial. But over time, no watch has ever been so revered by the watch world (and general public). I hate to say it, but 99% of the population has never even heard of Zenith. There is a reason why the Daytona is THE LEGEND.

      They dropped in price around March/April because of the pandemic. People were selling off their luxury items and they were priced to sell. I bought a mint white dial 116500LN from WatchBox with box and papers with 2 yrs left on the factory warranty for $22,000. They’ve already come back up to basically where they were before ($24k-$26k and above for watches with stickers still on). The black dials sell for $2k less on average than the white dial.

    • @boeing700
      @boeing700 4 года назад

      There will always be some sort of waiting list for a stainless steel Daytona. I doubt we will ever see these pieces just sitting in show cases at ADs. I was able to purchase a 2015 116520 model from my AD at the end of 2015. Even then before all this craze, I had to sit on a list for a about a month! I didn’t know at the time that there was such a thing as “waiting” for a watch that I was willing to spend money on! Normally, I’d be trying to get some kind of discount!
      The world may go back to a more “obtainable, normalized” way of doing business with these hard to get pieces, but not by much. There are still a lot of people in the world that can come up with $13,500 U.S. (there about) dollars to get one of these from an AD. Easier to obtain one? Perhaps. Readily available at most ADs? Not a chance. Rolex can, and will regulate the tap to control its prestige. They answer to nobody but themselves.

    • @rnunez70681
      @rnunez70681 4 года назад +1

      I'm saving for one too, but since I didn't qualify to be put on a wait list because I'm not a "customer" I'll have to spend after market price. I have seen the black dial go down from around 22k a few months ago to 19k in ebay right now, I'm sure in a couple more years it'll be closer to 16k. Still above msrp, but better than having to buy 2 other rolexes to be put on a list.

      Interestingly no one ever seems to complain about the waiting list of a steel PP😅

    • @rnunez70681
      @rnunez70681 4 года назад

      @@rayleeaustralia The waiting list on the PP is a relatively new affair. I remember than only a few years ago one could get an aquanut on ebay for less than 15k. I actually seriously considered saving for one for a time. One could also get a Nautilus on ebay for less than 20k. The waiting list on the Daytona has been going on for decades. One has always been able to buy kne right away, but it's going to cost a lot more than MSRP. In some sense, Rolex is responsible for the increased demand of the PP steel models. Even AP has seen an increase on demand on the RO due to this. But Rolex and PP are not stupid and they will continue to control supply of the steel models, I understand the philosophy behind PP doing this, since Terry Stern himself has admitted he reigns in production on steel. But for Rolex, I see this as a betrayal of it's roots, since most of the sales were from "tool" watches in the past, but now they would rather be seen as a "luxury" brand (which is not) and would rather push gold and 2 tone models and limit steel. But most of the gold and 2 tone models are, cough cough, ugly. But I do have to admit that the day date is a classic.
