Morning Rob. I’ve the ICON Stage 8 suspension 2.5” lift , added leaf pak in the rear, with 285/75 Toyo RT’s on 16” wheels. But my truck is used Offroad. No rubbing due to a cab-mount chop. No rubbing issues.
I have a really basic inexpensive lift on my 2008 Tacoma Sport. I have the Rancho quick lift it the quick lift strut assembly with Rancho shocks. I paid around $600 and it rides great and I have the same tire and rim set up as you do.
Rob what is your offset on your wheels? I plan on 17x8.5. with a 0° offset. Also going with a wescott design lift design with a larger shock collar in front shocks. Also loce those fuel wheels!
You're right man! I know if I had a lift I would NEVER want a rub! You gotta have the right wheel and tire set up! One that actually fits your lift lol.
I have 5100s all around with icon 1.5 rear AAL. No chops, rubs a little bit on full turns when reverse. Noticeable rubs when off roading but nothing to harsh.
I installed bigger tires on my 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport. Stock tire size is 265/65/R17, and I put on 275/70/R17 which lifted my truck just over an inch....nice!! Now, after all the research I did stated that was the biggest tire I could fit on my stock truck without any modifications, any modifications at all. Well, the front tires rub a bit when cranked hard over in reverse only...this to me is not acceptable. So, I'm putting in a lift kit, 2" in the front and 1.5" in the rear. The reputable shop thats doing the work states the OME products are better quality than the TRD Pro 2" lift kit and he guarantees my truck will handle and drive smoother then with the stock suspension. I will update this post once the work is done next week and I take my truck for a test ride. Love your Tacoma videos Rob!
@@RobMotive After lift, the truck handles nicely, hitting the speed bumps in my alley like they are barely there. I still have a bit of a forward stance (which I like), and it sits about an 1.5" higher. So after putting one the bigger tires and the lift, truck is sitting about 2.5" higher. Glad I got this work done.
Finally received my Bilsteins front and rear shocks, dropping the truck off monday and looking forward to a new look. will wait to see how it looks once completed and then will put 285 70 10 tires. toss up between Wildpeak or rough country. I guess for tires 150 per tire sounds reasonable, but 250 , ouch. i do like the KO2, well we shall see.. thanks for the information.
I had a 4/3 lift on my FJ cruiser and was running 34” tires. At full flex the rear tire would rub on the inside of the wheel well. Only at full flex though
Maybe someone can help? I have a stock 2006 Tacoma TRD Prerunner 2WD. The shocks are bad and I will be replacing them. Do I need to replace the strut springs or can I use the old ones? Also, What shocks do you recommend for the truck" I am thinking about getting the Bilstein 4600's. If I want to raise the front level Should I use the 5100's? I don't really want a lift, just leveled out.
Good morning Rob. Great honest review! My wife drives our Tacoma, she likes the look of lifted Tacomas. I tell her its expensive to go all out to properly lift vehicle, lots to cosider. Im going to forward ypur video so ypu can show her what you have learned. Thanks Rob!!
Before I got my 2022 taco I test drove(and did paperwork) a 2019 with 6” lift and 35’s and let me tell you it was a slug power wise and drove like crap! Sales manager had one with a 3”lift and hair bigger wheels and tires which is perfect in my opinion, but whenever you put bigger wheels and tires it’s harder on everything, brakes, motor, tranny, etc. appreciate your honesty! Have a fantastic day
I’d like to lift my 2014 Tacoma. We’ll never take it off road as this vehicle will be used as a trade show backdrop. In my situation, would it be better to use blocks and spacers for lift? I don’t want to spend on a suspension lift that will never see off road use. I’m merely wanting the look. What say you?
Eventually I'll probably to the same, think I'll change out the 4600's for 5100's on the rear only to begin with just to see if I can feel any difference..
So, I've been telling you for a while about lifting my Tacoma and all that. Well, I settled on a 2" lift front and 1 in the back, while keeping the 265/70r17 (32's). I do a lot of driving, especially for my fishing and I would hate to spend more money on the gas instead of the bait for fishing lol. But the truck now, which you already saw on Facebook, looks pretty cool and I love it. It is setup for my needs and works for me. I might go with 33's once the truck is paid off. But I will set it up the same way you did to avoid any rubbing stuff. 😀
I’ve watched countless videos on what kind of lift to do on my 21 taco. I’ve come to conclude that it’s just not worth it unless you’re off roaring all the time. I’m just bumping up the tire size to 265/75R/16 and calling it good.
@@Turtlemilk I caved and put on a 2.5 in spacer lift. Wasn’t happy with the slight Baja look so I put a 1.5 in add a leaf in the rear. Now I’m really happy! Looks amazing and zero rub. Frustrating how many options there are and how you can make serious mistakes if you aren’t careful
@@Rollingrock72 deng. I legit just bought a tacoma like 2 weeks ago and now I want to lift this truck up. I don’t even know what “Baja” or “leaf” means lmao

I have 18s on mine goodrich t/a with as you call it a hybrid lift system with no rub. Put heavy duty leaf springs and shocks on the back because i haul a scooter and lift with a diamond back bed cover and spare tire in the bed. Ride is pretty good. Gas mileage is another thing but gas mileage is not why i bought a Tacoma.
i got a ‘20 tacoma with 5100 all around, added an add-a-leaf, and front OME coils. does well, but i do rub(285/70/R17) when i off-road. i’m too lazy to trim. it does everything i want and need to do, plus it went up lifted about 2.5 inches. Only knock is i rake a little with my RTT/gear so i’m thinking of upgrading my leaf system soon, and possibly getting beefier shocks but not sure... also, Rob how do you like 6112s?
Rob did you change tire sensors? I am about to get a larger tire size and I was concerned with clearance and lights coming on on my dashboard, throwing off my odometer and any problems with transmission.
Sensors are not the issue. The trucks programming would have to be changed to register correctly for the larger tires. The shop you’re going to should be able to provide more detail👍
I had a 09 Holden Colorado and I went to a shop and asked the that I wanted 32inch mud tyres the told me it will be fine couple days later it’s started to run every time I went down my drive way i went back to the shop and they told me I was missing torsion bars which the 09 model never came with $3000 wasted I was 22 back then first and last mistake 😂😂😂 learnt it the hard way I guess

You'll still have the lean on the driver side. Before you lift, have each corner measured, can be fixed with a thin spacer added to the driver side or get adjustable shocks based on the measured difference.

Dude giving advice on a lift without doing an AAL at least. Axle wrap like a mfer. Spend the 200 on an icon add-a-leaf at least, blocks in the back will cause your rear axle to rotate under load, may not be right away, but eventually. And change your UCAs to something that allows proper clearance and chamber/toe and alignment adjustment options.
Matter of opinion…hah…axle wrap is a matter of physics for axle below spring rear setups. And by moving the axle further away from your spring with a block spacer, it increases the effect that the torque puts on the axle, causing more axle wrap. Can tell you don’t do any kind of wheeling with those uca’s at the angle their at, you would be eating spring at full droop.
