  • This presentation finishes a discussion of Augustin's view of the church, as One Holy Catholic, and Apostolic. From there we move to a discussion of one of the great controversies that occupied Augustin's attention, the Pelagian, with an introduction to the thought of Pelagius.

I have a certain spiritual connection to Augustin's thinking and life. Do you have a special admiration for a certain Church Father(s), Dr. Gore?

Pelagius used this maxim as a hermeneutical principle to justify his understanding of the means of salvation vis a vis Augustin.

Pelagius was not a Christian since he denied the importance of Christ as a perfect sacrifice in exchange for what perfect Adam lost for his descendants by wilfully disobeying God and losing their inheritance which was to live forever in a paradise on earth. People who have not really studied the Bible nor understand it and have a lot to say like Pelagius are dangerous.

You forgot Orthodox. Or right way…I’m surprised because Orthodoxy is the harmonic place where all of this works.

So a new born child is a sinner because adam ate an apple, and if not baptized before death, they are not saved. LOL
Yes, sounds pretty eternal reasoning to me.

We have to work toward perfection. We cannot truly be perfect until the end of the 1000 year reign of Christ. In the meantime we need the ransom sacrifice of Jesus for forgiveness of sin. To say that Adam's sin did not affect anyone else is to contradict the Bible, and to deny the need for Jesus' sacrifice that balanced the scales of justice required by God.

@@seanmoore1068 It sounds like you are not confident about your own Bible knowledge and need to listen to others, a situation I am not in regarding this matter.

If The Roman Catholic Church is not the church founded by Christ, then which individual or community did Christ leave the deposit of.faith with to interprete his teachings , lead his people , define what is truth, leave his authority with etc. Are all of these an all comers affair..Are all definitions and.interpretations of Christianity true?. Furthermore who defined what constitutes the word of God?. Is the babel called Christian denominations ( over one million) the will of God?. Your anology using Paul's argument on the seed of Abraham was quoted out of context. Paul believed and respected the hierarchy extreblished by Christ. He attended the Jerusalem Council where the hierarchy clearly determined the question of circumcision of gentiles and acceptance of gentiles into the church. Was the ancient nation of Israel hierarchical? Is heaven hierarchical?. Should the new testament Church be hierarchical ?. Is the the new testament Church God's Kingdom on earth? Should it be hierarchical like all other kingdoms. Will Christianity have survived over the centuries without a hierarchical structure in Catholic Church in the face of physical wars, persecutions and heresies?. Did the new testament Church replace the ancient nation of Israel? The vision of the church which John saw in the book of revelations descending out of heaven had indications of a hierarchy. It had twelve gates symbolising the twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve apostles who also had a hierrachy( Peter and the rest). Pls don't be a part of falsehood. You sound too intelligent to be so.

The ROMAN Catholic church won dominance by FORCE of ARMS, not theology. There were a variety of early churches and denominations. The Roman version won out because of the Roman Army. You sound too intelligent to not understand this.

@The Romish Papist I'm afraid you don't know your history. The terms of the Council of Nicea were enforced by the might of the Roman Empire. There were most certainly multiple competing Christianities in the early days. We now call them heresies. They were stomped out by force and threat of force. Of course, it wasn't called the "Roman Catholic Church" at the time.

@The Romish Papist Those "heretical" movements WERE competing Christianities...

@The Romish Papist Or, rather, they didn't have the force necessary to become "the Christianity".
