Eh... "Committing to the run" is not so smart when you're averaging 3.0 per carry, outside of Rodgers scrambling. Also, Green Bay's defense is nowhere near good enough right now to win those kinds of games. I beg to differ. This is Matt LaFluer channeling Mike McCarthy all over again. McCarthy never ran the ball, even tho he had some real talent at running back. He put it all on Rodgers arm. When LaFleur first showed up, it looked for a couple seasons like that might be behind us... but it's back.
Plus... some of us have been Packers Fans since the 70's and 80's, when the Bears where running roughshod over our team year after year. I lived through the '85 Bears... so I can still remember when the roles were reversed. Seeing the way Justin Fields has played the last couple weeks, if he can continue to build on what he's doing, it looks like the tables may be turning again in the NFC North.

Hey Tom, just wanted to shoot my perspective as an Eagles fan to you. I know the feeling you got right now (at least to some degree). I watched the QB my city all were excited to lock down into the biggest deal we ever gave out explode into being one of the worst QB's in the NFL statistically. Wentz stunk in 2020, and when the offseason rolled around, everyone was stunned that:
    1. The team was taking on a $30M dead cap hit to move on from what was going to be our guy in C Wentz.
    2. We fired the first ever super bowl winning head coach the Eagles had after really one bad campaign.
    3. We were keeping Howie Roseman around after YEARS of not getting the right guys in the skill positions, which arguably did more harm than Douggie P or Wentz would even be able to overcome (Our Leading WR's in 2020 were Travis Fulgam and Jalen Reagor... Both COMBINED didnt have a 1000 yard season).
The whole of Philadelphia prepared for the worst.
Everyone expected us to come out the following year and stink, and to be fair, we started 2-5, with most fans writing the team off at this point. But things did turn around. The new head coach brought some fire to the squad and both Rookies and Vets bought into the message on always competing. Speaking of rookies, we got a rookie WR who broke the Eagles rookie record for receiving yards after years of struggling to get the right talent in the WR room. Our QB we took in the second round the year before struggled, but also had glimpses of greatness sprinkled in. With the right mindset and mentality to keep improving and adapting, our team managed to go 9-8, far and away overperforming in what was supposed to be a 4 win rebuild season. Thanks to the compensation received in the Wentz trade, Howie Roseman had the ammunition to go and get the pieces we needed to reload the roster the next year and now we see the results - the Eagles are 8-0 and sit on top of the NFL looking like the best team in the league as of writing this.
    Hope is restored in Philadelphia.
But why do I write all this?
The Packers are in a prime position to do the same. If the team makes aggressive moves to move forward, builds their draft stock, and focuses on getting the right guy (or building around their developmental prospect in Jordan Love) the Packers do not have to be "bad" for long! I believe firmly if the Eagles can get a conditional 1st and 3rd for Carson Wentz, that there will be teams to give so much more for a guy like Aaron Rodgers. So, if like me you have that deep pain in your gut when you think about the future of this team while you are down right now, I'd ask you to keep the faith. Every year is a new opportunity, and as a reminder, its never how you start, but how you finish. Not one person in Philadelphia believed that the 2-5 Eagles had DREAMS of being a playoff wildcard last year, but we got hot and stayed hot through the back half of our schedule. So, even if its not this year, you never know just how good your team might be after just a few key changes. Keep your head held high and hope for a brighter tomorrow. It'll be here before you know it.

    2006 Packers: 8-8
2007 Packers: 13-3 lost in the NFC championship game to the Giants. Favre's last game as a Packer.
The 2006 team was encouraging towards the end of the season. We had a lot of youth on the team at that time and you could tell things were looking good for next season. Not to say we're in a similar cycle, but this is clearly a down year. If some of this youth develops, and we make the right move or two for vetsin key spots, we could get one more run with Rodgers in a year or two.
There is blame to go around. Rodgers needs to cool it on the diva act. He should have been with these receivers in the off season a lot more.
Lafleur is maybe not as great of a coach as the beginning of his tenure suggested 😂. I'm not sure what you can do about that though if you're looking at a 2 to 3 year window for us to bounce back.
I blame Gute the most. Him drafting Jordan Love started this whole mess. It was a move to massage his own ego. He should have traded Rodgers if we intended to move on from him and rebuild. Now it's just a wasted 1st round pick that could have been a stud receiver on the other side of davante that would have given us a better shot as a superbowl than Love has.

I think the Love pick directly led to the two years of Rodgers playing MVP-level ball, and I think anyone out there would take two years of MVP-level QB play for a late first rounder, any day. If Mike Pettine had made one better playcall the Packers are going to the 2020 Super Bowl, and perhaps this whole narrative is very different.
But, that's the NFL. You keep trying to give yourself shots, and hope the bounces go your way. They didn't, in 2019 and 2020, and then you're negotiating with a QB who is coming off two MVP seasons, and looking at Brady winning a Super Bowl at 43, maybe you think he can keep it going. And what will the fans say if you let him walk or trade him? It's really not an easy position, when you take away the benefit of hindsight.
The problem with the Packers is structural. They're a victim of their own success, precisely as the NFL's competition rules intend. They'll be able to get Bakhtiari off the books at the end of this year, and possibly Rodgers as well, which would be the smart play. Get some good draft capital, and hopefully have a terrible year next year, and hit on another franchise QB. Then two years after that, young and lean and hungry, you're back into the cycle of success. Just hope the noise from the fans isn't enough to throw out good people with the bad.

      @matthewp7428 Год назад

@@don_5283 I forgot to reply to you a couple weeks ago. You make some valid arguments, and I can't make the argument against getting Rodgers off the books at this point. However, I would say that I think it's still worth giving the team an opportunity to bounce back with him next couple years. Franchise QBs are hard to come by even though there seems to be more of them in today's game. Once Rodgers is gone we could easily fall into the hell of a QB search that so many teams have been in. Just look at our own division. No one has come close to maintaining the level of QB play we've enjoyed since the Favre era. I think assuming we won't just fall back to earth with the rest of the league in that regard is too big of an assumption to make. That being said, I think if the right trade capital is offered for him this off-season I wouldn't be upset if they made that deal. I would understand the practicality of it. I do however think that the Russell Wilson experience Denver is having will make teams hesitant about what they're willing to give us for Rodgers 😂.
I have to disagree with you almost entirely on the Love pick though. If the intention of drafting Love was to give Rodgers another chip on his shoulder or light a fire under his ass, perhaps they accomplished that and got some better play out of him. The only problem with that is now the chip is still there. The organization doubted him and drafted Love. They've put themselves on his enemies list.
I think putting more emphasis on drafting and developing another young wide receiver for him to throw the ball to could have easily lead to better play from him as well. Remember, he won his superbowl because he had 4 or 5 legit targets to distribute the ball to. 4 receivers that were all at least legit #2 receivers if you put them on another team. Imagine if we had drafted a player like Watson even just a year or two ago with Davante still on the team to take the pressure off of him. There has been a lot of draft capital put into the defense over the years as well, and I would say we haven't been regarded as one of the best defenses since our superbowl.
As far as the organization goes, we have had about 25 - 30 years of HOF QB play and 2 superbowls to show for it in that stretch. A lot of that is due to circumstance and the players playing the games, but I think there is a valid argument to be made that we've played it safe in the name of maintaining moderate success too often.

@@Ice9kills78 eh I'm not really a packers fan, but I think that's kind of a ridiculous take. The packers have had Aaron Rodgers, one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game, and they have been plagued by one of the most incompetent front offices I have ever seen.
This year is the culmination of that. A front office so incompetent, they couldn't put together a decent team if their franchise depended on it. But all that winning they've been doing has just been Rodgers... his team has always been horrible. He had to get a season ending injury to get Mccarthy fired. The front office refused to get rid of him until Dom Capers (the d coordinator) became the longest tendured d coordinator in the league, lasting more than twice as long as the second place d coordinator...
I honestly think it's sad. For a team to waste such an incredible talent at QB just because the front office couldn't find their taint with both hands.

And every single year from 2009 to 2022 we were expected to Go to the SuperBowl and be favored. 13 years this window was open. We got a ring 12 years ago. So so so long ago. Only 2 players left on the roster apart of that championship team. As Packers fans we always expected to get back. But now the expectation of winning is ceased and our championship window is closed. And due to all the contracts and extensions... this rebuild is going to be delayed and our turnaround may not be until a dew years. And this franchise is going to have to do something they haven't done since the 80s... ands that's turn around a losing organization. Most teams go decades without winning a SuperBowl. Im 24 now. It maybe until im 34 until the Packers make it there again. It's been almost 13 years since we won a Lombardi. 8 straight years in the playoffs. 3 straight years of being the #1 seeded team. Now this team is not a great team anymore. And we can very well be a non-competitive team for the next 13 years. Still a fan. But for the first time... ill be a fan of a losing organization.
